[Q] Game crash - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there!
My bro bought the phone and he plays Blood Brothers.
He reported that from time to time the game freezes and after 40 secs or so it gets back.
Besides that, the phone is very quick, excelente image, fast 3g and wifi, etc.
Does anyone else experienced something similar? Any thoughts? Overheating on Adreno 305?
Thanks!

Afaik Moto G has no overheating complaints by this time...
The SoC used is A7 and max limit of chip is 1.7GHz but moto used 1.2ghz for better battery and coool performence.

I don't know much about phone chips but does the chip of Moto G has Max 1.7 GHz but is clocked to 1.2Ghz so is it possipble to overclock it to 1.7GHz ? Just curiosity

[Q] phone is getting hot.. how much heat it can handle??

recently i have bought yu yureka bu micromax
- 1.5.GHz Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 Octa Core Processor / Adreno 405 GPU @ 550 MHz
- 2 GB RAM
- 5.5 Inch HD IPS Touchscreen Display
- Dual SIM Support
- 13MP Primary Camera With LED Flash
- 5 MP Front Camera
- 4G LTE
- 2500 MAh Battery.
- Customizable Cyanogen 11 OS
the phone been heating alot.. the CPU temperature is normally 45C and it raises as we use.. when gaming it goes between 60-65 C and when i run benchmark tools or play heavy games over an hour the temperature goes above 70C the top i observed is 77C..
isnt a processor supposed to shut off at 70C? as for safety reasons till it cools down?? how much this snapdragon 615 processor can get the most? will it burn or burn other internals?? please some1 clarify my doubts! i even noticed many people are facing the same kind of issues with samsung and moto phones which runs on octa core processors.. is it a hardware related issue or a software issue???

No It will not burn any material. It is not the PC Processor, but it seems that your device heats a lot, may be it is a manufacturing defect. Try asking others with the same phone. And don't overheat your phone, dont play games for hours and hours
Hit thanks if helped

i dont play games that long.. with this device its hard to play for more than an hour.. 90% of the ppl having this device facing the same issue but most of them seems to be not caring.. some even said the snapdragon615 can withstand up to 100C is that true??

I can't find any temperature values on the qualcomm website. Just write a email to qualcomm for first hand iformations Phone's kernel works with thermal throttling, means depending on the actual cpu temperature the cpu clock is lowered to protect the cpu from overheating. If your hardware works as it should, you can't overheat actual processors by using I suppose. If you can find a custom kernel you probably can set own values for thermal throttling. In any case you should try a kernel tool e.g. Trickster Mod or Performance Control for setting up the cpu. If you think its getting too hot, just deactivate some cores or lower the cpu clock, your phone will still be fast enough for all your applications.
Edit: which customer care people told you about the issue?

70-80 Degrees isn't a "Worry" Moment, It's actually quite normal for a Octa core to reach that high what do you expect? Since a phone doesn't have a Fan or something like a PC, so it relies on something else which needs longer time to cooldown.
My Nexus 5 using Quad Core reaches almost the same Value (65-70).
Remove the case if you have one since a case will have your phone increase in temperature too.
thanks.. i already hve done it.. i bought a flip cover which i used only for an hour... i worry only when it exceeds 70C.. i can feel the heat near the cam.. it gewts hard even to hold it. i heard meadiatek processors doesnt heat only qualcomm processors does. is it true??
is there any other phone with the same kinda heating issue? like over 70C still survive??

They've got no email addresses only office locations https://www.qualcomm.com/company/facilities/offices
then i guess only the experianced/developers in this forums can help me.. all i wanna know that if its safe to have such high temperatures ( 65 when gaming and 75+ when running benchmarking-stress test) is it ok with this qualcomm anapdragon 615 processor... some said these processors can withstand upto 100c and 90c is the cutoff temprature unlike the old processors.. can some expert who is experianced with developing any apps for any quad/octa core processor out there please help me. i just want this much info only

My processor is slower than it should be!

I bought the phone today, but I think it's way slower than it should be. I know that the LG G Flex 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 with 2.0 GHz quad core and a 1.5 Ghz quad core (octa core) CPU, but after i have runned a couple of benchmark tests in Antutu, I got a score between 35000 to 40000! That's way slower than Samsung Galaxy S5's Snapdragon 801! I thought that it whould get a score over 50000 When I see info about my CPU in Antutu after bemchmark test, it stands that the first four cores has a frequency of 1.5 GHz, while the other four cores has a frequency of 0.9 GHz (two of them are "sleeping" a lot)! Is it possible to fix that? I hope so. I've got the 16GB version with 2GB of DDR4 RAM. The device is upgraded to 5.1.1 Lollipop. (Sorry for bad English, I'm from Norway)

i got mine at Tuesday. I can pretty much say i never experienced a lag before even tho i had many apps in the recent apps tab and also i was playing high quality games and it got a little bit hot but still it was working flawless, very very fast. What i did after i updated to 5.1.1 i did a factory reset, then i downloaded only the apps that are indeed from lg apps such as calculator downloads quickremote (because most of them are useless and slow down the phone) and then i downloaded a custom launcher and greenify. Also use the google keyboard from google play store. better to use google's apps rather than lg's. Since then i never experianced any lag before. try it out. If u need more help tell me
That is really low. Go into settings and into battery saver and check if you maybe turned it on, and also see if you checked option to optimize battery in games.
Try restarting the phone and run antutu again, after a couple of minutes..
Sent from my LG-H955 using XDA Free mobile app
You are from a cold country so it should help. First try let rest the phone and launch antutu when it's at room temperature.
Then try with an ice pack on the back. It can be ice pack for injuries (kind of thick gel in plastic bag) or for cool box or ice chest, whatever you call it. But don't use it too long, you may have condensation inside the phone and it will trigger the humidity sticker (for your warranty).
Don't launch antutu after a reboot, as it's warm after a reboot. Or reboot and let it cool down first.

1.6 GHz max and only using 6 cores...

Hey guys,
i just got my LG G Flex 2 here in germany for christmas and im very happy with it
But there is 1 but important (for me) problem.
It only uses 6 out of 8 cores and the max clock is ONLY 1.6 GHz...
in Antutu im even behind the LG G4 with that "SLOWER HEXACORE" ...
Can someone help me and tell me how to get rid of those 2 problems and get 2 GHz for the Big Cores?
Also, how to easily root my german H955 with Android 5.1.1 ?
Thanks for answers and help
Edit: I got "V15-c-EUR-XX"
Edit2: GPU runs 600 MHz max instead of 650 MHz ...what did they do with my phone
Edit3: I already checked temps, before you ask. 35-40°C max.... i dont think it should throttle at that low temperature.
Okay, now, on the next day it shows up to 1950 MHz for those 4 cores.
Seems to be a temperature problem at only 35 °C ...
Whats the easiest method for rooting the flex 2 (V15-c-EUR-XX) ?
I am not sure if for this phone is the same, but sometimes if u have low battery the kernel switch some core off.
Its normal, sometimes it underclocks the CPU and not always is phone running on 8 cores.... And what about GPU? Well,i have same distribution (DEU) and max is 600 MHz,but currently i have it on 305 MHz. Personally,i never saw higher clock of the GPU,and i own this device for almost month.
Edit: the GPU underclock may be caused by Energy saving mode. However, this has no impact on CPU,CPU-Z shows 1,96 GHz even in Energy saving mode. I had same problems too,CPU-Z showed 1,56 GHz maximum, after restart 1,96 GHz max.
Thanks for the responses. One last question. Why do i get only 60k in Antutu where others get 75k+ without fridge or such?

Well. about an hour ago i ran Antutu test and got 68 000 points. However,it was much worse before (first antutu test had 48 000 points and i was shocked). There are many things that can influence the score. For example-power saving mode, current RAM status (how many apps you got in background),battery percentage and temperature. Maybe best time for test is cold start, when you jump right to Antutu after start (of course not right after, phone needs some time),because you have lowest temperature, highest free RAM and no background apps. If i did such test, i would score more points i think. And last thing-the performance drops significantly when you do many tests in in a row (i mean 1st test and then in about 10 secs other one)

Yeah my performance also seems to increase over time. Weird.
And yes this soc throttles easily. But it doesnt get as hot as my nexus 5 was sometimes with benchmarks and is still faster when throttled. Would not call this processor a fail at all.
Still hoping that the SD820 will be better in thermals though. But this chip is still more than what I need.
How is the battery life when it runs on lower clock speed?
Can someone please use the phone with underclocked cpu (1.6 or 1.8GHz) for some days and post the experience on battery, temperature and phone responsiveness? Thanks.
Battery life is not improved when the phone runs in 1.6 GHz mode. I usually get about 3 h screen on time. The phone heats up a lot under load. I never saw my phone using the full potential with this Snapdragon 810 CPU. It always runs at 1.6 GHz and that seems to be fixed by the ROM on mine.

Snapdragon 810 - Core A57 disabled

Hello,
It's been 10 days that I have a Z5. After testing all, I told myself I was going to test the core of Snapdragon following the "problems" of the z3 +.
I am quite troubled. I use Folding @ home to test the operation of cores. The 8 cores It Works together have only a few seconds. 6 core (4 A53 and A57 both) Few minutes. And after-3 minutes, only 4 A53 and 1 A57 at 800mhz Work. In games it is a bit the same. To this are normal ? For me it is not a true OctoCore. Do you think there will solutions to force the use all core ?
Thanks

In simple terms; it is down to the app to decide how many cores to use. The app is programmed in such a way to utilize X amount of cores. When you run older apps what were written for 1 and 2 core processor phones they will use 1 and 2 cores.
So yes, not using all cores is normal. When everybody is using an octo-core processor phone, apps will use all 8 cores at the most efficient level.

Thanks to you answer. But i kown that. Folding is an app that use all core. I think Sony quickly disables core to avoid overheating. For me it's not normal. Z5 never use 8 core more than few secondes
Slightly offtopic but is there many other apps that would use all cores to test?

Antutu will use all cores available to it but try running successive benchmarks and you'll soon notice that the scores drop lower and lower as the phone heats up. Now I don't know if cores are being disabled or the clocks are just lowered but either way, you can't use all 8 cores at full speed for long...

Yes agree. i'm slightly disappointed on this point. That all ^^
See now I just recently got the Z5 over my half broken z3 cause it's a 8 core vs the 4 core in the z3, but even with Antutu it only uses 4 cores, even when they're completely maxed out. I've pretty much gone from a 2.5 ghz cpu to a 1.5, it is they programs are not reading it or they're just not being used?
It's kind of infuriating really, if they won't be used ever I will send it back and get a higher clocked 4 core cpu phone.
Some times core 4 is used, slightly, would a custom rom be able to fix the issue with core not being used??
Benchmarking software should be able to max out all cores on a cpu.

Root cause of Yuphoria's heating problem, not discussed anywhere

Hi, If you use yuphoria in a non-ac environment in India in summer where outside temperature is easily between 35-40 degree Celsius, your ear and nearby head area start hurting. Its a very dangerous, as it can cause permanent damage to ears or head.
Now before anyone say, common its a smartphone, it will heat up in such temperature, its normal, I would like to inform you, when I use my father's moto E3 power in same environment I don't feel any heat.
So obviously there is some problem with Yuphoria. consider this, your phone is sitting ideal from past one hours, a call comes, you pic the call, talk for 15 minutes and then you can feel that the screen is warm in the top right corner. you are not playing any game, doing nothing which involves heavy cpu processing, you are just taking a call for 15 minutes.
You should not feel any discomfort by doing this if mobile is Ok, as proved by moto E3 power. So something is seriously wrong with yuphoria.
So I tried to search the net to know the reason why yuphoria is overheating and came across useless advice, like stop the running processes , use different charger etc (I mean basic stuffs), but my question was still unanswered , why motoE3 power is cool even if other apps are running and yuphoria is not.
In my experiment I came across one very interesting observation which is not discussed anywhere, so here I am presenting the real cause of yuphoria's heating problem.
If we see the cpu usage using CPU-Z app in moto E3 power when no other application is running, we can find that its 201 MHz for single core most of the time. This I have checked in moto E3 power having stock ROM and data connection off. I am attaching here screenshot.
https://ibb.co/ddCmLF
If we do the same thing with Yuphoria , it never goes below 800 MHz. here are the screenshots of Yuphoria CPU usage and governors selected
https://ibb.co/bUJyZa
here is the governors
https://ibb.co/iCJXua
So obviously Yupohria CPU is always running at higher frequency than Moto E3power .
FURTHER MOTO E3 POWER HAS METAL PLATS ATTACHED TO PROCESSOR TO ACT AS HEAT SINK. you can check out the disassembling video of yuphoria and moto e3 power on youtube to see that moto e3 power has heat sink whereas yuphoria doesn't have it.
Moto E3 power is using mediatek processor which produces less heat and also the highest frequency of Moto E3 Power is less, still they included a heat sink in moto e3 power.
yuphoria is using more heat producing snapdragon 410 processor, still the engineers have not included heat sink. why yuphoria ? why?
I experimented by setting minimum cpu frequncy to 200 MHz and using powersave governor and found that now I can take calls without any heating issue. Remember still in this case yuphoria is using 3 cores with 200 Mhz frequency where as moto e3 power is using only one core with 201 MHz.
now I understand that moto E3 power is running on stock and my yuphoria is running on RR Rom, but I used to feel same heating problem even when my mobile was on original cyanogen ROM, so I think this problem of processor not going below 800 MHz is present even in original cyanogen ROM of yuphoria.
Now I want to know from all the technical experts here, why yuphoria's cpu is not going below 800 Mhz even when no other app is running. Is it the limitation of snapdragon 410 processor and nothing can be done about it, or it depends upon kernel and flashing another kernel or ROM will solve the issue.
obviously we don't want to use powersave governor with 200 MHz setting, otherwise what's the point of buying a 1.21 Ghz processor mobile. We want it to use minimum frequency that 200 single core when no other application is running and using higher frequency only when required like moto E3 power.
Is it possible? If yes , how?
I am also curious to know why they decided to not include heat sink in yuphoria?
I am not a technical expert but i don't think 800mhz might be a limitation of snapdragon 410.
Plus with ur experiment results i think it might be actually software flaw and with custom kernel or a custom rom which gives the ability to choose min and max speeds should fix it as u can choose min to 200mhz even with other governors.
