[Q] Camera scratch-protection accessory? - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

Is there available to prevent the glass protecting the camera from scratching?
I got a small scratch in the corner now but i dont want to end up having ugly pictures all the time.
And if there are any plastic foils/tempered glass protectors to put on it, won't it blur your pictures a bit?

The Martin Fields screen protectors usually come with a small protector for the camera lens. I have used one and saw no noticeable deterioration in image quality. This is the Note 4 one on Amazon UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Martin-Fields-Overlay-Protector-Samsung/dp/B00ODTBE3Q
and on the Martin Fields site:
http://www.martinfields.co.uk/MFOP-SamGalaxyNote4

hmm okay but this is a little bit too expensive imo..

Best thing you can do is get a thicker case so the lens is recessed.

Camera Lens Cover?

Quick question, I got my phone today but what are you guys doing about the camera lens? It comes out so far that many of the cases don't seem to protect it.
Does it need protecting or no?
The HTC Case (striped one) I felt was more of a stylish accessory as opposed to serving any function in protecting the phone. The camera still juts out of the back.
The lens seems to be recessed slightly, I don't think I would worry about it too much.
I'm sure you could find a way to stick a very thin amount of plastic on the metal ring just around the lens to help. Not sure how that would be done though
The Martin Fields screen protectors come with a lens protector.
i have the martin fields and it is fine. do not buy the nillkin, which also claims to include a lens protector. there is a selection of lens protectors with the nillkin, but the screen protector itself does not fit well. it's cut too small.
I plan on ordering a Martin Field's protector set next week. From what I've read, they're quite good.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Many of the cases don't protect? Most of the ones I saw did, most thin TPU cases cover it just fine, mine creates a substantial lip.

I've been really impressed with the Skinomi protector. The cut-outs are spot on and orange peel is at a minimum. Other protectors with cut-outs for the front facing camera and sensors tend to cut out a portion of the protector rather than having actual holes punched out so that the chances of the edges lifting increases. The Skinomi actually punches out holes in the protector giving the impression of a more finished look. You wouldn't think that there is anything on the screen itself unless you look around the edges and see the ends of the protector tracing the edge of the screen Speaking of the edges, I am really impressed how the skinomi is able to follow the curvature of the screen without lifting. I have had the screen protector on since I received the phone in late November and I have the official bumper on. Scratches and indentations do take a while to clear up, but with the screen on, it is not even noticeable. I am truly impressed with Skinomi.

Best dry install? Spigen Dual, it's literally one of the best protectors I've ever used(hori has the best but theirs are for game consoles). Anyway the quality of the Spigen dual is unmatched, the rear protector almost has full accuracy, it's missing just a little bit of height but not enough to make a fuss over it. And the front, while not covering the curves, still overs great protection. They chose the slim profile for the front to avoid the lifting that normally occurs with the curvy designs, which is honestly a fair trade-off. I would rather have this design than one that allows dust and lifting to occur. Overall I give Steinheil a 9/10 for their efforts.

Do you have the case fit one or the normal fit one.
How does it fit?
I have an Mpero Privacy Screen Protector sitting here, will post a review when my N4 arrives (if someone hasn't by then).

Actually contrary to the Amazon image it does indeed have the sensor cut out. I was worried about that being an issue before it arrived, but I'm relieved that it should be just fine.

I wish...
My AT&T Note 4 is one of those "steep" curved black models and the top and bottom of the iVisor sticks (well 70% of it), and the side adhesive doesn't touch the phone's glass at all.
Sure it doesn't halo, but the sides don't adhere, leaving a gap for dust and general pocket "stuff" to get under the screen protector.
Also, the capacitive buttons became more annoying to use with the Moshi iVisor vs just your typical PET film. At least in my experience, not completely sure why tbh.
Ended up with a Zagg HDX, which does adhere with my phone's ridiculous screen curvature. Not bad but not glass, oh well. At least the AT&T store allowed me to return it :crying:
Can't we apply a second screen protector beneath the Moshi iVisor?
Also, do you have pictures of this protector installed on the Note 4?

I suppose you could, the adhesive only does around the edge of the iVisor.
I don't have pictures of it installed but I do of the bottom after a million installs, it's dirty on the bottom simply due to my stupidity in cleaning it and using a microfiber to dry instead of following the directions. My fault on the dirty-ness entirely, I even showed the AT&T rep and he said not to worry.
The AT&T store already took it back without any issues and refunded me the $48 + tax, so I'm fine. Granted not satisfied but for now the Zagg will have to do. For the record, the crying emoticon was for the fact it wasn;t as perfect as I had wished, not the I couldn't return it... my error in placing it there.
These pictures I took to send to my brother anyways showing the adhesive and how the screen curves, bear in mind, it's flat, just that the top of the glass is curved, so it in itself is 2.5D or whatever the term is but it's still a flat sheet of glass, therefore, for those of us special Note 4 owners with really curvy screens, we're still out of luck.
Imgur Album (just 4 shots): http://imgur.com/a/aOGue
Edit: Also, for reference, only the home button is actually cut out, all of the other things like the front facing camera, capacitive buttons, notification LED and Samsung branding have glass over them.
Our local AT&T store has these in stock..................will pick one up in the morning and report back.

I believe that the actual screen/display area does not stick at all with the Moshi. The only thing that sticks are the top, bottom and the actual thin sides.
I worry about the rainbow effect like with the Defender's built in screen protector.
The AT&T store wants $48. plus tax.
Here we go again. Smh..
Can't you buy and return if it doesn't fit right? You might as well order from Moshi's website. At least they have a 30-day return policy even for opened items. They have that satisfaction guarantee policy.

I'll buy it at the AT&T store in the morning and if it turns out to be crap I'll just get a refund there in the next day or so. Looks like a great idea but I'm worried about no adhesives behind the actual glass display areas.:silly:
Definitely take some pictures while you're at it.
If there is no adhesive behind the actual tempered glass in the display area, I might first install a regular PET Screen Protector that has full edge to edge coverage like the XtremeGuardz (6-Pack for $3 on eBay) and then overlay the PET film with the Moshi. At least that will even the coverage out. According to Moshi, their tempered glass is more rigid than Zagg's, Iloome's, and Otterbox; and I actually believe them.
Here are the screen protectors in my possession right now:
Otterbox Alpha Glass (being Returned for Refund)
Zagg Glass, Revised (Keeping as backup), costed me $14.29
Zagg HDX (Keeping as backup), costed me $13.60
iLoome Flex (Keeping as backup), costed me $19.99
Spigen Crystal PET Screen Protectors 3-Pack ($9.99)
6-Pack XtremeGuardz HD PET Screen Protectors ($2.99)- Excellent Coverage
6-Pack Supershieldz PET Screen Protectors ($4.99)- Coverage is so-so
1x Otterbox Commuter PET Screen Protector - Included with Purchase
*Italics denote that these purchases were negligible.
Tomorrow, I will be making the final decision between the Commuter and Defender Series cases, depends on what the fitment of the replacement case.

I'm going to pick one up in the morning and see what it's all about.
If the edges stick real good it would be perfect for the Otterbox commuter as It's rubber edges will seal the whole thing up nice.
I'll be the Guinea Pig and pick one up in the morning and give it a whirl.
This looks like the edge to edge screen protectors for iPhones; probably have the same "feature". The colored part has no glue and simply floats over the curved edge of the screen. This is not a curved screen protector; at least for iPhone, this works best for those wanting a thin case as the glass will float over the case making it seem more seamless. For those going naked, this will be very annoying.
I guess this will be good for those (like me) that really wanted to put a tempered glass screen protector along with the built in screen protector on the Defender Series case, but couldn't so. Definitely keep us posted, especially with pictures.

Kinda reminds me of built in screen protector found in the Otterbox Defender series case. Otterbox really failed this time around, and perhaps this might be a viable solution for me.

In the first picture I posted, I tried to catch that, so I may not have, but yes there is adhesive on the sides as well, which due to my Note's ridiculous curvature, didn't adhere, letting dust and all the general pocket dust slide right under the glass.
The glass portion on the screen has absolutely no adhesive, it's ever-so-slightly lifted due to the adhesive around the edges, which is why it never bubbles but can have crud caught under it.
Though, in all fairness, while any Otterbox case for me is an instant "no" (bulk), if you get a case that can essentially bite down on the sides preventing stuff from sliding in under the screen, you may have one hell of a winning combination
Guys, I am currently using the ivisor glass, see post#1880 on the tempered glass topic. Took some pix with 2 cases: samsung protective cover+ and otterbox commuter. The protective cover fits much better. It's like the ivisor was made to fit with the samsung covers. The commuter is a little tight on the 2 sides, corners go over the ivisor. Can't download pix right now cause i don't have cable or sd slot on my work PC to download from my camera. I'll try to upload pix this evening.

This glass only attaches at the top and bottom, not the sides. The glass itself is not curved, thus there will be a gap on both sides. What prevents dust, hair, dirt, lint, etc from getting in between the glass and the phone through these huge openings on both sides?
Thanks!
Greg
A good case like the samsung protective cover+ or cases that have similar fit. No dust so far in the 6 days of use.

In my opinion I would not recommend the ivisor glass for people who do not use case or a case similar to the 2 case that I have tested. I think if you drop the phone and landed on any corner or side it would probably come off with the impact force as there is not enough adhesive surfaces.

It's fine and fits well. Not sure how a 0.9mm thick piece of transparent glass can look cheap or premium for that matter
I ordered CaseBase premium tempered glass from Amazon. However I haven't received it yet and can't use it until November.
I ordered a german brand (or at least its sold under the name "wunderglass" meaning wonder glass; made in china ofc).
The fit is ... not that great tbh. The cut outs are fine and in place, but it has too much space to the bezel of the z5. Is there a brand which produces such glass protectors with a minimal gap to the bezel?
I've tried a lot of different brands and I found none that can compete with StilGut in terms of cut, quality and durability. It's made by a German company as well [in China]. A little pricey, but well worth their cost.

Excellent! I was just earlier looking for a front + back solution. And 20 bucks for both with 2 year warranty? Pfft, that's cheap.
Spigen's glas.tr slim costs 25$ and it's just a front protector. And it's 0.4mm compared to this StilGut at 0.33mm.
I take it you've got some personal experience of these StilGut protectors?
Q: How's the, uhm, quality I guess, of the oleophobic coating on them? Longevity wise?
I've previously used UltimateShield on my One M7 and on my partner's LG G3. Our gripe with them is how shortlived the coating was.
Didn't take all that long (a little over two months I guess) for the coating to wear off inb4 smudges galore and made the glass NOT easy to clean. Of course any coating will not last indefinitely but still..
P.S. That typo in the thread title made me chuckle, guess it's time for bed...

I got the StilGut front/back kit same day as my phone (Saturday). The cut is perfect as usual. I completely forgot that the Z5 had frosted back glass and wasn't sure if the tempered glass would work but it did. Unfortunately you lose out on the grip of the new glass but until someone puts the phone through some use and report back on whether the frosted glass scratches easily or not, I am not taking chances.
anoke is the best one I have seen/used, fits perfect and has front and back. $8.88 prime

Well you could go and sand the back protector.
Sandpaper (the wet kind and with it use water to contain the glass dust, you don't wanna breath that)
A flat surface to put the sandpaper on (a mirror for example)
Tape to hold the sandpaper in place
Elbow grease
Have fun!
Start at a low grit 120 or 240 and work your way up to 600 or 1000 or even 2000 depending on the look you want.
You can get wet sandpaper in kits, that have a variety of different grit, online or from your local hardware store and so on.
I recommend Nillkin 9h+ pro.
Nillkin Amazing H+ always the best glass for all Zs!
Now available also for back, used it for previous Zs and no any single scratch, durable 9h !!!
Can I just buy a front screenprotector and leave the back?
It has a frosted glass back but wouldn't the camera would be damaged without a screen protector.
Also i can't find a brand that has front and back screen guards only front.
Sorry i am new to using smartphones.
Any ideas about privacy screen? Too many people read over my shoulder on crowded trains

Sorry, could not stop laughing imaging you in the train with this, so noone could read over your shoulder.
I saw some sold online, but can not post links here(sure you can find them easily) and I can not say anything about privacy screens because I do not like any screens to be applied to original one. So instead of tampered glass I also have chosen original flip case.

I bought this one and I can vouch for the quality. It has the proper cut-outs for the front camera, sensors, and speakers. I've got it wet a few times and it's definitely not going to peel off due to moisture. One of my gripes with the Z5 was that the edges make the edges a little sharp to grip, but now with this tempered glass on it feels like the glass is flush with the edges like the iPhone.

And how easy was it to fit?

Best Screen Protector for Note 7 ? Curved screen peeling concern.

My current Phone is a Note 4.
I have always used Spigen screen protectors. The one on my Note 4 was applied almost 2 years ago and it only has minor scratches.
I noticed Spigen doesn't currently have a screen protector for the Note 7. Should I wait ? If not, is there a good alternative ?
Also the screen is curved. Does this mean the screen protector peels off from the sides ?
Iq shield or skinomi

I ordered this after seeing a review on the best screen protectors on Phone Arena. It looks like the one in the photo unlike the posted review said in this link. I bought this before the review was posted, and when the phone arrives I will see how it fits. My only worry is if it will interfere with the Unicorn Beetle pro Case that I have.

i use skinomi. works great on the edges (note edge, s7 edge)
They last long and are pretty cheap. if you ever have to replace one.
Wet install so always bubble free.

did you received it? could you share your SPigen screen protector?

Not yet. Delivery status showed delivered but typical Dynamex driver lied and didn't actually deliver it.
Contacted Amazon support and they said it should be here by tonight.

+1 for the Skinomi's , but on my Note Edge, i had that orange-like surface on the screen when looking from an angle!
I ll go for the IQ shield when i receive my phone. Had good experience in the past with it.
Trying 3 different products I was sent for review. They are in shipment...
Skinomi
IQ Shield
ArmorSuit
The Note 7 will be my first curved screen phone (upgrading from an S5) and I plan to get either an Otterbox or Spigen case for it. I had a screen protector for my GNex and hated it! Is a screen protector really necessary (or more necessary than non-curved screens)? Other than "necessity" what advantages do screen protectors add? I'm looking for some honest feedback since I have zero experience with curved phones.

Yes, I will gladly share my unbiased reviews of them once I get them. Waiting for the phone too...Sprint said they will ship on 8/17

I have received a slew of cases via amzreviewtrader.com
I have 6 cases so far with a bunch more in the way. Mainly from lesser known brands but I think some will do a great job.
Their is a myriad to try out. I used Versus Thor on my Note 4 & Versus Neo Hybrid (their frame is aluminum vs Spigen had plastic frame).
3 Screen protector kits (not tempura glass)
Skinomi
ArmorSuit
IQ Shield
Will share my results. After seeing that gorilla glass 5 scratch test on YouTube, I definitely want something. It's such a pain. Why can't they make something super difficult to scratch?

So those of you that have experience with the Skinomi HD Clear screen protectors, I have a question for you. I bought this case for my phone:
Galaxy Note 7 Case, Spigen® [Rugged Armor] Resilient [Black] Ultimate protection from drops and impacts for Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (2016) - (562CS20403) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GIUIFEI/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_oNyTxbE3YE34X
Now this case is pretty minimal. Meaning it isn't very bulky and doesn't add a ton of protection. So with that being said, would the full coverage protector work or do I still need to go with the case friendly version? I'd appreciate any advice.
I had to get case friendly screen protectors for my S7 edge, pretty much all of my cases would lift the screen protector. I used IQshield and Skinomi full coverage on my S7 edge.
I also have the full coverage IQshield for the Note 7 and it's not installing very good. The edge is smaller on the Note 7 so the sides keep popping up. I have an Armorsuit case friendly that I will try soon.
I got the official screen protector with my note7 today at my local samsung store along with a bunch of other goodies in a cheap bundle.
the screen protector is film and not glass, but it's not flimsy, and is already pre-shaped to cater for the curve. it came with two in one pack.
the application was easy enough, as it came with dust stickers and a surprisingly high-quality hard-card with soft felt hemming on it for pushing out air bubbles.
it covers around 90% of the front glass panel, but still covers the whole display area itself, and reaches around the curves too, and is inconspicuous when put on properly.
definitely happy with it and will stick with this one until a really good quality curved glass protector comes out.
