[Q] AT&T RUU? - HTC One M8 for Windows

Hi,
Does anyone have the AT&T RUU for the One M8 for Windows? It looks like HTC/Verizon lock the available LTE channels to Verizon's channels in their firmware and as such I can't get a 4G signal in Ireland even though HTC's webpage lists the handset as supporting the channel that my carrier (Three) use (which funnily enough, is 3).
Would it be possible to flash this godawful Verizon software off my phone and overwrite it with the AT&T software or even better, unbranded firmware?
Verizon even lock stuff down like changing the phone's language - they only support English (United States) so if I want Cortana I have to leave everything set at US settings and occasionally badly fake an American accent for her to understand me properly.

I'm also going to voice my desire for the AT&T ROM. Without that ROM, if the preview for developers breaks something, I have no ability to flash the phone to its original state. Similarly, the Windows 10 preview is coming soon...

all 3 carrier variants have different modelID even if hardware is identical.

i doubt you can skip modelid check since one of my friends tried with 8x and no luck.

CSC Nigeria NG!!! But i'm in the USA

So I have this S7 International version and I've been reading a lot and realized that my CSC is ECT for Nigeria NG I'm thinking this could be why my data is so damn slow compared to my HTC.... Is there a way to change this and how would I go about changing it... I'm on MetroPCS (T-Mobile) in the USA.
Thanks
go to sammobile . com and download the firmware you want and use Odin to install. Theres plenty of other software, whether it's UK, Luxemburg or any other. Plus you can get the latest April security update
I just wonderin what's the best country, I was thinking Austria T-Mobile but honestly I don't know much about Foriegn carriers
But seriously I waited 4 hours for a 2GB file to not gethalf way done I just stuck my sim in my HTC and it's halfway done in 5 minutes
Make sure whatever you download is of the 930F variant and not any of the snapdragon firmware. Most US based ones are of snapdragon type.
I know that I was just wondering if it matters what country I download whether it's Austria or Germany Poland UK etc
Holy crap this has fixed everything. I now for the first time have an LTE signal. Unfortunatly it's not rooted anymore but I"ll take being able to use the internet over having a linux distro on my phone any day
Glad to hear you sorted the problem. Best way to select ROMs is to look for countries with matching LTE bands to your carrier. Most likely case is that CSC might limit bands or do something on that area.

Beginners Question - Android Updates, CSC etc.

Hi,
I'd appreciate some advice. I have rooted and flashed an old Samsung S3 before for a friend so he could play Pokemon Go - I wouldn't say I really understood what I was doing 100% but I followed some instructions carefully and it worked. But that was on an old phone that he no longer used so he wasn't concerned about bricking it.
But this is my current problem.
I am in the UK. In November I purchased a second hand Samsung S7. It was unlocked but had a THREE network splash screen. I knew that I was going to use Vodafone as my provider as I already had the contract so I wasn't over the moon about the THREE splash screen but in my ignorance (this was my first Android phone) I figured it was just an annoyance that I would only see on the rare occasions that I rebooted my phone.
However, I'm beginning to understand that there may be deeper issues, for example
1 - Vodafone keep sending me texts saying that WiFi Calling is enabled, but I don't have the setting to enable it in my Phone>Settings.
2 - There doesn't appear to have been any updates to the phone (including security patches) since I bought it and stuck a Vodafone SIM in it
3 - I haven't received notification that Android 7 is available - Vodafone were supposed to have released this a week ago but I am aware that the roll-out may have been put on hold
I'm guessing the problem is that although my provider is Vodafone I'm not getting any of the nice things they are rolling out (such as WiFi Calling) because my phone has THREE firmware.
But I don't seem to be getting anything from THREE either - this could be because they are just very slow but I am concerned that I won't ever get anything from them because I don't have a contract with them.
When I try to manually update I get a message saying that there are no updates and the following
G930F XXS 1BP K6
G930F H3G 1BP I1
G930F XXU 1BP JE
They all seem to be UK codes and I believe that H3G indicates THREE.
Is there anything I can do. I appreciate that I could just root and flash to standard firmware but I am worried about bricking my phone (it wasn't a cheap purchase) and that I would lose features like WiFi Calling (not that I am getting them at the moment). What about changing the CSC code to Vodafone - is that easy/safe - would that work?
Appreciate any help or advice.
Cheers,
Nigel

Try to download firmware from SamMobile.com and flash to United Kingdom (BTU) my phone was locked to three and I did that. You don't need root and it is highly unlikely that you will brick your phone if you follow the correct steps

I've had a look at SamMobile. Would you please explain what the different downloads are.
I want to stick to MM 6.0.1 for now. I can see three possible options
BTU - the one you suggested
H3G - THREE, not really an option because it is what I have at the moment
VOD - Vodafone, as that matches my contract
Want is BTU? - I'm guessing that it is an unbranded variant, although my daughter's S7 is unbranded and her phone shows it as XEU (which is listed as United Kingdom / Ireland) on the SamMobile site.
What about going to VOD - would that make sense as I am on a Vodafone contract so it would align better with services that they make available, such as WiFi Calling.
And finally, what are the implications of installing a new firmware - will it reset my phone and remove all applications and data. Will there be things that won't work because the system will detect a firmware change - thinking security things like WiFi Calling or Cashless Payments (not that I use them)?
Cheers,
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
BTU is the unbranded UK firmware. I would suggest BTU over VOD just because you don't have Vodafone splash screen or carrier apps. You will also get OTA updates allo5 faster.
There are no implications of flashing a firmware. It will not void your warranty or trip KNOX like root will. You will still have access to all the features of your phone.
Many thanks for all the advice. Going to bite the bullet and load some different firmware.
One further question though - do you know if BUT supports WiFi Calling.
Cheers,
Nigel

Question about using international versions in the US?

I've been thinking about going with an international version of the Galaxy S20 (or whatever the next release is called) over a US one because of the ability to unlock the bootloader and run custom ROMs extending the device's useful life.
But I'm curious how, as a person in the US, I would get the regular OTA updates from Samsung or what CSC code I would use? I'm only fluent in English. How do people usually handle this sort of thing?
Thanks!
I used international versions of S8+ & S10+ on T-Mobile with no issue. All international models are GSM only, so as long as you have a compatible carrier you should be fine. All carrier features were available for T-Mobile, but that's not true for AT&T which disables most carrier features for unlocked phones. After you modify the device you will not get OTA updates & have to flash any updates which are ready available. The CSC won't matter, you just have to chose one that is available for that specific model.

Question Network compatibly question (at&t)

Both the motorola g100 and Motorola edge s, have the same model number. (XT2125-4) both phones use the same exact bands. Biggest difference is price.
In the U.S the moto g100 is $500. You can get a Motorola edge s shipped for around $285. Big difference.
My question is, since they have the same model number (xt2125-4). Will the Motorola edge s work on at&t? I know at&t has white listed the g100 xt2124-4. But no mention of the Chinese version.

I'm the best one to help you so I'm from the United States there are a lot of differences I have the Motorola g100 xt2125-4 my firmware version is called North American retail 8 gigs of RAM 128 gigs of memory the only phone carrier that it works correctly on is T-Mobile. And there's only one way to get this phone that's the purchase it through Motorola USA. It will kind of work on AT&t but 5G won't work. Other differences are. Mine has NFC. A dedicated Google Assistant button and the fingerprint scanner is on the side. The model I have is specifically made to work in the United States. Because we use different cell phone signals different NFC signals. Different calling protocols

I imported my G100. It has NFC, Google Assistant button and the fingerprint scanner is in the power button.
The model I imported works in the United States.
My Reteu (Retail, Europe.) G100 even supports Voice over Wifi on T-Mobile in the US.
I'd expect it to as it's the exact same hardware with a different build of Android, mostly localization support.
No, we don't use different cell phone signals or nfc signals. They're called standards for a reason. NFC works worldwide if the phone has NFC support. Doesn't matter where it comes from.
Band support is all that is needed. That's why you can import phones sold for retail in China, Europe, Brazil, etc... and have them work in the US as long as the supported bands are there. I imported my Nubia Red Magic Mars from China, flashed the Europe firmware onto the device and used in the United States. No issues.

Google Pay support on an imported device isn't because, as you said, "Because we use different cell phone signals different NFC signals. Different calling protocols." Google Pay and whether or not it works with your device is dependent on other factors, security checks. Not because an imported device uses "different NFC signals."
Case in point: I was able to use my YubiKey to 2FA login on my G100 when I signed into my Google Account. Using NFC.
If it was "different NFC signals," my YubiKey shouldn't work with the imported G100.
I use NFC stickers to activate Tasker profiles. Same stickers I used with my US Based Edge '21 and my South American based Z Play. Didn't have to change a thing.
"NFC" itself is a standard. If a device didn't follow the NFC standard, it couldn't advertise itself as having NFC features.
The last time we had "different calling protocols" causing incompatibility within a region was when it was GSM and CDMA/EVDO in the US. CDMA is no longer supported and EVDO will be fully shut down in the US at the end of this year. GSM, like '4G/LTE' or '5G' is a set of standards in which all countries follow for their phone networks. That's how we have interoperability, not just at the device level, but at the tower and literally calling someone around the world level.
The main difference between one 4G phone in one region versus another 4G phone in another region, if the phone is unable to work outside of its host region is not "different calling protocols", but lack of band support. Having an issue with device with bands that AT&T and Verizon use isn't due to "different calling protocols", but due to anticompetitive tactics on both carriers. They want people to buy devices from the carrier (read: sim and bootloader locked). I was able to upgrade my Mother's phone by buying an unlocked Pixel and sim-swapping. Everything worked fine.
Reteu imported G100 being used in the US. NFC? Works. VoWifi on T-Mobile? Works. 5G on T-Mobile? Works. Google Assistant button? Works. Fingerprint scanner in the power button? Works.
TLDR: You are talking out of your ass.

Exactly and as soon as you unlock the bootloader on a Motorola if you go into the Google Play store it'll tell you that your device is now not certified

WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR CLAIM OF "DIFFERENT NFC SIGNALS".
Don't "Exactly" me when I spent six+ paragraphs correcting you.

Root for the CAT S22 + (review!)

So I bought the s22 flip unlocked and am decently excited about it. Its clearly a beta-ish device, with some bugs. The screen sometimes goes black and the keyboards are little frizzy.
General:
Size: Yes it's a brick. Don't be surprised. I do wish there was a smart flip phone on the market that more resembles the nice old compact ones, but the only other model seems to be the galaxy folder 2 and that don't work in the US. The screen is small and can feel cluttered, but it's usable.
Battery: the battery life is pretty meh. It'll probably last a day.
Specs: it's slow and has 2 gigs of ram and 16 of storage. Up to 128gb expandable. I tried putting in 256 and it didn't work.
Wierd things they don't tell you: It has no t9 (why?!) But it can be sideloaded. Doesn't seem to care about hotspot provisioning. IT SUPPORTS CDMA (and 5G?) ON SOME MVNOs! I popped in a verizon sim, and with data set to lte only connection is great but no volte.
Best of all, unlockable bootloader! So how can we go about unlocking this device? I've spoken to both CAT support and Bullitt group, and they told me "
Bullitt Group do not distribute the stock ROM for any of our devices.
This is part of our contractual obligations with our partners and the Brands that we represent". So so much for that. What now?
I'm curious about the possibilities as well.
Also about network settings best for 4g/LTE
As right now mine only connects to 2g
well I just got one of these devices and want to at least update it to a full version of android instead of Android Go!
I read that you can sideload android 11 on it and just don't overwrite the drivers.
When you talked with Cat/Bullitt did you ask them if they are ever going to update the firmware on the phone at all? Most phones even T-mobiles bottom of the line phones still get 1 OTA update in firmware to fix initial issues. and most companies are at least providing one level of android updates also.
Any luck with any software work arounds? As for best 4g/LTE settings that is carrier specific, you can change those in developer mode and manually set them up under sim settings.
I plan to use mine on a T-Mobile MVNO so shouldn't have any issue there as this was a Tmobile phone originally that I just got "NEW" unlocked.
I might reach out to T-Mobile for firmware also, as they have to have multiple versions of the firmware as they have T-Mobile branded bloatware on some and Metro branded Bloatware on others.
I just picked up an S22. I've tried TeamSpeak and Mumble, and the PTT won't work when the flip is closed. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hello everybody. I got s22 flip. I am in Italy and I can't use it. Seller said is working with any 4g simcard. But my phone is not working. Any suggestion? Thanks
I need help. I flashed boot from 29 firmware to 30. Root is activated, but Wi-Fi and speakers do not work. I need an update.zip from 29 to 30 firmware.
i have 30 version and i need boot.img to root
i need help to root anybody help?
