headphone jack shorting out??? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so not sure if it is a water issue or what, i took the phone in the shower this morning, had my music player going, and hell it is supposed to be water resistant right? well a few hours later i noticed that the "headphones connected" icon was on and my music player was going (no sound obviously since it thinks headphones are connected) it keeps coming back on and every time it does it thinks headphones are connected and starts to run my music player..... could this be a water issue, not thinking so, we all saw videos of these things in a pool, maybe software related?

Anyone tested the water resistance, did it work fine after that or did you have any issues? The problem seems to have corrected it self now, I hope, just don't know if it was from the water or something else

haven't tested water resistance personally but did you see this thread ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716266 ?
EDIT: NVM i see that you posted in there

Yeah, I just saw that too, very disappointing, that headphone jack issue is a BIG problem, battery drain and functionality hit hard

Well, that wraps up my debate on whether or not to test the water-resistance feature....

yeah, i mean it is nice that it is waterresistant, incase you spill something on it, but it thinking you have headphones plugged in, turning on the mp3 player, and not letting me use the speaker was a bit of a buzz kill

Captivate Headphone Jack problem!!!

So I don't know if it's my ROM, my phone, or what, but I've tried 3 pairs of earphones, and sound only comes out of the left earbud. When I push down on the headphone jack I can sometimes get it to play faintly through both, but usually not. I'm putting the earbuds in all the way, they just don't seem to function. I treat my phone very well, and this really sucks, since I bought it for the music player mainly. Do you guys think AT&T will replace it? (After returning to stock, of course) or am I out of luck? Also, the water damage indicator shows no signs of water damage, and the phone itself looks great, since I usually keep it in a silicone case. I'd really appreciate any insight into this problem. =\
Thanks in advance.
**also, I'm running the newest version of Darkyy's Raw steel.
Silly question: Have you checked inside the headphone port for lint?
This happen to me with a phone once. Took me 2 weeks to figure it out. Since my phone was in my pocket all the time I had apparently gotten some lint in the port and packed it in tightly when I next tried to plug in some headphones.

Yep... Still nothing I notice that when I push down on the headphones farther than they "stick" I can get sound to play through both earbuds... huh...
Have you tried the earbuds that came with the phone?
The phone has a one year warranty, so if something is wrong they will replace it. But why mention the water sensor? Did it get wet at some point?
Of course AT&T will return it, if you bought it from them...?
OK guys, just an update....
So I called AT&T and put on my innocent, "what can haz root?" persona, and after a quick runthrough with a CS rep ("What's a factory data reset?") they issued me a refurb captivate under warranty. Just so everyone knows, this IS covered by the warranty, assuming you didn't do any physical damage to the phone.
As for the headphones, the left earbud on the stock ones went out after 4 months. They were freaking nice while they worked, though. =\
Thank you all for your suggestions and input.
I am now experiencing this issue for the second time. The first time it was under warranty so I just sent it off but now it's been over a year and I don't think they'll fix it.
For me it seems like my earbuds are what's causing it. They're really nice Shure brand earbuds with a pin for an in-line mic. I find that when I use them in certain jacks I have to pull the plug out a little bit to have them line up correctly without the sound getting super distorted. I think they're knocking something out of place.
However, since the earphone jack has been shot the second time I have a larger problem, the ear speaker is no longer working. Seemed to happen at the exact same time.
Anyways, I think I might get a OneX after this summer so I'm willing to crack this thing open. Any ideas as to what could be the issue?

Dropped my G2x out of the car, could I exchange it?

It has a small dent on the top right hand corner along the metal. I'm thinking of trying to exchange it by saying the phone freezes a lot and reboots, you think it would work? I never drop my phones so I feel dumb for dropping such a high powered beast.
you can just say gps isn't working or it freezes a lot
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I'm thinking about doing that, does T-Mobile have any rules against damages though?

If you have insurance then you can exchange it as long as it's not lost or stolen. For minor damages, I guess it really depends on the store manager.

If it's a little dent I dont think they will say anything. If the screen was cracked or if it was cracked anywhere then they might say something
I always use this and it gets me a replacement everytime without having to painfully sit through their troubleshooting guides: "When I plug headphones into the headphone jack the sound is all staticy and has really bad interference. It sounds like a bad connection between the headphone jack to the board. I tried the same headphones in another phone/mp3 player and they were fine, I tried different headphones in the phone and got the same results..tried those headphones in a different player and they were fine. The speaker sound is fine and quality is good, it's only when headphones are plugged in. I realy think the port isnt connecting to the circiut board right. "
they put you on hold while they research it and find out there is no troublshooting and it's not software related and everything points to it being hardware.. bam replacement processed and dont have to sit there while they read off all the troubleshooting tips for you to do before they process the replacement

Good idea. I have my own tall tales but I like this one.
Did you buy it online or at a store? As long as the screen isn't broken you should be fine to return it.
I work at a retail store and we will exchange anything that doesn't have a cracked screen or water damage. Just don't make it sound obvious you want to swap it out because you dropped it.

[Q] is my transformer speaker wire loose?

i found similar threads and posts but none with this specific problem. i have a b90 from bb, 12/11/11. yesterday out of no where, i lost sound. long story short after reboots and wipes, realized when i rotate or ecspecially shake my tf101, my speaker cut on, then off. when i press hard on the bezel in the middle, they come on briefly. sometimes they stay on.
any insight or answers to solve this so i dont have to do the rma process would be greatly appreciated. after purchase from bb for 299 ( cheaper build to reduce price maybe) i became an asus fan. now, i am really dissapointed in quality since other then this, my tablet is physically flawless and hasnt been dropped or damaged.
edit: both speakers do work when they decide to come on, and heaphones work. thnx in advance
I have cut out and removed my right speaker because it was dead, waiting on an order from asusparts.eu for a replacement speaker
It wasn't a loose wire, it was the connection to the actual cone that was bad, pressing in the middle of the speaker brought it to life for the first time since I bought it, but nothing I could do to fix it, they are more or less sealed and too tiny to fix
so you believe its the speakers? they both seem to work, they just aren't outputting sound until I shake the tablet, push, or sometimes face down they work
Why not just rma it?

Couldn't say for sure, but it sounds like something you could fix yourself if shaking it brings it back on, if you don't mind losing warrantly opening it, but bear in mind, my speaker replacement has already taken 2 weeks and they are not expecting parts until the end of february, so RMA might be quicker, depends if you can put up being without it for a while
honestly i dont want to be without my tf. silly huh. its weird though i just discovered that like i mentioned, headphones work fine, however after i unplug the headphones the speakers immedfiately output sound and continue to do so until i change to another app. e.g.- while watching netflix, then back out and open a game with sound, it doesnt output untilni plug and unplug headphones. this seems to be the best way to get speakers to play.
they donteven seem to cut out with movement afterbthe headphones are unplugged. only when exiting out of current app, then attemptingbtonopen a new one. what is the issuer here?
im lost ast this point. rma aside, this has me curious now
id probally be willing to do it myself, if i knew exactly what i was replacing or repairing or rigging. i purchased a kit with the neccesary t5 torx, and phillips to remove bezel.
how tight should the screws be on the bottom of the tf. i dont want to overtighten. got some petty hope that tightening the screws will help. more sillyness im sure.....
this stinks though cvuz this just happened. you know? thnx in advance.
also lookimg at bluetooth speaker as an alternative
Speakers working after you remove the headphones but stopping again once you launch another app ?
You tried a factory reset in-case its a software / firmware bug ?
Screws just need nipping up, not tightened too much or you`ll either thread the holes or snap the head of the screw
Just RMA it, man.

Audio Jack Problem?

My Z3 has developed a problem this week where only the left earpiece of any of my earphones will work (I know it's definitely not the earphones as they work fine in other devices). Sometimes if I twist the earphone cable near its base the right earphone will momentarily work so I'm hoping my phone isn't completely buggered. I've tried blowing air into it, using a paperclip and tooth pick but haven't managed to get out any substantial lint and although it's hard to tell I can't see anything sizable down there. Any possible fixes out there at all?
Also, if worst comes to worst and I need to send it to Sony, is it likely they'd send me a replacement prior to me having to send mine off? Never had to send off a phone for repair before so not sure how it works and don't particularly want to be left phoneless phoneless :crying:
Have you tried putting water down there to see if anything comes out? Just a suggestion mind.
I wish the port had a stopper of some sort. The way they are designed is prone for failure. I can't wait till the Magzet gets smaller. It will make the 3.5 jack bulletproof basically.

I'll give this a shot tonight, phone is waterproof so can't hurt I guess. Haven't got any other ideas :crying:

Water damaged

Anyone end up dropping there phone in water because it just happened to me, landed with the bottom quarter Making a good dunk in the toilet. Trying to find a teardown to see what I can do about fixing it.
Still works but my usb port is flaky about connecting but seems to charge while powered down. The speaker no longer works have yet to test the ear piece. Used the voice recorder to test the microphone and it works but it's nothing but static. Headphones work and records fine. Late right now so no one to call to test that yet.
What's the process for buying a logic board with a bad imei to swap out with my board, the bad esn boards I'm finding for sell are about 30 bucks cheaper then good ones like here.
