Need preloader.bin file to unbrick my A850
Hello,
May I ask anyone here a favor please?, I just bricked my Lenovo A850 after flashing a ROM I download from needrom. and it was A850_S128_130929. Now my device is totally dead, can't power on, can't enter recovery / bootloader. But, fortunately, it still can communicate with PC as Mediatek Preloader, Mediatek DA
Thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/len...ashing-rom-t3322646/post65511563#post65511563
Thus, I would like to ask anyone who already download this S121 ROM can share the 'Preloader.bin' file located in ROM folders.:highfive: ( zip it > upload to your cloud storage > share the link )
*If this preloader.bin work with my device, I will download all the ROM files.
Found some info in several threads I googled, it won't turning power ON because a corrupted 'preloader.bin' been flashed. So I have to flash this single file using SP flash tools. Hope it will fix.
Many thanks!

Thank you ×1000 (very much) ??

iBerry Auxus CoreX2 3G / CoreX4 3G Root/Guide

Anyone got this tab yet? I received my Auxus CoreX2 couple of days back. Trying to find ways to root the device. Currently stuck at finding USB drivers for the tab. When you connect the Tab to PC, it allows mounting storage as USB drive (which means no ADB access). If anyone has any inputs on things I should try, please share.
Update: Root successful. Apologies for the delay, but the tutorial is coming very soon. Stay tuned.
Update 2: Tutorial will go live on 1st February by the end of the day. In the meanwhile another rooting method posted by someone else seems to be working on both CoreX2 as well as CoreX4
Update 3: Firmware update instructions added
Update 4: Firmware update instructions for CoreX4 added

Rooting Options:
Method 1: Courtesy user @Kudremukh. It seems to be working on CoreX4 as well (CoreX2 is confirmed).
Finally I am able to root my Auxus Core X2 3G Tab. For this I first checked the chipset details of tab. I found It is Rock Chip. After searching on net I found 2 links on the web on rooting rockchip based tab rooting

Procedure of rooting:-
1. go to first link and download the App ( it is a chinees app) mentioned in the link
2. Enable USB debug mode on your tab
3. Lauch the application you just downloaded and connect tab to pc
4. if your device not recognised when connected to PC, then you download and install "chinees android manager" application from the second link.
5. If your device recognised then click on " ROOT" button ( actually it is not button, it is a link with chinees language). You can see the image in the second link.
6. Thats it YOUR DEVICE IS NOW ROOTED.
7. In my case I tried twice the same procedure to get root acces.

Method 2: Rooting using ADB

This is almost the same method I used for rooting. I can confirm that this will work 100%.

Instructions to update firmware on CoreX2 3G (Tested on Windows 7, not working on Windows 8)
1. Switch-off the tablet and make sure the tablet sufficiently charged (I would suggest 50% charge as minimum)
2. Connect the USB cable to tablet (But don't connect it to PC)
3. Press and hold the HOME button (triangular) on the tablet and simultaneously connect the other end of USB cable to PC.
4. Your PC will show "Found new hardware" and it will search for driver. Drivers are located in the folder "Drivers". Let windows search for drivers in the "Drivers" folder and allow it is install drivers even if it complains about the drivers not being digitally signed.
5. If you don't get "new hardware" notification on your PC, try the following:
a. Shutdown the tablet by pressing and holding power button for 10 seconds.
b. Connect the USB cable to PC (don't connect the other end of the cable to tablet yet).
c. Press and Hold the Home button on tablet and simultaneously insert cable in the tablet.
d. You should now see "new hardware found" wizard on Windows.
4. Open the file "CoreX2-3G-Tool.exe". If the drivers were successfully installed, a green box will appear under "Connected Devices". If no green box comes up, restart your PC and follow the entire procedure to install drivers again.
6. Click "Upgrade" button and the process will start automatically.
IMPORTANT:
Do NOT press Cancel or Disconnect the Tablet from PC during the upgrade process as it will render your tablet un-bootable and useless.

Turn-off your tablet PC, insert the MicroSD and then press and hold the 'Volume -' button and the power button to reinstall the firmware.
Once the firmware update is complete, the tablet PC will turn-OFF. Press and hold the power button to turn-ON your tablet PC and complete the firmware update." (courtesy: Iberry India technical support team)

Solution to CoreX4 stuck in boot-loop (courtesy: ajayap.hk)
Hello,
In your update 4 on first post, I noticed you have provide a quote as to how to correct if things go wrong. I request you to kindly add a line about how to turn the tab off.
I did the following,
1. Tried by inserting the sd card with the stock firmware and then pressing the hidden button b/w the sd card and sim card slots and the power and volume down ("V-") button simultaneously prompting it to re-install my firmware.
2. This was the only way by which I could re-install as you cant switch off this tab when its stuck in boot loop.

My Dad just bought a AUXUS CoreX4 3G. Am waiting eagerly to root it and also wanted to install JB. I see some other devices of iBerry have JB installed on them but this one has ICS. Also this device CoreX4 3G is having problems with the Phone/Mobile part of it. The calls are not audible when on speaker mode even on full volume. and if we donot switch on the Data access over mobile network, strangely it doesnot connect to the mobile network.
Hoping if i Install a JB of some custom rom it will help improve the touch sensitivity and mobile network access control.

It is CoreX4 right? I am going to try this method and I want to make sure it is not a spelling mistake.
BTW, I am having a strange problem with the tablet. If charging is being done, regardless of how, the screen behaves very strangely. It registers touch input at random places automatically. I tried the charger included with the tablet, usb power charging, usb system charging. All behave in the same manner. This only happens when you have the tablet flatly grounded on a surface. If you lift the tablet in your hands, the problem goes away.
Can somebody confirm? I want to know that is this an issue with only my tablet or is a problem found across the board.
Update:
I called iBerry customer care and the guy on the phone confirmed that this is indeed a problem plagueing these tablets. He was giving me all kind of lame reasons, like "the battery is huge, it needs more power", "it might be happening because of voltage fluctuations", "it has ips screen, so power surges while charging can cause the issue". I have a iPad2 too so I quelled all his excuses.
So it seems this issue is a known issue with the tablet. The only way to use your tablet while charging is to keep it in your hands. Otherwise the performance of the tablet is quite impressive.
Happy to know
FIRST SWITCH OFF AND ON YOUR DEVICE AND PLUG IN YOUR CHARGER TO electric socket and 2nd insert the charger pin into your female charging port on your tablet and check it it will slove your malfunction .

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G [WITH VIDEO AND VOICE TUTORIAL]

***ONLY FOR RELAYS RUNNING ICS 4.0.4***
Samsung had just released the official Jelly Bean 4.1 update for this phone on April 22 or so and this root method only works for Ice Cream Sandwich devices.
I know there's already a thread of how to root the ICS Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G which is right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34515281 but I thought that it may be hard for some people to do it without a visual tutorial. Here's my helpful tutorial video of how to root the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G: https://plus.google.com/u/0/108388305247615258469/videos <-- You can easily find the video because it's the only video on that album.
Files Needed:
Winrar: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0
Odin v3.07: http://www.4shared.com/zip/CGo6TP1O/Odin307.html? or for the latest and updated versions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841
Rooted System IMG: http://www.4shared.com/rar/nhGK59WR/SGHT699_rootedtar.html?
CWM File: http://www.4shared.com/zip/wLHTlktW/cwmtar.html?
If none of the links above work, message me at [email protected] or reply to this topic and I will reupload the files.
Steps:
1) On your phone, go to Settings-->Developer Options and turn on USB Debugging.
2) Turn off your phone and put it in Download Mode/Odin mode.
3) Download the odin307, sght699_rooted.tar, and that cwm.tar files from the links given above.
4) Extract all the files with WinRAR or other file extracting programs.
5) Open Odin v3.07
6) Make sure that it says "Added!" on the bottom left box. If it doesn't say Added, unplug and plug your phone from the computer.
7) Deselect/Uncheck "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time"
8) Click on Phone and a pop up should come up.
9) Find the SGHT699_rooted folder that you extracted in Step 4 and open the file inside it.
10) Click Start. This will take a while but it should not take more than 14 minutes.
11) Once it's done, click Reset.
12) Unplug and plug your phone again. It should say "Removed!" when unplugged and "Added!" when plugged on the bottom left box.
13) Deselect/Uncheck "F. Reset Time" but this time, keep the "Auto Reboot" marked/checked.
14) Click on PDA and a popup should come up.
15) Find the cwm folder that you extracted in Step 4 and open the cwm.tar.md5 file.
16) Click Start.
Once it finishes, your phone should reboot and be rooted. To check if it is actually rooted, go on Applications and find Superuser. If it is there, then you are rooted. Enjoy!!
Very nice. You are missing information, need to add the original posts/threads for the files that you mirrored so we can get version numbers and dates associated with the downloads. Feel free to edit the wiki in my sig if you want to help!
Ok. Thanks, but there's a problem. The files I mirrored other than Odin v3.07 are gone. The original link where the original tutorial was is gone. I had the link in my bookmarks but when I click on it, the webpage is unavailable. Ive tried viewing it from other computers and devices and it still wont work. So I decided to make a new one. Thanks again! The links should be updated in a few.

What's UVAMA2?
USB won't connect properly; want to un-root
You're rooting video was very helpful.
However, now that the phone is rooted, when I try to connect to my computer with USB cable, I get error message to the effect that the computer can't recognize the hardware ID of the device, so can't back-up the files on the phone or the SD card. I have all the latest Samsung USB drivers, and the computer recognizes that a Samsung device is connected, but the USB connection fails anyway.
How do I un-root the phone - do I have to boot up in download mode and use ODIN? Will this wipe my data, or just go back to the unrooted ROM and keep my data intact?

I know there's already a thread of how to root the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G which is right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34515281 but I thought that it may be hard for some people to do it without a visual tutorial. Here's my helpful tutorial video of how to root the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKgemJTeRWo
Enjoy!!

Oops, sorry. Forgot the part of your reply that said you've installed all the drivers. What do you mean by it can't recognize it? Does the SGH-T699 still show up on your My Computer?
If you want to unroot, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166242
Just follow the steps and no, it won't wipe out all your data (Well, it didn't wipe mine, but I'm sure it won't.)

When I connect the USB cable, Windows has a popup message that says:
" Hardware ID missing
Windows cannot identify the device plugged into the Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device.
For assistance, contact the hardware manufacturer"
Sometimes it tries - and fails - to install the MTP device driver.
However, when I go into Windows Device Manage, it does list SAMSUNG Android Phone | SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface, and when trying to update its drivers, it says I have the most up to date ones installed.
- What does "Hardware ID missing" mean? How do I get the phone to communicate with the computer using USB?
I thought it might have to do with Android Ice Cream Sandwich and the media device (MTP) protocol for USB, but, I had no problems getting the computer to recognize my son's (unrooted) Galaxy S 3, which also has ICS and is pretty similar to the Galaxy S Relay 4G. That's why I suspect the problem is with my rooted version.
Is there anything else I should try before un-rooting the phone?

Already tried both. USB driver is OK, the problem is with MTP. Kies only works via WiFi; does not recognize device with USB. I also tried Samsung tech support's suggestions, none of which changed the situation

Have you tried downloading the SDK Manager from "http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html"? Open the big file that you just downloaded and open up SDK Manager. Install the Google USB Driver and as well as the Android SDK Tools and Android SDK Platform-tools. Once downloaded, go back to the android-sdk-windows folder and go to the "platform-tools" folder inside and hold Shift and right click on "adb" and select "Open Command Window Here" of something like that. The command prompt will open. Type in "adb devices" and tell me what comes up. If you see your device(It should be a bunch on numbers and letters) on there, it means it is recognizable. This might not solve your problem as I do not know what "Hardware ID missing" exactly is. But I will do some research.
I did as you suggested, and was able to see my phone when I ran "adb devices" from the command prompt. And, Windows, recognizes it too, because when I click on the button to remove attached USB devices, it lists SAMSUNG_Android_SGH-T699. But, I still get the hardware ID missing message whenever I connect the USB cable. Frustrating! But, thanks for trying to help me - you seem very knowledgeable.
What you can try and do to fix the USB hardware error is go to control panel then go to "uninstall a program" and uninstall the samsung driver once you uninstalled it reconnect your phone and let it reinstal the files and i believe it should fix your problem
Samsung Noob here with a question.
Ok, I know this is gonna sound kinda noobish, but I come from HTC phones, and this is my first Samsung. Do I need to flash ClockworkMod Recovery on this, or do I flash a rom to the 4G Relay using Odin? If I use Odin, can someone give a quick overview on how?

you'll need to install a recovery as you did on HTC as ROMs usually come as recovery-flashable zips.
there's a cwm recovery available here which can flashed using Odin. If you don't like the cwm on the relay you can flash TWRP from cwm over it. TWRP comes with more options and the touchscreen-control you might be used to.
from (any) recovery you can just install update zip-files just as you used to on your HTC.
I had used the "howto root the Galaxy S Relay" thread, and then realized, I should just SU and reboot recovery. :victory:

If anybody else got this error do the following:
- uninstall all samsung drivers / software
- connect your phone to the pc
- the driver installation should 'fail', but you can access the storage
- install the samsung drivers now while phone is plugged in
After the installation the phone will be recognized and everything is fine - this worked twice for me now, so I guess it should do it.

. Here's what you need, to begin with : 1. A Gionee
P2 with more than 50% charge (less will do but try
and be safe), 2. A Windows PC, 3. The Gionee P2
usb cable.
Got it all? Good for you. Take a breath. Relax. And
now... here we go.
First, download the Walton Primo F2 stock rom
from HERE - http://www.mediafire.com/download/
terzpsp1k1jw8a2/F2_firmware.rar
Now, unrar the archive. Once you are done with
that, you have to install the usb driver in your
computer so that your phone gets recognized even
when it’s turned off and without a battery. And you
must do so manually. So first, unzip the ‘USB
VCOM Driver’ package inside the ‘Drivers’ folder.
Now the installation. Here’s how you go about
that.
In Windows, go to Control Panel and open Device
Manager.
Click any of the device groups you see here.
From ‘Action Menu’, select ‘Add Legacy Hardware’
The ‘Add Hardware Wizard’ will open up. Click
Next.
Select ‘Install the hardware that I manually select
from a list (Advanced)’
Click Next 2 times, then click the ‘Have Disk’
button
Click Browse and find where the downloaded,
unrar-ed firmware folder is. Go to Drivers > USB
VCOM Driver > select the .inf file compatible with
your Windows OS (XP, Vista or Win7, 32 bit or 64
bit)
Click Open and OK. The driver will be listed. Then
click Next. The driver will finish installing.
Well, now that you’re done with the driver
installation, time to flash your phone using SP
Tools.
Go to ‘Flash Tools’ folder, unrar the
SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1312.0.139 package, click
3-4 times to go deep into it where there will be a
collection of files, find the little blue ‘Flash_tool’
application file, double click on it to run. The
interface will open up.
Click on ‘Download Agent’, browse to the same
folder where you found the ‘Flash_tool’ application,
and select MTK_AllinONne_DA.
Now click on scatter loading, browse to Software >
Primo-F2_0301_T5159. Then select the text
document called ‘MT6572_Android_scatter’.
Now click Firmware-> Upgrade and then connect
the usb cable with moble while the battery is
removed.
Now insert battery. It’ll star downloading. Hold
your breath and wait.
After a few minutes it will show a pop up saying
‘Firmware Upgrade’ with a nice green circle. Now,
you’re done. Next time you turn on your phone it
will be running a shiny new rom, and work like a
newly-bought phone!
Of course, don’t forget to do a factory reset first
thing when you boot up your phone!

Battery is pretty Good. The 1,700 mAh battery is big for a budget phone with a 4-inch WVGA display. It have dual core processor In my use battery lasted about 24-35 Hrs. I was surprised P2 have HSPA+ Connectivity
, this phone uses Gionee’s own UI. I feel that Phones needs at least 756 MB RAM (it have only 512MB, But it is enough for budget phone)
Gionee Pioneer P2 performed very well. Unfortunately P2's 5 megapixel camera disappoints. It is fixed Focus. pictures look really washed out and dull. Over light Exposure. Overall P2 is Good

UNBRICK Gionee Pioneer P2 using the stock rom of Walton Primo F2

Hey guys! Have you run into trouble while using your brand new Gionee Pioneer P2? Have you deleted some system files and now apps are crashing all around you? Or have you somehow bricked your phone? Problem is the stock rom of P2 isn't available on the internet yet, nor are there any custom roms to bail you from this situation at this point. But all hope is not lost.
Enter the Walton Primo F2. It has identical hardware specs as the P2, except for a different primary camera. They look the same as well. Without any doubt they are manufactured by the same Chinese company and sold in different countries with different re-branding and minimal modifications. The stock rom of Primo F2 is 100% compatible with Pioneer P2. And since the installation method is an SP Tool flash, it works on bricked devices as well. All you need is a Pioneer P2 that you want to flash, a Windows PC and a micro-usb cable. Here's how you do the deed.
NOTE : since I am not allowed to post links yet, I'm putting them here in fragments. Please copy the url to your browser and remove the spaces.

NOTE : since I am not allowed to post links yet, I'm putting them here in fragments. Please copy the url to your browser and remove the spaces.
First, download the Walton Primo F2 stock rom from HERE - http: // www .mediafire. com/ download/ terzpsp1k1jw8a2/ F2_firmware . rar
Now, unrar the archive. Once you are done with that, you have to install the usb driver in your computer so that your phone gets recognized even when it’s turned off and without a battery. And you must do so manually. So first, unzip the ‘USB VCOM Driver’ package inside the ‘Drivers’ folder. Now the installation. Here’s how you go about that.
In Windows, go to Control Panel and open Device Manager.
Click any of the device groups you see here.
From ‘Action Menu’, select ‘Add Legacy Hardware’
The ‘Add Hardware Wizard’ will open up. Click Next.
Select ‘Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)’
Click Next 2 times, then click the ‘Have Disk’ button
Click Browse and find where the downloaded, unrar-ed firmware folder is. Go to Drivers > USB VCOM Driver > select the .inf file compatible with your Windows OS (XP, Vista or Win7, 32 bit or 64 bit)
Click Open and OK. The driver will be listed. Then click Next. The driver will finish installing.
Well, now that you’re done with the driver installation, time to flash your phone using SP Tools.
Go to ‘Flash Tools’ folder, unrar the SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1312.0.139 package, click 3-4 times to go deep into it where there will be a collection of files, find the little blue ‘Flash_tool’ application file, double click on it to run. The interface will open up.
Click on ‘Download Agent’, browse to the same folder where you found the ‘Flash_tool’ application, and select MTK_AllinONne_DA.
Now click on scatter loading, browse to Software > Primo-F2_0301_T5159. Then select the text document called ‘MT6572_Android_scatter’.
Now click Firmware-> Upgrade and then connect the usb cable with moble while the battery is removed.
Now insert battery. It’ll star downloading. Hold your breath and wait.
After a few minutes it will show a pop up saying ‘Firmware Upgrade’ with a nice green circle. Now, you’re done. Next time you turn on your phone it will be running a shiny new rom, and work like a newly-bought phone!
Of course, don’t forget to do a factory reset first thing when you boot up your phone!
So that’s about it. If you have any doubts of troubles, ask them here. Good luck flashing!
P.S. And of course it should go without saying that I’m not responsible for any possible damages your device incurs during this procedure. Your device manufacturer warranty will be null and void the moment you go down this road. So if you feel brave enough, proceed.

I hope this will solve the problem of NO SIM CARD DETECTED in my own GIONEE P2? but thanks. this looks helpful even though I have not tried it yet.

The stock rom of Primo F2 is 100% compatible with Pioneer P2. And since the installation method is an SP Tool flash, it works on bricked devices as well. You sound like you had the problem before you flashed your phone with this rom, and the situation remained the same even after you ported this firmware to your phone. That, I'm afraid, is a clear indication of a hardware problem. Take your phone to an engineer as soon as you can. Your manufacturer warranty, unfortunately, is no longer valid, unless you have a way to restore your phone to the original stock rom.

Yes, I did have the same problem before porting in this ROM but I thought this would help solve the issue but it did not. Even in the process, the internal partition of my phone was greatly changed which I am afraid may not allow me to gain warranty again even I tried to restore the default Gionee OS.
I noticed something in the files of the WALTON PRIMO which seems to be similar to that of the GIONEE which I backed up using MTK Droid tool. i am now wondering if it's possible for me to simply copy and replace some of the files especially the "boot.img" and the "recovery.img" so I can have GIONEE back and then I can return for warranty.
Also, is there any way for me to flash the radio ROM cos it seems as if the porting did not in any way touch the radio part of the phone at all which I suppose is why the SIM issue persisted; likewise the USB debugging automatically turn on anytime it is connected to a laptop, could this also have an effect and how can it be FULLY RESTORED to factory default setting?
Thanks in advance

Copying and pasting parts of the OS is not advisable. It may leave the ROM fragmented and you don't want to add a shaky software on top of a potential hardware issue. If you have a full back up of the original Gionee P2 rom, fully restore it, flash it back to how it was, unroot it and you will have your warranty back. Otherwise you can still look for reputed experts who work independently in different shops or centres and they can fix the network hardware for an affordable fee. Good luck.
How do I flash it back from MTK droid backup?

Hi, I have all files of the P2 but I have tried all zip applications I can lay my hands on like WinZip, WinRAR, 7zip and none of them is able to extract the system.img file for me to get anything out of it. Do you have any ideas how I can go about it?
Thanks

Hey man, since you already unbricked your phone, you must be having the drivers installed. So, based on that assumption, all you gotta do is:
Open sp flash tools and repeat the process of selecting the 'Download Agent' and the 'Scatter loading File'.
Keep your phone's battery removed.
Now select 'Firmware Upgrade' option in the SP flash tools.
Connect your phone to your computer (with the battery removed).
SP Flash tools will start the updating/flashing process on your phone.
Insert the battery and wait a few minutes.
You should see a green circle appear in a window.
Then remove the battery, re-insert it and switch on your phone.
You're back to the Stock Wlalton-Primo OS
(Refer my guide on akandroiddevs.blogspot.com if you wanna root your phone)
Hope this helps.

Hey man, The ''Code 10 Error'' is caused mainly because your drivers are either not installed properly or they're corrupted. So wht you gotta do is:
1.Uninstall the drivers of your previous phone
2.Uninstall previously installed drivers of your Gionee P2
3.Restart Your Computer.
Then as for installing the MTK Drivers follow the given on the main post itself, i.e.

Just wanted to ask that does this tool flash the recovery as well? Or just the stock rom? In case i would want to return to stock recovery from CWM, will SP Flash Tool help?
"NO SIM DETECTED" resolved
Thanks all. I tried everything on my Gionee P2 but still showing no sim detected. The issue was resolved after taking it back to Gionee workshop where it was reloaded or whatever was done and all issues resolved. The phone is now back to normal and that done within a space of an hour or so.

yes I guess so. SP flash should flash the recovery rom with little modifications made. I am not a pro yet but I believe it can.

Hey daves3ng, thanks for the reply.
Are you talking about the recovery ROM or the stock RECOVERY? You are talking about flashing the recovery rom whereas i am asking about the stock recovery.
I am still confused about whether SP Flash could bring back the stock recovery on flashing or not. I own the P2 and i just want to flash a custom recovery (CWM, COT or CTR) followed by some nice roms which are available here.
The only thing i am worried about is that in case an issue arises and i have to flash the stock rom using SP Flash Tools, will i get the stock recovery back as well, or not.

Lenovo A8-5500-HV A8-5500-H ROMS

Good day!
I am posting here in the hope it helps someone. If I am posting in the wrong place or doing something else wrong please do let me know.
I am going to post some links & some text instructions but will explain the outline first.
I own a Lenovo A8-5500-H tablet, lenovo H variants according to the internet are made with the same hardware as their HV varients but a different ROM. H's have 3g data & wifi but not voice calling, HV's have 3d data & wifi & voice calling. After some googling & translating from Russian I discovered the ROM for the H but not the HV, then a few days ago the HV was posted - with the most dreadful instructions in Russian that translated poorly & still involved some faffing around. Anywho I can confirm that you can load the HV rom onto the H and get the 3g calls and all the other pre installed lenovo stuff. The phone is not rooted. The only advantage is that the H is about £50 less than the HV to purchase.
I have permission of the author to share his program and the rom. My links are to the russian lenovo forum where you may have to register.
After the links I will put my own instructions (within this post) which are much easier to follow than russian ones. Again I hope this helps someone.
http://lenovo-forums.ru/files/file/582-lenovo-a8-a5500-a5500hv-a442-000-017-140709-row-call/ this is th a8-5500-hv rom.
http://lenovo-forums.ru/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=15372 this is the lenovo driver pack - you need to use this & not windows own.
http://lenovo-forums.ru/files/file/549-%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%BE%D1%88%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%BA%D0%B0-lenovo-a8-%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B4%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B8%D0%B4-442-a5500h-a442-000-013-140526-row/ this is the original ROM incase you make a mistake and need to start again.
NOT FOR USE ON THE -F VARIANT.
ENGLISH INSTRUCTIONS
This is not a direct translation. This provides directions for installing the Lenovo A8-5500-HV Rom onto a Lenovo A8-5500-H device for the perpose of making 3g calls. I have tested this function and method and verify that it works.
However I take no responsibility for you or you device.
Apparently with Lenovo wherever they have a H & HV variant the hardware is the same and the ROMs interchangeable. I have not verified this.
Lets go!
1. Don't Panic. If it doesn't work, you should not have bricked your device, just reload the original ROM.
2. Equipment needed - USB lead to attach device to PC / laptop, preferably the original but another powered lead will do the job ... Your tablet ... a laptop or PC ....
3. Files needed .. Original rom for if you go wrong, called A5500H_A442_000_013_140526_ROW at the time of writing. The new Rom called A5500HV_A442_000_017_140709_ROW, the drivers called LenovoUsbDriver_autorun_1.0.10
4. Time, less than an hour. Maybe half that time.
Apparently 99% of lenovo phones & tablets use the same driver. If yours doesn't I may be able to help but I may not.
(Potential problems:
Windows XP can get confused. You may need to install windows media player 11.)
5. On the PC / Laptop
Unzip the driver file and run it.
6.Unzip the new rom.
7. Have device manager open. You want the tablet to show as MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM port (COM44) or some variant of this. so on Windows 7 or 8 install the divers (without the tablet plugged in).
8. Ensure your tablet is TURNED OFF (seriously this is not a typo) and plug it in. If you the the meditek stuff all well and good. If not you have to be QUICK
9. In the 2 seconds that the device manager says unknown device, right click on it and update driver (pointing the to previously unzipped driver files).
10. Remove the tablet from the laptop / PC
11. Run Flash_tool.exe which is part of the unzipped rom.
12. Click on scatter loading.
13. Go to the folder target_bin and select the file MT6582_scatter_LVP5-3G-ROW-Voice.1.017.01
14. Tick the box called DA-DL with all Checksum (again dont panic if you forget - it just wont work & you have to try again)
15. Click button called Upgrade firmware.
16. Plug in the still powered off tablet. there will be some flashing. If not check the tablet to make sure it's not doing anything, unplug phone, wait a minute and start again.
17. When you see a bright green circle it is complete.
18. You may now unplug your tablet and turn it on.
If you are using the software with another lenovo device, if the battery is removable please do so before plugging into the PC / Laptop.
All ROM & software work was by Steaven on the Lenovo Forum. Google translate, common sense, guesswork and trial and error provided by MSU in order to provide English directions that make sense.

I got stuck at this point. But I know why. Win7 x64 bit system and I can only install signed drivers! None of these drivers have a digital signature.
I shall go dig out an old XP system I have and see how it goes.
Are we absolutely certain that regular windows drivers will not do for this process?
And has anyone rooted one of theses yet? And has anyone worked out how people can move application data (Maps for Navfree I am thinking of) from the internal memory to an SD Card?
Many thanks for your info on this.
Des. . .
If you go into the settings you can select 'allow unsigned drivers' , or go through the device manager and do the driver that way, or just click 'continue anyway' I have w7x64 and this worked fine....
I've not rooted it yet. But I don't need to now I have phone calls.
It lets me install to SD card as in the settings on the lab I selected sd card as my main storage point...there are a few apps however that wont flag up the option.
I hope some of the above helps.
Hi,
I did find This topic in my travels as it seemed that all the drivers in the download you mentioned were for "Lenovo" this or that.
For the moment I have that installed and the device flashes to a point and then seems to stop...
Or maybe I'm impatient..

Hi,
Ahhh... Sneaky tablet..
So, when plugging in the USB I noticed that it would "semi-start and show a power/charge indicator. This would disappear after a minute and all would go dark. So whilst I thought the tablet was off, it wasn't. I thought about this for a moment and then pressed and held the power button. That did turn it off for real.
I also noticed that the ROM updated also became much more agitated and active, with a light green bar at the bottom actually seeming to do the ROM update.
And yes, with the driver I linked to and really powering off once plugged in and then clicking the "Update ROM" button all was updated.
Can I just confirm, does your Lenovo have GPS as well?

That says "What month of the year the third in a row" according to google!
Bing is less cryptic: "What month in year third". So March should be the answer.
I managed to register, eventually. Do make sure to check the two last boxes, one is for Admin emails and the other is to accept the terms and conditions.

Hi Des
I am experiencing the same problem with powering the device completely off. Could you go step by step on how you are doing this? Like, at what stage are you pressing and holding the power button and for how long are you holding it for? When I tried it, the tablet just rebooted.
Thanks.
Norman
Hi,
1) Power off the tablet: no power or USB connected to the device.
2) Fire up the firmware update software on the PC, USB cable in and ready.
3) Select the ROM to update with in the software.
4) Plug in the USB cable to the tablet. At this point you should see the green battery charging image on the tablet.
5) Press power off for a couple of seconds (2-3). Tablet should now be turned off.
6) Fire up the software/ROM update on the PC.
If you see the updater flash through the first stages of the update and then seeming pause when doing the actual ROM update the tablet is on. Press power off again. You should then see the update actually loading onto the tablet. Should take about 5-10 minutes from there.
Luck...

Hi Des!
I follow your list and the tablet is rebooting every time! :crying:
I simply can't turn it off!
Any suggestion?
Thanks, Andrew
Hi,
Power it off first. When powered up press and hold the power button. Select Power off from the menu.
Get the laptop/PC ready with the image, plug the usb cable into the laptop/pc and then the tablet.
You should see the green battery icon on screen showing charge state.
When it has gone, press and hold the power again for about 2 seconds.
Then try the firmware update.
Des. . .
Hi,
Thanks for your help, but when I "press and hold the power again for about 2 second" the tablet is rebooting!
With a shorter power press i can switch the secreen on/off, but a longer press reboot it every time!
My battery icon is a big blue one, not a green one! Maybe i have a different version?
Model number: Lenovo A5500-H
Android: 4.4.2
Build number:A5500H_A442_00_025_141027_ROW
Hm?
Andrew
Hi,
All I can suggest is trial and error. It took me a a couple of goes to get it right.
But when you see that battery icon you know the device is on. Maybe a 1 second press? If I remember, you may feel a slight vibration to indicate that the tablet goes off. Soon as you feel that let go of the power button.
Mine was an A8-50 5500H but is now HV
