LEGO Controller Mount - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Hi all,
This is my homemade controller mount for the Galaxy Note 8.0 entirely made of LEGOs that I used to play with... Some years ago :crying:
I did not have a lot of pieces and I only used the ones I found in the basement, that's why it looks like... That. It looks like that.
Here it is:

Ingredients:
- Random Lego pieces looted around
- OTG cable
- Random controller
- A drill
Back view: the grey parts are there just to make it more solid, they're not essential.
Top view:
In the next pic you can see the feature that makes me the most proud: the whole thing is removable and I can use the controller as a normal one. The only part that it takes a long time to remove are two Lego pieces sticking out of its bottom, but they are not in the way while using it. Moreover, no Lego piece was harmed or glued in the whole process: they can all be re-used.
The next one is the "hook" that actually bears the weight of the tablet. As you know, this tablet is really heavy, so it was hard to find a stable and safe way to hold it up. I was lucky the hook worked: it actually keeps it in place even if you shake it a little bit (I haven't done any crash testing, I'm not rich enough for a new tablet ).
A view of the bottom:
The bottom once the mount is removed:
The two pieces are kept in place by other pieces on the inside of the controller assembled in a "U" shape. The only forces that act on them are towards the bottom, so there's no way it's coming off. I was lucky that the pieces I had to put on the inside do not get in the way of the board, but instead they make it work a little bit better, since they keep the board slightly pushed upwards, so the buttons are more sensitive (without, however, pushing too much).
The hardest part of the whole build was drilling the two holes, but it wasn't so bad. However, I would never have used an expensive controller to do such thing.
Overall, the buttons on the Note are accessible (that's the reason why it's not symmetrical) and it provides a decent, but heavy, gaming experience. It's far better for playing anywhere that's not a chair+desk setup than having to rely on the case to keep it vertical.
That's all, I hope you like it and that it inspires some madness in other people

Well, I guess I'm going to buy some Lego today...

Pretty cool.

[Q] DHD Case Advice

Hi everyone,
i am expecting my DHD to be shipped on Monday (hopefully )
so instead of waiting restlessly in front of my computer screen i decided to design my own case for the DHD since most online cases don't fit my taste.
as of now i've made the first prototype design and would like to ask you for general advice and help.
my two questions are as follows:
1. since i do not have the device at hand i don't know the exact dimensions so could anyone tell me (based on the pics) if you think the prototypes are of the right size?
2. i am not sure which design to go for, could you tell me which do you think looks best and the criteria on which you based your opinion?
thanks
note about the pics: i also included pics of a smaller card holder which i had previously made to show how the laser engraving actually looks like (i think this time the laser strength was too powerful as it cut through the material xD) and how the thread is supposed to look like (i made the android one in a hurry as i had to finish an essay before i could go out xD)
also, my favourite atm is the androids design but the wax which i tried melting on it seemed to make it look worse than i thought it would, probably cos the laser cut out too much xD, so i would also like to ask you, do you think i should make the background androids larger to increase detail or do they look ok that way?
heh another note: TEKBOI/ TEK301 is my usual nickname, that's why i engraved it
finally, the case prototypes , i hope you like them
EDIT: Thanks apprentice for letting me know about the pics :/ i think they should work now

are they visible now?
tomorrow i should have time to cut out another case but i'm not sure if i should keep the same design or not, i am not sure wether to blame to intricate design of the androids or the higher laser setting, i'll trychanging both probably xD
wow. they are amazing! i prefer the simpler design, but both are very cool.
I actually remade the Android one but enlarged the background androids this time. I attached a pic I just took with the dhd cos I'm not home. Once I got the phone I made a smaller design as this one is slightly too big and I also changed the Android sizes again. I haven't had time to go cut it yet though :/
Thanks btw xD

Craigsdocks.com LANDSCAPE Dock-Mini Review

Hi all!
I just wanted to kick off this Friday with a little treat of sorts. I have just purchased the latest landscape version of the dock where I had previously have gotten my portrait one (which I love btw) here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181292 .
Anyway, because craigsdocks.com has been a great store/guy to buy from, I had to try out this version as well. And I must say this landscape is really pretty nice. But for my personal preference and lack of desk space, I think I may stick with the portrait one...maybe not lol....
With the landscape model, this dock can easily be used with other phones like the Thunderbolt and Incredible, and Incredible 2. And the best part of these docks, you can use literally ANY case you want with this dock, granted it's not a HUGE case lol....
Any negatives? Hmmm... well I did have a bit of a battle with the tape and making sure that the micro usb port wasn't too far up. Other than that it's just a space issue that can be easily worked on with the supplied allen wrench.
On the dock itself, you can see the dock is lined with a soft felt padding and the dock is made of aluminum there's a little recessed space for volume buttons as well. The bottom is lined with rubber so that it won't be sliding off of a smooth surface. This guy thought of everything! Including the little notches to run your cord whichever way works best for your phone. Pretty nifty IMO.
Like the portrait version, this has a great weight to it and because of the rubber grip, this sucker isn't going to slide off very easily.
As for triggering clock mode or dock mode, I made a short vid on youtube to illustrate how to do it with a great program called llama location profile. Once you set this up, dock/clock or whatever mode can be made to come up. BE NICE I just put this together at work lol....
But please ask any questions you may have on the dock and/or the program.
Have fun people!

[APP] Call of Duty Elite now available!

For those waiting for the Android version to be released, it was this morning! Unfortunately, it appears to be just a port of the iPhone version. Our Android keys (Menu, Home, Back, Search) do not work. So bigger screens may have an issue reaching the in-app keys at the top of the screen. Other than that, it's pretty well polished. Changed some classes this morning and sent them to the game.

Ah the ever classic PP90M1 class. Put some rapid fire on that baby, be ridiculously overpowered (and be left without a bullet after 5 kills...).

Lol. I've tried rapid fire on it before. Took it off immediately. That's my Drop Zone class. Although I usually switch between the pp90 and the mp7.
EDIT: Found the APK, HERE it is if anyone else needs it.

Call me a noob, but I'm all about the pp90m1 with rapid fire. I keep hearing people complaining about how it's overpowered as if they couldn't play with it themselves... Good times
HATE ****ty iphone ports Sky News do it!
Thanks tho, but these lazy devs annoy me!

DIY Wallmount TF700

I am working on a wallmount for my TF700 atm, so once entering the door to my apartment i can grab and operate my house automation software with it.
Basically the 3D modell is done in Google Sketchup.

Sliced the modell into a back-, mid- and frontplate, and exported it into a dwg-file which you can find in the zip attachment.

I will use my local carpenter to provide me with the plates and work my way forward from this point. Please be advised i have not had time to cut the plates yet since i am quite busy irl atm.
Some work i still need to finish:
- thin rubberband between the tablet and wood, for easy safe sliding into the wallmount
- charging hole @ the bottom
- the mount system itself, hopefully removeable mayby integrate a kickstand so i can even place it on a table
Questions:
Is there a pin layout for the bottom charging plug, i heared it should also support audio out for external speakers there or can this only be achived by the headphone interface at the side of the tablet?
well done. looks nice
I would also recommend to cut-out a small piece in the top-middle of the back-plate. This will probably allow you to more easily grasp at the device.
Rubber does not make a good slide. I would suggest putting a layer of smooth fabric over the rubber to smoothen it.
Silk or Lycra (Lycra is cheaper) should work. Lycra has a better heat regulation than regular cotton, but normal cotton could work too if you're low on budget.
How will you be attaching it to the wall?
I like this idea!
What sort of home automation do you use? Something similar to Brighthouse Networks?
I find that a heavy duty felt works very well as a smooth barrier between two objects. Mostly, I've used it to keep my wood furniture from scratching the new floors, but the same principle applies obviously with glass & wood. It provides a good deal of padding beyond just the low friction surface, and it's also super cheap to boot.

Case + Notebook + Pen Slot?

Did a quick search and didn't find what I was looking for.
I'm in the Navy and I keep PDFs of all important instructions on my Note 8. I use it all the time at work. I go to a lot of meetings and take notes on a regular 5.5 x 8 inch notepad, I have sticky notes, highliters, and an assortment of pens with me. Im looking for a case that will hold my Note 8 on one side, my notepad on the other side, ans still have slots for pens.
When I first got this I ordered what I thought was exactly what I described above on Amazon. When I got it, turns out the dimensions weren't exactly accurate . It's simply too big to walk around with all day. It's more of what I'd picture an art student would carry around.
I'm looking for something compact, not much bigger than the Tablet itself but with room on the opposite side for a notepad and slots for pens.
Im kicking around a few ideas on Amazon but im afraid to order without the opinion of someone who owns and uses one with the Note 8, in fear of another poor purchase.
Thanks everyone!!
I've been using one of the green "leader book" holders from Rite in the Rain for a little while now; item number C9200A. It's not perfect, and I haven't figured out a way to keep the Note 8 really secured in the binder itself, but there are several pen slots which are big enough to hold a highligher/sharpie/etc, and a few other slots and pockets for smart cards or anything else. And the dimensions are perfect for holding the tablet.
The ones we get from supply (I'm Army btw), come with a packet of inserts that has graphed notebook paper, and fillable pages for things like a 9-line MEDEVAC request, call for fire request, unexploded ordinance, and others. Some of it might be Army specific, but I'm sure you could find it useful too
Anyway, I've been in the same boat as you for awhile, and besides finding some "tactical" (lol) iPad Mini cases/binders, I haven't been able to find much. Let me know if you find something better!
http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Samsu...&sr=8-2&keywords=galaxy+note+8+case+executive
This is one other I was looking at, but it doesn't look like it has any room for a notebook. We don't have a supply! But I'll look into what you posted and keep on looking for something. Right now I got a nylon foldable case from the Chaplains that's working well, but having the same problem as the tablet not being totally secure.
Also, it's big!
Thanks for the input!
I use this one. I don't use the planner, but the notepad on top. I then insert the tablet into the pouch below.
