I also introduced a 4-way reboot
(you should install Busybox from market, since I was too lazy to add this to the rom)

ok, wait a moment... What's the [PHONE] tag about?
Just look at this...
I enabled the SecPhone.apk in framework-res.apk.
So, before you ask me if it can make and/or receive calls I'll answer you:
NO, it doesn't. Or, at least, not now.
You can only dial USSD codes.
I really don't know if it's possible to make standard calls, since the device hasn't a GSM modem, even if I know there are some mobile operators which only work in 3G mode for exemple H3G in Italy).
I also saw some videos where people demonstrated they can make standard calls with a 3G-only modem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRF2cCFehRQ
So, making and receiving standard phone calls, even if only in 3G mode, SHOULD BE POSSIBLE.
I just don't know how to enable this functionality (pretty sure that's a modem issue)
To enable Phone app flash this through CWM

If you have any suggestion about making or receiving calls feel free to PM me, or make a post in this thread. We need some investigation!
And don't forget to press the THANKS button!

4 way reboot doesn't work. Same menu, but now random reboots. Besides, the sound menu shouldn't be removed completely. I don't use it, but its good not to take stock options away.
Edit: I got the menu to come up, but I couldn't use the 4-way and phone mods together. It also made my "Just Once" and "Always" launch options "Phone" and "Headphone" with a reboot every time I tried to open the status bar drawer.

All the mods have been tested only on the image.zip I posted. So yes, you've to install it first. Then busybox, and finally flash the 4 way reboot zip.
P.S.: any suggestions about making standard calls work?

That makes no sense. I need to install the full ROM you posted, then busybox, then the mod zip, then reconfigure my entire build just to get a 4-way reboot menu? That is more work than modding my own.
P.S.: VOIP

The thing which makes no sense is that you want to install the 4 way reboot mod without to consider you're writing in a XXBMC4 deodexed rom thread. So, if you want to make it work, you MUST be on any XXBMC4 deodexed rom.
P.S.: not everyone could afford a 3G data plan and subscribe a VOIP contract. If I enabled the phone dialer is just because I want to make standard calls, not VOIP calls.

What makes your version different than a stock deodexed XXBMC4 with busybox already installed?
I have the wifi only, so I don't have 3g at all and can make calls. Voip is the protocol not the service. If you don't have service, you can't make calls. Using Google Voice, you can use the standard applications, but you can't just start making calls with no service provider.
Sent from my EK-GC110 using Tapatalk 4

Enabling phone is simply replacing the false with true for has_voice in the res/values/bools.xml, but did you also change has_sms? Seems that would be equally useful, since there is an SMS over GV app, too.

I'm trying to understand what modem this thing is using. (I don't have one.)
Could someone send me a dd extraction of the the RADIO partion #10 (?) or directly from firmware extraction? It should be called modem.bin. I think there a different ways of enabling phone (calls)...

Here u are, I made this flashable zip. This modem comes from GC100XXBMC4_GC100ITVBLL1_GC100XXBMC3_HOME.tar.md5 on which the rom in this thread is based.

Great! So your modem belong to the Intel XMM6260 chipset (modem + RF front-end). (The modem is X-GOLD 626, and often labeled "XG626", while the front end is SMARTi UE2 or 3.
Code:
[SIZE=2]SP6260_20.02_M1S1
...
SP6260_SUPERIOR_03.1308_DB130219 2013-Mar-18 10:53:01
GC100XXBMC3[/SIZE]
The first 4 pages of my signature thread is designated to the AT commands used in this type of modems. The firmware above, is the first new one I have looked at since Intel bought Infineon. The same info above, can be obtained by AT+XGENDATA.
Now, this is not immediately going to help you get phone functionality, but at least we'll be able to know something about the RF chipset and firmware. Depending how the reminder of the RF chips are setup, we could start speculating about what would happen if we were flashing a very similar modem firmware. (Perhaps something found in an Exynos based GT-I9300?)
^ DON'T DO THIS!
But if the Camera does support phone calls, it is not necessarily disabled in modem firmware, but rather in some NV data somewhere else, or both. This is very tricky... (At least I don't know how to read/extract and interpret XMM/Exynos NV data.)

If you're saying that you wanna make GSM calls, then this whole story depend on the RF-front-end components. We're talking SAW filters and antenna switches etc. Since I'm yet to see any good high-res internal pictures of this camera, I cannot answer if these components are there.
I posted this thread long time ago asking for this.
[HW][DEV] Internal Pictures Please
PS. The YouTube video of enabling 3G calls in your OP, is for a Huawei 3G USB stick. These are normally completely different from what you have here, and thus that video doesn't mean anything, unfortunately.

Assumably, on the 3G versions of the camera they are missing vital parts, but unless Samsung was EXTREMELY lazy and VERY generous in their hardware design, they were most likely removed in the Wifi version (GC110) and the methods are most likely stubs in both, as software is easier / no more expensive to design once and leave extra parts in. That is likely why I have the AT&T kernel installed without any issues, but all that aside, there would still need to be a way to activate service, which most carries will likely deny.
Edit: I'm not saying it would hurt to look, but its nothing to dedicate too much effort into.

I already did that when I was experimenting on 4.1.1. I flashed various I9300 modem for 4.1.1 and the result was that the carrier name displayed, but I couldn't use my sim card (no sms, no internet, no calls).
I haven't already tested i9300 4.1.2 modems with this GC100 4.1.2 rom, but the result should be the same.
I read in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 forum they enabled the phone functionality flashing the I9103XXLQ3 modem over stock 4.0.4 rom. Would something like that work for us? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875024

I don't want to enable GSM calls since that means we would need a 2G modem built in the galaxy camera. And we haven't it, right?
I'm just looking at enabling standard calls on the only network we have (3G)

Nevermind, I think I have them reversed. The 100 should be the one I can mod, the 110 is wifi, and the 120 should be CDMA, which would need a software change instead of a firmware modification.
Edit: Anyway, it's going to require editing the NVRAM with a donor phone to get calling since it is a CAMERA, but I have a tutorial to get it done.

HTC Desire CDMA (BravoC) Thread
I wanted to create this thread to show that there are CDMA Desire users that there are users that want to help ourselves, and we need more ROMs! With the addition of 1.06 HBOOT Desire's being able to be rooted now, there is a large influx of these users new to rooting.
Most of the content was rewritten by me, but I must give thanks to the XDA Forums, Cyanogenmod Forum, Team US Cellular Forums, MIUI forums, and 2fast ROMS! This took a while to put together for me!
Of course, thanks to fllash for the Desire Index thread and for being awesome, but with the influx of CDMA users, it's time to branch off slightly.
This was written by a US Cellular user, but most information is for all CDMA phones. I have owned both a 0.98 HBOOT and a 1.06 HBOOT device.

Tips
ROM List

Tips for CDMA Users:
Red comments are by 2fast4u88
Blue comments are rebuttals by me.
Most things in this forum are for GSM users, the CDMA Desire was added a year ago but never got an official forum on XDA.
Your phone is CDMA if you do not have a SIM card port by your SD card.
CDMA users do not need to worry about radio's as much as GSM users do. Most CDMA desire's only have 1 or 2 different radio's depending on the carrier.
It is recommended to not mix h-boots and radios. Use the radio with the right h-boot. The newer radio's have better battery life. The older radio's have better signal strength
Don't worry people, I haven't seen a ROM that updated your radio without specifying it very well before you download!
CDMA users do not need to use different HBOOT images for ROMs.
Gsm roms do not need h-boots. All the modded h-boots are for is for memory like cmtd does for us.
Backup your APNs!
You do not need to backup your apn list when the rom dev supply's the zips to flash.
Not all ROM devs supply this unfortunately, and it's always useful to have one just in case, especially with easy apps like APNs Backup & Restore!
There is no Gingerbread Sense ROM for CDMA users yet. Official Gingerbread for the Desire will not have Sense built in due to the limited space on the Desire's memory.
Gingerbread update will have sense but with some stuff downloadable last I heard. Even the the uscc desire will not have it along with probably other carriers. Uscc made it public one update per device.
Yeah, unfortunately it's not likely to happen for us CDMA users.
If you do any fixes to your phone like repairing your 3G service (detailed below for USCC members) or getting your MSL Number, you must do so on a Sense ROM with EPST.apk, which most Sense ROMs have. Keep a backup of your original ROM! The official 2.3 update should fix this problem, but no guarantees.
What are you even talking about here in all honesty? There is no issue flashing anything that I am aware to break 3g?
On the Cyanogenmod forums, a lot of people happen to ask about lost 3G service for US Cellular, and many of these people are roaming. I've had this happen to me and found the official fix by the USCC Roaming Tech Support. Guide added to the third post!
If you ever ask for support, specify you're a CDMA user and your carrier.
Use BravoC recoveries, not Bravo!
If you need more space for apps, use either App2SD, Data2SD/EXT, CMTD, or for CM7: S2E from the market.
This a problem a little bit and bugs me everytime I see it. Skuddy is the only one to use data2sd. All the other roms running what is to be called data2sd is a knock of of darktremors apps2sd+ with out dalvik moved. Also every rom has one built in so using a app to do it is going to cause issues.
The market app S2E seems to be a universal Cyanogenmod addon that works on most devices. I personally use and love it.
DO A NANDROID BACKUP
Only needed for having a backup of sense. If you have a ruu it isn't needed. You can of course due backups of a rom if you want but isn't needed everytime. I don't waist my time with backup's anymore.
Yes, but it's good practice for those who are just starting, as they're very likely to miss a step when flashing a ROM, or trying out CMTD for the first time.

Rooting Guides
DISABLE HTC SYNC ON YOUR PC
THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY, at least software wise. Insurance should still cover physical damage I believe.
-------------------------------------------
How to root HBOOT 0.98:
To make this easier, create a new folder on your desktop (or wherever you prefer) to hold everything. Let's name it Rooting.
Download unrEVOked: http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
If you're on Windows, you'll need special drivers. Linux and Mac user's have it easy for this one.
When I rooted my first Desire, they instructed to install HTC Sync then uninstalling it, which keeps the drivers on your system. While some say these drivers aren't the best ones, they will most likely work anyway.
You must also install the unrEVOked HBOOT drivers located here: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
You can either follow the guide in the link above, or follow this one:
Driver Download (WINDOWS ONLY): http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/lib/e...unrevoked.com/recovery/android-usb-driver.zip
New recovery (ClockworkMod 4.0.1.0 by 2fast4u88): http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=40
Open the zip and place the recovery image in the folder like pictured below.
{

}
1) If on Windows: Unzip the contents of the driver zip file into a folder inside the folder we're using to keep everything together. Let's rename this folder to Android HBOOT Driver. Download the UnrEVOked program and place into the rooting folder. Save the recovery to the same folder.
2) Turn off the phone and make sure it's unplugged. Hold down the Volume Down button first, then hold the power button. You should see 3 Androids on the bottom of the screen, you are now in HBOOT. It will check your SD card whenever it goes in here, so don't worry if it takes a second.
3) Make sure your HBOOT is 0.98, the second line of text should say something like HBOOT-0.98. If it is 1.06, check the other guide.
4) Plug in your phone. If you're on Linux or Mac, skip the rest of this step. Windows will look for a driver and likely fail, and your phone should say HBOOT USB PLUG. We will now install the driver. Make sure you're an administrator on your computer! Click on the Start button and right click on Computer, then click on Manage. A window will open, and click on Device Manager on the left hand side. (OR just search for Device Manager in the search bar). Look for Other Devices, expand the list and you'll see Android 1.0. Right click on this and choose Update Driver Software, click browse and find the folder you extracted your driver files to. You'll get a warning about unsupported drivers and clikc Yes/OK. You should now see Android Phone at the top with an entry named Android Bootloader Interface. It is recommended to restart your PC after this. Might want to bookmark this thread and return!
5) Now unplug your phone and turn if off (Pull out the battery or use the Volume Buttons and Power button to navigate the menu to select fastboot, then select reboot). Once rebooted, go to your home screen and press Menu and choose settings. Go to Connect to PC, select Default connection type, select Charge only and uncheck Ask me.
6) Go back to settings, choose Applications, select Development, and check USB Debugging, and go back to Applications and check the Unknown Sources.
7) Run reflash_package.exe and select custom recovery, and select recovery-bravoc-3.0.2.8.img.
8) Plug in your phone and start the process. Your phone will reboot a few times, DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE. Wait until unrEVOked says done! You should be rooted,S-OFF, and custom recovery! Install Titanium Backup from the market to make sure your phone is rooted then follow the Backup Guide! Backup your APNs as listed below!
-------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
How to root HBOOT 1.06:
To make this easier, create a new folder on your desktop (or wherever you prefer) to hold everything. Let's name it Rooting.
Download AlphaRevX Beta: http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/
Keep this page open, because while running the program you'll need to generate a key.
Clockworkmod 4.0.1.0 by 2fast4u88 Fastboot Recovery Image A.K.A. PB99IMG for ClockworkMod: http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=40
Extract the zip file and place PB99IMG.zip like pictured below.
If you're on Windows, make sure to install the Windows drivers provided on the page or get them from here: http://www.multiupload.com/2OFYWZFCCR
1) Turn off the phone and make sure it's unplugged. Hold down the Volume Down button first, then hold the power button. You should see 3 Androids on the bottom of the screen, you are now in HBOOT. It will check your SD card whenever it goes in here, so don't worry if it takes a second. Make sure you have HBOOT 1.06 and you have S-ON. If your Desire has S-OFF, skip to step 7.
2) Unzip the AlphaRevX file into a folder inside the rooting folder and name it AlphaRevX. Place the other 2 files in the rooting folder.
3) Install the HTC Drivers, it should be fairly easy to follow its instructions.
4) Go to your home screen and press Menu and choose settings. Go to Connect to PC, select Default connection type, select Charge only and uncheck Ask me. Go back to settings, choose Applications, select Development, and check USB Debugging, and go back to Applications and check the Unknown Sources.
5) Plug in your phone, and run AlphaRevX. Go back to the AlphaRevX download page and enter in the details provided to you. Copy the serial number, and right click paste into the window. If right click doesn't work, right click the top left icon in the window, choose Edit>Paste. Hit enter, and it should follow the process. It will reboot your phone, DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE UNTIL IT IS SAFE.
6) Once completed, your phone should be rooted and S-OFF, but not recovery. Close AlphaRevX and install Titanium Backup from the market to see if you have root, and follow the Backup guide after finishing the next few steps. In case you're just S-OFF, but no root access, you have two options: Try SuperOneClick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 Or Try unrEVOked found in the 0.98 HBOOT Guide.
7) Now we must install custom recovery, place the PB99IMG.zip file onto the the SD card, do not place it into a folder. Once copied, unplug your phone and turn it off. Go back into HBOOT by holding down Volume Down and then the Power button. This time, when it does its scan, it will find the PB99IMG.zip file. It should say Press Volume Up to apply update or something like that. Your phone will reboot normally, and then remove PB99IMG.zip from your SD card. Finally, turn off your phone again, boot into HBOOT and select recovery, and you should see ClockworkMod 3.0.2.8 boot up. Finally you are done with the rooting process!

Backup Guide
There are many processes to backup your phone. We can divide these processes into 2 categories:
DATA BACKUP and NANDROID BACKUP
Data backups are backups of certain things such as Apps, Data, Text messages, and even system preferences.
-------------------------------------------
Nandroid backups are backups of everything on the phone, from every partition of SYSTEN, DATA, BOOT, SD-EXT, CACHE, and .ANDROID_SECURE. This is a byte-for-byte copy of everything on your phone (and if you have a partitioned SD Card).
System is your phone's ROM area, holding the internal components of the ROM and the built in apps.
Data is the area where applications and app data is kept if not installed to the SD Card.
Boot is the ROM's boot image. You will have very little interaction with this.
SD-EXT is on your SD Card, standing for SD EXT Partition. EXT2/3/4 is a file system used by linux (which android uses) and can be used to store data. Commonly used for Apps2SD or Data2SD/Data2EXT.
Cache is the area on your phone that data is temporarily written to, like web page content and app data.
.Android_secure is used for the normal Android Apps to SD system. Some apps keep data on your sd card.
Before you EVER DO ANYTHING like flashing another ROM, or try a modification like Data2SD or other ROM modifying scripts, DO A NANDROID BACKUP. This is the most important thing you'll ever need in case soemthing goes wrong.
-------------------------------------------
Data backups are backups of parts inside the phone, and certain parts such as user apps and app data can be applied to whatever ROM you use. Say you are going from your Stock Sense ROM and you want to try Cyanogenmod, but you don't want to replay all your games like Plants Vs Zombies and Angry Birds. Using an app like Titanium Backup, you can backup the app and all of its data and restore it on another ROM like nothing happened.
Data backups can even include things like ringtone settings, text messages, preferences, and contact data.
If you care about anything like those on your phone, you should do a weekly backup.
-------------------------------------------
Nandroid backups are completed by your recovery image. Say you want to do a Nandroid backup on Clockworkmod, you simply boot into recovery, select Backup and Restore, and choose Backup (make sure you have enough space on your SD card, such as 1GB free). The process will copy everything on your phone and place into a folder on your SD card, and you can restore these backups any time you like.
Data backups are done by certain apps. Titanium Backup and My Backup (Normal or Pro) are the common suggestions. Titanium Backup has been around forever and works great, but My Backup will also backup other things like text messages, call logs, and other core phone features. I personally use Titanium Backup, SMS Backup and Restore (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore His other apps are useful as well).
-------------------------------------------
Titanium Backup Guide
Once you are rooted and install Titanium Backup, if you're on Stock ROM, open up Titanium Backup, and hit the Problems? button in the bottom center. There should be a Upgrade or install Superuser button, which is required for many root options and required for backing up! Install it!
For a quick and easy app backup, just go to Titanium Backup and hit Menu, then select batch. Find the Backup all user apps + system data option with the button that says RUN in black. Hit Run the batch operation at the top, and make sure you have enough space on your SD card, around 200mb. It will now start the backup and complete in a few minutes. The more apps, the more time it takes.
When you install your new ROM, install Titanium backup (Superuser is built into most custom ROMS) and hit menu, Batch. Find Restore missing apps + all system data. Some ROM apps will clash, like camera and dialer, so uncheck those and reinstall them manually.
-------------------------------------------
One of the most important things to do is to backup your APNs. APNs are what allow for picture messaging/MMS and in some cases internet browsing. This app will streamline the process: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.APNBackupRestore
Simply backup the APNs from your stock ROM and restore them onto any ROM you'd like.
If you must remake your APN and you are on a US Cellular Desire, this should help you:
http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=60
I would suggest making a Sense APN backup and a non-Sense APN backup and restore one to whichever ROM you're using.

Returning to Stock (US Cellular users)
So say your phone screen cracked somehow, like your girlfriend had it in her lap, and she got out of the car. Concrete + perfect angle + force of gravity = cracked glass. (I still love her don't worry)
Hopefully you have insurance on your phone, and the software works fine and the touch screen works.
For those returning it, you should definitely flash back to the stock ROM or apply the 2.2 Update. This will not S-ON your phone, but it likely won't matter.
To do this, proceed to http://www.htc.com/us/support/desire-uscellular/downloads/ and follow its instructions for installing the update. However, many people have problems with this, but don't worry, I found out how to install the update without the program working.
1) Download the update and open the executable file. It will unpack the files to the temporary directory (%temp%) but we can find this easily. After opening it and waiting for it to complete unpacking, open your task manager and find either ARUWizard.exe or ISBEW64.exe. Right click on one of these files, click Open File Location. Find rom.zip, which should be about 163mb. Copy this into a folder of your choosing, like Rooting/Stock Froyo.
2) Do a Nandroid Backup on your phone!
3) Rename the rom.zip into PB99IMG.zip and place onto your SD Card of your phone.
4) Reboot into HBOOT (Hold Volume Down and Power) and it should find it with seconds, but will take a minute to load.
5) Apply the update, and you should be back to Stock Froyo. Your HBOOT will be 1.06, but you will be S-OFF still. They most likely won't care.
Optional steps!
6) Say you're on US Cellular, and need to send it back to Assurant Solutions, the insurance carrier of US Cellular. You will need a $100 deductable payment. They should send your new Desire in the mail pre-loaded with Froyo, along with a return envelope. Take out your SD card of your old phone, and place your old phone in the envelope.
7) Take your new phone and activate it by calling 888-944-9400 on another phone or Google Voice on the desktop, follow the menu to talk to a representative by dialing zero as your last step. Make sure to have the ESN DEC number of the new phone (Under the phone or on the box), the last 4 digits of the account holder's Social Security Number, and of course the phone number.
8) The person you speak to will activate the phone and ask you to dial *228 to update the PRL, which will take about 2 minutes. Say thanks to the helpful representatives!
9) Follow the rooting guide for HBOOT 1.06, restore ClockworkMod, (optionally nandroid the stock ROM), and restore the update for your previous ROM.
10) Go get a good protective case for your phone and KEEP IT ON.

Lost USCC 3G/1x Fix
For some reason, for a select few users, they lose 3G service, and in some cases 1x all together! If this happens to you, don't fret! USCC Tech Support is great, just don't tell them that you're rooted. In most cases, these fixes are only avaliable for Sense ROMs, because EPST.apk is a Sense-Framework only tool that handles core functions of the phone, such as programming the number and other items. If you need to call tech support, flash a Sense ROM or the best case: your stock ROM. Keep a Nandroid restore set of your stock rom backup up on your computer or dropbox just in case this happens. This is the official fix they gave me.
While attending college 100 miles away from all US Cellular Towers, my 3G lost service. When you roam on a USCC device, you're bouncing off of Verizon towers, and sometimes they block your device for some reason. Not even Tech Support always knows why. I had them send me the fix since I had to run to class, and I noticed on the Cyanogenmod forums a lot of people lose their data signal, so I shared it for them.
[COLOR="#FF00000"]YOU MUST DO THIS ON A SENSE ROM, STOCK IS PREFERRED. ROOTED OR NOT.
CALL TECH SUPPORT FIRST, THEY'LL GIVE YOU YOUR SUBLOCK CODE AND GUIDE YOU THROUGH THIS.[/COLOR]
You can find your Sublock code (MSL) by getting the MSL Reader app from market and running it on your stock ROM.
When finished, make sure your data works, and then you can boot back into whatever ROM you'd like.
HTC Desire
1. Press "Phone," dial ##778#.
2. The screen will display EPST "View Mode," "Edit Mode," Select "Edit Mode."
3. Enter the SUBLOCK code, press "Ok."
4. The screen will show about 20 different fields.
5. Tap on "Modem Settings."
6. Tap on "Preferred Mode.
7. Tap on “CDMA Only”, Press "OK".
8. Tap on "HDR Hybrid Preferred."
9. Tap on "Disable". Press "OK."
10. Press the "Menu" button at bottom of phone.
11. Tap on Commit Modifications.
12. Press OK to reset device.
13. The phone will reboot and "1X" will appear at the top. . Your customer should now be able to access data.
14. When the customer returns to our coverage area, go through the same process and reselect "Automatic" in the "Preferred Mode" and "Enable" in the "HDR Hybrid Preferred."

great thread, we needed something like this for us unloved cdma users. its good to have all the cdma stuff in one place for everyone to access.
Wow! Thundersense is not one im familar with..
http://2fastroms.com/viewforum.php?f=23
Add those to the roms. Sleeksense is the only froyo rom with working undervolt and faster than any of the other sense roms also.
Added a couple of those that seem to be updated the most. Also, since you know your ROMs, what is your explanation on why we don't have CDMA Gingerbread Sense ROMs?
Change the miui links as my forum has the most up to date miui's since myself and skuddy does them for miuiandroid.
As for why we don't have gingerbread sense. It would probably be because we don't have a leak. No leak no kernel. No source no kernel made easy.

So I'm guessing there's no way to port the GSM leaked kernel? After all, the EVO 4G uses the same processor, or does this factor other things like the built in memory and others?
any way we can help get the kernel out faster? like email htc once a day asking about a kernel source for the desire?

Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen. Then again we'll never know until we try. Still doubt it though.
um, probably a stupid question but at http://developer.htc.com/ it shows the us cellular desire having the source code, though it says eclair im guessing that is not what we need?
Correct. We want a Froyo or Gingerbread Kernel.
Even though a phone has the same cpu doesn't mean a thing. The kernel controls more than a cpu. Like anything setup on the board. The cdma and gsm has a difference in the board. Which our phones really are not all that common to the gsm.
Though the difference between a gsm and cdma kernel source isn't all that different. Just stuff missing in the gsm source. I believe the gsm source could be used if we port the cdma stuff up to froyo (Not even sure that would be needed) the port the cdma stuff over to the gsm stuff.
Now I was going to try to do that if it was possible. But I don't understand it really all that much. I can tweak the kernel source, build source and tweak, port roms and look at the main differences in stuff. When you ask for some help you either get confronted by a why or the dev you pm ignores you. I believe I have pm'd nearly every gsm dev to the point of having a ? with doing a kernel or porting something. The only one I ever got a reply from was benne. Now the ones with other devices seem to be willing to help though.
Which takes me to have sense hd. I have it all ported, setup what I believe to be correct. Where it starts to boot and freezes at a couple .jar files saying they can't be found when they are in the sense hd rom any way. Have yet to figure that one out.
Though thinking logical why waist time porting the sense froyo kernel when we should have the source? Every other phone has the source code after every update. I was told I would get it no later than a 120 days I think it was. Then they weren't in a gpl bind as android was w/e it is. I think it has been 6 months no with out the source. Where they are in violation of gpl as the android kernel is a linux kernel under gpl.
With that said if you search on here other devices got the same reply's to e-mails some of us have got. Which they got in no later than a month by doing constant e-mail's from people. They posted a generic type e-mail to send demanding the kernel source. Which is all it would take. This is honestly what I recommend to do since you will have issues starting out porting it. When you could start with something that works like it should.
Edit: Also the desire never got a official gingerbread sense. They got a leak which as I am aware all the gingerbread roms still use the stock kernel that was leaked with it. If it is using a different one I am guessing it was ported. Which leads to the other thing. Porting a gsm rom to cdma most will work but you will get force closes on some things. This is likely due to stuff in the frameworks for the cdma that is missing. I haven't looked into it much in all honesty. As sense is a different animal then aosp.
With that said though uscc said one update per device. Where my leak inside uscc said no gingerbread a month ago. Where uscc I figure would be the first to get it. So if we done get it. It would depend on the other carriers. If they don't I doubt we see it.

Ok this is the first warning before contacting a admin. You never contacted me to use my clockworkmod files. Let alone ask to host them yourself. Heck you never even gave credit for the files. You also never contacted lohp75 to use the pb99img.zip on top of it.
Being it is known that myself or weasel compiles the cwm files. I had a feeling you jacked them off my forum with out permission. My forum is open pubicly for people to stop in and download w/e. This doesn't me take the gift of getting something for free. Upload it to a different host and claim it as your own.
A little hint what do you think the 2fs after the clockworkmod is for? Sure isn't for looks.
So since you never contacted me to re host them or use in your guide. You will not have my permission to have them in your guide. You also jacked all the info in this guide from other guides and posts with out giving credit. Thanks for trying to take credit for nothing you did
Official gingerbread update?
HTC released the official gingerbread update for the Desire recently.
Is that only for GSM? Is there a way to get it on our cdma phone. I currently have CM7, but I miss sense.
Maybe someone made a rom that's basically the official Desire gingerbread, but works on the CDMA Desire?
Thanks

Koush is the maintainer of CWM, and personally I would appreciate it if you didn't put "2fs" after the version because it looks silly and nobody really gives a hoot who compiled it.

No there's no official CDMA Gingerbread kernel. There is a Sense 2.0 ROM testing right now from 2fast4u88.

[ROM][2013.01.09] Lenovo A789,P700i,A660 custom ROM (ICS)

I made a clean ROM based on the factory ROM for the Lenovo A789, A660 and P700i
Cleaned up ROMs:
- A789_S227_cybermaus_V2 (below)
- A789_S228_cybermaus_V2.1 (further below)
Ported ROMs (ported from P700i):
- A789_ROW_S105_cybermaus_ICS_V3 (further below)
- A789_ROW_S106_cybermaus_ICS_V3.1 (Further below)(also for A660 and P700i)
- A789_ROW_S107_cybermaus_ICS_V3.2 (Further below)(also for A660 and P700i)
The current and advised rom to use is A789_ROW_S106_cybermaus_ICS_V3.21
Based on factory ROM A789_S227_120827, and located in my Dev-Host. It is as close to factory as possible, which I hope will be good for stability. It is a flash-utility ROM, because it also holds the latest preloader, uboot and recovery. Assuming those are OK, followup fixes will be update.zip style.
Summery of changes:
- Rooted the phone with Chainfire SuperSu
- Set to boot in US-english, changed name of ROM
- Added MoreLocale for extra languages in 3rd party apps
- Removed Chinese apps, incl Chinese keyboard, removed SmsReg.apk
- Left Lenovo Security (anti-malware) and Lenovo (Go) Launcher intact
- Added Google GAPPS, Play Store, Maps, etc
- Added MobileUncle toolbox, SManager (root explorer). Titanium backup (free version)
- Added fix for location services
- Added CWMT recovery image (modded from 593cn.com)
- Added Skype, Whatsapp, and some others, as auto-install into userdata upon wipe
- Prepared busybox (you need to run script /system/xbin/installbusybox as root if you want it)
- Replaced bootup animation with clean Lenovo butterfly
- Replaced all some audio files with english named ones (thanks mabuc)
- Caller ID bug still present, sorry
- Just as a reminder, these ROMS have English and Chinese only.
Instructions:
By default, the ROM will not overwrite USERDATA or FAT. If you want a clean slate, first extract empty.userdata.rar and/or empty.fat.rar
- Read bgcngm flash tutorial.
- Read it again
- Start Flash Tool (v3.1222, in my Dev-Host)
- Load scatter file
- Take out USB cable and replace battery
- Press the download button in the flash tool
- Connect the USB cable
- Wait for the flashing to complete
A789_S228_cybermaus_V2.1 (no longer current, Use V3 instead)
Based on factory ROM A789_S228_120913, and located in my Dev-Host. Similar to V2, but newer, and a few extra fixes. It should be noted that the S228 is listed to solve unexpected crashes, so an important update in itself.
I do not have a A789, so it is a blind build. Until I get positive feedback, consider untested. Don't be the first to try if you are not experienced.
Summery of changes:
- Same as on V2, and additional
- Removed 2 more chinese apps that I forgot last time
- Prepared busybox (you need to run script /system/xbin/installbusybox as root if you want it)
- Added a tweak so USB-Debug notification is no longer shown
- Added a tweak so Wifi works on all 14 international channels (rather than only the 11 US ones, may be undone if you set a different locale)
Instructions:
This is a update.zip type ROM. So you need the custom recovery, see post #3,
A789_ROW_S105_cybermaus_ICS_v3.03
Based on P700i_ROW_S105_120920, see this separate post.
A789_ROW_S106_cybermaus_ICS_v3.11
Based on P700i_ROW_S106_121001, see this separate post.
Please note that this ROM I also build for the P700i and A660. See same post.
A789_ROW_S107_cybermaus_ICS_v3.2
Based on P700i_ROW_S107_121221, see this separate post.
Please note that this ROM I also build for the P700i and A660. See same post.
Below:
Post #2: Small review and fix of location services
Post #3: Custom recovery image
Post #4: Root your phone / install GAPPS
Also, many issues for the A789 are similar to those of the A750, so if you have questions, do search that Lenovo A750 thread to.
Thanks
Also thanks to bgcngm for his help, and to jazzor for his help
=================
BTW: Due to new forum rules, resulting in a large number of people that cannot post into developer threads and that subsequently PM me, I open op a new Q&A thread.
I am not going to be policing, so you can post where you like, but I invite everyone to use this new thread for any Q&A, and this thread for ROM releases and deep development talk only.
Consequently, if you PM'ed me, look for your reply in this new thread
Thanks

So, I got my first glimps at the A789. So to speak. My colleague was holding it while we were audio-skype, so I did not actually see it.
His A789 came with a Etotalk ROM by Dean, which I now suspect is a reworked Smileyvvv ROM with Sony Experia interface. Not bad, but as you know, I am a 'factory ROM' guy. My colleague may also be, because he had already replaced the the SE launcher with GO Launcher, which is the default Lenovo one. Also my colleague said it jammed a few times, which it still has not done on my factory A750 ROM.
Most of the phone worked, but a few tips for others out there:
- The phone still has the Called-ID bug. Even though it is newer 4.0,4. I know some of you claim this is solved on ICS Mediatek, but I still claim it is solved in *some* of the cases, not all, it also depends on how your provider sends the caller ID info. Anyway, you can work around it with the prefixer app as reported before.
- It did not come with the MobileUncle tool, but with the Etotalk tool. Which was not updated for the new MT6577 chip, so it had no Engineer Mode. Install the latest MU tool (version 20120813v2.2.0 its in my Dev-Host), so you get one with MT6577 Engineer mode.
- Recovery Mode was hard to get into. Like the newest A750 preloader, you have to press the power putton *just before* you press both volume buttons. But it did came with the CWMR Touch, though its Touch function was broken, so buttons only. They probably simply tried recovery images of other models, and did not properly build one with the A789 kernel, but it does not matter, it works well enough.
- Location services did not work. Update the phone with the ICS_locationfix_v1.3 update using recovery mode. While you are in recovery, also wipe cache. And finally, go into MobileUncle tool, the MTK Engineer mode, and in location settings, change the NetLoc from MEDIATEK to GOOGLE. Now your location services should work.
Lenovo A789 Recovery
I created a recovery image for the Lenovo A789 based on ClockWorkMod Touch 5.5.0.4. However, I do not own a A789, so until I have reports of it working, consider it untested. You can download it from my Dev-Host: File A789_S22x_recovery_cybermaus.rar
NOTE: It has come to my attention this recovery works well, except the nandroid backup function, which is broken. If you value nandroid backup, install the APKHOT one below.
While doing this, I also found a full APKHOT distro which had what seems to be a CLockWorkMod (non-Touch) recovery in it, so I extracted that and also uploaded it. That too you can download from my Dev-Host: File A789_S22x_recovery_apkhot.rar
Both of them you will have to flash using the flash tool, using bgcngm's excellent manual, and the V3.1222 of the flash utilities and drivers, also in my Dev-Host. If you flashed my V2 ROM, you do not need to do this, as the recovery is already part of that.
Once you have the recovery installed, you can enter it by pressing both VolumeUp/Down while booting the phone. Due to an issue with the preloader, it may be needed to press the power button slightly before both volume buttons. If the phone seems stuck, it means the preloader messed up, remove battery and try again.
Inside the recovery (the Touch variant) you can navigate not only by its physical buttons, but also by screen buttons, and by gestures: swipe up/down for up/down, left for back and right for enter.
The first few people using this, please report your findings, good or bad.
PS: As alwasy, thanks to bgcngm for his unpack utilities, which I used to modify the recovery.img
Lenovo A789 Root; GAPPS, Location DIY
Its been mentioned before, but if you have a working recovery (like above, hopefully), you can always yourself root your phone. Simply install (from inside the recovery) chainfire's "CMW installable ZIP"
Link to his post: (ignore his big red requires root warning)
The file you need is labeled "CWM installable ZIP" at the bottom.
Direct link to the file you need to install via recovery update.zip
And while you are at it: You probably also want to install the latest Google Mobile Services (better known as GAPPS) from CyanogenMod V9:
Explaining wiki from CyanogenMod
The file you need is called gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip and can be found here
You probably also want to wipe your cache partition after doing this.
To complete this DIY of fixing factory ROM: On Chine phone typically the location services do not work. Update the phone with my A750 V1.3 update using recovery mode. (it works on the A789 because it is a minor update, but *DO NOT* any of the other A750 updates on the A789. I repeat, do *NOT* flash A750 on A789). While you are in recovery, also wipe cache. And finally, go into MobileUncle tool, the MTK Engineer mode, and in location settings, change the NetLoc from MEDIATEK to GOOGLE. Now your location services should work.
Good luck
PS: If either update.zip refuses to install, remember to turn off the checksum and assert checks in the recovery.
And thanks to Chainfire for his work, and the team at CyanogenMod for theirs.

Yes, a recovery is on the todo.
But for now, you did not answer my questions yet:
- Can you tell me what ROM you have? Or had. Original Lenovo Factory, Etotalk-Dean, some other?
- Which flash tools did you use to root? Or rather, which files did you flash using that tool to deal with root. Actually, the fact that you had to root it yourself probably means you had factory ROM, but please confirm.
As stated, I am uploading S221 original to my Dev-Host. Flash that with the flash tool. On short notice, that is all I can do. On longer notice, I will help you, but give me some time.
Edit: In fact: You you already have messed up your recovery, and I do not have a A789 to play with myself, you may be my guinea pig for the recovery build. So I will work on that today. (as today is not a working day for me anyway). If you do not mind being a tester. After all, the damage is already done, and you apparently already know how to flash using the utility.
EDIT: @ hwonggc : Please test recovery in post#3. Just update your post below with results, or PM me. I would like to avoid too many new posts on this while we are testing.

As stated, I am uploading S221 original to my 4Shared.

Yes yes. I had the factory rom. I got the phone just yesterday evening and this afternoon it's half dead already. I use smart phone flash tool to root using a file i got from http://www.fight.org.ua/publications...novo_A789.html. Everything was fine until I deleted the original home UI and the apex launcher also. So there isn't anything I can do. I'm downloading the S223 from some russian site and try, hopefully I can find some luck there. Downloading slowly~ sighhhh.
---------- Post added at 07:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:40 AM ----------
BTW~ i'm willing to test out your rom too! I wouldn't want to sound too demanding, put please please put in the play store will ya?
I posted the custom build, see first post. It may take a while before I can get it uploaded, I am on a bad link.
Also, there have been 20 downloads on the recovery image. Come on guys, someone must be able to provide feedback about it working or not!
A789_S227_cybermaus_V2 ROM is working
Hello
Thanks for Your work.
Your A789_S227_cybermaus_V2 ROM is working.
Simple Flashing and start without problems. Now I must check some functions.
Thx again
basell
Edit:
The 3g connections don't work at first run. After restore they start but in My opinion with less sensitivity (compare to stock rom). It's look like A789 loose some frequency on witch can work.
Edit2:
And they have some strange behavior - After couple min of data connection (on 3G) they disconnect with information - "Restricted access changed" and the same is when I try to choose network manually. After that sometimes they login to 3G sometimes they change to EDGE.
In Stock version (S221) was not this kind of problems.
Edit3:
In place with good 3G signal I have no problem with data transfer.
How Can I check on witch frequency (2100,900,850) I have connected My data transfer?
Thanks for testing
Well, I definitely did not mess with any of the 3G stuff. So if it is true that 3G is less sensitive, then I would claim it is true for the factory S227 vs factory S221, and not directly related to my cleanup of it.
But (sorry to say so) I have learned to take claims of improved or degraded radio sensitivity with a grain of salt, even for the factory ones.
Having said that: Restoring S221 radio into S227 firmware is easy. The radio is separate firmware file, and I can extract the S221, S223 and S227 firmware in a separate file, so you can test. Were you actually using factory S221, or some other?
As to whether it is using 2100, 900 or 850: I can probably figure out how to get that info, *BUT* reality is that your provider most likely has only one frequency anyway. Most, pretty much all, EU providers are on 2100. The phone could not get to 900, simply because your provider does not have that frequency in the air (not for 3G anyway). And 850 is not supported at all on this phone.
Anyway, inside MU utility, engineer mode, bandmode, you can check/set the frequencies that are supported.
But please run a proper test if 3G is really degraded. As stated. it is so often a empty claim, I am somewhat careful to follow it. You want me to extract the 3 versions of firmware files in update.zip files?
Also, what country/vendor are you? please list the MMC and MNC from inside the APN settings.
Hi
If You will prepare this files I can test it tomorrow.
I'm from Poland and I have two frequency on data transfer - 2100 and 900. But I don't know if A789 use only one or change them. The place I'm test the signal is poor and I don't see if I work on 2100 or 900.
If You can, pleas tell me what kind of tests I can do to do that properly
Ok, here they are. update.zip type.
I only have S221 and S227, but the firmware files were indeed different, in more than just their timestamps. Of course, normally I would assume newer is better. So to make it clear: below files only replace the radio&dsp firmware, not the phone firmware.
Try to test honestly for yourself. Same conditions, same place, same time (because network load can make a difference)
It is possible that 3G really is degraded in S227, but as mentioned, I learned to not jump to conclusions just because the network is having a bad day.
WARNING: I retracted the two attachment, because I made a typo in the installer script. While the firmware is for the A789 (MT6577), the installer script is for the A750 (MT6575). Sorry. I will upload the correct ones in a moment.... Anyone that took a copy of these files before Oct 14, delete them!!!
I suspect the install would simply have failed, no harm done, but best to get rid of all copies anyway
BTW: basell, is that why you asked how to install? Really, if you ask for help, you should provide a bit more info. Anyway, I attached newer scripts, if you still want to try.
sorry for My question but :
How to install this firmware?
Like any update.zip on android. Go into recovery (see post #3) and apply the update.zip
i have the problem that the netlocation doesn't work with google maps, i flashed the cyber update 1.3, nothing changed, what should I do now?
And this is on what phone and ROM?
Anyway, to quote myself: "While you are in recovery, also wipe cache. And finally, go into MobileUncle tool, the MTK Engineer mode, and in location settings, change the NetLoc from MEDIATEK to GOOGLE. Now your location services should work."
many thanks, Cybermaus, netlocation works again after your instruction
Hi,
Thank you very much for building the ROM !!
I am using it for 3 days now and I am happy to report no problems with it. Everything works and most important: no more freezes !!!
my A789 came with the Etotalk by Dean ROM which was mostly OK, but was freezing from time to time (some days not at all, other days several times a day - most of the times when hanging up a call or, when trying to do wake it from standby: I was pressing the power button, but the screen would not light up).
Other things I like about this ROM:
- all phone functions work great
- Google Play works perfectly
- is rooted
- it has the Lenovo battery app, which is great! I am not 100% sure if this is the reason, but the battery life went from 1 day to 2 days
- I had no issues flashing it
- CWMT recovery works
Also, so far, I did not experience any 3G issues
I have written a small review of the Lenovo Security app, which you guys may want to put back on your phone if it was cooked out of it.

Thinking it twice, I've remembered another reason. One of the things I like most about the apkhot rom I'm using is that the external sdcard is mounted on /sdcard and not /mnt/sdcard2, which avoids problems with many apps. I tried one of the newest apkhot roms, based on s227, and none of the tricks to exchange /sdcard and /mnt/sdcard2 worked with it.

Well, that is actually an easy change to perform, just change the /etc/fstab.vold
However, if you go into settings->storage, the first option is default write disk. Change it from USB storage(the internal SD) to SD (the external SD)
So no hacking is needed at all.....
I've been running your rom for around 6 hours now. Everything runs fine. The 3G connection worked without much trouble. The only thing I haven't been able to do is performing a backup with the CWM Touch Recovery. So, I've just flashed the recovery I had on the apkhot rom I was using, using Mobileuncle tools, and now I've been able to create a backup.
So far, so good, and I've noticed a slight performance increase, too.

<li>First off I started this thread to seperate the current thread for this phone that is riddled with question and answeres and it is super difficult to find what you need to find in the thread. I am writing this guide and thread to give back to the forum for the many days and hours I spent finding everything I needed to find, to root, flash and mod this phone properly. My hopes are with my knowledge on the subject you wont have to spend hours of fruitless searching like I did to find what you need. I'd like this thread to stay uncluddered with multitude of questions if you have them, message me or go to this thread here and post please: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695210&page=96
<li>I would like for anyone finding new ROMS, making custom firmwares for this phone to please add them here to begin a nice list of ROMS custom or official for people to be able to find them in one place.

The Guide
<li>Follow Bruno Martins guide for setting up sp flasher here: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.it/2012/05/mt6575-flashing-tutorial.html#comment-form
<li>Just some notes and observations that were not mentioned in his guide that will help. In order to install the drivers try right clicking the driver for your system and selecting install. If that doesn't work here is what you do. Turn off your phone, take the battery out, put it back in (if you don't do this it will just show a charging symbol) now plug it in, it should attempt to install the drivers and fail, at this point go to your start button, search programs and files and type device manager, when it comes up select the one with an exclamation point and right click it, select update drivers, point it to the driver folder and then your operating system folder, i.e. vista, windows 7. If the attempt to install does not work download http://narod.ru/disk/57204199001.bb08022cc3658b67af84bc83bd330b0c/20120705_e1808_v75_jbl1.zip.html extract the folder.
<li>Download http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?htx4lkktne1jmzg recovery image and place and replace the recovery in the folder above.
<li>Do not have your phone connected to your computer, open sp flashtool downloaded from Bruno martins guide select scatter-loading on the right select the scatter file in the extracted folder, deselect everything but the recovery i.e. only have recovery selected! Click the download button.
<li>Turn off your phone, remove the battery, put the battery back in plug in your phone, it should now attempt to install drivers, again it will fail, start, search programs and files, device manager, right click the one with the exclamation mark, select update, select driver folder, select your windows version, yes on any warnings, now installed.
<li>NOTE: I recommend never plugging in your phone until you hit the download button and it says searching with sp flashtool. It doesn't react if it's plugged in before then.
<li>O.K. So at this point you should have your drivers installed and recovery as well. Almost there.
So next download http://www.sendspace.com/file/oj1fv2 2 gb internal memmory and 500 mb external. Essentially what this zip does is make your phone have 2 gigs of internal space and 500 mb external instead of 500 mb internal and 2 gigs external, super cool.
Don't do anything yet though.
<li>Next download http://www.sendspace.com/file/uj3jqx This is the ultimate rom I spent some time on for our phones, it's android 4.06 while it's not orriginally mine I fixed a lot of issues and made it much, much, better and pre-rooted with buisy box.
<li>Next download http://www.sendspace.com/file/7yfizd That's right GOOGLE NOW fully working, really cool, works perfect you'll love it!
<li>Now that you have them downloaded put them on your SD card. Here is were people kept telling me if your external doesn't work you can just put it on your internal Sd card. DON”T DO IT! If your external doesn't work you put a smaller one in a 2 gig works nicely, I had a 16 gig and it wouldn't read, had an old 2 gigger laying around and read it just fine. Heres why you don't use the internal, your flashing the internal memmory!! It will mess everything up!
<li>That said, files on the sd card put it in your phone.
<li>Press power while holding the up or + volume, release power continue to hold the volume and you'll eventually go into recovery menu.
<li>Use volume to navigate power to select.
<li>Select wipe data/factory reset, confirm.
<li>Select wipe cache partition, confirm
<li>select advanced, select wipe dalvik cache, confirm.
<li>Now select install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card and select the custom rom file, confirm.
<li>Go back and reboot, let the phone reboot to system, as a side note screen will be moving white, its just the wallpaper. After full boot up let system settle then hold power and select recovery.
<li>Once back in recovery select install zip from sdcard, choose zip from sdcard and select the 2 gig zip, install.
<li>Select choose zip from sd card and select the google now zip and install, now reboot your phone, and love the awesomeness. By the way it's just google in your app dawer or choosable when you select the microphone on your home screen.
FLASHING OTHER ROMS
<li>There are two different types of ROMS you can flash.
<li>Official-These are official builds and releases made for your phone. These will be flashed by using sp flashtool. Now our phones also have unique hadware sometimes different from phone to phone. Chinese are pretty infamous for mixing and matching hardware. That being said you need to have software settings set for your particular hardware. You do this by using a particular software called SP MDT which you can download here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6kee8d When you download the file run it. Select your scatter file, then select the button with the question marks, select unlock, the first one on the left is for your rear camera, middle is for front and finally right is for your screen setting which most people have trouble with and think they bricked their phone. The only way to truly test this is trial and error, if your screens normal you''ve selected the right screen setting, if your cameras work they are also on the right setting. Now close SP MDT and it auto saves the settings for you and use sp flashtool as normal.
<li>Custom-These are modded and themed developer ROMS, these are installed by flashing from recovery and generally do not effect your screen and camera settings because the do not contain uboot data.
Troubleshooting
<li>Don't flash NVRAM and UBOOT if your phone already works fine with cameras and LCD screen!
<li>My phone will not connect to install drivers- Many methods have been mentioned, but the one that works is-power your phone off, take out the battery wait 5 sec, put battery back in, now plug in your phone to the pc, it should attempt to install drivers and fail, go to start then type in the search box device manager, select it, right click the one with the exclamation mark, choose update. If that doesn't work, run sp flashtool select your scatter file choose what you want to install, select download button, now follow the steps provided above and plug in your phone. Also The cord that you use to pluggin to your computer may be the issue, if it does not transfere files when you plug it in normally then it wont work for the drivers, some of them are charge only I found that out myself when two of mine didn't work.
<li>My sd card can't mount in recovery-Most likely cause SD card is incompatible i.e. too big, use a smaller 2 gig card, do not use internal memmory as others suggest, it can mess things up and I advise against it.
<li>SCREEN PROBLEMS! Psychedelic colors, black, white, gray and others. CAMERA PROBLEMS! No camera, wont focus etc. Etc.... You need two programs spflashtool found here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bh81se and SP_MDT found here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6kee8d You also need an official firmware. Open SP_MDT go to the box that says scatter file, point it to your official firmware scatter file, then click the box with all the question marks, press unlock, the first option is your rear camera, the second option is your front facing camera, the last option is your lcd settings which make it look normal (not phsychedelic and wacky). Now these settings vary from phone to phone so you just have to trial and error them, basically if your screen is right, the seting is right, if your camera works the setting is correct. Now you can close the SP_MDT don't worry it saves your settings for you even though you just close it. Go into SP Flash tool Now you can flash the whole ROM but you don't have too, you only need to select UBOOT it will give you a warning it's perfectly fine, thats all you need to flash to fix your settings, and it wont mess up your current ROM.
Official Roms
<li>Flash With SP Flash tool, Do Not Check UBOOT or NVRAM Unless you have already messed up camera and LCD settings in which case you need to follow the troubleshooting section.

A 4.03 custom rom

Feel Free to add more, as will I. If you like this thread feel free to thank me if you really like it please DONATE thanks.
NICE
Wow, thanks for putting the time into making a comprehensible thread. Cant wait to get some free time to root my n8000. How's the battery life in the ROM and are there any bugs? will report back if i run into any issues.
Hello
what is the point of having two threads for the same device.?
why did you not just post this there in the correct place?
surly it is much better to have one place to go to for all the answers and to ask, the N8000 thread has developed as the device has
you will just be adding to others confusion
good luck.
If you visit any of the other threads Of different phones they actually contain multiple threads which keep things uncluttered, so that people can find what they need that was my goal with this thread. They don't just contain one huge single thread.

Incompatible apps
Thanks for the guide I've now got the 4.0.6 Rom on my phone. one problem, the play store says a lot of apps aren't compatible with my phone. I'm assuming this is because its a 4.0.6 Rom is there anyway to make the play store think you have 4.0.4 so it will let you download them or any other way to download these supposedly incompatible apps?
there is no android 4.0.6 this rom is based on android 4.0.3

Okay I've now tried a 4.0.4 Rom and its still saying loads of apps are not compatible when downloading from google play? These apps worked fine when I was on the stock 4.0.3 Rom.
sendspace.com/file/uj3jqx was 4.0.6 is a moded version of android 4.0.3 the build.prop file has been edited 4.0.6 there is a build.prop file somewhere that lets google play compatible with all apps.

This is really important to note. Newer phones have JBL2, and the JBL1 stuff at worst soft-bricks them and at best takes away auto-focus from the camera (still working on this, but seems permanent for now).

Yes -- it works! I've done it.
I'm sorry that you're not going to find one step-by-step guide for this phone, but all the info is here.
This is a very hard phone to "break" in a permanent sense, but I'd read as much as you could stand before you began to avoid headaches that others have had before you. Between the two threads here, there are 150 or so pages of info. Especially important things to note: Make sure you have the right phone (not quite as easy it sounds) and make sure you note all the current details of your software before you get under the hood.
In order to use Google Now, you'll first need to root your phone and install a custom recovery (if those don't make sense, use the Google to search for an overview).
For our phone, I'd start with the first page of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695210
So, the question becomes: Do you have root and a custom recovery?
FWIW, Google Now is interesting but has yet to seem revolutionary to me. Seems like something that will be amazing three or four generations from now.

Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 MT6575
Hello Everybody!
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 CLONE, the MT6575.
It is possible to put Android on this phone, and there are different versions which you can put on your phone, however, not all of them work fully. I am not responsible if you brick your phone, or any damage done to it, but hopefully, there shouldn't be much damage done.
Not sure this is your phone?
If you have any doubts that this is not your phone, please do not download or use the roms linked here, This can destroy your phone!
As I only have the MT6575, I do not know the differences between this and other phones, but this phone should have 2 Sim card slots (Covered with silver foil to start off with), and a battery which reads SUNSANG (Not SAMSUNG).
Some Images:
Sorry that some are pretty bad quality, I was using a temp. webcam when I took them and the webcam had a bad resolution.
UPDATE: I now have a galaxy ace so im not going to be using this phone much. I found a replacement charging port as mine broke. Any problems reply here and somebody will try to help! I dont check back often here, but i know some users do. Not many people have this phone so i thinnk this thread is kinda dead! If anybody wants to update the roms and stuff, feel free. I dont host the roms, its Pappiedappie, so pm him if you cant get the links! Have fun with this fun, its a decent phone for the price! Good luck![/URL]

Most of these links come from pappiedappie's signature, which contains some very useful links! Thank you!

FLASHING GUIDE
What's needed:
USB data cable
MediaTek USB VCOM drivers
SP Flash Tool ( Latest version SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1224.01)
First of all, make sure that you have MediaTek DA USB VCOM drivers installed.
Flashing the whole ROM
First of all open SP Flash Tool, then click Scatter-loading button to load the correct scatter file
(MT6575_Android_scatter_emmc.txt or MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt, depending on which phone you have) for your device and ignore any message that may appear.
Turn off your phone, remove the battery and replace it after some seconds (and don't turn on the phone).
Press F9 (or hit Download button) and connect your phone into the computer via USB data cable.
The process will start and a red progress bar will appear.
After the red progress bar is complete, there will appear a purple progress bar.
Right after the purple progress bar is complete, a message will appear underneath it:
“Please insert USB cable in x seconds” and then the download will start right away (you will see the yellow progress bar filling up).
When the yellow bar is complete, you'll get a popup with a green circle and Download OK message,
which means that the process has been successfully terminated.
You can now safely disconnect your phone and turn it on. The process ends here.
Flashing only part of the ROM
In case you want to flash just one part of the ROM, that is also possible. In the shown example, only recovery image will be flashed.
Deselect all parts except the one(s) you want to flash and then press F9 (or hit Download button).
The tool will immediately show a warning because not all parts are selected, but you should continue anyway. Safely press Yes to continue.
The download of the chosen partition image will start and after the yellow bar is complete, the popup with the green circle should appear.
Please note that, even though it isn't mandatory to select it on the list of images to flash,
preloader file must be present in the same folder as the other partition(s) that you want to flash, or else phone will not be able to enter into download mode.
Attention: Please follow the instructions carefully. I will not take any responsibility on whatever may happen with your phone.
Very important warning: Always make sure that you trust the sources of the ROM you download and know that it is meant for your phone.
After flashing a wrong preloader, your phone will be completely dead (can't be powered on, it will not charge and won't be detected anymore by the computer) and there is no way to recover it.

Hi,
In this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921178), if you read through it, I believe there is also somebody else who has a 1 sim phone.
If you take off the back cover, above the battery, there may be a CONCEALED 2nd sim slot, under some foil. If there is, You should have the right phone as the one in this forum, if not, check the other thread.
Cool. I will follow. I have this phone but my battery does indeed say samsung. I have two and they both say samsung.
Nice..good luck with this thread. As long as I own such phone I'll follow this thread and will help when possible. Keep on this work.

Hiya,
I don't actually know how to make the roms, they have been created by others. If you have a link, please PM me it, so i can put it on the main page. However, I think the last link in PappieDappie's sig. is 4.1.1 Dekdee?
I thought that seeming as the other old thread never got updated, I should make a new one, as it would help new people find their way.
Also, if you see a samsung galaxy sIII theme for andriod, please let me know, as normal andriod looks a lil different from samsung andriod
thanks

Hi...
Wonderful Thread......and very informative.......Just couple of suggestions........
1) If you could ask / request all users and posters in this thread to include 2 Pics of their Phone....front and Back (with back cover removed, showing battery, SIM(s)and Memory Card) .....this so everyone can figure out what phone He or She is using and would seek any help from the User of same phone.
2) If you could attach the Pics of the ROM (s) that are posted here.......along with the About System Pic.
I think it would be very helpful to you.....and to all the Users of this thread.....Everyone will know exactly what they are looking for.
Also.....if these ROMS's can be flashed via CWM or Custom Recovery.......that information can also be provided....
these are just suggestions......
Thanxxx

You have to change the home screen background too. On your launcher, press the left menu button, then System Settings, Display, Wallpaper and pick a option from there.
Then again, it depends what rom you are using.
Hi everybody

Tips
Hey! I have some tips!! I have a camera.apk that works for our phone. You have to push it to system though. It has camera, video, and panroma (sorry I don't know how to spell it) works perfectly it's not upside down!!! I also have svoice if you want it.I also suggest you guys use xposed if youre rooted and then use tweakbox if you want to change your status bar and clock color! It's so easy!!
Also, I tweaked my 4.1.9 rom, but I'm not sure how to put it together like a zip so others can use it! There are some pics of my rom using nova launcher!

AOSP 5.0.2 D2303 Work in Progress

AOSP 5.0.2 Barebones for D2303
Hi all.
This is my first run of compiling a barebones AOSP 5.0.2 for our D2303's. I got sick of all the failed ports and wanted to make my own from scratch. Here you have my first launch. You can not get as barebones as this. This ROM was made using the guides on Sony Developer website and should be the same result if anybody else follows the same steps.
I have made ZERO modifications to this ROM. I have changed no code, made no patches or even themed it with a custom name. This ROM is as-is if you built it following the same guides on Sony's site. I just saved you the time.
**This ROM works!**
Data / Calls / SMS / NFC / Bluetooth / GPS/GloNAS / Wifi all work!
Camera does not. It might, but I broke mine and doesn't even work after stock restore!
No lag!
Clean, basic, no-frills, xPosed ready!
Unlock your bootloader!
Be running either a modem from a 4.4.2 ROM or a 4.3 ROM!
This ROM is provided as-is. The sources are freely availble following Sony's guides. You use it purely at you own risk!
Let's clear some confusion with this device, which I am shocked top developers have missed!
* You **have* to be running either 4.3 or 4.4.2 MODEM! If you are running a 4.4.4 ROM, use Flashtool to drop back to 4.4.2 or 4.3 first
* You will not be able to boot ANY 5.x ROM with a 4.4.4 modem, it **HAS** to be 4.4.2 or 4.3 MODEM!
There are guides on how to revert back on this forum and I will not detail that here. But in essence, it is only the modem you need to revert back.
This ROM I would say is usable.
* Camera doesn't work on mine, but I broke it to the point it wont work in stock ROM
* Calls / SMS / Data / Wifi / GPS / NFC / Bluetooth all appear to work as they should
* Sensors appear to all be working as they should (at least compass and light)
* No lag or FCs
This is a totally unmodified ROM using the AOSP & Sony sources provided in Sony guides. I did not develop or make any of the code or scripts. I simply compiled it, flashed it and now using it. All credit to the software that made this ROM goes to all those involved in making, patching and taking the time to make this work.
I do not want any donations. If you wish to donate, donate to FXP/CM12/Omni/PAC/TWRP and the persons that created what I have simply bundled here.
Download via magnet/bittorrent only for now. For trackers, please use OBT trackers. Issue with previous download! I somehow crossed an .img from another project as the boot.img for this. I have recitified this issue and the correct boot.img has been added. Apologies for this & thankyou to all whom spotted it.

Sorry for the bad link effort, since I am new to contributions I'm stuck until I make the relevant posts.
I have no idea if this will work on any of the variants of this device. You are welcome to try, but don't blame me if you break it. This ROM comes as is, is provided under the same licenses as AOSP and Sony Development.
Tricks & Tips:
* Download the .zip for Omni ROM 4.4.4 for our D2303's. Extract the boot.img and keep it safe. This boot.img holds a reliable TWRP which we can use to ''fastboot boot'' instead of flash and even make a reliable backup of a stock ROM. When you put device into fastboot/bootloader (hold power up when plug in data ready cable), execute ''fastboot boot boot.img'' which will boot that kernel w/o modifiying anything. Now keep hitting volume down when you see Sony logo. TWRP should load!
* Use this for all your backing up, flashing zips, ROMs etc. Do NOT flash it. Just fastboot boot it instead. This can even be used AFTER we install Lollipop for the same reasons.
* Flashing this ROM requires you to use the above TWRP to wipe all partitions, System, Data, Cache etc. It's best to start afresh (I actually wiped everything except since I wanted a totally clean slate, wiping external storage isn't necessary but wiping internal is recommended.)
* Extract the tarball with the .img files
* Put the device into fastboot mode again!
* execute the following commands:
* fastboot flash boot boot.img
* fastboot flash system system.img
* fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
Make sure all processes complete successfully!
Unplug cable, wait a second or two and power up your device! (I prefer this to fastboot reboot as the data cable can hang the device in a weird, red led stays on mode that has bootlooped me a few times).
Give it a while to boot. Whalla, Lollipop!
If you want gapps, using the fastboot boot method above with our Omni 4.4.4 boot.img and TWRP.. Download CM's gapps for Lollipop and flash/install it. This does not lag the device. However, you will get a black screen for a while after first boot of installing any system/ZIP flashable (it wont show updating apps, just blank screen). BE PATIENT! The same applies if you do anything that triggers that "Updating App X of X.." Android is updating effort.
xPosed requires you to follow the instructions for flashing the ZIP then installing APK. Use the same method above for installing the ZIP.
To get root, just download the latest SuperSU-2.x.zip and flash the same way as above.
**Issues**
* With a 4.3 Modem, the Bluetooth is slow coming to life. Take about 5 mins when turned on from off. 4.4.2 modem doesn't seem to have this issue
* Location services will forget a change to Accurate on a 4.3 Modem. On 4.4.2 Modem doesn't seem to do this.
* My loudspeaker during calls is tempremental, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
* Some OTG devices work, some dont. I had one or two pendrives that did, some that didn't & a 3G modem (with PPP widget's help) that did & another that didn't!
* Screencasting initially didn't work. Enabling Developer Mode and disable HDCP checks seemed to allow some functionality for me.
* Data icon always said 3G for me, even when on HSPA(+) - I use OSM which showed varying network types. GPRS/EDGE shows as 2G. I do not know for 4G as my carrier isn't 4G enabled yet.
* No hardware accelleration (using VLC & MX Player as guides) for video playback, however it can playback a 1080 MKV over wifi no problem.
* Same applies to screen-recording software. I can't seem to get native Lollipop one to work at all, but SCR Free works.
* 3D Performance is a little smoother than in stock ROM (IMPO playing Ingress).
* GravityBox for Lollipop works. However!! On some instances it can cause a softboot on a boot up (when it goes for PIN entry). For me it comes back after they next cycle. Not pinned it down to what in GB doing it though.
* Compass, proximity & light sensors all work. There is some screen flicker once so often when using dynamic brightness.
* No way to force use of 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz wifi (or leave it to select auto) as there is in stock ROM.
* Battery life when using the device as I do is as the same as stock, the device is however faster in general. I can sit it for 29 hours idling, providing not too many calls. The powersaving modes built-in can extend on this but I haven't properly tested.
I only mention these as some people may care to know. If the camera worked, I would actually be totally happy with this ROM minus it's few pitfalls.

What if I told you I did the same as you and it is EXACTLY the same build you can find on FXP's blog (but files are not straight uploaded, so build can be a little bit outdated). Developers around here are working on sources, and changes are on Xperia Developers Github.
As you can see there are things jerpelea (FXP) has pushed.
https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/device-sony-eagle
Only untouched sources are for Nexus, all other devices need to be patched, and sometimes rewritten from scratch (for example camera wrapper).
If I install this rom, and when I back to stock rom, i won't be able to use camera?
Is that right?
Um ok but why there is no seeding?;/ and why dont u give an alternative link?? haw we supposed to try this rom mate?
who can confirm if camera works or not ?
Update
I will work on a 4.4.4 AOSP eventually. Thanks for the tip, I'd also be curious on this.
I do not doubt that developers that are working on Omni/PAC/CM/FXP have submitted code, that's probably why the barebones is working sweet. I did try FXP but ran into different issues on different versions (all already documented). I built this on a whim as I just got fed up.
With the camera, that is exactly how I killed mine, and I also lost the original backup I made with Flashtool/Companion as well as from TWRP. So I have no hope. If you keep/make a backup upon successful bootloader unlock (companion/flashtool), you should be OK if you do a stock revert that is documented on this forum.
For the download link, sorry about this. I used transmission and it went into meltdown last night from another seed. I believe mega is a method people use here, is there any other suggestions. I will do this when I get back home and check back here.
** I am uploading this to Mega now, I will add the download link to the OP. **
Thank you for uploading this rom Dutch.
I ll test this rom, correct it where i can and send you pm as soon as possible with some fixes plus solution about your camera
cross your fingers to not break mine lol
Best regards
Vampirian
Thanks
If you do make some patches, can you please put them as flashable ZIPs? I really don't want to go and start tampering with a somewhat stable base. I bless whoever made that boot.img for the Omni 4.4.4 - I would like to try and get that working here, but again tampering.. Just means needing a PC or tablet to make mods to your phone each time.
I may have a bash at a custom kernel with a recovery for this, but I'm not rushing into that idea just yet.
** Update **
I got curious about the FOTA partition I saw using Flashtool and see there are already ports of custom recoveries (with custom boot kernels with elf extract support). I am overly curious about this now as I would love to have this TWRP from Omni's boot.img for my internal recovery. I have already made a custom kernel for my device and it seems to not effect anything (not changed a thing mind). I may now start to tinker!!
Has anybody tested this rom?

The mega download is shot. It has become corrupted and I will remove the link from the OP. DO NOT USE IT!
The magnet link is still fine and extracts properly.. Just be patient as there are only 3 peers at present.
I am still using this ROM and there are some issues.
I failed to get Wifi tethering to actually route. It would run, give dhcp and even resolve DNS, but it is as-if the the nat forwarding rule has been missed and everything blackholes.
Camera is a total no go for me, I fooked mine in other ways though.
For how I use my phone (calls/sms/Ingress/HO/G+/Whatsapp/Maps/Wifi location mapping (OSM/Mozilla stumbler/Wigle) / Skymaps) it does just fine. Battery life isnt impressive vs. stock overall (doing same as above). xPosed allows tweaking, but this is where instability occurs.
GB works quite well, but avoid things that dont have direct L support (xPrivacy/Lightningwall etc.).
What I want to do is submit my phone into submission and try to get my camera working in a stock again, then give this another bash. It is a usable ROM if you just want a clean fast phone with no thrills (or camera).

Nice for giving so much info on AOSP experiences and "prerequisites" (like 4.4.2).
I'm using a AOSP 5.1 build I made myself, and have to say the only issue with the latest build/kernel is battery drain (and camera, but "they" are working on it).
I Hope nobody will call you a troll because you share your builds and experiences with everybody
I got a massive lag when using browser or while using a few apps at once, also installing apps and turning on bluetooth take alot more time.
The things I do like is that it is pretty stable....
Thanks to all that have and are testing.
The tether issue was my tablets fault and does actually work. As does BT tethering.
All of the sensors work (i went out of my way to try each one (magnet sensors are always fun)).
The slow Bluetooth I found only happens when using a 4.3 modem. I dont get it now using a 4.4.2 modem.
There is no call record ability in this ROM. CM11/12 have enabled this feature, I believe its a small. xml patch, can anyone confirm please?
I do experience slowness with lots of open apps, i also notice if you have a lot in frequents its a pain to clear all (fixed with gravitybox mind). They also seem to come back even after a reboot. I do find myself regularly clearing the frequents which does sort it.
And thanks for the tips. I find trolls arent entirely too common here. Ive been reading from XDA for years and my sole idea was to demonstrate that its is doable and quite easy. I am still using this ROM everyday and Im quite happy with it. I do still prefer Kitkat though
I do want to play with 5.1.x (and nicer the camera works) - but i went 5.0.2 simply because of xposed support. Nothing else
There is a battery drain which I noticed "out-of-the-box" so to speak. This happens when there are issues with "qdoverlay" which i noticed sometimes occurs on bootup, then will savage your cpu. I spotted this in logcat and didnt find a direct fix (other than sleep the screen when the phone starts lagging, wait a second or two then wake it back up. Location type also counts, oddly high precision seems to give me more life. However, there is an "Over-Counted" cropping up in battery stats, which I cant pin is for what, as its usually a high figure at the bottom.
Can anyone confirm a working camera on this ROM? Opencamera or Googles should work if one doesnt show up.
Thanks again everyone
