Got this phone as a replacement for my broken beaten up Galaxy s3.
Loving it so far. Hope someone gets a easier rooting for the D838 by the time i'm ready to root

hi,
Am i missing something here or this phone does not really have any custom roms?

We don't have a custom recovery as yet and no sign of any developer support. I am very surprised at the lack of adoption of this device as I find it the best that I have ever owned and that is many. I'm not really bothered about a custom rom but would like to have the ability to remove the nav bar on my own selected apps like I could on my lg g2 which is virtually the same device but smaller.

hello my Indian brothers,
will there be any kind of development on this device (d838)?
OR what do you think is better phone,g2 or g pro 2? (with respect to roms, development ec.)
coz m gonna buy this phone otherwise g2

Just buy it
I'd still buy this phone over G2. There are enough apps in the playstore now to change each and every aspect of the phone. I do not see the need of a custom rom. It has every feature I can think of and can do every thing I'd want to do with a phone. I got a D838 about 4 days back. I have rooted it, customised it and will be receiving a 64GB microSD today. I don't think there is anything more I can ask for. And ROM development is more of a need when you arent satisfied with the software thephone maker provides with. I am one satisfied customer. And most importantly, I get over 24 hours of battery life with ease. That is about 7 hours of screen time, 1 hour of call, with 3G on for the entire day and Location services activated. And this is for sure is a BIG BIG deal for me.

agree with manas... its actually a very good phone... smooth like butter... my home screen

Did you try changing it in under Settings > Sound > Notification? Sorry I am finding it hard to figure out since I use a postpaid connection and the service provider doesnt push such notifications.

Presenting the new Xperia S
The Sony press conference has just finished and Sir Howard Stringer and Kaz Hirai of Sony have shared with us not only the new gadgets Sony is presenting at the 2012 International CES, but also announced the new Xperia™ S, the first smartphone from the new Xperia™ NXT series- the next generation smartphones from Sony*.
The new Xperia™ S is an Android smartphone that combines an impressive viewing experience through the high resolution 4.3 inch display with Mobile BRAVIA engine, a 12 MP camera that takes pictures in just 1.5 seconds from standby, and an amazing Sony HD experience. Xperia™ S also has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor for a faster performance. Watching HD clips and movies is really a great experience on this phone. And I can’t wait to try out HD games on it! Xperia™ S also enables an easy connectivity experience with multiple screens, so that you can access, share and enjoy content on the screen that suits the situation: TV, smartphone, laptop or tablet. We have talked about the increased connectivity between different screens before, and with Xperia™ S we will see more about the possibilities of sharing and accessing content easily, including NFC (near field communication), as Xperia™ S is NFC enabled.
Also, Xperia™ S will be able to access easily to the entertainment content from Sony Entertainment Network, such as Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited (in the countries where the services are available). You can check if your country already has the services here.
Here is an overview of the key features for Xperia™ S:
4.3 inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720), as well as front (720p) and back (1080p) cameras for HD recording.
1.5GHz dual-core processor for fast browsing and content download, which can be stored on the internal 32GB flash storage.
12MP back camera with Sony Exmor R™ for mobile along with Fastest Capture to take shots in just 1.5 seconds directly from standby mode. Front-facing camera with 1.3 MP.
NFC (Near Field Communications) enabled to access growing range of NFC applications and services as well as Xperia SmartTags.
With HD sharing through DLNA, HDMI and using BRAVIA Sync for controlling your Xperia S with your TV remote control when connected to the TV, Xperia™ S delivers a full HD experience on TV.
PlayStation™ Certified, that guarantees a high quality smartphone gaming experience and access to the PlayStation® Store.
Click to collapse
Also, the first things that I really liked about the Xperia™ S (apart from the great features we have already presented), from a first view, are the new design and the UI. Xperia™ S is the first smartphone that showcases a new design approach referred as “Iconic Identity”. You will be able to see this new design throughout the Xperia™ NXT series, and it creates a simple look that is instantly recognizable.
One of the main elements of the new design is the transparent element at the base of the phone. It creates an iconic silhouette, emphasizing the display, and also provides illumination effects and integrates the antenna components.
I have always loved is the User Interface from our phones. And for the Xperia™ NXT series, I think I will keep on liking it! The user Interface has been redesigned to match the minimalistic design of the hardware. The home screen has a new colorful flow background making full usage of HD Reality Display and dual-core processing power.
Xperia™ S will be available to consumers globally from the first quarter 2012. Launching on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread) Xperia™ S will be upgraded to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter 2012.
If you want more information about Xperia™ S, check out the press release here. And don’t miss more information about this launch, and all what is happening in the 2012 International CES this week on this blog! We have great things in store!

I didn't like the side headphone jack on the arc but it's not so bad with the Sony Ericsson headphones the plug isn't that big.

GT-P6201 = GT-P6200? (Plus N vs. Plus)

Hi all
I have bought a GT-P6201 - a Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 7.0 Plus N (WiFi / 3G) 16GB and I have some questions:
1. Is this device the "same" (as far as I know only the speakers are different, but I´m not sure...) like the normal Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 7.0 Plus (WiFi / 3G), the GT-P6200?
2. If yes, can I use the custom ROM´s and ClockworkMod Recovery for the GT-P6200?
3. Are there any XDA users out there having the same device? So that we can share "our" experience, questions, problems and solutions?
Thanks.

1) Should be YES
2) There's not a REAL custom ROM for our P6200 I'm about to realize one as soon as I have enough free time. You should be able to flash CWM and Root your device without any issue
3) As I've seen 'till now you're the only one who own this version of Tab Plus, hope someone else can share your experiences
'Cuz of that, I'd like to ask you if you can share some photos of your device maybe in its differences (speakers)

It should arrive on 04.04.2012. Is the P6211 the same as the P6210? The Hardware is the same.
When it arrive I'll try to root it and flash CWM. I tell you if it works.

There should be a mistake somewhere between the question and the answer...
I don't have an indepth german language knowledge, but when I see UMTS I guess that means 3G and not Wifi only !!!
We can find even cheaper but just to have an idea about the product and the specification (in german that time, but google translate should help) :
http://www.amazon.de/Samsung-Touchs...DA6U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335349342&sr=8-1
I'm thinking about buying one but I have 2 questions :
1) Is it possible to place a phone call with this Samsung Honeycomb just as with P1000 ??? ^^
2) What custom ROM can we expect to replace this Honeycomb ???
I really love my P1000, but if can have the same formfactor much lighter in the pocket, with dual core and 1 GB RAM with the same quality as with P1000, why not...
Anyone can compare the functionalities between Samsung Gingerbread and Samsung Honeycomb, specially for multimedia and bluetooth support ?
I already saw some missed with galaxy Tab 8.9" and 10.1" as multimedia and bluetooth were not as good as with GT P1000...

You are right, i made a mistake.
P6200 = P6201 3G
P6210 = P6211 WiFi
The P6201/P6211 is the German version. Samsung had to change the appearance because Apple complained that it look like the iPad.
To your questions:
1) Yes you can make phone calls on the P6200 3G version!
2) There is only CM9 as custom ROM, but it is in Development, because it has many bugs.
For me Honycomb is very smooth and stable and Samsung has confirmed that ICS will come to our Device soon. About bluetooth I can not say much because I haven't used it yet.
Stock videoplayer on the 6200 has pretty limited codec support - but with mx videoplayer or moboplayer, I haven't found anything it can't play - most using hardware acceleration aswell. I have the hdmi dock and output to a 50" hdtv and it's every bit as good as my archos - and that's saying something as archos are unbeatable for multimedia support.
As far as I can see, there are few differences to justify the massive price difference between the 7.0 and the 7.7 - slighty more powerful cpu and a little more screen real eastate but no IR blaster. I thought long and hard about which one, I reckon for the money the 7.0 plus 3G is the one to get, it's even really good as a phone, I thought I might make the odd call on it but have ended up using it more than my arc s
i`ve searching around but still don`t find where the custom rom link is...can anyone paste me some link of it..
my device is P6200DXKK5 for baseband version
and 2.6.36-P6200DXKL3-CL608366 [email protected] #3 for kernel version

Your thoughts??
The Neo N003 looks great. I've been looking at it for a few weeks now.
I especially like that it's supposed to be the first mtk6589 phone to get usb otg and hdmi.
I'd still probably wait for the 2GB premium version.
Basically for the mtk6589 1080p 2GB phones I really only like 2 of them. The iOcean X7 Premium and the Neo N003.
I just got a iNew i2000 and have been messing around with it. It's very nice, but it's only 720p.
These companies like to make customers hot and then delay the release to another week then to another month. The release will be the end of april now.
I hate the look of the Neo N003, it looks so common. But specs are the best bang for the bucks.
I still prefer the iocean X7, but also the premium version.
Will be interesting to read what users think of it when it finally comes out.
Good choice ha!

The Neo N003 seems to be the most cost effective one out of the Android phones coming from China with similar specs based on rumours so far. My only issue is the lack of bands these phones cover. 2G will be no problem but 3G is weak and no LTE.
I'll be buying one of this (and in a joint purchase we'll get about 500 of this phone, both youth or premium) directly from NEO's factory. It looks like they extended the 3G bands as it now supports 850/900MHz band on 3G. You can see almost full specs here, many of them confirmed directly talking with NEO:
http://www.htcmania.com/showpost.php?p=8082128&postcount=1
Photos also look good:
Right now there are 350 people in the list (it's a joint purchase with 2 forums, HTCMania and Forocoches), 200 on HTCMania list (which hasn't been updated since some time) and about 150 in forocoches one.

lightake is excellent. there is a coupon thread here as well for the neo n003. in my opinion, not worth an extra $90 or so for the ultimate. the standard should suit 99.9% of users just fine.

i can't see the advantage of having 2GB ram over 1GB if in ANDROID we have ZRAM (like virtual memory in windows) and the games/apps are running fine on 512mb RAM...
BTW, any news about this phone? still presale?
Some reviews say iOcean X7 Youth version has lower display specs, most say it's the same. Camera is 13mp in full version but 8mp in Youth version.

What's the neo company's name and their official website?
And
If android5 be released, anyone update this phone?!!!
At end, is any guidance to root and flash custom rom or anything?
----------
Sorry for my bad english.
Tanks
NEO company name is NEO, isn't it?
Website: http://www.neomobile.com.cn/
Android 5? well, next one looks like it will be Android 4.3, but we don't know if it will be updated.
There are already root guides for MT6589 phones, and this one doesn't look like it will be any harder. About custom roms, in HTCMania we are buying about 3000 phones so, yeah, maybe there will be roms.

THL W200S MTK6592W Octa Core 1.7GHz 5 inch 1GB 32GB

I bought an eight-core phone last year, my wife is very envious, so i bought this phone for $200 delivered. My wife wanted a simple smartphone to take pictures and messaging so I thought this budget phone will do.
Mod edit... sales, links to sale sites or discussion of selling is not what XDA is here for. Use swappa or nothing!

If you do buy it check 2 things:
First make sure the device can take photos at night with the flash on
And also check if this device has the capacitive buttons illuminated normally.
I've got the Thl w200 and that's what's wrong with mine.

This is not the end of the list. Most likely, the compass will be broken too, and the camera preview frame rate will be very low. I bought t100s and it has all the issues w200 has, they seem to be present on all thl phones (except illuminated buttons). On top of that, bt is broken when navigation is on. I have very little hope that any of this will ever be fixed.
I have bought 4 thl w200 and they all can take pictures by night with or without flash, never had a problem with that, and about the low light in buttons I don't like it but you get easily used to it
I wish all chinese phones had all the problems thl w200 has ...
and about the new model, it is great to me, I miss only a better camera like the one they have used for the T200C
w200s uses a new soc with new mediatek software, everything is new, they get from the w200 the same chasis, but everything else is new, so I don't expect w200 problems here, but I do expect some new from the new soc, same as with any other mtk6582w phone, don´t get misled by the pictures, they all come from the old model, for instance w200s has one normal sim and one mini slot, but in the pictures you see the old one

Have you tried it? How?
We'll be getting many pictures up within the next couple days.
Here's our unboxing.
So far the W200S is proving to be an excellent choice. Software very stable. Touchscreen accurate and not overly sensitive like the ZP980+. Speaker is very loud. We'll be getting a full review up within the next couple days.
On screen battery life of 5 hours with 25% left.:good: with WiFi on and active for 11.5 hours (since taken off charge). We were hoping for at least 5, but it's exceeded our expectations and now shooting for 6 hours on screen. Battery is 2000mA. Not 1800 as advertised by many shops.
Ended up with 6.5 hours on-screen. Very good

Has anyone factory reset this phone? I tried it and the phone now no longer boots?

Heard of this phone SMARTISAN Nut Pro 2? Anyone has it? Want to buy it from China

Smartisan is one of the few Chinese manufacturers that pays serious attention to its design. The design of Nut pro 2 is quite stunning. More importantly, the specs is quite decent, 4+64, 6+64, 6+128 and 6+256, and i personally will like to go for the 6+128 version、5.99 Inch、Qualcomm Snapdragon 660、Face ID Recognition、USB Type C&OTG&Bluetooth 5.0
What do you guys think?

Yes, the other day i ask one Chinese online retailer if they can install the google play for us before shipping, they said yes, of course. Here is their selling the 6gb+128gb version: https://www.coolicool.com/smartisan-u3-pro-nut-pro-2-6gb-ram-128gb-rom-qualcomm-snapdragon-660-22ghz-octa-core-599-inch-corn-g-47748
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I own it.
Hi guys, I own and love everything about this phone. The design is fantastic, camera is great, screen is superb and the battery life is brilliant etc... There are a few work arounds I'm still having to get used to coming from an iphone, but there really are very few drawbacks.
The few niggly things (being based in the UK) are:
- I can't use Android pay as it doesn't pass Android safety net. Looking online this seems to be true of a lot of Chinese phones and all of Smartisans. This one is a biggie to me.
- All 4 app doesn't work on the phone
- Some of the unread badges (WhatsApp for example) don't show up on the stock OS. I believe this is an Android thing though? Same for no easy way to copy and paste images...
- it says 3G on the network even when you're getting 4G signal and speeds (I tested them using speed test).
Other than these though I couldn't be happier. Especially for the money. The phone really is beautiful, more so than I was expecting.

Are you still happy with this device? Seems to offer most bang for the buck of all chinese upper midrange phones. Do you have any major problem with notifications, whatsapp for instance?
Google play market is installed directly without any messing around, but were you able to find a way to root it?

Hi there, I’m using this phone for about 6 weeks now and I’m happy with it too.
For the money it’s a great device, looking beautifully. The 128/6GB variant is very smooth in all situations.
It’s easy to install Google from the Smartisan store, search for gugi app and afterwards you’ll find Play Services an Play Store working.
Screen and battery life are great, 4g is displayed now (after update) when receiving 4g signal. Before it always said 3g.
Sound quality is average, the camera is not bad but I expected a bit more from it (less pronounced colors, a little less contrast and less noise in some occasions). It seems the hardware of the camera is good enough, it just needs further tweaking in my opinion (i am a camera nerd, owning Vivo Xshot before).
I received already 4 updates, mainly for tweaking and stability but I never encountered a crash so far.
Idea Pills, Big Bang are nice to haves, software features are good but some are not so easy to find out. As are the settings for Google apps.
Notifications of WhatsApp is working for me, however you do need to change settings in the app manager otherwise Messenger and WhatsApp for instance freeze at 5 minutes after closing the app (for battery savings). Therefor it’s important to get settings right.
All in all I think for the money it’s a good buy.
I just received this phone with a "global rom" but now it will not update. Does anyone know where I can find the stock ROM and the update procedure. Thanks in advance

I've recieved my Smartisan Nut Pro 2 Smartphone this week! I was so impressed. This is really one of the best looking (and performing) Smartphones.
But as @reefmonger I have the same problem with the fist OTA update I recieved.
It will download, but when installing it just comes back with: Error --> Press Volume UP + Power button to return...
I'm looking for a way / file to install the update manual. It's about Version 4.1.6. I'm now running V4.0.4.
Hope anyone has got an idea or better: the solution

I am thinking this problem is created by Gearbest customizing the stock smartisan ROM. See 5:28 point of this video

Hi there,
I think it is Gearbest ROM related.
Mine is from Joybuy with original ROM and so far I received 4 successful updates.
Even with Play Store installed from Smartisan market.

Thnx All.
I Already discovered it is ROM/ version related.
I wanted to update manual to the new version and then the bootloader said it was a wrong version ...
I should be xxxxxxx (forgot the name) and I have the xxxxxxx.hawai version ...
So a difference in Chinese / Global / international version ??
I'll take a look at the youtube film a poster added earlier ...

I just ordered the 6GB/64GB version which apparently has the new rom with OTA support. It arrives on Wednesday. I really love how customisation the OS is! Just a shame we can't have Android Pay working in the UK!
What are they doing now?

I have used thier flagsship for 2016 before (Smartisan M1L for 1 year), and now I am using this Nut Pro 2 and have been using it for about 3 months;
There are some points I think you need and others need to know:
1) Smartisan does not upgrade Android version. so if your phone released with Android 7.1.1, it will stick with forever; but they update the security patches after few of monthes ( 4-12 months )
so don't expect big updates, the maximum update size you will get is 400GB
2) The old phones get the new features (related to softwaare) that packeged in the newest phones, no matter what version of Android is.
3) The Nut Pro 2's camera is very sensitive, mine' camera glass got wrekt but it is still functioning and no any effect to the quality
4) Updates changelog always in chinese, but you can translate it using Big Bang feature.
5) others around you can hear the voice of the caller or the one you are talking to with vie Nut Pro 2.
6) the company is going to release another new phone in April, you can check thier official forums http://bbs.smartisan.com/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=182
I hope it is flagship, I will buy it and sell my Nut Pro 2 then
7} there is upcoming major update ( Software version 4.5.0 and size will not be higher than 400GB unless you are on very old ROM) - mine is now on version 4.1.7.1 (the latest version for now)
the chinese people are testing the beta now.
8) you can delete 90% of the bloatware and some of main apps such as the primitive calculator.
9) You cannot root the smartisan phones, at least not the new phones.

I notice you can flash the official rom with a flash cable. I ordered one which has arrive. Zi Reviews has posted a how to on his youtube.
Ok I flashed the official software using a deepflash cable. I am now on the 4.1.7.1 build which is awesome. Was really easy to do I don't like the shop rom at all!
