[Q] SDcard format - Sony Xperia E3

Has anyone tried to use an ext2/3/4 formatted external sdcard? Which of these formats can be used in our Xperia E3? I know that windows will not be able to recognise the card if I insert it in the pc but thats not a problem since the card is always on the phone and MTP doesn't care about the format...

AFAIK It wont be directly readable in the phone.. you need a mount script to be able to view it
I might be wrong..

That is the case with other xperia phones like Ε. I just hoped that things might have changed regarding E3.

File size limitation

What are the chances someone will write a rom that has a different format for the file system on the internal storage of the Transformer? The reason I ask is because I have a lot of blue ray rips that I can not watch on my Transformer due to the file system limitations. Nothing over 2GB can be transferred to the device and I can not seem to get ah external SD card formatted to a different spec that will allow the full file sizes.
I know on my phone the dev reformatted the file system to something else for his from to allow the full file sizes. What are the chances of that happening with the Transformer? I have this big pretty screen I would love to take full advantage of. Watching my DVD rips is only so great
NTFS should be your friend, right? That's how I got my external hd to accept files larger than 4 gb. For the SD card ofc, dunno how to get the pad's file system there.
Or use the Linux ext2/3/4 systems!

How about formatting the external SD card with the Linux ext3 file system, maybe with a Ubuntu Live CD, if someone only has a Windows PC.
That should work, shouldn't it?

That will work. ext2/3/4 depending on what you want. I'd go ext2 as it lacks journalling, theoretically extending the life of your SD (correct me if I'm wrong).
The best option to do this would be to download the gparted live CD, booting into it, inserting your sd into your pc and then formatting it (it's fairly simple).
Only thing is, I don't think Honeycomb will automatically mount the ext SD card when inserted. You would have to do it via mount command in a terminal emulator on your TF. Maybe a custom ROM automatically mounts ext.

Why? Doesn't Android itself use ext4?

Yeah pretty sure it uses some kind of ext, but by default I'm pretty sure it only automatically mounts FAT formatted microSD. I tried this myself with Prime!1.5 a few days ago, with an ext4 Class 2 microSD and it wouldn't mount automatically, although it did recognise the device. Simple mount command in terminal should do the trick.
Although now I'm not sure if OP is talking about SD (via dock) or microSD (via tablet)... as the terms are used rather ambiguously on these forums...

Unbelievable, but true ... I found this problem confirmed in a german Android forum.

Unbelievable indeed. It really doesn't make sense why non-FAT formatted microSDs aren't liked by Android.
i dont understand it either! Im glad i dont have that issue !

SD card problem

Hi
I have a verbatim 8GB sd card that got into RAW after a bad shutdown of my xperia x8(I think)
well i managed to get it back working to fat32 but now my phone does't recognize it, only the pc sees it so is there any solution to fix this?(NOTE: other cards are recognized so it isn't my phone's fault)

i tied that already. its partitioned with ext4 partition & Linux swap partition would this affect it
I believe Ext4 should be fine, I'm not sure, I know more about Tipo, which uses ext4 as far as I know.
About swap, I am not sure if J or XJ supports it, as tipo or miro support it neither...

U able to format it from phone?

yea i clicked the (blank sdcard or unsupported file system) notification in the draw and it asked me if i want to format i clicked ok but its still the same. its defiantly formated as fat32.
If you have any more SD cards nearby, try them. Or, try this SD card in another Android friend, even a friend's phone for 1 minute. This would help isolate whether it's the SD or the phone. I agree with the user above, I think it's likely a format issue, even though I can see you've tried a few things. On the rare occasion that this has happened to me, it was a format issue.

So I understand you want you files and the card to work on the phone?
The phone supports FAT32 file system, if i'm not mistaken so you should format it to that.
Does a pc read the files on the card? Cause if so, then first copy them to you pc and after formatting back on the card.

Does the pc see the card and tell you it needs to be formatted or doesn't it even show on your pc?
If it doesn't even show up, you could be talking about a broken reader of your computer or a broken card.
If it shows up but you can''t acces, than it might be recoverable.

If your laptop's card reader is ok then check it form the device manager. Do you remember about setting any password to your MMC??
I've seen most of the PC doesn't show a password protected MMC.

Try testdisk (cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk), maybe it can recover your partition table.
Good Luck!

[Q] 64 Gb micro sd card shows as Raw filesystem

So i had this sd card ( micro ) and i tried formating it knowing everything that i once had on it was useless and might as well you know and at the time it was exFAT and formated it again then i put it into my lg g3 and sd sd card is blank or file system is corrupt format sd card so i was like lulz ok den. So i proceed to do so although the error would come back right once it formatted and it was a cycle. So i decided to plug it into my computer and see whats happening so i open the micro sd card in windows explorer and said i needed to format the drive for it to work so now when i try i get a msg saying windows was unable to complete the format . and in dis manager it shows as file system raw and partition healthy and basically i cant use it any more help ??

Of course you're right with the 4GB file limit. But for testing if your sd card still works it should be totally fine. Once the card works, you can format it to exFat in windows.

Try to use SDFormatter. Try different options. If it doesn't help, may be your beloved sd card is (physically) broken.
Fat32
I think you have to format your SD into fat32
