[MOD] NFC Screen Locked/Screen Off Beta - Galaxy Note 3 Themes and Apps

Hi Folks,
this is a mod NFC service that runs at boot. It allows you to scan NFC tags either with the screen totally off, or with the screen on but still at the lockscreen. By default nfc will not work unless the screen is on and unlocked. download one of the zips below, and flash it via recovery.
This is still in beta as currently I don't have a Note 3 to test on, But I have been doing the mod for the Galaxy S4 see this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285978
anyway would be nice to have feedback if it works currently I have uploaded the Lock screen version which should work fine any feedback much appreciated.
Optimal

Thanks so much Optimal.
yeah, Im on MJ3 now so if you can get lockscreen version up for that that would be fantastic.
Just out of curiosity.....if I tried the MJ1 version on MJ3 would it work?

For those who just have Root (De la Vega Root), the file in the 1st post needs to be flashed through recovery
Using a root explorer, Copy And Replace the APK to /system/app/NfcNci.apk , Delete the NfcNci.odex aswell, Reboot and should work!
Make Sure You Backup the old file first!

Should work since the files are same
You Try at your own risk, i take no responsibility for your data loss!!

When I flash the zip via recovery, it says
"E. signature verification failed" but still says update complete at the end.
I then copy over the NfcNci file and delete the odex file, reboot....and it WORKS!!!
Thanks so much Optimal. If you are looking for donations at all....Id be more than happy to.

Hi and Big Thanks for your work ?
Works for me on MJ1,flashed by CWM...
Can you make for MJ1 a screen off please ?

hmmm...not sure but this may have tripped my knox flag. Pretty sure it was still 0x0 after root. I'm not too bothered but just a warning to others.

If you are root your knox is 0x1 without a method root like vegas ?
Envoyé de mon SM-N9005 en utilisant Tapatalk

I did root with De LA Vega and Im pretty sure I checked knox straight after and it was 0x0. Haven't done anything else after except this which is why I think this may have caused it.... especially the part when I flashed via recovery and it said E. signature verification failed

Why not use the xposed version? It's in the xposed download repository. No need to manually get an apk.
What's the difference between the one on xposed and this?

Not working the zip on bmj3
Not working the apk (on screen lock only) on bmj3
Not working xposed for me if I don't wipe, and if it's possible I will prefer to not do it!

Xposed version is working on the mj1

When you say "copy and replace", do you mean there should already be a file at /system/app/NfcNci.apk? On my AT&T Note 3 (n900A), the only NFC related apks I see in /system/app are Nfc.apk (157.15KB) and NfcTest.apk (20.74KB).

Hi!
Do you know if there is any alternativ app available for LG G2 D802 32GB version (rooted) running OFW 4.4.2? I just need activated nfc when the screen is on but locked. Can you help me?
Thanx!

Is there a 'screen-off' version of this mod, compatible with stock KitKat ROM on the Note3 N9005? I used this feature all the time on my Galaxy S3 and it's funny the little things you take for granted and had completely forgotten required a mod!

I tried this on my stock KitKat Note 3 and it did not work, so I guess they've updated the NfcNci.apk file in the meantime (I tried clearing the cache as well, just in case).
I'd be really grateful if someone (OptimalKiller?) could try to create a modified APK for the latest ROMs - I'd be happy to supply my original version of the NfcNci.apk file if needed.
Andre

Mod for Kit Kat Please!
If you know a mod for Kit Kat ROM(s) , Can you please share the same? The Kit Kat NFC apk(s) have changed.
ROM details:
Kit Kat 4.4.2
Baseband: N9005VJUFNG2
Build Number: KOT49H.N9005VJUFNG3
NFC Apks (existing in the above ROM):
NfcNci.apk
NfcTest.apk
Thanks in advance!
Current workaround used:
Xposed NFC module. Works for unlocking. but would like to do more stuff without even unlocking the phone.

Lollipop
Guys, this is a very usefull feature. Since xposed still doesn't work w/ Lollipop it is not an option at this time.
Has anyone tried any mod that is not dependent on xposed?
Cheers.

Every other person on XDA should have a nickname RootManiac
It's stable and Official. Only one thing is weird, if you try to set "write permissions" to the "system" in file manager, the phone won't let you do it and it'll reboot automatically... New SEAndroid feature...
Other than that, ALL OK, I'm using quite few apps with root access and all of them works fine, including restoring apps and data..
enjoy and report any issues
Sorry, but what does this do, does it root your device?
If you do this you don't have to do CF-Auto-Root?
Or, just when necessary, revert back to stock ROM?
And can someone explain to me what's Odin? I came from One XL.
After doing this, you still have to use CF-Auto-Root right?
Because this isn't permanent is it? Meaning you can't flash other ROMs etc unless you do CF Auto-Root?

Hi, thanks for this, but I've seen that you just posted German and UK versions, I'm from Spain, I could use for example the UK Rom?
Thanks!
EDIT: Solved XD I now understand that I just need to change the CSC to my region... With the app you said, or by using the Command: *#272*IMEI# so that you can do it manually from the phone without the need of the up, I tried it now and works perfectly thanks again! (You could put the info of the command in your first post, someone might want to know it!)

[Q] Is it worth rooting 907A AT&T version?

So I just got the Note Pro like a week or two ago, I generally always root my devices, but I've seen lots of reports of random reboots. Does removing all of the Knox apps fix that?
So, do you guys think it's worth rooting? I've never had a Samsung device, so I know I'm going to have to read up on Odin and Kies a bit, but are there any easy step-by-step tutorials posted around anywhere?

It was definitely worth it for me just to have X posed installed and be able to use the GravityBox module along with some Note specific mods. Especially useful is the mod to allow any apps to be multi-window pop up apps.
l had to downgrade to an earlier build because Samsung patched the Towelroot exploit earlier this year. That required using Odin which isn't difficult at all to use. Once I downgraded the Towel root app worked perfectly and I was able to install Supersd from Chainfire. There is a debloat script you can run in Terminal Emulator and it will disable all the Knox stuff but also gives you individual options to de bloat other apps in the stock AT&T TW Rom. I've been running for a couple of weeks with no problems whatsoever.
Here's the link to the Odin files l used to downgrade. The Odin application to use is in post # 2

Thanks for the info and links... I may break down and just do it, although I've been debating waiting for the Lollipop update.
I can always flash back to stock later, right?
The links he posted are stock, just an earlier build that towelroot works with. You should be able to go into settings and run "check for updates" when lollipop is released from AT&T.
You guys are awesome, thanks for the info. Just rooted, debloating now. Any suggestions on the best Xposed modules to use? Anything else I should install?
Awesome! I'll be giving this a go once I get home. I just picked up my note pro last weekend. Only complaint is not being able to multiwindow every app so this is perfect!
Did you guys install TWRP? If so, did you use Odin?

You're rooted but the bootloader is still locked and there is no way to unlock it at this time. Therefore no TWRP or custom ROMs.

GravityBox gives you the most customization options. You can get Multi Window Manager from the Play store and it works with Xposed to give you multi window for any app. Those are the two I'm using so far bit have had mine for only a few weeks.
The end of the first post has a few good xposed modules to try, http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/rom-original-stock-debloated-stock-t2860069 And I've attached an image of the ones I like.
Hangouts?
After downgrade....does hangouts work for video calling?

Hello, my first time posting of the forums.. I followed all these steps except the last step before I found this thread, and allowed the forced Ota update to screw up my root... now I can't access custom recovery mode to reinstall the old firmware. Tablet works fine, but no root and no chromecast... Not sure if you can use odin in stock recovery mode.. Is there a way to install firmware you gave the link by SD card so I can reroot? Thanks in advance!
No Odin is the only way. You can access recovery by turning the tablet on while holding down vol down and the home button.

I'm such an idiot.. I figured that out right after I made this post.. Everything is good to go.. The only issue I'm having now is that even after debloating I'm still getting the ota update ... Not sure if I need to disable all bloatware.. I kept some of the apps like YouTube enabled but disabled the ATT ones and a few others from what I can remember .. Any suggestions on how to stop the ota update ?
Will this trip Knox and device status?

Quick question about this procedure: if I use oden to downgrade my tablet from NK2 to ND7, will my device status change from original to custom?
The purpose for this is to network unlock my tablet. I sent in my tablet for warranty repair due to the blue screen of death. They replaced the main board and reflashed the os with NK2. I've had my tablet back for 2 weeks but it came back network locked. It had been previously unlocked by a seller prior to purchase/arrival in January. I was using my T-Mobile tablet sim with the tablet which worked great.
I've tried sim network unlock codes from various sources, the code is always the same regardless of the source, with no success. I'm working with 2 theories as to what occurred at the repair center: they didn't reinstall the LTE modem properly or the flash messed up ability to successfully network unlock. If I can get the tablet to network unlock then I'll continue with the root because having the capability to use multiwindow for all apps with xposed is great.

Hello everyone. I've been contacted by a few folks about possibly compiling a kernel to support root on 5.1.1 and I have been talking with a fellow xda member about it and have went ahead and compiled one for you guys. However, before posting it here I would like to get a few more testers.
So if anyone is interested, reply back here and I may PM you with a link.
Prereq:
-Have a means to get back to stock software. This includes an Odin flashable TAR or a recovery flashable ROM.
-Make sure you have a BACKUP!. I cannot stress this enough. While I am certain you won't run into any trouble with the kernel, it's always good to have a backup of your system (including kernel[boot in twrp]) beforehand.
-Know a bit of knowledge about how to restore your system or what this root enabled kernel will provide. I won't be able to reply to PMs asking me questions. You should know a bit about what you're doing before you do it.

Hi, I used your method for SM-N915FY, it's working with root permission, but every time I restart the wifi I need to insert again the password. This because the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf (that stores the password) is everytime ricreated when the wifi is again on. Do you have same problem? Thanks.

Sadly, yes. But it is the only unsolvable quirk I have noticed with the kernel change. Oddly, sometimes it DOES connect automatically after a reboot, but most times it does not. Perhaps a guru at XDA can take a crack at a possible solution. I will send a pm to mickey387 and see if he has a suggestion.
But it does not disconnect, which is good. You will have to reconnect only if you reboot, or poweroff/on the wifi manually.

Have you found other settings to be done to allow the phone to work in the best way?

Xposed?

Has anyone attempted to install xposed on the honor 8?
Yes, works. Arm64.
I can confirm, XPosed can be installed...
Albeit it seems to have a "small" bug - for me the dialer did stop working when xposed was installed (could not make any call)
V86 ARM64 xposed by rovio...
will need to investigate further.
Can anyone confirm/deny/did find a workaround?
I have xposed and dialer is working fine. Maybe it's some particular mod you've installed.
I tried installing xposed from this link http://dl-xda.xposed.info/framework/sdk23/arm64/ but I'm always getting a bootloop. Did you use another zip file?

For me, xposed did work using magisk + systemless xposed (material xposed intaller + v86.5); as well as using v86 - i think the version you posted.
I could revert my previous dialer problem by rebooting several times till all files have been treated by xposed as they should have been...

I confirm the 'Dialer' bug you're facing. I have faced the same bug on all of the Honor devices I have owned. Whenever I hit the 'Call' button, the app crashes. A simple reboot does fixes the problem but it soon re-appears. No fix for it though.

is this true or can i flash it on my newly rooted honor 8?

is it still possible to accept calls when the dialer is bugged and crashes?
also, which xposed version did you use?

About magisk,
you have to unroot your device from SuperSU. After that flash the stock boot image if available (unrooting from SuperSU usually suffices but if it doesn't works, it better to flash stock boot image)
About Xposed dialer bug (on EMUI only), yes as far as I know, I never experienced any crashes while accepting calls.

i feel extremely stupid here. i'm reading on the magisk thread and i don't understand at all.
i got a honor 8 (FRD-L09) and i've rooted it, like i mentioned earlier.
can you please help me with the steps i need to take to unroot and whatever else i need to do to flash magisk?
i can't find stock rom for my FRD-L09, so what do you suggest? just doing a full factory reset, flashing twrp, flashing magisk, rooting, restoring to the backup i create before doing the factory reset.
what do you think about those steps and in that order? if you think i need to change something or add another step please let me know.
not sure if that's enough to unroot the device, i'm also really uncertain about the correct magisk version/file i need to flash for my device. other xposed versions have different files for arm, arm64 and x86, but here there's only one file. am i missing something or does this work on all versions? or have i misunderstood how it works?
sorry about throwing so many questions at you but i'm really confused about this.

Take a complete backup just in case.
Perform a full unroot via SuperSU (find it in Settings). It will restore the modded files with the original ones hence reverting your boot image to the stock one.
Perform a full Factory reset. (remember to backup crucial data before attempting it)
Download B101 FRD-L09 stock ROM from here: http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.php?file=dload-honor-8-frdl09-frd-b101.zip
Extract the downloaded zip. There will be two folders, 'Part 1' and Part 2'. On your external SD card, create a folder 'dload'. Copy 'Update.APP' from 'Part 1' to the dload folder in your SD card. Power down the device. Hold Power Button + Volume Up + Volume Down buttons until you see the Honor logo. Your device will now automatically start installing the complete stock ROM. If in case your device boots to TWRP, then follow the below steps:
Download Huawei Update Extractor from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
Use Huawei Update Extractor to extract RECOVERY from the Update.APP inside 'Part 1'.
Use 'fastboot' to flash the stock recovery.
Now try installing the Update.APP. This time it will work. Repeat the steps for Update.APP inside 'Part 2'
You're now on fresh stock ROM.
Download magisk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=19960&task=get and flash it via TWRP.

thnx. i followed your steps, with a few added ones. i didn't realize that my bootloader would lock up again after flashing stock so i had to unlock it and reflash twrp.
i did wonder about the root since all phones have different root versions and he's offering a one for all version, but i flashed it and i now got working root.
still not done tho, still got to install the magisk manager and xposed
but thank you so much for you help, really felt like i was fumbling in the dark there for a moment before asking you lol
EDIT:
that it let's you turn the root on and off with a switch is ingenious. but what does it mean that google pay is not working while root is on?

Yes, while the root is on, all applications that include the 'SafetyNet' check will refuse to work (such as Android Pay, Pokemon Go). When you switch it off, everything will start to work again.

but yea, thnx a lot for you help and time
Does anyone have issues playing videos with magisk installed, and I mean the flashable magisk not just the magisk manager app

Not a perfect solution but try Flat Style Indicators.

There is a rule to check if modules will work flawlessly on your device or not. It's simple. All modules that were designed keeping AOSP in mind will not work. EMUI is a completely different iteration if Android and hence many of the options in Gravity Box will not work on EMUI.

Need original edge screen apk (cocktailbarservice) for N915F (Android 6.0.1)

Hi.
I accidentally updated my edge screen file from apkmirror . And now my edge screen is not working at all. Cocktailbarservice gives error all the time. So I need the original "Edge Screen apk (cocktailbarservice)" for my Note Edge/tbltexx (N915F). My Build Number N915FXXS1DQE1 and Baseband N915FXXU1DPC7. My phone is not rooted (not needed to be rooted for this apk to work anyway). My android version is 6.0.1.
Optional Question: Also I don't know how to root my Note Edge N915F. There are some threads on this forum and on the internet but they are pretty old. I don't know if they work or not. Because a lot of users encounter boot loops and brick phones. Anybody know the latest working root method for the note edge (N915F)?
Regards,
This is for 915G but should work. Nothing to lose by trying anyway http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/594915f4438c9/com.samsung.android.app.cocktailbarservice 1.zip

Thanks for the file much appreciated. Unfortunately I am not able to install it. It doesn't allow me to install it. The new version called "Edge Screen" but the old version called "Cocktailbar Service". So maybe I can uninstall/remove the newly installed "Edge Screen" and then try to install the old version of yours. But my phone needs to be rooted and I did not find a decent root method for the latest build or android 6.0.1.
Also how did you share your apk? Are you allowed to share your system apk without root? Or it is not needed to be rooted for sharing system apks?
Thanks for your reply anyway.
Yes I have root. 915G is easy to root. Am sure you can find root for 915F in these forums. Alternatively, if you dont want t do that, flash the stock rom (availale from sammoile or samfirm) using Odin. Again, lots of tutorials in the forums. That will take replace all your system apps with the original, including edge screen. You should not lose any data, but always backup first to be safe.
