[Q] Data Saver Mode and How to Uninstall it or Turn it Off? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have some trouble with emails on my Verizon edition Droid Maxx that Verizon nor Motorola can explain or fix. If I try to send over 10 megabytes whether it's PDF or pictures it tells me I can't do it until I connect to WiFi. I'm a realtor I send PDF files and I send pictures all the time. I'm in a rural area with no WiFi to be had. My phone is my WiFi most of the time so therefore I cannot send emails because of the data saver mode. There is no way to turn this off any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated....
Here is the link to the Droid X that had the option to turn it off.

BTW you can enable Car Dock Mode by using a Launcher like Apex. Hold home screen for two seconds then select Shortcuts. Now select Activities then scroll down to Motorola Car dock, expand then select ".main.CarDockMainActivity"

I don't think there is a data saver on 4.2.2 you can disable data you can set data limits if your not unlimited and you can have apps update over wifi only. But I can not find anything in settings that says data saver.

that's exactly my point. Verizon and Motorola didn't know how to turn it off. Go to the factory email app and tried to send something 12 megabytes in over pictures or anything and watch it stop you. And didn't have this trouble with the HTC droid DNA so I don't think it's Android I think it's Motorola. I really need some help with this because the Droid Maxx is hands down the best advice I've ever owned and I've had them all. If I can't get emails out then using this as a business device is going to be extremely hard to do

Are you using a gmail account?
Do you get the same behavior using the email app as the gmail app?

I get the same warning, but it gives me the option to either wait until on WiFi or send now. It goes through when I hit send now.

Are you sending to individuals or to your office?
If you just need to upload stuff to a place where others can find it, you could use Dropbox. You can even set it up so your photos are uploaded automatically. Use the link below to get an extra 500 megs for a new account: 2.5 gigs instead of two.

I would just let Gmail do the syncing of the other email account.

It's not a Gmail account. It's my IMAP account for work.

I send Contracts to the over 1000 different agents in Northwest Louisiana. Motorola and Verizon dont have a clue to how to turn this Data Saver Mode off. I let them both remote operate this phone and they are clueless.

Try receving a 12mb+ file and then try sending some.

Here is an example.

Listen. Try getting on a pc. In settings there's a way to add any email account and let Gmail manage it. Try this then send a test email from Gmail. Make sure the correct account is selected.

have you found a way to disable data saver mode
I recently got a droid ultra and am having nearly the same problems - Verizon is my wireless carrier. I send large attachments in emails from my phone - documents and pictures. I can only send at the very most 1 picture or about 1 to 1.5 mb. Verizon claims there is a limit set in my company exchange server. The administrator has removed all limits for all users and has restarted the server and we are still having the same problem. However I have been able to get a few messages to go through by constantly opening and closing outlook and resending it several times from the out box. However this doesn't always work - no consistency. I am also having nearly the same problem with MMS/SMS message's. If someone else sends me an email that has multiple large attachments I can forward it with no issues and no warning messages. At this point I have to use my gmail to send the email with large attachments to my company exchange email, then I can forward it without issue. This is not very handy.

Using K-9 mail, I do not have this problem. Tested with a 11MB file. I can test larger if you would like.
I use K-9 for both my gmail account and my account I host myself (imap).
Update: Went ahead and tested with a 39mb file attachment. Still goes through without prompting. Mail got bounced for being too large though (account I sent to bounced it, not my phone).

Push email is really bad on the HTC One X

Almost every message I get with the built in email app using Microsoft ActiveSync with my office Exchange server comes 5-10 minutes after the message's time-stamp. Coming from the iPhone 4S & Galaxy Nexus where every message was delivered within seconds, this is becoming a major concern. The GMail app is better (though not perfect) as messages usually arrive within a minute. I tried playing with the settings in the Email app and made sure that push was activated for both peak and off peak hours but the issues remains. Does anyone else have these issues and if so, is there any way to fix it? Thanks in advance.

I've struggled to fix this as well. The only advice i've gotten was to try a 3rd party app. I still have my e-mail setup on my old iPhone and my iPad, both get the e-mails pushed within a second of each other. My HOX can vary between 5-45 mins before it gets delivered. I have several exchange e-mails, all of them exhibit the same thing. I have a similar experience on my HP tablet that is running CM9. Judging by the number of threads that have complained about this, it seems that iOS simply handles Activesync better than Android. I'm still enjoying everything else about the HOX.

I really hope so, hopefully a fix can be found soon.
there is nothing to fix, it's a feature called SmartSync.
Go to Email setting, sync schedule change it Push, default is SmartSync.
More frequent you open email app, the more frequent the sync.
Check your sync settings. HTC uses a couple different things with Sync to improve battery life. One of them is peak hours. It'll push during "peak hours" and then switch to every 2 hours outside of them. They also have a smart-sync setting that I believe will sync more frequently in relation to how often you open and close the actual Mail app.
Check those settings first.
Thanks, i double checked everything and both peak and off peak are both set to Push. The phone isn't throwing any errors nor is exchange management console. I'll see how it performs today and give an update. So far this morning it has been pushing pretty consistently.
As I said in my OP, both peak and off-peak are set to push and NOT smartsync. That's not the issue.
I've gotten it to recieve @ about 5 minutes but that's as good as it gets for now...
side note I've gotten some really good LTE numbers in ATL... 42mbps
Go and get Touchdown in the market.
Problem solved.
I had to disable the Gmail app completely for my Gmail account to work with Microsoft exchange through the email app.
It was giving me errors with my syncing but I had to use google due to the play store etc.

Yeah I'm having problems with my gmail account as well. When I check to see if its synced it shows a red circle and apparently the sync isn't working so it's not just about push email its the syncing to google account. Not sure what the problem is. Im thinking it has something to do with the WiFi connection. It might break and its causing interruption in the sync

I'm going to try leaving it on LTE for a little while...I have a feeling it might be an issue with the Wifi connection when the screen is off.
I'm experiencing a delay, as well. It's almost like Smartsync is still on even when it's off. My delays have been in the realm of a minute in most cases, but it's frustrating to hear new e-mails come in on my iPad and other phones and have this one get them last. It's such a great phone and this is such an important feature.
Quick update...If you go to your advanced wifi settings there is an option for Best Wifi Performance that is off by default. Since I enabled that, my push notifications seem to be coming in more quickly. I need to give it some more time to know for sure but so far so good!

This is what I did. So far, it's working 100%.
Please know, this will only work if you DON'T use the Gmail app.
1. Factory wiped the phone. Once started up, do not add your Google account yet.
2. Go into Settings and Apps and disable all your bloatware while you're here and make sure you disable the Gmail app. When you get out of it, it'll reload Sense. After this, go ahead and reboot your phone to be safe.
3. Now go ahead and go to Settings and Accounts and add your Google account. With Gmail disabled, it will not sync your email. Your choice if you want to sync Contacts.
4. Next, setup your Gmail via Microsoft Exchange via server method. Email and Username is your full email address. Leave Domain blank. The server address is m.google.com
5. When finished, set it up Push Email and not Smart Sync. If you did not sync your Contacts via Google, you can do it here also. Same with Calendar and Tasks.
Done!

I think you might actually be onto something. So far, I have been getting e-mails pretty consistently after modifying this setting. It will be interesting to see how much it impacts battery life.

K-9 is not working for me, but Gmail is. haven't tried changing anything yet, just hopped on to see.
Really need some reliable push email. Might ditch K-9 and see if the native client works, but k-9 worked so great on the SGS2, I went to it straight away.
I'm also having push problems using the native gmail app. I posted in the other thread so won't repeat here but just wanted to check in in case somebody from HTC or att is reading these threads.

Help - Exchange emails not fully displaying

Peculiar problem, did some searching and there is very little out there. A small percentage (~10%) of my Exchange emails only load the first few lines of text and I don't get the option to load more details - i.e. I can't read more than a few lines of the email.
1) It occurs when there is an attachment or image involved, generally from a forwarded email.
2) I have tried changing fetching images on/off, and changing 'size to receive emails' to 'all'. Does not make a difference.
3) This is the VERY strange part: If I forward the email (that I can't fully view) to myself from my phone, I am able to view that newly forwarded message in it's entirety.
What on earth could be causing this? It is driving me CRAZY since I am very dependent on my phone for work. Would appreciated any input - thanks!
Other info:
Our Exchange email is hosted via InterMedia - I had zero problems with my DX. I also have an iPad that works seamlessly and my coworker has a DMAXX (running ICS) that works fine too. I'm 90% sure this is a phone issue and not a problem with the server.
I would try clearing the data in your email app and setting up your account again to see if that helps. Otherwise maybe a factory reset would help. There are not any settings in the program that really apply to your issue. Back when I had an s2 my exchange just wouldn't load any emails.. then I updated to ics and email worked fine again. May be a chance this version of mail conflicts with your server as well. I say try clearing data then if not factory reset.

I had a similar problem. I had to change the text color and background color for the text to display again. For example I changed text to black and once I did that it was visible again. Eventhough the setting said it was black it was still displaying white.
Hope this helps.

I would just try a factory reset. When I was talking about clearing data I meant from the manage applications menu in settings. Usually when you clear cache you can still clear data too, that would make it to where you would have to set up the email again.

Update - issue is still occurring, even after a wipe. Also it's not just with forwarded emails, received an original message this morning with the same problem.
Is anyone else having this problem? I called Samsung directly - they were worthless and told me to download a 3rd party email app - are you effing kidding me??? I've also spoken with InterMedia and they assured me it's not an issue on their end, but if NO ONE else is experiencing this, maybe it is something with my office's config. I just dont understand why the 2 other ICS devices we have work fine with it...
Having the same issue as you. It's not every email and it's not just forwards or emails with images in the body of the email. Wish we could find a resolution as it's a pain to have to go back to my laptop just to finish reading an email.

I had this problem. The cause (for me) was the Power Saving feature in the OS has an option to change the background color in email and internet to save power. This setting seems to override changing the background color from within the email application itself. Try turning off this feature in the Power Saving module or turning off the Power Saving Module and see if it works. I can't remember, but I believe it only fixed new incoming emails.
I thought the same about the Power Saving feature but I do not have power saving turned on and the issue is still there.
I don't either - do you have a hosted exchange or internal exchange sever? I am so beyond frustrated. So ironic that verizon locks the bootloader to provide better customer service, they too told me to download a 3rd party app.

We host our exchange server. It is odd because the problem you are describing was the exact same problem I was having with mine. I even adjusted the preview text for each email to 3 lines so I could read at least that much. I would be happy to share my email settings on my phone for my exchange account if you think it might help.
No I don't think it will help - I am 99% sure this is a Samsung issue considering you are experiencing the same thing on your own exchange server as my InterMedia hosted one. Argh, just got another incomplete email! Try forwarding the email to yourself (using the same account, to the same account) you should be able to view it that way.
I am going to try K-9 in the mean time.
Please call Samsung, the more people that have this issue the sooner they're hopefully fix it: 1-800-726-7864 - explain that you're not the only one, they thought I was crazy

Sorry, but like I said adjusting the power saving options fixed my issue. I noticed the cause of the issue because if I went to highlight where the text should be it showed up. For some reason some of the settings were displaying white text on a white background instead of white text on a black background. Very weird. Hope you get it figured out.....
We host our own exchange server as well. Never had an issue with any other phone I've had (OG Droid, HTC Incredible, DroidX, HTC Thunderbolt). Seems to be an issue with just this phone. Seems as if on other forums users are experiencing the same...can't post links as I haven't met my 10 posts yet. Some are saying Samsung are aware and supposed to fix it in an upcoming OTA.

(Q) native email app

ok so o hope this is in the right spot. i have a rooted SR on stock rom, unlocked on t mobile and all of a sudden i am having issues with the native email app not sending yahoo mail. i did nothing, down loaded nothing, no weird reboots nothing. all i get is that the email could not be sent and moved to my drafts. i have deleted and reset up my email and still nothing. i also rebooted my phone and nothing. has any one had or having issues or is it just me and my phone?
Try removing the account and setting it back up using the "other" option instead of choosing yahoo.

sounds like you're not getting internet to the phone or the outgoing settings are wrong. verify internet. and check the outgoing mail server settings haven't changed on yahoo's end.

How would I go about doing this? It's seems all the other functions that require Internet work fine. I also have no problems, well few problems receiving email. I have it set to push and for the most part get email regularly. It's just the sending that's become an issue. It sends every once in a while but usually get the error.

I just tried "other" and it won't let me set it up. I Googled the settings but they must have changed since March? I can find any settings newer than that, maybe some one has some newer settings they can provide?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
ok it seems there is a new protocol on the yahoo servers, adding "android.imap.mail.yahoo.com" and some other changes. if i set it manually it works. the only thing is that i need it to be pushed not poled. the only option in "other" is to check every 15 mins. how would i go about getting the automatic email set up to recognize this new change and let me set up my email as push?
Try adding it back under yahoo and see if there is any option to modify server settings. I don't think you can choose manual set up like with other but may be able to modify settings after its added. If not, could try the yahoo mail app in the playstore it may have a push option. I don't have a Yahoo account so I've never used it but might be worth checking out.

Seems that if you reply to the same person too many times in the same email thread the system makes it as spam and requires a captcha for sending. Well since a phone can't see that, it fails to send. So now I have to wait 24 hours to reset and see if that fixes things. Thanks guys

[Q] monitoring app for rooted phone

I rooted my phone and my wife's. She's been hiding things and deleting messages and sending off pics of herflself and deleting them. I tried using a recovery app. But is there something that I can install on her phone that's will stay hidden so I can monitor what it is she is up to? Something that will save the text logs and pictures. Or activate her front facing camera. GPS... I want to make sure I have all the evidence I would need to confront her. This happened in the past as well and I didn't have enough proof. She played it off like I was the crazy one.
I've searched but figured some experts would point me in the right direction. Hoping to save my marrage before its too late.
Thanks.
Well for finding old picrures, theres diskdigger app. Uhm... Besides that, idk

I used dr phone and it took so long and it kept showing all the current pics and not just the deleted ones . wasn't until I used discdigger that I found what I was looking for. but being the free version it didn't search for much. and hard to view everything ion the little screen, and it requires me to have her phone for long periods of time.
I know there has to be something out there I can install once and get the info sent to my phone or pc.
since I only have small windows of time to have her phone(when shes sleeping) I practice on my phone. install what apps I wanty to use and try them so I know what it is im doing when I get the chance.
a keylogger would be a start but I want to know what texts are coming in as well.
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but recently when my phone broke and I still had to text people; I went to the Verizon wireless website, under 'My Verizon' is a tab called 'Send a message', enter your wife's phone number followed by her account password, and then it should be empty if this is the first time opening this. From here you can send and receive messages. After your initial login, all messages will be stored. It shows deleted as well. Finally, if you do happen to send a text from this online, sent messages will not show on her phone. Beware as she will still receive the incoming texts.
-Hope this helped! Good luck with your searching

Gmail sync problems

I bought Moto G 2015 three weeks ago, and phone has been upgraded to MM on first day of use.
I used Galaxy S3 for many years before and never had gmail sync problems, but now I have.
The problem appears in no push message that I have new gmail emails. Only when I open Gmail app or sync manually, I can see new emails.
I have many apps installed, such as Viber, Facebook Messenger, Mail.ru (another email client), all messages from them are recieved immediately. The problem is only with Google.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there some solution of this? All that could be done was done. I loose all hope to fix it.

For some stupid reason this is the default behavior of Gmail...
Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Google and turn the slider on for Gmail, should be good after that. Sometimes have to press the overflow menu and select "Sync Now" to sort of jump start it.

Of course I have Gmail slider on all time.
I send email from PC to myself and CC to my wife -- wife's phone notifies about new email immediatelly, but my moto G can keeps silence for many hours (or days?).

Had to ask... Many people have noted that is off by default, depends how you setup your device in the wizard.
I assume you have cleared caches, cleared data on Gmail, tried removing updates and reinstalling them, etc?

Yes, I did all of this abovementioned things.
I just added gmail account to another email client (mail.ru), and tried to send several emails to myself -- notifications come momentally!
It turns out that is someting wrong with gmail app? But the same version works good on wife's phone.
I've had this issue intermittently as well. It did not occur with 5.1.1. Seems to be a bug introduced with Marshmallow. I cleared the data of the Gmail app and that seems to have mostly cured it for now.
bug or feature? i had the same issue...
a battery saver function seems to be the culprit for me
settings > battery > menu > battery optimization
turn optimization off for gmail
it went back to getting mail that shows up in the middle of the nite
[i turned the battery saver off and still get good life
but i'm not using the phone for much now...]
I cleared cache of gmail, rolled back to firmware version, turned off battery optimization for gmail -- nothing helps me.
But yesterday I installed many others email clients, which work with gmail -- EVERY of them notifies about new emails monentally, but not gmail. And EVERY of them has battery optimization turned on..
Could this be related to Doze mode? When in Doze mode synchronizations are "dozed" and can be delayed up to 30 minutes, typically 5-10 though... Didn't even think of that

I send email to myself when phone is not in Doze mode, and there is no any notification. But others email clients work perfectly.

It seems that I resoved the problem!
Apps -- google play services -- manage data -- clear all data
Since I did this, I have every new email notification and sync! I tried to find solution all this time.
Battery optimization is on for gmail and all work as it should right now.
I hope.
Happiness was short. In a hour I send ti myself email and didn't receive notification. Went to google account sync settings and there was exclamation mark near gmail. Pressed to sync mannually and new email has come.
That's definitely problem with Google sync..
Nothing remains, but must install other email client.
