[MOD] Note 4 Surround Sound - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Themes and Apps

Saw this neat little trick on the Portal for the Note Edge to utilize the front-facing speaker as a media outputter. Tested on my Sprint Note 4 and it works great, so I figured I'd post it here. Just flash and enjoy.
I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS MOD OR IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE.

I flashed it and it sounds better ????

Which one did you flash for note 4 on sprint

Yes n4

Guys, I took a look at this and the file does have a lot of differences comparing return to stock to Sprint stock. I took a swing at the port with the medium volume increase to 87.
Try it and tweak it you like. Share the results here if you think it's an improvement. Credit to the developer linked in OP.
I just copied both return to stock and medium volume increase with surround and compared return to stock to Sprint stock before porting the changes. Tested on YouTube and Pandora stream. No unexpected volume through front speaker when headphones plugged-in.
Sounds like the front speaker could use a little boost to me. YMMV.
Note 4_med_mixer_paths.xml [copy to /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml and set permissions to root, root, rw,r,r (0,0 0644). Reboot]

Note 4_loud_mixer_paths.xml
Sprint_Note 4_loud_Test_Surround.zip
Edit: I see the OP in original thread is porting to all requested devices soon. Consider this a test for those that want to try. Use at own risk. Volume warning is still in place AFAIK; be safe.

Yes. Just tested Netflix. Sounds pretty good. I thought the front speaker was low but may take some getting used to.

I'll do it and get back with you

Why can't we go and flashed the OP way and is yours any difference from his.

Sorry, late for me when I read this the first time. I thought you were requesting a zip to flash.
Reading the original OP's thread, one poster described a situation where a caller could not hear the user using this mod on a different phone. It was warned that using different mixers could induce unexpected results.
The differences I noted that I can recall were the microphones and fm radio. The original mod was for T-Mobile Note 4 Edge. So beware, you'd have to test a wide variety of calling and recording scenarios to say the modification works for a different model. The OP understood that and was requesting users interested to share their mixer xml with him to properly port to avoid dysfunction across all uses of the speakers and microphones. Using the wrong modified mixer, you may find some loss of functionality at some point. Test calling on all the radios and Wi-Fi, with and without loudspeaker and also with and without headphones to check for full compatibility. Audi test the recording features including in-call recording of both sides of the conversation.
If you prefer the loud, the mod is two in one, I believe. It wouldn't be that difficult to modify the medium to loud. Or wait until the original OP ports his work to all requested mixers across carriers and phones. I may try the loud mod later when I have more time.
Hope that better answers your question.

I've uploaded loud test xml and zip and placed the links in post #5 of this thread.
If you're still using the mod from the T-Mobile Note 4 Edge with no issues that's good to hear but I somewhat doubt that all possible scenarios are working as intended.
To elaborate on what I said before, there are some paths that called by different names and one that totally removes all the variables in a T-Mobile path when comparing the two original files. Hey, the original surround mod in loud configuration may actually sound better; I may have missed something. To anyone concerned as myself, I'd recommend this test version until the original OP ports directly to our device. Loud was the original T-Mobile Note 4 Edge release as tested and fixed for the audio issue resolved so maybe it's more ideal for our device.
I'd also like to know if there are sound quality issues or differences comparing the two so try if you like. Hoping it's the same mod but fully compatible. I've linked this to the original OP so feedback may be helpful to someone. Thanks and don't forget to thank the developer in original thread.

Is the mixer.xml required for this to work

NO need is not mandatory.
For those of you that have an inspire 4g and havent rooted yet, today would be good day to do that. The roms are coming starting today. Just flashed this core droid 2.5 rom, mainly cause i love having battery circle mod, and just loaded setcpu to 1.22 gighrz overclock and im now getting 45+ Mflops and 2500+ quadrant scores. Audio working without flashing stock kernel and youtube and other media streaming apps now working aswell. Today is a good day!
Just flashed this ROM..everything is working so far but the audio is tinny
Hoping anyone can post their results with the Rom and if the following is working:
WIFI
Bluetooth
HSUPA Enabled
Hotspot Capable
Audio Quality Okay
Also is an additional Kernel required to get it working on the Inspire?

Audio Quality Okay - Small amount of static on my end but my girlfriend said everything was perfectly clear from her iphone (I haven't tried any other radios or kernals yet except the telus kernal which worked flawlessly)

The in-call audio is definitely tinny for me. It sounds like the speaker is shot lol. I've had this problem with all the ROMS I've tried and I always end up going back to stock rooted where the audio quality is perfect.

[TWEAK][GB] Faster Scrolling (Disable Scrolling Cache)

after noticing this mentioned in truckerglenn's port of f1, i did a little searching and found this great how-to thread (be sure to thank the OP!)...clearly written below the level of our beloved "devs" but along the lines of those, like me, who are new to the whole process and looking for a few guidelines while getting our hands dirty
i did both of these tweaks last night on ZEUS BUILD 3 FIXED (and updated), and as they mention in the original thread, increasing the sound increment works visually but audio levels become distorted above 15 (thanks samsung!)...maybe someone knows how to figure this one out
the scrolling tweak seems to work well (or i'm a sucker for placebos).....i've noticed that i can get to the bottom of very long lists and pages in fewer swipes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411317
for those that dont care to do it themselves but would love to give feedback...i've included my modded framework.jar from ZEUS BUILD 3 FIXED (and updated) to include the scrolling mod...if you're on that rom, just use root explorer like you should know how by now, and drop this baby in /system/framework
Reboot should take a little....dont panic!
and for those on ZEUS BUILD 3 FIXED (and updated) who just aren't sure...i've also included a cwm flashable zip with the stock framework
so now...whadya got to lose? o_0
hope it works!
EDIT: according to Dani, this should work on any att based GB ROM....so thanks for the tip!
Nice

the audio can be tough to find the best drive without clipping.
the distortion can come from many things but if it's clipping it can be damaging to the speaker or hardware. basically analogue audio should change voltage in smooth sinodal(sp?) patterns. if you exceed the input voltage on an amp it can't reproduce the wave and you get a partial sinodus with a flat (dc) area that creates heat in the speaker and extra current draw. it can also damage the input stage of the hardware. things are a little different on digital but you will still get nasty harmonics that can damage stuff. also too much gain can mean that the output stage reaches the source voltage before the top of the wave. the problem is getting the most out of the hardware and figuring which level is causeing the clipping.. there will be an ideal gain for each stage and the content will vary in volume.. its a big balancing act and manufacturers tend to leave a good amount of extra potential to avoid clipping at any stage. some extra may be added in the framework some in the kernel drivers but it either takes critical listening and trial and error or some edjucated guessing.
I don't know anything about drivers or kernels so I'm not that Guy but maybe if I try the framework mod I could find a compromise but I never really find that kind of time lately.

Thanks Dani for the input...just to clarify, by distortion I mean the audio maxs out at level 15, if you adjust higher than that, it seems as if audio drops to a lower level and increases to max again as you increase...say you made it so there were 30 increments as opposed to 15...its like this:
1min............15max 16min..............30max
I hope that makes sense...the OP concluded that it wasnt compatible w Samsung but im hoping someone w more pointed knowledge could work it....that would def be a plus in future roms

nah this ones gonna need some research. there may be some other file that maps the levels and that might need some Modding.
Cool! Yeah the bullet about smooth scrolling on truckerglenn's F1 port thread really caught my eye too. That's the only thing I miss from the iPhone is the smooth scrolling.

Follow the original link for instructions on how to do it on the other roms for the infuse. The posted links are for the zeus rom from dman, while the files posted may work on roms other than zeus I'd highly advise not using them. Follow the link in the first post to get the smooth scroll into whatever rom you're currently using.

or you tried the att file stock Rogers rom? our framework is different so it wont work like that. the file posted is for att gingerbread.

[A701] increase Volume possible?

Hello xda users,
I want to know if there is a way to increase the volume of the A701, especially the headphone output (I dont want to stress people around me with the build in speaker)?
Under normal circumstances the volume is great but e.g when travelling by train or plane I sometimes wish the volume would be a little higher, because of the noise from the environment.
I dont want to damage my ears, of course I know that high volume isnt good for health!
My SGS2 and my S+ got a higher volume through a new custom Kernel. Unfortunately there is no custom Kernel for the A701
Some media players can increase the volume of audio, but then it sounds messed up and its of course not systemwide (e.g. emulators etc).
Can anyone help me with this question?
I am running an almost untouched 4.1.1. Stock (Build Acer_AV051_A701_1.028.00_EMEA_DE, Image Acer_AV051_A701_RV05RC08_EMEA_DE) with Unlocked Bootloader and it's rootet.
Check out "Speaker Boost", ymmv
By omega centauri, works for headphone too.
Thank you for your answer, I will give it a try. Sometimes the solution is so easy I also read about "AlsaMixer" in the comments, if Speaker Boost doesnt work I will try AlsaMixer.
Thanks a lot!

Now, for a good audio mod, I advise
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
Use the CortexAx with NEON driver
Also, I use the Creative Zen IR samples.
You have to play with the settings, and you'll drop a couple notches in loudness, but the clarity and bass more than makes up for it.
Will probably cook it all into my Rom
Also, if you're running my Rom, I've cooked up a nifty little 30 step volume mod, rather than the 15 step (stock).

I don't know. It's not getting any interest. U can try it and let me know.
Alright, sorry for being late ..
I wanted to check almost all the sound mods possible and get my hands dirty once and for all haha
Thanks for your hardwork , thanks for sharing ..
Now if I understand.. What this mod does is .. Changing the system files in charge of speakers control .
Say .. Speakers are set to work at 80% power by manufacturer , and this mod allows it to squeeze the 100% ... Am I right ?
I found it to be doing almost the exact same thing other apps do .. Except ..
It feels much cleaner and no bloatware or further libraries modifications which is great IMO . also I find it to not effect the quality as much and feels a bit louder than other speaker increasing apps " maybe my feelings tho "
I suppose it will work with any stock based ROM , it is working properly on 4.1.2 , yet .. I'll still advice making a NAND back up =)
I tried to do somewhat reasonable test running a video file , using a sound meter app on my mobile to test " not super accurate but tried to be as frank as possible , same situations, same video , same everything "
I got like 52-ish dB before , and a wooping 63-ish dB after .. Which is super good IMO
Difference is worth using and I'll keep using this mod until my tablet gives up on me ..
Thanks again .. You sir are a scholar and an artist .

Thanks for being the first review and for this encouraging post. I place another device with noise meter 2cm close to the speaker and got this 100ish dB result.
My mod only modified speaker volume but it's not to 100% also.
Originally, it 68% on stock rom. Right now, it is 73%. You still can increase it more, but the output will be distorted and the quality will decrease noticeably. I prefer quality over loudness
It works as promised:good:

And... we can always lower the volume, but we can't increase it.. =)
There are some tight situations when you desperately need some more volume ^^'

And... we can always lower the volume, but we can't increase it.. =)
There are some tight situations when you desperately need some more volume ^^'
Thanks =)

I'd love to test it ! :victory:
Thank you Sir very much for this. I tested it just for 5 minutes ago with my xtz sgp321 (4.4.4) with a Timwin Recovery-System and it works fine. I had to have louder volume because I use my Navigation-System very extensiv and now I must say it's optimal. But I'll follow this thread everyday from now. Thank you again.

Sorry guys for the wait. I was pretty busy perfecting my StereoMOD for xperia Z. Btw, v2 will be aroma installer and it will be ready in hopefully this weekend or else next week. You have choices like various volumes for speakers, x-loud volume, and headphone boost. And let me know if u have any suggestions, i'll see if it is possible.
EvoMix kernel does my job for all the speaker and stuff! Just install kernel adiutor with it and increase the speaker gain. Maybe you can do some improvements with EvoMix kernel and BeastAudio giving away optimal performance for audio and battery usage Just a suggestion
Sorry guys i forgot that i made this mod. Let me rebased it to lollipop when i have time!

I think it's easier to open the file snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3 with file editor and set sound settings for a limit you like, for example 68 or 71 or 75.
Also in 5.0.2/5.1.1 fimwares sony deleted xLOUD from sound settings that made sound less loud.
I have mod that restores it.
edit .. wrong thread.
anyone know if this will work on lineage os 16?

If it is too loud - Yes. But if you use the Normal ZIP, then everything should work fine
Can someone make a video tutorial?
I have a OnePlus One but am really confused on the instruction. If you could make a video instructions that would be nice,

It works but the ear pieces volume is to low to be useful.
Works great in vertical not so much in horizontal. Reduced the bottom speakers to (57), and the earpiece to (87) to remedy this a bit.
In addition to the EQ to get rid of the sub-bass/bass, gets loud enough for my needs. If I need it louder due to noise around me, I probably need to just put in headphones at that point.
I suggest anyone (regardless of your volume levels) if you apply this mod, also apply the EQ settings recommended by OmegaBlaze with your prefered EQ program as to not blow the earpiece speaker.
Great work.

Flash the revert to stock zip. If that doesn't work, then you might have changed the wrong file. So you'll have to dirty flash your rom

Nice work. But somehow the top ear speakers are still too weak. The designer should have made it like htc one so that it can be used as real speaker
work fine on my OPO, but the in-call volume is very low. can you increase it? thank you for your work!!

XDA awesome
How much of a risk of ruining my speakers is there if I use this mod? Like if I play on full volume will the speaker get ruined?
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
