[Completed] Problem with Power Button (S3), automatically restart is annoying, how to deactivate? - XDA Assist

Hello there,
I have a problem with my Galaxy S3. The Power Button is damaged, and doesn't work how it should. Sometimes there is no reaction after pushing the button, or it sticks fast. And there is the Problem, when pressing the Power Button for 8 Seconds, the Phone reboots -.-
So sometimes while just using my phone it reboots itself because of the damaged power button. I found one kind of solution, with Root Explorer I changed the functions of the Keys Home Button und Power Button with the files /system/usr/keylayout/gpio-keys.kl and the other one qwerty.kl
I changed just the Names HOME and POWER, now my Power Button = Home Button, and my Home Button = Power Button.
And here is the Problem:
There is still the Function after pressing the Power Button for 8 Seconds, it reboots. How can I deactivate this Function? Where can I find it, or is there another Solution for this Problem?
I bought my Phone from a friend without a bill, and its rooted + CyanogenMod. So if someone asks... I can not let it get repaired by Samsung.
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english.

Hi,
Go to a service center. You need it fixed and it's not that expensive. Or find the parts and a YouTube guide and fix it yourself. Not much you can do otherwise.
Good luck!

[Q] Power Button/ Auto-Turn on Battery

I own a Samsung Captivate and I was running CM7. Randomly my Power Button wouldn't unlock or lock the phone. I flashed to stock and still no avail. Also my phone turns on as soon as I insert the battery. Please help
Power button could be bad. If still under warranty, get att our Samsung to replace it.
I'm not under warranty though :/
This just happened to mine while doing the same thing. I took my power button plastic piece out, and messed around with the actual button, and it fixed it, but that's just for me.
I am having the same problem right now as well. I used this to remap a power button to my volume down key, but still cant get my power button to do anything.

If I feel bold I might try opening it up and fiddlying with the hardware button as welll...

[Q] Power button bypass?

The other day my infuse's power button started dying, apparently i have bad luck with samsung buttons as my captivate's power button broke on me too. It started out just randomly lighting up as if it were touched, then moved on to rebooting, and now it just continuously plays the samsung logo over and over again, even when trying to go into recovery mode. Even with the plastic phone shell off, the problem persisted, so the plastic power button itself i know is not the issue.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any possible way to render the power button useless, and remap one of the volume keys or something as the power key instead.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated, I really don't want to have to pay samsung to repair it.
There's an app called button remapper or something along those lines. But I believe it will kill any other function that the volume button does, like volume control. If you don't use it for that purpose, then try it out.

[Q] button combination to force a shutdown

I must be searching for the wrong things. What is the button combination to force a shutdown on the Note Pro? Thanks.
eric
Press and hold:
Power only - power off
Power + vol up - recovery
Power + vol dn - download mode.
Is this what you are needing?

Those were what I was expecting. But the power+vol combinations aren't doing anything on mine. It is a Verizon LTE version, but I wouldn't think that would make a difference?
They should work . . . best way IMO is to just do a shutdown from within the OS, then while the tablet's off press and hold a vol/home combo prior to pressing and holding the power button. Once the model number splash screen appears let go of power first while holding the other two . . hold the other two for a second or so and then let go.

Ok, this is really silly, but I don't find any way from the Note Pro's OS to do a power down, other than the popup from holding the power button?
(Sorry, bit of background, this all started from a problem that my power button was only working to wake the tablet, but after that, had no effect whatsoever. After mucho playing, for no apparent reason, finally the popup menu came up, I did a restart, and it's been 100% since than. But it has left me worried how to do a shutdown if the power button isn't working. No pulling the batteries on these things.)

Correct, when booted into android OS a momentary holding of the power button will bring up the power menu one option within which will be to power off. This is typical of many android devices.
Are you sure your power button is operating normally?
I have read elsewhere of a user having issue with his power button not feeling right (less travel than anticipated without much tactile feedback when depressed indicating possible defect).
I would like to add for clarity that there is no force shutdown via hardware button, only force reboot. Holding power down for several seconds will force a full reboot. Holding it down briefly to get the power menu gets the power off option in the menu to fully turn the tablet off. If your tablet reboots after this option is chosen then something is wrong.

No, because after returning to working fine yesterday it is acting up again. Not a hardware problem - if the tablet is off, the button will always work to wake it up. But once again, it is now not being responded to when the tablet is awake - either a quick push, a long push, or in combination with the other buttons.
It seems like this is a software problem, either driver or app, since mechanically the button works every time to wake up the tablet. And, of course, I can't do a shutdown or reboot to see if that clears it, because its not responding to the power button. Can't remap the power button because no root available on the Verizon LTE model. Frustrating.

I would take it back to Verizon. IMO software shouldn't interfere with a long depress forcing a reboot. That function is fundamental. This still sounds to me like a possible hardware issue where a long press is not identified as such (intermittent connection in the button).

But a short press also doesn't work when the tablet is on, but does work when the tablet is off. But then it clears up, and always works properly for awhile.
Unfortunately, unlike phones, taking out the battery isn't an alternative option...
I dunno what to tell you. Without root I don't see how any software you have installed on the tablet would have changed anything, and without the ability to get into download mode I'm not sure there's a way for you to do a factory reset that will fix the issue (if it is indeed a software one). I hope someone else chimes in that can help. My suggestion to take it in to Verizon still stands though.
Good luck!

Power Button finally died

Hello,
my power button finally died. Hard nor fast pressing didn’t work anymore, as it did before when this happend.
Then I noticed, when I plug in the power adapter while only pressing the volume down button it boots into the bootloader mode.
Selecting Start or Recovery and it shuts down.
Code:
fastboot reboot
doesn’t help either.
Because there are some files, I tried to replace the power button. But after removing the button it still does the same.
Are there some other possibilities to revive my old Nexus or just get the files?
Thanks.
I had the same issue with power button (first I just move it a little bit after taking nexus apart what helped for few months) but at last this also didn't help.
I went to unofficial mobile service and they did replace my power button and it works 4 months without problem. It cost around ~$30 so I think it was worth it cause I still have working phone. Now I use ROM which allow me to wake up phone with volume buttons just to use power button a bit less.
Had the same problem a year ago, went to unofficial service and they replaced it for about $10 and it's working like a charm since then..

power button doesn't work anymore

Hello,

i've tried to connect the phone and force the start with adb, but it remais off.
Help me please, i am in greece for holidays and i can't go in a samsung point
Are you tries restarting phone with button combo?
Using a particular combination of buttons, you can force your Galaxy S10, S10 plus, and the S10e to restart the system. Here’s how to do this.
Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button simultaneously until the device screen turns off.
May need to press and hold for more than 7 seconds
It will shut down and restart automatically
If the device screen stays black and you’re unable to see if it has turned off, keep holding down the Power and Volume Down buttons until you feel a vibration.

Thank you for your answer! Unfortunately i tried to force restart with this combination but nothing has happened... it's very weird, tomorrow i will return at home and i will go in a samsung point for the check up. I will write update as soon as i will understand what happened :/
After few days the assistance told me that the cause of the problem was water (wasnt it waterproof?) so i have to change power and volume buttons. Very disappointed
Must still be at the store
same thing
I was looking for some infor. My powerbutton stopped working. The fingerprint sensor works but not the power button. I wanted to take a few shots underwater. Maybe just 10 inches underwater and this happend. Looks like its not so waterproofed. I got lucky that the device was on. It looks like if it get off there is no way to turn it on.
