Hide Soft Keys on M8 - One (M8) Themes and Apps

If you're tired of the on screen buttons getting in the way of typing, root your phone with weak sauce and then download gmd hide soft keys from the play store. Here is a video if you want to see it in action.

yeah cool app been using it from day one so good i paid for it

Actually, I'm sick and tired of the bloody keys constantly disappearing when I most need them. We have a huge screen already and I'd rather have a mod that nails the keys in place, so that they never ever disappear. Lol.
Just my 2 cents...

You can still manipulate things like transparency, height, width and colour with the app so its pretty good if you want that too.
Personally hate the speaker chin and button combo, wish they went with the HOX set up. Used to using pie now anyways.
HTC-ONE-M8

Does anyone know how to keep the stock navbar icons with this GMD Auto-Hide app? I like the app but don't like the buttons it uses, even when you choose the "HTC" option under themes. They just look ugly compared to the normal stock navbar icons.

this is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for posting this. Now I can utilize ALL of the screen.

Personally I always need the buttons when they are gone for a second with GMD

Thank you for that great hint.
This App works like a charm !

Install LMT Pie (XDA Download) and setup for BACK/HOME/RECENTS/MENU
Change build prop to remove software keys
Profit

You all realize this is "immersive mode" in android. The buttons only hide when they aren't needed. Simply swipe where the NAV bar would be and the icons come back.

Not to thread jack... but I'm currently using Ultimate Dynamic Nav bar (see this thread on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198).
I find it more flexable (you can set your own keys, have up to 7, multiple themes, multiple behaviors).
Best feature? I have a button dedicated for screen off, and when you long press it, it opens up APM. I also have a menu button which launches volume control upon long press.
An alternative that works on the M8.
EDIT:
Whoops wrong Screenshot, please see the new one.

Is it possible to permanently cut down the height of the stock navbar by half?

From what I can tell.. no there isn't. However, using any of these custom applications, you can adjust the height of the nav bars.

Brilliant find. This is exactly what I was looking for! Cheers!
Edit: Only thing it doesn't seem to work in is the camera. Cant see to call up the buttons, but all you have to do is go into the gallery and then it will work there.

I just checked this and it works for me
In the options menu, you need to select "Keep trigger at panels side" as well as "Keep panel on right". Then you can swipe on the right when using the camera and it will work.
It is a bit confusing, but if you don't have those options selected, when in the Camera you need to swipe from the button to open the buttons.

I wonder if the action bar settings in Dimensions Editor don't work in some apps because those apps have a set height for the action bar.

Like this, seems to work well. Would be better if it could be set on a per app basis, to keep them visible when running certain apps.

All of you do realize that 4.4.2 has "Immersive Mode" that lets you hide the Status Bar and/or the Nav Bar until they're needed, right??
ALL of these special NavBar apps and whatnot are redundant.

Yup. 10.1 inches of delicious screen goodness isn't enough for you? This transformer is pimping! Physical home button is for chumps!

I own one, and would like a couple more physical buttons(and ideally an optical trackpoint too like the newer phones).
The buttons to stop there being a constant menu bar which would let applications like remote desktop go REALLY fullscreen, and the trackpad for precise text selection.
Not major issues, but I think dropping the buttons is actually a bit Apple-esque - going for form over function (e.g. an Ipod would be easier to operate with a separate volume control, but that would make it less "clean").
I think we're a bit too quick to fling around accusations of "Apple zealot" or "Android fanatic" when people voice simple preferences...
Yup you nailed it, the home button used to be on the prototypes/show display models but it got taken off for the release versions.

They should add a single hardware button for hiding and showing the button bar.

That is a nice idea, but what will be even better is something like the Quick Controls in the web browser!!!
Or something like the AutoHide option of the M$ Windows taskbar.

[Q] Swipe to launch?

On iOS, I can swipe the clock on the statusbar which I set to automatically open the App Switcher.
I've been trying AutomateIT, Tasker, and a few other Status bar tweaks but I haven't been able to find an app that will do one simple thing - when I swipe/tap/double-tap the clock or somewhere on the status bar, it should open the "Recent Apps" dialog (so I don't have to press that flimsy button)
Can anyone recommend an app, or how to do it in Tasker?
PS: I've been trying Tasker all day, and this is the last thing I need it to do, but no joy!
What phone do you have ?
By "App Switcher" do you mean the Recent Apps function that brings up apps still in memory ?

Ah yes, sorry. That is what I meant.
I have a Galaxy S3, rooted with Resurrection Remix 3.1.4 .
Actually I was able to achieve what I wanted with GMD Gesture Control (best 6$ ever spent!). So a different question now, is there a way to get it to monitor for gestures on the lockscreen? Prior to me swiping or doing my pattern..
Thanks for your help!
You can also access recent apps with a long press to he home button by default. With a launcher, you can come figure it to vice-versa.
I think several launchers also give you various new icons and swipe features.
Lock screen? I don't know. I might look into something like Widget Locker, maybe.

I'll look into Widget Locker. I know you can do it with the home button, but mine is almost on it's deathbed and I want to minimise pressing it until I can find a way to fix it or the Nexus 4 becomes more freely available lol

[REQ] Pie Control style soft keys?

Does anyone know if there's a way to get the soft keys to be hidden and pop up when you for example swipe up from the bottom of your screen kind of like the Pie Controls?
That would be amazing.

Well you can get Pie controls (slightly different from PA... less features but more customizable) by downloading LMT. It's a sweet app that is incredibly stable. That said, you need to find another way to hid your softkeys (like editing your framework-res) unless you want to have softkeys and pie at the same time.

Yes but I mean like a theme for LMT that makes the keys flat to the bottom instead of Pie style

LG G2 Navbar Customization Xposed Module

Just wanted to share with everyone that in my desperate attempts to find a way to modify the Stock Navbar I tried out the LG Navbar Xposed module and it works perfect! No 4 or 5 button but it has plenty of buttons to choose for the three available including long press customization for each one. Works perfect transparency stays intact as well as modifications from other modules (gravitybox navbar height). The only thing I've noticed is that the 3 dot button on the navbar will still pop up on apps requiring it. I just used softkeyz and downloaded the invisible buttons from the user gallery so its still there but I don't have to look at it.

You should have just used Gravity Box xposed module. Among every other tweak available to you in GB, there is also a section for modifying NavBar. I shrunk mine down because I don't think it needs to be that big, added always on menu button, and then turned on Immersive Mode (which is really awesome, I prefer it to pie and it's still basically stock android, both function and form wise).
I use the gravitybox module but can't stand not having a dedicated menu button. I know there is the always on option in gravity box but I am left handed and can't stand stretching over to reach it. Plus this has long press options. I find it a lot nicer having the menu button with long press for recents. Just letting people know of more options. As someone who normally uses cyanogenmod and AOKP and adds a menu button immediately I found this perfect for me.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
Oh nice, didn't realize there were that many more options available, going to have to check it out and maybe use GB for everything else but NavBar. Thanks.
Maybe I'm missing something, but when i follow the link to the thread, it then takes me to the playstore, where it says its incompatible with my device.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I got it installed but it's very limited in scope unless you unlock the premium version. I'll stick with GravityBox.
I got GravityBox to work for me in remapping the useless Recent Apps to the Menu button and I just have to think that the icon for Recent Apps is the menu. The only way I found.. You have to map hardware buttons to change this. You can also add Kill App to long press on the Back button.

Why people disable NavBar?

Any reasons why people use mods/hacks to disable the navbar permanently? Samsung offers the option to do so, but why u have to disable it permanently?
Gestures navigation is not that smooth & u have to use an app.
Is there any benefits or something I'm missing?

Lol That's pretty funny tbh:laugh:
You have this big beautiful touch screen, why do I want to take up space on the screen (or have it appear/disappear) every time I want to navigate or go to the home screen? I use Gesture Control so that I just have to swipe left/right/up at the bottom and never have to see it...
Looks better and is really cool to have the whole screen.... navigation gestures works pretty well.
It's quite simple really, you get more screen real estate and you don't need to look at the ugly navbar.

Xda gestures works great especially the split pill giving additional swipes. I have some very minor delays with it though, but I can live with it. OnePlus gestures is the best so far, but it's paid.
I tried out XDA's Navigation Gestures (paid version) but find Samsung's One Hand Operation+ more enjoyable.
From the edge screen I simply swipe left to go back, to open recents I swipe up diagonally from the same place and to go home I just press the home button.
