[GUIDE] HOWTO: Install an International LG G2 D802 ROM on the T-Mobile LG G2 D801. - T-Mobile LG G2

Standard disclaimer:
I do not guarantee that modifying your original software will not destroy your device. I do not promise to provide support to those with issues. However, this is a community and any kindness effort that you put into your inquiries and questions will likely be returned. Good luck.
Background:
As an owner of the T-Mobile D801, I realize the apparent lack of specially catered ROMs for the device. I will provide some background. It is possible to install all other G2 variant ROMs on the device, however many of these will bring with them issues. For example: ATT's (D800) extra microphone will break speaker phone on the D801, as well as cause other audio issues. Verizon's ROM is generally unstable due to the different hardware it employs. The Canadian versions, I have not tested myself, but so far have seen no Canadian-made ROMs that are better than the International counterparts.
The exception, of course, is the International variant: D802. As far as I've found, all functions on D802 ROMs work fine on the TMO D801 device. You'll just need to flash a D801 kernel over the D802 ROM.
This guide is not intended for the seasoned XDA warrior. It is simply aimed at the average D801 owner who's looking to flash some custom ROMs, only to find that he doesn't have the best selection among all the G2 variants.
Issues:
PAC ROM for D802 doesn't work using this method.
Data may not work initially due to bad settings. First, check to make sure that your APN Settings are correct. If your APN settings are all set and you're still having issues with LTE vs. UMTS/HSPA+, try changing your network mode to include LTE. Of note, a build of Vanir was having issues with data at the time of writing, so if you cannot fix your issue, try another ROM.
The only thing that I've not seen in custom ROMs based off of anything other than LG's D801 stock is WiFi calling. If you use WiFi calling, following this advice will take away that feature. To retain WiFi calling, you will need to stick to near stock. Please, if I am in error about this fact, PM me and let me know, or reply below.
Your device's build.prop will identify as a D802 from now on. You may choose to edit this back to D801. Either way, don't trust OTAs or device-specific quirks like open-recovery scripts. It's your job to be a little cautious, and avoid automation that could brick your device. Always have at least one NANDroid backup to return to.
How this works:
Very simply, the most device-specific aspect of these ROMs is the kernel (boot.img). It controls very base-level functions such as managing where boot pointers lead to and providing hardware control. G2 kernels do not mix-and-match from one device to the other. After installing a D802 ROM, you now have a completely incompatible D802 kernel. You must install a D801 kernel to fix that. Afterwards, everything generally seems to work fine. If you can find any issues, report back here.
HOWTO: Install an International LG G2 D802 ROM on the T-Mobile LG G2 D801 device.Requirements:
You must have a custom recovery (like TWRP) installed.
As far as I've seen, you also need to be rooted (IOroot method) before installing a custom recovery on this device.
Instructions:
Download the D802 ROM of your choice. [Warning: PAC ROM for D802 doesn't work]
Download a kernel made for the D801.
For stability, you may use your stock kernel for LG ROMs (backing up/restoring just "boot" in recovery --> that's the kernel), or an AOSP-friendly stock, as built by Houstonn
For features, Custom G2 is a great modified kernel. It includes a D801 version for both Stock LG-based ROMs, as well as AOSP-based ones.
Reboot into recovery.
[Optional, but strongly recommended] Perform a NANDroid Backup, in case anything goes awry. Backup at least System, Boot, and Data.
Perform a Factory Reset, then wipe cache & dalvik cache.
Install the D802 ROM, including Gapps if needed. DO NOT REBOOT.
Immediately install the D801 kernel.
Reboot.
Enjoy.*
If you ever update your D802 ROM, through .zip or per-ROM OTA, you must always flash a D801 kernel afterwards.
Troubleshooting:
*It may take a while to get by your first boot. I've personally never had the first boot take longer than 2 minutes or so. If it takes upwards of 10 minutes, then try forcing a reboot by holding the power button. If the device still won't boot, something must have gone wrong. Reboot into recovery by holding the power button until the screen goes black, then hold Vol-Down & Power, and when the LG logo appears, release and re-press/hold this key combination. You will arrive at a screen offering a factory reset. Just press the power button twice, ignoring the warnings, and you will boot into recovery. Restore the NANDroid backup you made earlier.Your phone should boot now. You may attempt to try the whole thing again. Post the combo that gave you issues to this thread. Again, this has never happened to me when following the correct procedure. An issue I could see is attempting to use an AOSP-friendly kernel with an LG Stock-based ROM, or vice-versa.
If you are having issues with data, see the "Issues" section above for my recommendation: APN Settings.
-----------------------
I've been running D802 ROMs for weeks, without any abnormal issues, including CleanROM, Vanir AOSP, AOKP, and CM.

Which ROM works best for you? I'm about to try CM M1 for D802..

Works best? None. They are all rather stable.
Out of all the CM-based ROMs I tried for the G2, my personal preference turned out to be VanirAOSP. I like the default task chooser (AOKP uses an alternative), the features it kanged from other ROMs, such as the swipe-to-switch between quick toggles & notifications, the navigation bar settings (taken from AOKP), and more. Of course, all ROMs have their own little quirks and feels.
I personally don't need PIE or Halo, as I find that a higher DPI (400-440 instead of stock 480) and a smaller Nav Bar fix my screen real-estate issues. That's why I don't invest time into Paranoid Android. However, some people swear by Paranoid.
AOKP is great if for nothing other than their organization.
CM is wonderful because of its legacy.
SlimBean has a system-wide dark theme and some ICS-like features that some people love to hold onto.
VanirAOSP is newer and took a lot of the features I liked from AOKP and merged them with the stability of CM.
There are other options. Try going down different roads. You'll see what you like.
Altogether I'd sum up by saying that the cores are something like:
CM: stability and uniformity.
AOKP: throw a lot of features at the wall, see what sticks.
PA: radical earth-shattering features, which some may or may not like.
Others: Usually a combination of all of the above. Read the descriptions.
Also: new kid on the block is OmniROM. It looks like it'll be great, but as of yet isn't completely polished. I'm excited for their 4.4 release!

Well I can confirm that the M1d802 cm ROM works with d801 kernel, seems like signal is a little weaker though!

What about sound quality? When I tried AOSP 801 Roms the sound seemed distorted at times and people on the other end seemed to notice a difference.

The radios/modems don't get overwritten with a flash, so that's strange that you'd have varying signal quality. I'm on WIND in Canada, so I can't really vouch as to how TMO's signal quality is on different ROMs. I've noticed, though, that my WIND experience has been pretty similar on everything except a D800 ROM, which really messed with loudness levels and quality, due to the microphone differences.
Effectively on a D800 ROM I had these issues:
-Earpiece is BLISTERING loud. Lowest volume, too loud for comfort. Highest volume, can hear from the next room.
-Generally quiet. I need to speak into the mic directly, lest I not be heard.
-Non-functioning speakerphone. I can hear the other end, but they can't hear me.

So your back using a stock T-Mobile Rom now though? I'm fine with the Buckeye Rom but do miss flashing Roms like I did with the S4. Did you try the Omni Rom? What about MIUI? I kind of like to change things up. Thanks for the this thread I was wondering if this was possible.

Haha, you sound excited. I'm using a stock T-Mo ROM for the Camera app and the battery, but I am really just waiting for the 4.4 ROMs to roll in. I'm pretty certain that the OmniROM and MIUI will work fine, so make a backup and go try them!

You might also want to include more of a vanilla kernel in your guide, modified kernels are not for everyone and often go under heavy changes and development at anytime which often make them unstable. Houstonn has kernels built for all our devices, I'd suggest to recommend those as they are far more likely to have less issues than a modified kernel.

Added to OP.

THANK YOU
Thank you for figuring this out! I am flashing the latest CM 10.2 nightly (11/11) with Houstonn's AOSP kernel and will report back with any issues in this thread.

Maybe it's time I start dev'ing again, let the endless downloading, installing and setup begin!
And I just cleaned everything up with a fresh install.
I hate you Android... I was so close to getting away... DAMM YOU!

Flashed VanirAOSP 802 build. I was bit worried because it seemed to take longer to flash. Guess I flashed the wrong kernel since I have no data. WiFi works. I also can't figure out how to rearrange the nav buttons. I like the back button on the far right instead of left.

Vanir should have nav bar settings... But data is probably APN settings. Are you on TMO? See the documentation on TMO's site: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
Set up your APNs, report back. None functioning data would be pretty bad.
EDIT: also kernel should not really affect data. If your signal is working but without data, it is almost always missing APN settings and sorry about the formatting on this reply... This is from my Nexus 7

I'm getting the same problem on the CM 10.2 ROM. I can't get it to connect to 4G or LTE. I've changed my APN and set the connection type to LTE and still nothing. It was doing the same thing on Vanir as well, any ideas?

[UNOFFICIAL] ROM Status Thread (VZW SGSIII)

---------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++----------
The purpose of this thread is to keep people updated on the status of various ROM's for the VZW SGSIII, because although the search button is our friend, sifting through pages of progress is cumbersome for a few of us. This is not a babysitting thread, though - I'm not posting hundreds of links to different pages and answering ROM tech support questions ( at least not all of the time ). If you post pending issues with the ROM, we can get them here and also post work arounds and fixes in a centralized area so as to not clutter the ROM sub forum. This thread will have THREE major parts.

I will be adding more ROM's as they come and as I have more time to. At night when my wife and daughter are passed out, I test these ROM's extensively. I also decompile and check everything out, just to see what might make one tick. You can post any questions you have here, and this way the devs have a centralized thread to look at where major concerns can be posted and fixes/updates/patches can be relayed just incase you missed a reply/skipped a page using the xda mobile app/etc.

Part 2: Complaints, Workarounds and Fixes
---------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++----------
Q: I lost my ability to do direct call from text after flashing this rom, and a theme.
A: I'm willing to bet you didn't realize the stock mms was replaced by the AOSP version. Luckily for you, forum post #298 in the Jellybean Domination v7.2 thread has a stock MMS fix, that is also themed blue.
Q: I flashed paranoid android and i lost complete cellular service, and I have no IMEI! Why would they make a ROM like this?
A: It's a fault somewhere between flashing this rom and K-Exec doing it's job. We don't know exactly whats causing it yet. But chances are if you would have READ you would have heard about this being the number one RISK as of right now, and backed up your EFS/IMEI accordingly. A link on how to do just that is in the first part of this thread.
Q: SynergyROM people said that tethering works and VZW Mobile Tethering is broken. What gives?
A: I could have sworn they included a different WiFi hotspot app that works off of one touch. Look for it
Q: Google Now isn't working. I installed the APK and all it says is initializing.
A: As far as I know Google Now is a jelly bean addition, correct? We are on Ice Cream Sandwich. We can't really expect everything to work. A working google now can be found in the Paranoid Android ROM, which is AOSP and Jelly Bean'd.
Q: The Dev(s) of (variable) ROM haven't replied to me or addressed my issue directly. Whats the point of being a dev?
A: This is not the Devs job. The Dev makes the ROM. The Community flashes, tests, and reports bugs/problems. The dev then finds the time to fix these issues when he/she/they can. You're not a twelve year old in a ROM candystore where every ROM is a Daily Driver until this bootloader situation gets handled properly.
Q: Awesome Beats doesn't seem to be working, help!
A: Just because it's on there doesn't mean it's supposed to work. It's experimental, and some people have given the nod and others the axe. Your model may vary. I do have a modified SGSII version of a beats script I've been working on that i've test flashed on mine that works, and I'll pass that out after some more testing and after I find the creator of it and get his/her permission, at least so I can give proper credit for the original compiling.
---------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++-------------------+++++----------
Hey guys, this is for you. It looks like confirmation of the efs/imei backup working on more than one person. This comes from Paranoid Android thread. I hope this helps!
It is now.. I have data AND voice. Where previously I did not.
itsmefu is correct. I used the backup from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29201792#poststop
To elaborate, I went from:
stock rom->rooted with root66 rom->made a backup of my IMEI/EFS
I did not know this but for some reason this phone views our internal storage as SD CARD whereas the actual "physical" SD CARD is named EXT SD Card... so when i first backed it up I was unaware of this... but I had used the method I linked to back up the IMEI/EFS. So that there is an EFS.BIN on my EXT SD Card.
I than updated my kernel to the latest OTA->updated my baseband to the latest OTA (I advise rolling back to the previous baseband as this baseband is HORRIBLE...)
|_->downloaded the vzd2 image recovery from this thread->downloaded JB GAPPS->downloaded paranoid droid
|_->booted into recovery using three finger method->data wiped->cache wiped->dalvik cache wiped
|_->installed PARANOID ANDROID-> installed JB GAPPS
|_->rebooted... and my data/voice was broken.
SO:
went back to recovery->nandroided back (^ok sorry i forgot I nandroid before the whole installing process...)
|_->got back to root 66 rom with root.
|_->downloaded terminal emulator
|_->followed the instructions to push the imei/efs back into the phone.
|_->rebooted.
Working data and voice. Got 4g/3g/and VOICE (<-the MOST Important).
Repeated the appropriate steps to install Paranoid Android..
Now i have working data/voice.. 4g and 3g.. Going to roll back to previous baseband though as with this new baseband I'm dropped 4g, 3g constantly at the areas when i had constant 4g and 3g!
---------- Post added at 01:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:06 PM ----------
I can't really confirm but I know I had ALOT of zeroes in my IMEI with broken data and voice... so I'm pretty sure I had it, as I lost connection to network in total.. basically a broken phone but a working wifi tablet? haha.

May want to make sure it's confirmed on more than one device and total IMEI loss before adding to the main post.
Rather clutter than people flashing and borking phones because of bad info. Mods delete this after a solution has been found and then no more clutter.

Are you talking about the lift to call motion here? If so, that has worked for me on both versions of nosympathy's ROM as well as the most recent synergy ROM.
Pretty sure if the stock MMS gets replaced by a theme/ROM direct call gets borked.
Didn't say it was won completely working, but it's better to have a backup then it is to flash and then be pissed off. One if the main reasons I made the thread is just so people can be aware. There are plenty of roms and same day developers and assholes and trolls, but we need more people helping instead of demeaning. At least now they can look and SAY OK, there is a huge warning in red regarding k-exec and AOSP Roms. Instead of people dev bashing it can help. Also I don't consider this thread clutter.

It should work on any rom based off of mine. Synergy is one of those.
He is posting it mainly because there are some themes out there that default the stock ICS mms.apk instead of the TW secmms.apk that is in my bases. No one had a working deodexed secmms.apk until I released my first base.

Absolutely. Before no sympathy it's safe to say we were stuck, in a way. His tremendous work happened after these themes were being created, and people were blaming the ROM and that's clearly not the problem, and unfair.
Great work by the way no sympathy.

At least now they can look and SAY OK, there is a huge warning in red regarding k-exec and AOSP Roms. Instead of people dev bashing it can help. Also I don't consider this thread clutter.

Thats why I suggested the OP to update the thread with the backup to be at least confirmed working for more than 1 person-the orginal OP of the backup efs thread and me-so far... Because than at least people will be less afraid. They still have to be cautious as even getting root is not 100% safe if you don't follow anything to the T.
Well said slic!

Absolutely. Before no sympathy it's safe to say we were stuck, in a way. His tremendous work happened after these themes were being created, and people were blaming the ROM and that's clearly not the problem, and unfair.
Great work by the way no sympathy.

Rather clutter than people flashing and borking phones because of bad info. Mods delete this after a solution has been found and then no more clutter.

Thanks glad you agree with me! Because apparently Farabomb thought it was clutter... which in my aspect I think at least having it worked twice should count as a fundementally WORKING backup vs. a "THEORETICAL" backup... Because realistically till this happened to me we only had one case which was the OP of the EFS thread.. so it wasn't only in theory that it would work.
And i'm pretty sure for a 15 numbers string theres only one way of messing this up..
Btw, thanks Chad for posting what i wrote in the other thread up. And my apologies if it's a bit long, people said they wanted a detailed transcript so I did that..
LOL!
I'm glad it's long. The way people work on xda sometimes, long descriptions and transcripts are needed. I want everyone to work together, because all we will do is benefit!

Slic|<, my comment was in response to the post below me. Sorry if I offended. I was in irc trying to find out if it was just you that came back. I just didn't want people flashing madly without a proven solution. I flashed aokp without issue but I was still wary of trying any other ROMs without a working backup.

Well you can try paranoid android rom now with no worries <--less worries- since I was the unofficial guneai pig... thank god I fixed it though lol. I also just got my 4g working again, had to reset my radio to LTE/CDMA/GSM it was set to GSM/CDMA auto. Reset it with the phone info app. Now i can see if it's better than the last baseband.
Will keep you guys updated.

hardware or software suckyness?

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read.
I have a LG G2X, love the feel, the display, the specs and the price. Hate the phone....in every other way
I am on my 4th G2X now b/c I keep taking it back to T-Mobile to get a new one based on the following things my phone does:
1. It restarts 1-2x a week, randomly with or without a power adapter plugged
2. It freezes up every other day or so and requires a hard restart (battery pull) to resume use
3. It frequently takes 5+ minutes to get a GPS lock (tried in several cities coast to coast US)
Now if it were just the first phone I could say lemon, but every G2X I have owned does this, T-Mobile told me it was a known issue with the phone but couldn't tell me if it was software or hardware in nature.
So my question to you fellow forumites is this: Is the issue hardware related (move on to another phone) or software (Rom install fixes all my worries and I'm happy forever and ever and ever)?
If you're still using the stock ROM, and are still on 2.3.3, then you are experiencing SW suckage... Get a custom CM7 Rom on there and enjoy some of the finer benefits. Stability will be better but you won't be dead-set stable. GPS has been an issue for some since the inception of the phone. Others have GREAT GPS reception.
Research the Development forums and find a CM7.2 ROM that best suits you. You can of course go CM9 (ICS) but you won't get HW Acceleration and some things just flat out don't work yet.

The stability and GPS performance are greatly enhanced by the stock 2.3.4 ROM, also, if you're not a CM7 fan.

Thanks for the great responses guys, just another reason I love this forum.
I should have given a few more details, I am running stock 2.3.3 on T-Mobile in the US.
Few questions for a techie (but virgin ROMer):
1. Is the 2.3.4 stock available OTA? I haven't seen any available upgrades.
2. What does baseband refer to? (trying to educate myself on the terms)
3. Any favorite ROMs? My must haves are stability and speed, other than that any goodies/awesomeness is welcome but the first two are absolute.
I am tempted to stick to stock ROMs as I haven't flashed one myself yet and this phone is my lifeblood b/c of work.
On a scale of 1-10 where 1 is "I did it with on accident when I dropped it down the stairs" and 10 is "the most difficult thing you will ever do in your life" what is the difficulty for a ROM virgin to sucessfully flash to 2.3.4 (if it is not available OTA) or CM7/other ROMs,etc?
I am technical, 12 year IT professional with MCSA/CCNA, etc but haven't done much research into the ROM biz. If its not too difficult is there a "Must read" guide for noobs?

Difficulty is pretty low. If you can follow instructions, and understand what you're doing, then you should be good to go. If you want 2.3.4, you're gonna need to use LG's ****ty software. Either you use KDZ flasher, or LG's official PC suite. Both crashed on me constantly on Win7 x64. I was lucky/unlucky, it crashed right after writing the baseband (low level radio firmware). It hadn't even partitioned anything yet if I tried to turn it on, not even a backlight was showing. So I had to use NVflash to completely repartition it to stock. After that, I flashed CWM (clockworkmod), the custom recovery. Nowadays, TWRP is available. TWRP is awesome, and they have awesome Devs. TWRP (teamwin recovery project) is touch based rather than CWM and traditional volume key and power button navigation. There is CWM touch, but it's extremely experimental and I find it too glitchy compared to TWRP. TWRP is a work in progress however and there may be issues (I had one but it was easily fixed with one command when I spoke with the Devs on irc) I haven't had any serious ones though. IMO it's easier to NVflash in a Linux environment, because there is no messing around with drivers. But after drivers are installed on windows, the difficulty level plateaus.
As for my favorite ROM, that would currently temasek cm7 builds. They're stable, fast and they're customizable as f***.
I don't have any links right now, because I'm on my phone, (I can grab them later/soonish) you're going to want tga_gunman's thread named something along the lines of "One click recovery flasher" that's for CWM recovery. If you want TWRP, there's a thread that has TWRP in the title.
Also look for "ROM for recovery under NVflash" or something similar to that. That will take you back to complete stock 2.3.3 no matter what happened software wise, unless you somehow managed to break the baseband. The baseband is the only thing that cannot be fixed by NVflash, only can be fixed by LG's ****ty PC software.
For temasek's cm7 builds, the thread is not created by temasek, but the builds are by him. It should be at build 133 or 134.
If you need anything else, PM me maybe.

Edit: I'll test without the fix, to be sure and flash the baseband if needed, i understood from the comments in the ROM's thread that its needed for Bluetooth calls.
I might have found the baseband fix link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776843) can anyone confirm?

Firstly thanks for all the good Q/A, like a good forum noobie, I'm marking thanks each reply.
I want to make sure I understand your comment. This is what I understood, let me know if I'm off/on. The CM Roms do not work with BT calling, so I should stick with stock if that's important to me? I would assume then for me to get beyond my current issues (OP) my best bet would be to Flash the 2.3.4 stock?
Thanks again for the info and time.
***edit***
Nix the above. I completely read it wrong, thought you were saying all CM ROMs didn't work with Bluetooth. Just so on the current Baseband.
I'm on Jul 15 2011 Baseband currently, so I'll attempt the CM7 ROM this weekend when I'm back home and able to devote more focus. Coming from stock 2.3.3 do I need to flash a kernel as well or will that be in the ROM <---showing my ROM noobness but unashamed to learn.

If you decide to get the newer baseband (you get it with 2.3.4 kdz, only way to get new baseband) and bt calling is important, do not go to cm. If you don't mind staying on the older baseband, bt calling will work fine on cm.

Lol, I feel so dumb, its like learning a new language while being held underwater.
kdz=?
I'm trying to understand why I would decide to get the newer baseband? If I do I can use BT calling but can't use CM7 ROMs, if I don't I can use CM7 ROMs and BT calls should work fine. Dont see the upside to upgrading the baseband, unless it has issues?

KDZ = LG's proprietary file type to update their phones via PC officially. A lot of people say the new baseband gives them better gps and call quality. Basically if you don't change baseband to the new one, everything will work perfectly. If you DO switch, everything will work perfectly, but only on stock. Everything will work on cm except Bluetooth calling with the new baseband. I don't think it's worth restricting yourself to stock because of the new baseband and and bt calling. My recommendation? Don't change baseband, just go to cm. Also, soon we might start to see android 4.1.1 jelly bean. They won't be stable for a while though.
Too much fun.
Couldn't wait, just finished flashing CWM, then backed up, then wiped like 400x then dropped the CM7 ROM you sugested.

CM 10 for HD using Safestrap 3.60

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to smartphones. I recently bought a RAZR HD xt926 knowing it was a really good phone but I hadn't dug deep enough to realize the bootloader is not unlockable anymore until after I bought one :crying: . So I've been scrounging around for my options. So far I've gotten Safestrap 3.60 and rooted my phone. I've noticed some mention of flashing CM 10 or 10.1 using SS but every zip I find either fails to flash or wont boot afterwards.
Anyone know where a good and working CM10 zip that would work and/or the best SS compatible rom?
System version: 9.18.79
Android 4.1.2
build number: 9.8.1Q-79
You can't use CM with Safestrap because it tries to flash a different kernel. You need to use ROMs that are stock-based like RageHD, Nexesque, etc.
What are you looking for exactly? Something very close to stock or something with more custom stuff added?

Well I was basing that off of several threads I found like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34592575
Says it is CM 10 that works on Safestrap3 but the file isn't available any more on the download site.
I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. I've looked briefly at Aviator, RageHD, Blurry, Widow, Paragon Maxximus, and a couple others I found. Only found a small handful so far though.
Currently I'm using the stock but added AntTek Quick Toggle, Notification Toggle, Google Keyboard (very similar to CM's minus the blue), and Reboot Menu Widget *ROOT* (as the stock doesn't have Reboot in the power menu). Pretty much just adding stuff to give it more of the features I really enjoyed on my previous phone which has CM10.1.3 on it
Hmm, maybe that version of CM will work then. I never ended up using Safestrap myself so I couldn't say for sure.
Anyway, the link doesn't work right now because goo.im is in the middle of upgrading their servers.
I see. Hopefully I'll be able to get it once they finish and it work out. :good: guess that's the best I can do with this phone. Stock rom doesn't look half bad when using Next launcher 3D combined with the rest of the stuff I mentioned.
Yeah, I agree. Stock isn't bad at all with root. You get great battery life and you can remove all the bloatware anyway.
Yeah, I've yet to remove any bloatware. Probably only adding to the list in a way. The battery life was the main reason I bought this phone as my SII Skyrocket has a terrible battery life. I'd probably have gotten another phone or tried to find a developer or unlocked version if I'd known beforehand about the update, but such is my luck :silly:

I suggest using kitkang http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525831

SSPENCER10 is working very well for me. Everything he is putting out is stable and appears to be having fewer issues than KitKang. It is even working just as well with ART as it was with Dalvik. The 11-23 build also has the new CM11 boot animation.

You realize they are all based on exactly the same code right?
And you realize that if one makes 'progress' they all make 'progress' because they use the same code right?

Summary: I don't think KitKang is recognizing my SIM card, and is causing "Phone" to crash every second or two.
Hey guys, I tried flashing the latest KitKang ROM last night, but ran into a big issue. I wiped system, cache, dalvik cache, etc. I then reflashed the MF1 firmware (it was already flashed, but for some reason I always feel better re-flashing it every time.) Then I flashed the latest KitKang D2VZW nightly linked above, and flashed the GApps mentioned in that thread too. However, upon rebooting, every second or so it would say "phone has forced closed" (or something along those lines. Also, there was no signal. I got through the setup process after a VERY long time of pressing "okay" to that error and setting up my CM and Google accounts with one key in between each error. I thought I would be able to go into Mobile Networks and change the settings, which fixed certain early issues with CM10.1 or 10.2, but to no avail. I then tried reflashing (after wiping clean) CM10.2 again to get certain files for the phone to work, then flashing CM11 over that, and it seemed to work up until it freezes after getting to the home screen. Any thoughts on what the issue may be and/or how to fix it?
Thanks!

How to Get Camera Working with PAC-ROM 4.4.4

This a work in progress. Any help will be appreciated.
The problem:
When I try to Start Camera, I get an error "Can't connect to the camera."
I get the same error from HD Camera Ultra and Focal
Unsuccessful fixes tried and notes of caution:
After installing CMFix for Camera from play store, the app does not seem to do anything at all.
Flashing,
Using TWRP to flash camfix.zip causes phone not to boot up. Had to reflash ROM.
This post is a work in progress, and will be updated as I keep trying until it is an explanation.
The ROM installed these two files in \system\lib\hw
camera.msm8960.so
camera.vendor.msm8960.so
I tried renaming these to:
old.camera.msm8960.so
camera.msm8960.so
I then tried renaming them to:
vendor-camera.msm8960.so
camera.vendor.msm8960.so
none of these worked.
Since the specs of the RAZR M and and the XT897 are very similar, I plan to try these Motorola camera apk's. The RAZR M's front facing camera is lower resolutin; so, I would imagine mine might not work.
If you are running a xt897 build on a RAZR M, that might explain the camera issues...
Are you using the old unified builds? Is there any reason you're not on CM13? PAC hasn't gotten any new builds, unified or otherwise, for a long time (for this device).

My phone is an XT897, not a RAZR M. My Photon had already been updated to Jelly Bean by Sprint when I bought it. I am currently running: [ROM][OFFICIAL][KitKat 4.4.4][moto_msm8960_jbbl] PAC-ROM 4.4.4.RC-2. This is a unified build for phones with msm8960 cpu and is based on CM11.

I have a CDMA XT897 -- no SIM Card. CM10 is the last release for my device. There are some CM11 Nightly builds available.
Since the XT897 only has 1GB of RAM, I thought KitKat would be a good place to be. This PAC-ROM was the only KitKat 4.4.4 ROM I could find for my phone that still has a live download link.
Everything is infinitely more responsive on all things. The most noticeable is the keyboard. On JB stock ROM, I have to hold keys about 1/4 of a second before the letters show up on the screen ... and just to make it more annoying , if I don't release it precisely when it is registered, I end up with multiple characters, grr. With this PAC-ROM, they are instantly registered.
Also, I can't begin to tell you how many "features" of Android I disable regardless of version:
My wallpaper is a plain black png.
The annoying google search box on my desktop -- GONE!
Screen rotation -- disabled.
The cutsie battery and wireless icons are now numbers.
All animations are disabled.
The list goes on... LOL
That being said, I do wish I had a way to patch my ROM for known security holes in KitKat 4.4.4 now and in the future without having to replace the OS and re-tweak it back with all the changes I want. I use Firefox 40.0.3 for much the same reason .

You're mistaken. The division to separate xt897 cdma (xt897c) and sim modified xt897 gsm (xt897) builds at the time of cm10 was artificial, caused by broken world phone support in cm10 at the time.
The separate cdma and gsm builds were later unified again under a single xt897 cm11 build meant for both cdma and gsm networks as soon as the world phone support was fixed.
xt897 cm-11.0, cm-12.0, cm-12.1 and cm-13.0 builds are supposed to work on cdma networks just fine.
That being said, it's still true that I'm able to test only the gsm stuff myself and the dealing with possible cdma issues solely depends on detailed reports and logs from cdma users.
cm-11 builds for xt897 are here: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=moto_msm8960_jbbl
cm-12.1 and newer builds for xt897 are here: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=xt897

In this case, I am happy to be mistaken! :cyclops: Unless someone knows something I do not, the XT897 is the only qwerty phone that works on Sprint's 4G LTE CDMA network.
I have 2 functional XT897's here. Both are rooted. One has stock JB. The other is currently running PAC-ROM. I use TWRP for recovery and backup, etc.

Since you provided both links, you have me wondering, do I need to install 11 before installing 12.1 or later?

You can go straight to CM13 if you desire. Just need to be unlocked with a custom recovery (IE TWRP).

Thank you. I flashed cm-12.1-20151007-SNAPSHOT-YOG4PAO339-xt897.zip
Unless, I am mistaken "Snapshot" suggests a more stable / proven / debugged version, is that not correct? That is the highest version with Snapshot on the page you sent me to.
I have been playing around with it this morning. I have 2 xt897's here. Right now, one is running stock JB rooted and majorly tweaked, lol. It is the one I have active with my phone service. So, I can't test SMS or phone calls on the new ROM yet.
Wifi is working. Bluetooth turns on and works with my speaker. Both of the Cameras work, and the software lets me save pics to my exfat formatted sd card with no extra app -- NICE!
I found one problem, but I am not sure how to deal with it. The space key on the hardware keyboard is not working. Can you help me debug that? Or tell me where I should post / ask the question, even?
Thank you again!

Post in the thread relevant to that ROM, or make a Q&A thread about that topic... but that sounds like a hardware issue.

sadly, you were correct. That key is now dead in all ROMs. :crying:
