[Q] Will this phone work in the uk on 3g

I want to buy this device but it is overpriced here in the uk and t mobile in the usa have it a affordable price. I checked the bands and most uk phones have: 900, 1900 and 2100 for 3g
This one has : 1700 and 2100 for 3g
This concerns me a lot. Can I flash a radio from the original optimistic 2x or something to make it work in the uk? Do you think it will work on 3g out of the box? Some help please.

As you've noted T-Mobile uses non standard frequencies in the states. So, out of the box it's incompatible. As far as flashing an Optimus 2x radio, that appears to be a very bad idea due to file system differences.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read the answer is no.

uk carriers use 2100 primarily and according to gsmarena the bands this phone supports are:
1700 and 2100 for 3g
Wouldn't it still work out of the box even if it supports 2100 band?

Most uk networks use 2100 band as suggested by at&t . The 1700 band is used by t mo for 4g network according to engadget. Any change of opinion now?

"Band I" is 2100 MHz, which is supported by the G2x and is used all over Europe and Asia.

the G2X supports 2100 UMTS (3G) or am I missing something?
The G2x supports 850/900/1800/1900 MHz for 2G/GPRS only, and supports 3G/4G UMTS/HSPA+ bands I (2100) and IV (1700). The G2x does not support AT&T’s 3G bands.

Yes it should work, I'm currently in Europe and my g2x connects to 3G, but of course there is no 4G...I'll be in the UK in a few days in fact

Thanks to all who corrected me...I was under the impression most of Europe used the same 3G bands as AT&T do here. Stupid US centric assumption...I need to get out more....and keep my mouth shut when I'm not absolutely sure!

Both at&t and tmobile phones would be able to get 3g signals outside of the states. I had no problem using my old iphone 3g in Hong Kong,Beijing nor my tmobile blackberry 9700 in Italy.

Yeah...now that's not quite right. Here's the deal:
Most of the world uses 2100 MHz 3G bidirectionally (for both sending and receiving data). This includes England, China, and Hong Kong.
In the U.S. AT&T uses Both 850 & 1900 MHz (depending on the coverage area) bidirectionally. Not compatible with "world standards". The reason you could use you iphone in China is because it has tri-band 3G. Not all AT&T phones support the 2100 MHz band.
T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz for uploads and 2100 MHz for downloading. However, all their current phones have the ability to use the 2100 MHz band bidirectionally when operating overseas.
So to sum it up T-Mobile phones will do 3G overseas, some AT&T Phones will work overseas, but most phones from overseas won't do 3G here.
I hope that makes things a bit more clear; and I apologize again for confusing T-mobile with AT&T in my earlier post.

Using MT4GS outside US

Hi everyone.. I'm planning to get this device and use it outside the US (mainly China and Indonesia).
Will the 3G work in those 2 countries? From the specs sheet, I understand that MT4GS support UMTS 2100. So theoretically, there should be no problem, since China and Indonesia use UMTS 2100 band, but it would be better if someone with personal experience can confirm this.
Anyone here has any experience using MT4GS outside the US?

yep. I am. In the Netherlands. Don't know what band i am though. And i had to unlock the device before i could use it.

I'm in Canada, working fine on the regular GSM bands but I only get 2G speeds when using data...thinking about switching to a UMTS provider.

why do you only get 2G when using data? is it due to the provider or the handset?

Yep i don't have any problems using the 3G connection. Just needed to find the right APN settings.
And according this site (and a couple of others):

Great!! one less thing to worry then so I think there isn't any limitations if this device is used outside the US, as long as the UMTS band is correct.

It's due to the provider, they don't operate on the 2100 band, so I can only use their 2G network.

now I'm confused again

2G it is GSM that can be used anyware in the world that supports GSM however 3G on different carriers uses different bands and different technology, Tmob uses a AWS* some carriers use this for there 3G.... Check if your carrier uses AWS for its 3G.
I know that Canada has WIND and Mobilicity that use AWS 1.7/2.1 for there 3G,.... that said I don't know about other countrys...

which means besides supporting AWS (1700/2100), it also supports the "regular" 2100 UMTS band. The information could be wrong though..
but nldroid has stated that he has no problem using 3G in the Netherlands. And the last time I checked, the Netherlands still use the "regular" 2100 UMTS band (AWS is only available in the states and Canada).

Maybe they mean that if you're T-Mobile USA customer you can only use 2G outside the US with roaming.

LTE in Kuwait

Folks,
Please take a Min and help a me out. Me and wife are currently stationed and residing in Kuwait. Kuwait launched 4G LTE service late last year. The LTE network runs on 1800MHz band 3. the same Band as Telstra Australia, and O2 Germany. i have tired almost everything to get my LTE working, yet no luck. Now, the service run on the Iphone 5 and my LTE USB dongle with no problems.
List of things i tried.
1- flashed the following firmware
a- JB Telstra Australia
b- JB Orange France- LTE ON
c- JB SFR France- LTE ON
d- JB Retail Brazilian
Currently running JB O2 Germany
2- tired the service menu to switch to LTE and that didn't work.
3- Attempted to change the band but unable to select or change.
4- the SIM card work fine on the Iphone, so no sim issue
5- The service is activated

4G isn't really LTE. Since you said it uses the same band as used the other 2 providers you should be able to access LTE by flashing the correct radios or the whole rom & using an LTE sim

Roger/Fido Canada. the device is not branded

This phone don't have the 1800 MHZ band ... only 700/1700 mhz band There are two different phone ! One for north america ! One for the rest of the world ! This is just not a baseband question or rom problem... i have post it on many topic but many people think this is the same phone the Fido/Rogers support LTE in 700/1700 band .. and support only hspa to 21mbits ( no DC-HSPA up to 42mbits like others country ! )

Well. this just sucks big time!!!!! :crying: im glad someone have an answer after all

Just a quick thought. Did you check with your provider for a separate LTE APN?
I would probably be running the Telestra ROM to check this. Make sure your service menu reads "LTE/GSM/WCDMA". You can't select bands, but make sure it is "Automatic (2G/3G/4G)".
Looks like your phone should have the one that looks like "action.wataniya.com" (http://10.wataniya.com/customercare/configure/default_en_gb.aspx). Perhaps, also give them a call to check whether their site is up-to-date and this is the correct APN for their LTE network. Also, check your wife's phone. Is she using the same APN?
Just trying to help you troubleshoot.

Can you provide documentation? Motorola's site seems to suggest there is only one version based on their technical certifications. Which "model" are you using if I may ask. If you're using the "800/1800/2600" version, would you mind giving me the information on the back of your phone so I can dig up some info (FCC ID, Type, and IC ID). This will help look up documents in their technical specifications to confirm two models or more, if they exist.
It seems weird that Motorola would issue a XT926 just for a CDMA and only ONE XT925 number for multiple models (some of which do run CDMA)? It doesn't make sense from a business perspective either. Why produce many different GSM models, when you can produce one and alter the firmware (if for example it doesn't sell in Australia, flash a new ROM, repackage it, and ship it to Canada).
Just my two cents. If you have any of that info, PM me. I'd love to look into it.

Sir- I want to point out that wataniya is not the provider for the LTE in Kuwait. I had I different SIM card when I took the screenshots. In fact it’s a US AT&T sim that roaming on Wataniya Telcom in Kuwait. The LTE provider in question is Zain Kuwait https://www.kw.zain.com/kw/af/home.do?lang=en . plus I have tried the Telestra firmware and used the correct APN for zain; the same APN I used on the iPhone 5 and the USB dongle. To add, I tried using the LTE/GSM/WCDMA, LTE/WCDMA, and LTE alone options and had it at automatic (2G/3G/4G When I set it at only LTE I lose single completely. The other options allow me 3G H+ only.
UserDemos makes a lot of sense! There are only two modles out there. The 926 and 925. I believed that 925 can run on LTE 700 / 800 / 1700 / 1800 / 2600 as advertised by Moto. She I don’t know where the problem is? Anyways the info as showen in the back of the phone are Model XT925 FCCID: IHDT56NG9 TYPE:M0D46 IC ID:109O-T56NG9 . and the BIG CE number is CE0168.

This what happened to me. I'm in Etisalat 4G, so if you want razr hd with enabled 4G lte you should buy it from Australia or UK.
I recommend Clove or Handtec the release date after 2 days.

Were able to figure this mastery out?

In many cases such as Milestone, Milestone 2 etc. there was a Canada / Latin American version and Europe / Asia version with different 3G bands - yet, the phone was called the same for all these versions (MS1 -> A853). Verizon's CDMA Droid (A855) was called differently and other CDMA carriers also had different name (such as MS A854).
This is the same thing, only about 4G bands.

There are 3 version of Razr Hd
XT926 for Verizon
XT925 for Canada, 4G band 700/1700/2100
XT925 for UK & Australia 4G bands 800/1800/2600

We understand what you're saying, but if you don't supply PROOF to back up your claims, then it's going to be hard for anyone to acknowledge you're right.
Which version are you using? Provide us with the info on the bottom, so we can see what it looks like compared to the other version.

No where in Moto website this info is listed. where are you getting this from?

XT926 for Verizon WITH LTE BAND FOR VERIZON ONLY ( BUT WORK IN HSPA WORLDWIDE TOO)
XT925 for Canada (and some others LATAM ) , 4G band 700/AWS ( no dual Channel HSPA up to 21 mbits )
XT925 for EUROPE & Australia 4G bands 800/1800/2600 ( and some LATAM country) ( Have Dual Channel HSPA up TO 42 mbits )
Is just not a baseband problem like many people say ... if the hardware don't support ... the hardware don't support ! Yes some phone have hidden band ! but not the case in the moto hd

if you want DC HSPA because no LTE ... buy the Europe Asia Version ... ( My carrier telus in canada have great DC HSPA coverage and speed are great near 25 mbits in download - i have sold my rogers version for the europeen version ... i never get LTE but my baterry is really good ... and have DC hspa in many many place )
if you want LTE choose the right phone before buying...
and oh yes ... the Motorola phone from U.S ... you can't unlock the bootloader !

The following is the difference between D820 and D821(what i have), so should i go with ATT or Tmobile? i will be staying in LA area.
North America (D820) Nexus 5 model:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

You will not get LTE from either ATT or Tmobile as the Tmobile uses Band 4 AWS for LTE while ATT mostly uses Band 17 700B+C, Band 2 PCS A-F, Band 4 AWS, and some Band 5 CL850.
WCDMA HSPA+ will be fine. T-mobile runs HSPA+21 while ATT runs HSPA+14.4. Both have a day to day prepaid service that you can use to test them out before you choose.

Sorry, I was wrong. Both AT&T and T-Mobile use Band 4 ( and AT&T has band 17) for LTE. I was mistakenly considering only the network frequencies, which was wrong when considering LTE. You won't get LTE on either carrier with the D821, and can only get DC-HSDPA with T-Mobile.

thanks alot all, so there are two options on tmobile for day to day pre pay, will the $3 option work on my international version N5 (D821)? i only see either 2g or 4g in Tmobile? no 3g in tmobile? i am kind of lost on this. (all i need is faster internet on my N5, whats the best option for me to choose?)

T-Mobile's "4G" will include HSPA+ (Upgraded 3g).

I do have the Nexus 5 D821 and I'm going to L.A. for one month.
Can you tell me wich solution did you choose and if it worked well for you ?
Also how much do you have to pay for how much Data ?

I have some friends that went through this when they came to visit the States (also with D821). T-Mobile is your best option. You won't get 4g, but you will get fairly good H+.

Same thing goes for me. Going to LA area for an internship. I guess I will get a new phone then. I've been advised to choose either AT&T or Verizon.

Yes I can confirm it totally works !!!
Not for the 4G of course but for me it's fast enough with the 3G.
But maybe you'll have to make your APN manually like I had to do.
By the way I find a GREAT carrier, ultra.me
For $39 you can have :
+ Illimited talk & text
+ Illimited international calls and text !!!
+ Illimited Internet (not 4G)
+ more !!!

Connectivity
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40
According to website it will work ONLY with EE and 3. I assume that they are all the same whether it be 'foreign' or not.

I'm not so bothered about it not working on O2 because I happen to be on Three. Any ideas about Three LTE connectivity?
What determines the LTE connectivity? Frequencies that the network operates on or what?

According to OnePlus.net both 3 and EE are supported in UK.
