No 32gb Z3 for the UK? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Come on this is 2014, i need at least 24gb for App storage. Looks like ill be forced to buy the note 4
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk

Agreed. I'd much rather import a 32GB Z3 from the UK. Now when I get my TMobile Z3, I'll have to wait for their carrier bs.

Just stick an SD card in and use that for the compatible ones. Most big apps like games and things will happily sit on SD and download their additional data to it. If you get a nice speedy class (6 or above) you'll have no problem.

None of my games sit on the SD card. Baldur's Gate, Bard's Tale together take up over 4 GB of storage space. Not sure I've ever installed a game and it installed to the SDCard.

According to the following document,
http://dl-developer.sonymobile.com/...ria_Z3_D6603_D6633_D6643_D6653_D6616_WP_1.pdf
only the D6616 variant will have 32 GB of internal storage. AFAIK the UK will receive the D6603.

No they dont. Its a real problem. Sony dont do one phone that has more than 16GB in Europe. Although the old short lived xperia T did.
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk

I own Xperia TX and still use it.... Never has Sony done more than 16GB except for some special case imports.... the phone will be out of date by the time you can get your hands on one... worse than that is Android not allowing you to switch anything you like onto SDCard.. Its bad enough that they reserve X GB for system and not allow non critical apps to be completely stored on SDCard.

Root it, install Xposed framework and then use the Obb to SD module to store all the obb files on the SD card.

Oooooor buy the 32GB version. It's not a question of can, I spend 8 hours a day developing. I don't want to spend my free time messing around with the inner workings of my phone.

It's worthwhile rooting and using this mod anyway, even with the 32GB version

Not if you don't have the free time!

Theres loads of apps you cant use if rooted, especially banking apps. You shouldnt have to root and mess about with stuff to get extra app install storage.

Sigh. If you don't want to root then don't. There's loads of apps you can't use if unrooted and I for one wouldn't dream of using a banking app on an insecure, unencrypted mobile device that is prone to be lost or stolen.
I was pointing the way to a mod that helps to save large amounts of space on internal storage. No matter how much internal storage you have, it will always free up some. It's not a replacement for larger internal storage, but a utility that performs a specific and useful function. If you don't want to use it, maybe others reading this thread might want to give it a spin.

Is there a way to root this phone yet? I would love to. I used easy root tools for the Z2 and it made the phone so much more useable. I don't want to flash any roms or anything like that. I simply want access to some of the great root required apps in the playstore.
Thanks

You can gain root access with unlocked bootloader, check development forum.

No SD slot?

[Q] With the Galaxy Nexus coming, my only concern is the lack of SD slot. So I thought I'd ask you Nexus S owners what it's like living without an SD card. Is it a pain, or is it not a big deal outside of not being able to increase space?

I've never once been in a situation where i do not have enough space.
So far it has been more than enough for me. I DO use google music however, so that saves a lot of space.

I believe it brings an SD Card. Also its not a pain at least on my end. I haven't reached 6 gb yet and we all have 16 here. Unless u put massive amounts of music into your Memory then that's when Ull have to worry lol. But there's Google music for that (if u haven't been invited yet) I use it all the time but quality is alright, with voodoo its better than beats

I don't care about no SD card. It is pointless to me.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
i was worried about it too at first but imo the transfer speeds make it all worth it.
and for the record the "16bg" actually amounts to .98gb internal storage and 13.31gb usb storage.
Not a big deal, I hardly fill even half of it..heck my previous milestone with sdcard slot+8gb experienced the same.
again, depends on your usage behavior..horses for courses.
I wasn't sure at first but don't miss having card slot in the end. 16gb is a lot (roughly half full local music and all) and btw the Galaxy Nexus even offers 32gb model (Expansys is listing it in both 16gb and 32gb) if you need more space.
In the end i don't regret getting my Nexus S (I miss not getting it in black tho).
Not a deal breaker in my opinion. Whether it's 16GB or 32GB, you'll find a way to fill it and have to transfer anyways.
I do use my 32GB card for a lot of music, but if Google music becomes more available, then perhaps that won't be an issue. Except I do love my PowerAmp.
Does it make flashing new ROMs any different?

No. Its important to remember there IS a 16 or 32 gb partition that behaves exactly as SD card, the only difference is you cannot remove it. But I don't think of this as a problem because you can just mount it to PC and copy/move everything all the same.

If you want stuff off it it's quicker to mount it and copy
For me, the issue was never about removing it, but more about whether it changed anything as far as modding is concerned. That, and the fact that I could get a galaxy s 2 or even Droid razor with 16 GB of memory then add my 32 GB card for enough space to replace my Zune.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I thought it would be a huge sacrifice before I bought the NS but it has really been a non-issue. There is plenty of space for apps + pictures and I use Subsonic for music. Only issue I foresee is if you plan on shooting several hours of 1080p video as that will easily eat up 16GB.
I've had my NS4G for about 2 weeks after having an xperia x10 for a year with an sd card for storage.
I use mine for music, and I come very close to filling it on a regular basis....I'd love to have the option to recycle my old 8gb card from my old phone, but I can't. And no, it doesn't hold "a ton" of music, as previously stated. I have about 4gb of music and about 4gb for apps, roms, backups, etc. and I have to always pick what music I want to transfer, and what music I am going to sacrifice.
Honestly, it's not THAT big of a deal, but having an option to expand your storage would be a no-brainer, I would think. It's not like it costs that much to add an sd slot...and I'm sure people who use their phone as an mp3 player, video camera, whatever, would happily pay an extra few $$ for the option to be able to expand your storage.
Also, I find it easiest to transfer apps to other people by just backing them up to SD card and inserting it in their phone for a quick install....I can't do this anymore, which means I have to jump through hoops and email the app or worse, use bluetooth, which is always a headache with people who don't know what they are doing.....ALWAYS. SD just saves me from the headaches.
Installing roms, apps, flashing zips, etc is exactly the same...you'll never even notice the difference unless you like to remove your sd card to transfer files all the time, or something like that.
In the long run it's up to you, and if you are used to having expandable storage, you will definitely miss it....but it's the size of the sacrifice that makes it a deal breaker or not.

hey if you want a google music invite PM your email
I rarely miss sd card slot actually never. Google music has all my music and it works every well you can even download your tracks for offline use.Plus my spotify account
I suppose if for someone that wants to load their phone with blueray rips and be able to watch every movie they every owned at any given second it might be a difficult situation.
Flashing roms is the same since your 16gb is partition for internal space then 12gb is left for storage and it acts the same as a sd card, even in a file manager it will show as teh sd card hope this helps
Didn't google release an API for google music, or am I thinking of something else. I would love it if PowerAmp could access google music streaming.

If you don't have a computer or laptop with you, then you can't mount to anything.
I can put GB's of movies on cards and swap them out whenever I want when traveling.
I have 80GB of music. I guess if you have a small amount of music or only want to carry a small % with you, then internal memory is fine.
If you keep phones 2 years (like most do on contract), 32GB might seem like a lot now, but how will that look in 20 months? With a card slot, it isn't an issue- you can upgrade anytime.
All that being said, for most people 32GB with no card slot is probably enough.

internal memory music

hey ive searched but couldnt find a solution....my question is that whether i can play music from internal storage as 4 gb is too much for apps....how can i do that...im on ota ics
Short answer? No. The internal memory is reserved only for the system partition. Even if you could throw some mp3's into a folder in the system side. There's not a music player out there that would look for the files in the system partition. So, no man. You're outta luck.

This is some what useless way to say if there is no other option..... The only real way would be to use something like root explorer..... From there you could move a folder of music from sd to /folder name..... Then from root explorer you could use the music files one at a time .... Best bet go to rat shack and get a 32 gb sd for like $20.....

Well, actually you don't want to stick in /system or /anythingelse, you will bootloop.... If you copy anything to internal storage, it is best to "attempt" put it in /data/music or something, but that is still not a good way to do it. Now this is all just in theory mind you, as it is known that putting things that were not meant to go in certain places on this phone has caused way more heartache than it should and caused more bootloops than I care to elaborate on now.

Some phones have user accessible internal storage and in those phones it's done in a way that the user wont be able to modify critical system files. The Atrix 2 is not one of those phones so if you make a mistake you will get a bootloop like hankbizzo5 said. How did you determine that the SD card was reducing your battery life?
Just make sure you get a class 4 card and you'll be fine.
my battery was draining very fast...so i used battery monitor widget...i showed me 200-300 mA discharge even when screen off....so i formatted....same peroblem....i changed the sd from 16 gb sandisk class 4 to 2 gb ....nw everything is fine
so nothing could be done? i mean galaxy note....s3 all have large internal....cant we do anything abt it?....i mean atrix 2 is one of the best dual cores around...i thought this would be solved with ics...some say moto media centre transfers music to internal but i doubt

Yeah, I got an idea.... go find Jims sig and click on his dropbox link, sign up, and you will have 2.5gbs free online storage and you can even put your files in a public folder to play them from anywhere. Its not 4gb but it could be if you then get other people to sign up.
FWIW, I used a 32gb class 10 from time to time and never really noticed a battery problem. That's interesting.

Most likely
The ROM developers kind of aim at featuring the latest and best aspects the phone has to offer.
So if there is an update on the stock ROM that introduces some fixes or features which are worth implementing they usually do so ASAP.

Yeah, but you still need to root (and mess with triangle away and unrooting in case you need warranty), use foldermount and I'm pretty sure not every single app will work just fine or error free, Google offline maps and music still can't be moved, still too much hassle. Now Samsung should release the 32gb version. I don't get it what's so hard to do it. They win more money releasing the 32gb version.
LE: Oh..yeah...I forget....using foldermount it's still showing that the data is on your phone, even if you move it, right ? If you have 4GB on sd-card will say that you have those 4GB in internal memory (so you can still get warning for low memory even if it's not true. That would be very annoying.

Wrong. Folder mount move the app data to the SD card and the memory informations are correct.
It is very useful for large games. I have 5gb games data and still more than 5gb internal memory.

This doesnt work right? But Move to SD card button doesnt work if you dont have external sd card inside.
I have no idea how this function works. Application size reduces then move to SD card application, but then those files didnt really moved to external sd card.
But if you remove sd card after that, app wont run. WTF..
Did you even try to delete application data after moving and re-download it?
For example with Asphalt or Real Racing....
I'm curious to know were game data are going to store....
Thank you

I really need confirmation for that. One month ago everybody was saying that the apps looks like its installed on the internal memory even if it's moved on the sd card. Storage space for apps

Hello!
So im planning to buy this phone, but there's one problem. I've heard that you only get 2gb of space for the apps. So that left me wondering, is that 2gb of storage only for like apks or for app caches too? Like for example will I be able to install GTA 3, GTA VC and NOVA and Most Wanted all in the same time? They all weigh like 1gb, so that means I can install maybe like 1 or 2 of those games, and that's it? Or the caches of those games go to the rest of the 10gb of storage and I can install them all?
This is the only problem with the phone for me.. I want to be able to install a lot of apps and games, will I be able to do it, without rooting?

Nah the apps themselves (which are 3~4MB) go to app storage and the 1GB game data goes to sdcard0/Android/data so you can install as many as you want at the same time to fit it into 10GB I'd recommend Modern Combat 4 as well if you like NOVA.
EDIT: This does NOT require root either, I had several large games installed on stock.
Hmm, but there is no sd card on One S. So I suppose the rest of the 10gb internal storage serves as an inbuilt sd card, yes? if so then that's great! Thanks!

Oculus apps to sdcard

Is there a way to move oculus apps to sdcard? I've just started using this thing and only 14.81 Gb is left . Reminds me Htc desire times, when we had ~140 mb of internal storage.. Well apps on those days were 100 kb - 2 mb in size Now oculus eats gazillions bytes of precious internal storage.
I skimmed few articles about adoptive storage, but as far as I understand Samsung throwed this away
I thought you could move most apps to SD card, have you tried?
If it cannot move the Oculus apps to SD, then VR is going to flop. As 32 GB (24GB actually) is really insufficient to hold regular + VR apps.

I went to one of my games for example and changed the storage location and it moved everything. I had to go to the application manager to do it. when you open the application in there just select the storage type which mentions internal and select internal and click move. worked like a charm

@vukis, can you confirm that @peachpuff's solution works? I've only had my phone for about a month and am already out of space!!! I'll be more than happy to go buy a larger SD card if this method will work.

Yes it works, make sure type out the disk stuff properly and migrate data at the end.
Didn't work for me - many Oculus games and apps don't give you the option to move them to the external storage (yes, even with adoptable storage configured).

Well crap! Haven't bought my card yet. Waiting for a good deal on a 200GB, I only have a 32GB now. Maybe by then they'll fix this. I have about 6 or so VR apps/games and it's killing my space! How did they miss this? Seems like such a blunder to give these headsets out on a phone with limited memory and not give people the ability to add more!
Can confirm. With latest Samsung update can move regular apps to sdcard but not a single oculus app or game can move to adoptable storage.

The phone should have come with 64GB option really. The SD card, even the Samsung Evo Pro+ is slow. Actually, the internal memory controler for the SD card is half the speed of what the Pro+ supports on a PC. Sad really, and it's such a sweet phone. What a shame!

Probably on purpose because running huge VR games off a (possibly) slow SD card would cause performance issues.

I thought you could move most apps to SD card, have you tried?

To use the adaptable storage method you need at least a U3 card. I was about to buy one when I came across this app on google play:
Link2SD allows you to move Gear VR apps to external storage. I have moved 3 successfully and have not encounter a problem. There is a plus version which allows you to link after moving but I'm loving the free version so far!
