Thoughts on using this device in the US - Samsung Galaxy Core

Does anyone in the US use this device? if so, what network are you on?
I have AT&T but I can't connect to their HSPA network for some reason. I am stuck on edge.
Can this phone connect to AT&T's HSPA network?
Can it connect to T-mobile's?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not from the US but i had the same problem being stuck on edge.. after few hours of searching i finally found a solution..
1. Go to >Setting>More Settings>Mobile Networks
2. Now click the mobile network which you are using to browse net
3. Click Network mode and choose WCDMA only
dont use auto or gsm.. use WCDMA because it is for 3G or HSDPA signal..
Click thanks if it helped..

Wcdma band

Hello guys
Any one knows why I get this message not registered on network if I try to make any call whenever I switch to WCDMA only even though I have a signal.
I'm not using AT&T sim card, but I can use it just fine with GSM band.
Thanks
Sounds like network registration failure. Chances are your service doesn't support AT&T 3G/WCDMA bands and when you're trying to force it to WCDMA it won't allow you to register on AT&T's 3G because you don't have their service.
If you're using T-Mobile, for example - you can only register via GSM/EDGE connections as they don't share compatible 3G connections

Sounds not good at all. So because the device is from AT&T I can't use any 3G connection with different carrier other than AT&T
P.s. why do I have a good signal in wcdma connection?
Thanks anyway
Only certain carriers have the WCDMA bands that AT&T uses. AT&T uses 850Mhz and 1900Mhz for WCDMA, so does Rogers in Canada - therefore, if you use Rogers as a service, you can utilize WCDMA no problem.
Now, if you're using T-Mobile here in the U.S. - who uses AWS 1700/2100Mhz for their WCDMA connection - it won't work as it's an entirely different band. There's no fix as this is a hardware limitation until at least AT&T buys T-Mobile officially.
What service are you using anyway? When you say WCDMA signal, what do you mean? Do you have an 'E' by your signal bars or H+?

Hmm, I'd give them a call then, you may just be experiencing a network issue in your area, does it happen outside of a 10 mile radius of where you first noticed it?

[Q] Force S2 to 3G Networks

I am using a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket on the Dirty Unicorn rom and I was wondering how I can force my network to 3G. I have Straight Talk on AT&T and a very good LTE 4G signal but it drains my battery very quickly and I don't really need the speed of LTE and the speed of 3G works fine for the things I do.
I've tried in the Mobile Network settings to switch it to GSM/WCDMA preferred but it always immediately switches back to LTE/GSM/WCDMA mode and connects to LTE. The use only 2G networks option does not work either as it immediately gets turned back off as soon as you turn it on.
Using *#*#4636*#*# to switch the mode to WCDMA preferred or GSM preferred does not work either as it also switches back to LTE immediately after.
Is it possible to force the phone to 3G networks? On my old captivate samsung phone on a 4.2 JB rom, it was doable and it worked on 3G fine (even being a 4G enabled phone).
Here is what I've found works on AT&T but it might not work for you.
Go to mobile network settings and then Network Operators. In the Network Operators screen scan for networks. If two different networks appear select the one on the bottom. Then the 2G only button and other settings will work and stick until you reboot your phone. I have to change this every time I reboot. I hope this helps.

Yes. That worked. Now I just need to figure out how to turn off the hspa so it just uses a 3G connection on WCDMA instead of hspa or hspa+

I have been using this technique every time I reboot. Anyone know how to make this permanent?
Or perhaps automate it using tasker?

Network preferred

Hey guys, my girlfriend have this phone and she have problem with network, we set it to auto and when we are in 3/4G network phone more go to EDGE (E symbol) when browsing then (3g, H) how to set network preferred to WCDMA, we can only choose wcdma but shen we are in egde we dont have signal, is there any code or any app for that, i know that in other samsung phone this is possible to set and choos but i dont know why in core isnt, any suggestions?
Only work around is to place it in gsm/wcdma mode

For 3G Set It To WCDMA
For 2G Set It To GSM Only
If Set On Auto Mode U Get Default Settings From Operator i.e if U Have 2G Plan U Get Edge And If You Are On 3G Plan You Get 3G
Moreover The Signal Also Depend On Area if there is no 3G support in that area u only get 2G

[Q] 3G not working.

I have been trying to use 3G for a while and it is never connecting to 3G. It always works on EDGE.
These are the things I tried:
1. Changed the Mobile Networks setting to 4G(recommended) and 3G.
2. Dialled *#*#4636#*#*, and tried selecting all the options. On LTE and SCDMA options it doesn't select any network. But on all other options it selects EDGE network.
Subscriber and circle: Vodafone India, Karnataka Circle, Bangalore.
All are welcome to help.

Had the same issue with a network in China and fixed it by flashing a small file.

I'm on ColorOS. Not sure if you're on CM11S or another rom but it's worth a try.

I get the same issue, i sit on edge a lot, unless i get good reception it will go to 3g. With my nexus 4 it was never on edge.
Thank you for all your help.
It so happened that, after I updated to 33R, suddenly my 3G (HSPA) started working. And it usually connects to it, but when the signal isn't strong it connects to EDGE, but I am least bothered about that. Thanks
