[Q] How to OTA update AM7 after root? - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I rooted the AM7. I got a message about a new update from the Updater software. it was downloaded correctly. Then system asked for installing, restart the phone and entered the recovery instead of running the update file.
The update failed...
1. Can I update it manually? if so, should I run it from recovery? Where is the update file located?
2. If not, how to remove root/recovery, to run the update? (and of course after it, I'll run root and recovery again)
thx for your help...
Moshe

We're talking about OTA with stock recovery installed, right? If not you've to return to stock recovery first. After update you could flash cwm again.
It failed on my phone (MT7-TL10), too, because of some changed system files. For example build.prop. I've checked the updater-script and it checks all system files for changes. If only one files is changed update fails. i've reflashed stock ROM first (with keeping data, using the OTA in settings) and it worked like a charm.
Here's a link to MT7-TL10 stock ROM. Other versions are available on this site, too.
http://www.needrom.com/download/ascend-mate-7-mt7-tl10/
Root is lost after flashing stock, that's clear. But you know how to root again after OTA update, i think

How to flash the stock rom?

Thx pappschlumpf,
I download the rom. it's a zip file:
http://www.emui.com/plugin.php?id=hwdownload&mod=detail&mid=98
can you pls explain what is the procedure to install it? specifically:
step three: copy a large package path UPDATA.APP to the SD card dload UPDATA.APP.
Step four: Check the root directory of the SD card you dload UPDATA.APP.
thx for your help

You unzip the downloaded file and copy the extracted dload folder, containing the UPDATE.APP file to your external sdcards root. Now go to settings Updateprogramm (in german), click to menu and choose local update. I've pkaced dload folder right update process starts, one more click and phone reboots to flash the ROM.

thx pappschlumpf for the immediate help
I did as you mentioned. however, after choosing "Manual Update" I couldn't see a path to choose from. just "update" button.
but anyway, I think the software updated "120" update successfully after several fails, and than root was lost + another run of "121" update successfully.
Thx

Is this the latest version of mine? I tried to click on update several times but it says, "no update available".

Thanks for your reply. Then why my one shows no update? Maybe the reason is that I am root and unlocked bootloader? Have you rooted your phone? Do we need to reinstall all applications again after update?

Yeah, mine is unrooted.
Maybe you didnt receive the update because you are rooted.
No need to reinstall all apps. They're intact.

If you have not changed any system files, update.app into dload folder on sd. Update from SD Card, reboot, flash with stock recovery. And you've to reroot your device after update. Data isn't touched during that procedure.

I might be wrong, but I believe this is the latest UK beta build (which is also likely to become the stable build).
Anyone used this ? any reviews on stability ? can this be used as a daily driver ?
Anyone managed to flash this over B322-log (UK beta programme). I tried via dload method and got error at 5%.
Thanks

1. You must be on 182 (twrp/rooted).
2. Download and install via official twrp: EVA-L09C432B360 (v71496 11/12/2016) P9 and update_data_full_hw_eu.zip" 910MB: EVA-L09C432B360, in a row.
3. P9 starts without any problem, but ofcourse without twrp/root
4. then you follow LastStandingDroid to get again recovery and root for N.
5. then you download 361 and update_data_full_hw_eu.zip. Both, version 16.01.17.
6. then you install 361 via dload ONLY. The phone boots normally, but we notice that we are staying on...360 ( !) even the new boot image of huawei!
7. then you have to get again recovery/root By LastStandingDroid.
8. then you install via twrp update_data_full_hw_eu.zip, you download (5)
9. And, then, yes, you are on 361 but again without twrp/root. So, you follow again LastStandingDroid.
10. then you have 361 + twrp ( in fact, not working) but no root.
Many many then. I feel tired, but it worked for me.
@LastStandingDroid= please do your best to have a working recovery and root. Thanks.

Haven't found any clear guides for this.

THIS IS FOR L09C432B361!
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...3574/f1/full/hw/eu/update_data_full_hw_eu.zip
And if the update.zip doesn't work using dload (dialer *#*#2846579#*#*) use this:
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G753/g104/v73574/f1/full/update.zip
Did it from 360, unpacked update.zip to sdcard/dload and entered the code in the dialer, rebooted and dloaded the unpacked eu.zip and it worked!

all good thanks very much got it all working , I used dload method and all seems to be ok hi-suite and phone say EVA-L09C432B361
I did a rollback to B166 using the official guide, which then updated to B182. The HiCare early update programme now offers B361 directly. Only disadvantage is the need to wipe the device.
not working
Did it from l09c432b360, unpacked update.zip to sdcard/dload and entered the code in the dialer, rebooted and dloaded the unpacked update.zip seems to work but my p9 remain on B360. Only one change: the boot (huawei9) logo animation is changed.
Update: i've installed also the eu.zip with dialer method and now i'm on b361
Thank you

Before install OTA update, you MUST in stock ROM without any mod like flash custom recovery or root or uninstall any apps.
No need relock bootloader.
Solution : flash newest stock MM by cmd command or RSD Lite.

For people who had tried to flash the soak test and failed have no way to upgrade to nougat at this moment.
I myself had tried to update the soak test via stock recovery and stuck into bootloop.
I unlocked my bootloader & rolled back to 6.0.1, but yesterday when I got the official ota for 7.1.1 I simply downloaded the update was halfway through the upgradation process suddenly it showed the android logo with red exclamation mark & when I tried to turn my device on it was stuck in bootloop.
I again flashed the stock 6.0.1 rom and found some strange issue i.e. when I am getting the marshmallow ota (3 otas of MM), the device is restarting to the bootloader instead of getting into the recovery and updating automatically which used to happen earlier, once I click the volume down button and enter the recovery manually the update automatically starts to get applied.
After all the 3 ota when I once again got the notification for 7.1.1 upgrade it was again struck midway with the android and red exclamation sign.
So had to again roll back to 6.0.1
Earlier I had the moto g1 and things were not this complex back then, it was so easy to flash the soak test or captured ota via stock recovery
People who are facing this issue have to flash 6.0.1 and wait for moto to release 7.1.1 fastboot rom or if someone releases a twrp flashable 7.1.1 zip :crying:

When you downgrade to 601, dont flash 2 file: motoboot and gpt.bin. Flash all except 2 that file
why in my x play i didn't get update yet??????
???????
I just got the OTA update today too.
Edit. I am a thai user.
Exactly two years after me buying this phone, I am glad the promise is finally delivered on by Motorola (now Lenovo I guess). A little late, yeah sure. But none the less it is here and happy I am! If I had bought a Samsung/Asus/LG or any other top brand's phone worth 15K INR (it was a big billion deal on Flipkart) in 2015 I doubt I would be able to say the same now.
Can anyone upload the update file??
Anyone capture the ota:
When you receive an OTA notification, DON'T download it. To capture the OTA, follow the steps mentioned below:
1. Download Terminal Emulator from the Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ww.apk4fun.com).
2. Open Terminal Emulator and type: "logcat > /sdcard/ota.txt" (without quotes).
3. Go back to the OTA notification & click on download.
4. When the download process is starting, switch back to terminal emulator & close it.
5. Browse to your SD Card using any file manager. There you'll find a file named "OTA.txt". Open it & search for OTA download link in it.
That's it.

Code:
This update will roll back your phone's operating system to Android 7.0 (EMUI 5.1).
Rollback notes:

2. Make sure that the current version has not been unlocked or rooted.
3. All user data will be deleted in the rollback. Use an SD card, computer, or Cloud storage to back up all important data before rolling back your phone, and make sure all backed up content is complete and effective.
4. Make sure your phone has more than 50% battery remaining.
5. If you experience any issues during the update, please call the Huawei customer service hotline or visit an authorised Huawei service centre for assistance.
6. The system will restart after the rollback. This will take about 10 minutes. Following the update, your home screen will automatically display the EMUI 5.1 theme.

I have a retail german version of the Honor9
After installing 150 you can also update to 180 via official system -> Update -> Download full package
wow I hope this means Oreo is comming officialy, mine was just updated to B180 since the one that came on the box, I think will be weird get two updates that fast, but I hope it comes soon
It's not ok for me. Not rooted, locked bootloader but when it restarts in recovery it give to me software failed error
I'm really hating Oreo (beta) in Honor 9 because performances are poor and battery too.
Did you do it like explained? Either in Huawei HiSuite or the Phone Manager (App) - No hacks or inofficial ways..

Using HiSuite I receive the error, even if my device is not rooted, bl is not unlocked and system is not corrupted
I have solved using an approved firmware from Firmware Finder
Oreo rollback

Hello dying_sun, i have the same problem.
Honor 9, STF L09 (Europe), now with OREO B360
- unlocked bootloader
- TWRP 3.1.1
- rooted with SuperSU
--> after some days I unrooted my device and locked my bootloader
(I use multitool for TWRP and stock recovery)
After unrooting OREO ota came and a realised that the capacitive buttons are not working. Tried different settings, only the home button works
What to do?
--> Rollback to B120.
I downloaded firmwares from different sites and tried different methods
3-button update: Installing failed
dload method sd card: Installing failed (NTFS format, 32 GB)
dload method internal memory: Installing failed
*#*#284...#*#* method, upgrade from sdcard: Installing failed
I tried to flash a kernel.....img (here in forum "Capacity fix" topic) but when I install it over TWRP the device asks me in which flash memory should it be flashed and I do not know what to choose. (system, ODM, splash2, recovery_ramdisk, cache)
I also tried the HWOTA method, but I get the message, that "recovery2" could not be written into ramdisk or something like that and then it stops.
Possible that I did not consider a little detail
Could you please tell me which firmware from firmware finder did you use and which method you choose to make rollback?
Slowly I get desperated with the phone.....
Thanks a lot in advance

First : Are you on nougat or oreo now, and what's your region ?
your phone is booting ok in system, but no capacitives buttons ? So you'll like to fix them before updating ?
When on nougat, for flashing the dload way a service repair nougat firmware, I think you must have formatted your SDcard to exFAT and not ntfs.
I think when using service repair dload files, you must use the same region files the phone is actually.
For info :
3-button update,
dload method,
& *#*#284...#*#* method,
Are all the same.
You also tried the HWOTA method, but which hwota files did you used ?

Hello oslo83,
The phones Emui is now Emui 8.0.0, B360.
I have an unlocked bootloader, booting is ok (message about unlocked bootloader comes first)
Capacitive buttons and flash light are not working --> I would like to fix them (this is the reason why I try to rollback to B120.
I tried to format to FAT 32, but not possible to copy update.app, because of size. With NTFS it worked. --> I try format to exFat
I downloaded a full-service-repair-package for europe from the site 4pda.ru.
Should I use Firmware finder?
What do you mean with "which HWOTA fileS? --> update.zip / update_full_data.zit and a third one..... comlete package, as described.
Thank you in advance.

Maybe to late to use dload as i don't think flashing dload nougat over oreo will work.
And the only public dload service repair firmware available seems to be only nougat.
And downgrading is maybe not usefull as it seems there is a simple fix for you now by flashing kernel...

No, not in your case.
I think FF won't help for downgrading.
And again, i think you don't need anymore.

No, I meant where did you get your hwota8.rar from ?
Where you using the new one for oreo or the old one for nougat ?
So for you the better will be to flash kernel fix : https://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=75772700
Help yourself, follow the instructions and don't try to install it over TWRP as you did before.

I think that I used one for Nougat...... :-/
There is nowhere a note where to flash this kernel to? --> boot?, recovery_ramdisk? Splash? system? cache?
Do you perhaps know which flash directory should I use?

Help finding a Stock ROM for the P8 MAX DVL-703

I tried several international and chinese roms I found on weird websites without success, is there any mirror for the real stock roms?
Tried some of these without success (remove spaces): h ttps: //boycrac ked .com/2017/ 02/14/official -huawei-p8-max-dav-703l-stock-rom-firmware/
Thanks in advance, my phone is a brick right now and I can't even power it off :/
I tried flashing with the dload method all these roms, only the first one "worked" but there are files outside the UPDATE.APP and the flash was super quick, then the phone didn't boot or anything so it never really worked..
The only rom that didn't give an error and started flashing has these files and UPDATE.APP is only 62mb...:

If you were on Android 6 previously, then flash TWRP and install an official Android 6 firmware with TWRP. After that do a factory reset.

Thanks for your reply!! Yes I was on android 6, installed TWRP and tried all the 6.0 roms I could find without success...
One of them, Aroma ROM, starts ok but then gets frozen and doesn't move, I left the phone for an hour and it didn't install anything:
The other roms just fail before starting..
Any ideas? I'm starting to think the phone won't work again

You need TWRP V3+.
You can also install the ones for Huawei Mate S but try with v3.1.1-0.
Don't forget to flash a FULL-OTA package because you're flashing OTA's. Also this old version of TWRP works only on Android 5 firmware.
Another method is to extract the STOCK RECOVERY partition with Huawei Update Extractor, flash it in fastboot, then install the UPDATE.APP with dload method, but it might give you the incompatibility message because of the CUST difference.

My Hauwei P8 max is bricked as well, tried all the ones you have. Could I have a look at the site you have(Russian) as my Hauwei uses emui to upload. Bought it for $30 on ebay as is(bricked)
Sorry I didn't keep the phone or the ROM files... Phone would freeze it's memory every 3 months and I had to reflash to keep it running. I have had 3 different phones after that one so I didn't think to keep the roms
I have one more firmware but not dload. Its still p8 bht not max, do not know if it good for anything Having a bit of ----uploading it!

Question please how to dowgrade ui 3.0 > ui 2.0 rom russia

i am using ui 3.0 russia version and want to downgrade to ui 2.0 how should i do it. thank you
Download the ota downgrade zip
From here and place in main internal storage
Install it by going to Settings > Software Update > Install from local file select the file ,
Device will verify zip and begin downgrade of OS
Keep phone charged above 50%and I recommend to factory reset after downgrade is successful to avoid bugs
Why do you want to downgraade to RUI2.0 ?

Yeah don't bother the thing he linked is the official downgrade for rui 3.0 indian beta users that allows them to go back to 2.0.
However right now you're using the stable version so you can't downgrade it from the file he sent.
