[ROM] VanirAOSP [official] [nightlies] [4.4.4] simple, clean, fast... - Nexus 7 (2013) Android Development

Welcome to VanirAOSP. Our mission is to deliver a clean optimized version of Android with subtly improved versions of the features you love to as many devices as possible. we've tried to incorporate and improve our features in a way that makes them more cohesive to improve the overall user experience while correcting any performance regressions and improving functionality..
What to expect:
- This is not a McCopy ROM. What goes into our build is well thought-out and not a bunch of stuff duck taped together because we could.
- maximum optimization. We do our research. We test hard. We build thoroughly tested global optimizations including standard linaro.
- originality in our source. We generate a lot of new commits being features or general code improvements. We are open source to share and improve the community but we also try to make sure we offer a unique experience.
- aesthetics.. hopefully in your opinion
General features:
SU, busybox etc
stock mode - ability revert to stock AOSP code with the exception of a few custom features we chose to keep active
enhanced performance.. longer uptime with less slowdown
custom written CRON and init.d etc
UI and graphics improvements
custom navbar, navring, and hardware key features
halo (active display & lockscreen notifications are in review)
usability improvements like power reboot menu and sound
animation control
Improved Vanir keyboard
CM's profiles & quicksettings
additional quicksetting tiles
immersive mode
statusbar mods
clock & battery mods
lockscreen blur and other mods
soon to come -> quick cam and flash notifications

I'll be releasing ATOM for FLO/DEB too when it's ready. For now I'm focusing on the vanir nightlies.

Bro getting my n7 in today, on the fence about rooting it but seeing this... Good to see Vanir having a presence

Thanks man. This thing flies. It's Really really fast.
Two things I found, first the gallery doesn't show images correctly, also the wallpaper isn't displayed properly. Second, in the recent app windows each app is too big.

I saw the gallery earlier. I believe it has something to do with the external libjpeg-turbo repo we use for decoding. Its an upstream revision to what you would normally find in an aosp rom. i emailed myself a picture earlier and it displayed wrong but only on the device. It was normal on my computer. Will contemplate this further when i finish getting vanirAOSP 4.3 to all of our devices. the recent apps display was made to show 3 apps on the window so you could read what was on the thumbnail but if i remember correctly my commit to include the config.xml edit that fits the thumbnails xy to the container was vetoed by a team member for lack of forsight as to why it was changed in the first place. I have this fixed on my personal variant of vanir which is called ATOM. look for it when we finish fixing all the bugs in vanir 4.3. ATOM is based off this source and contains many additional speed/memory management tweaks and additional compiler optimizations plus some light theming.

there is an FC when you click on storage from within settings. this was fixed in the linaro branch of our source and it will be merged with our master by the next release. i can't replicate the keyboard FC. I haven't actually seen this FC in any of the builds I tested over the past week. You're going to have to give me detailed steps to reproduce it otherwise I can't do anything about it.

I'm running this Rom and really like it so far. I've run every Rom out so far and this is my current favorite. It has a nice set of features and runs good.
One bug I've noticed is that if you change to tablet ui it constantly force closes the settings ui. I had to wipe and reflash because of this.
Thanks for this Rom

Known issue. On the gnex it's slow enough you can just switch back between FCs but FLO is a beast lol
Easy fix. Concentrating on getting the builds up and running for each device then I'll take care of that stuff

I'd appreciate some more details. Keep in mind that this is a beta. the point is to find and fix the bugs for a full public release. I'm not trying to be rude but i can't really do anything about that vague of a statement

running the latest beta, can anyone confirm if they are getting a force close when clicking on Settings - Storage. Also in TabletUI mode, when I clicked the Date, I was getting a force close of SystemUI.
Other than that everything else seems to be working properly.

Been running update all morning..seems solid. There is the gallery issue. Love all the customizations... Seems good for beta build. Keep up the great work.....:beer:

Thanks, just wanted to confirm it wasn't a glitch when it was flashing. Can't believe I didn't realize that, I had gotten the package file is invalid from the Play Store when trying to install the calendar. After tethering to my phone, its working now.
Thanks again.

Possible bug or is it just me? Gallery previews look all distorted. The images themselves are fine.
Going to try the latest release and see if it helps

github is a live changelog and we have a built in dynamic changelog in the rom itself Its had huge improvements
Does this ROM support init.d? I didn't see the folder at /system/etc/init.d
Edit: Also this ROM is very small, which is awesome. Most ROM's are around 100-200MB, but this is only 85MB. Works fine with motley's kernel also
Looks great,Simple and stylish.Thank you very much for this.
Liking this rom, very smooth and light.
Wondering if anyone could help... after installing this ROM I can't Access my paid movies on my Tab....I get the message "couldn't fetch license, error 43".

Do you have the newest version of gapps?
I flashed the beta and now I'm getting "unfortunately launcher has stopped".
Ok, so I just installed this... is it meant to be completely bare? Did I miss something?
Also, my soft home button isn't doing anything - it makes a noise, but doesn't take me to my homepage
Does the tablet ui patch work on this ROM?

Big problem..... put the new ROM on last night finished charging so took it off and woke up this morning to turn it on and the screen is now unresponsive. I tried replugging it in and powering up and everything. Holding down the power and volume down I near the sound of taking a screen shot so it must be running.....but can't get the screen to turn on!! I don't think I checked USB debugging so using the root toolbox on my laptop won't work. I wish I could pull the battery on the tab..... any help!?? Please

I know that some of the jellybean roms are quite laggy....how's the performance on this one?
ok, whats the difference between this and the original one? Only thing I can tell from the screenshots is the nav bar on the bottom is gone on this one??
And man, i miss baked :crying:
Is it possible to include a scratch and sniff app that smell stinky? maybe a notification smell instead of a sound?? :silly:

For another it runs on my phone. I had problems with the other, don't think it & my phone got along, even this morning I flashed the latest, no go. But this is running great, also I'm impatient, at work so no wifi, obviously not recommending this but I dl all over 3g. Anyway, thank you, love the black look. Nice.

Yes it does & works great.
EDIT - Props to the dev here. Been running this since it came out (even dl'd over 3g, impatient) and it has been running great. Wallpaper on lock screen doesn't work, couple of glitches here & there, but all jb is that way. I couldn't run the other black bean rom, I tried several times, but this is definitely a keeper. A status 7 error usually means, your recovery is out dated and needs to be updated, but its usually not that at all,its more than likely a bad download, check the MD5 sum.In other words its trying to say your rom isnt compatible with the recovery.

apparently, at some point I did a custom MTD partition. I did so much flashing on this evo when it was my daily phone, that i completely forgot, untill i was looking on my sd card and saw the zips for the custom mtd recovery and custom recovery boot. I thought I had zero'd out the custom MTD.txt file so that it restored to the stock partitions.
i appologize for being a flashaholic.
I reinstalled smelkus 4.3 just to be safe. was just about to redownload the rom again, figured i'd give it a shot to install one last time and BAMMMMMMM
just got through my initial boot, going to sign in and reboot to flash the inverted gapps.
i've face palmed myself a few times by now. thanks for the help guys

Just few quick questions, I don't remember cuz I'm also a flashaholic, which rom it was but on the lock screen I had a link for the Google Now. Is that an option on this?
Second, its just me but can you also at some point include the mod for changing carrier name? I tried the ccn app but it didn't stick.
Other than that, its awesome!
I'll take AOKP anything

2nd....Lol...
Thanks Team Liquid for sharing this
Looks very promising, just unlocked/rooted my N7 yesterday, nothing seemed appetizing till I saw this :good:
....downloading
What does the following entail:
"Forced Tablet Mode with DPI Changer"
can one change between 2 modes from within ROM?
Looks awesome!! I have Liquid ICS 1.5 on my Thunderbolt so its only right that I flash Liquid on my Nexus 7
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using XDA Premium App
Is this built with Linaro toolchain?
Ok, installed the ROM (full wipe and couple of reboots) and it's missing some things, gmail, play...etc!!
Edit 1: I see now a zip in 1st post "LIQUID JB GAPPS PACK", I'll check it out!
Edit 2: What do you know, flashing the zip was the solution! looking good.
I see some interesting tweaks in settings....more feedback later

Looking forward to installing this version. I liked it a lot when first released, I can't remember why I ever switched. Too many ROMs and perhaps some A.D.D inspired flashaholism *shrugs* ;~) Thanks for all of your hard work.

It's false (as Uber said) and not an elegant way to advertise.
Video error bug
I'm getting a "this video is not authorized for playback on this device", message on certain websites like espn. I swapped out the browser apk with a generic one and still got the same message. Also setting the wifi signal bar color does nothing and adding the kill all apps button doesn't add a button on either regular or tablet mode. I couldn't find a setting to get rid of the Google search bar or a setting to remove the menu button from showing on the home screens so I am using nova launcher for now. Other than that everything is very quick and smooth, browser works better on this rom, I've yet to have it pause while opening websites like I've had on other roms. I like the fact user agent was made available without having to use the about:debug method to access it.

PARANOIDANDROID v3.60 for HTC Desire HD
Video review by Sany789 (German):
Android 4.2.2
feeling
Blazing fast and super clean, we started right off the AOSPA source and added as few patches as possible
HALO notifications*
Hybrid engine:
Per app Layout, this will let you choose the UI of any app, that means you can switch apps into their tablet layouts
Per app Size, scale apps individually, this is especially important if you use tablet apps, go as small or big as you like
Per app Color, this lets you select statusbar and navbar colors for apps individually, colors will shift when you jump from one app to another
Hybrid engine makes it possible to use any tablet ready app available on your phone, start with your regular Google apps and see what treasures lie hidden in them and just how well they work on your device.
You can use hybrid engine to use all available general interface UI's aswell: Phone, Phablet, Tablet. This is safe as milk, we don't change DPI, we don't trash your market, we don't shrink all your apps or force them into layouts, you don't needto edit system files for that.

Awesome, it's nice to see there's still someone paying attention to an old device.Looking forward to see this run nicely.
If you can mirror your builds to mega/google drive that'd be great, dropbox is way too slow and will give bandwidth issues if too many people are gonna download it.
I'm using a Nexus 4, but I think it's still a nice device. It fell down many times on asphalt, ect. and it's still working without problems, no new device can do that.
Because of that I never sold my DHD and I'm still using it for some experiments or if I need another smartphone.

As I said there are still some big problems, so don't expect too much.
But it would be nice if you could contribute to the development, even if you just name some other bugs.

It is very smooth, YT plays no problems, no probs with h/w decoding whatsoever, everything else works, but if I run the camera app at this state(not working atm)the whole phone starts lagging no matter if I stop the gallery app.I had to reboot. Also I can't remove halo(or don't know how to)When I hold it and pull it upwards it shows an X and I think that's to remove it from the side but it doesn't go away, i can only hold and pull downwards to put it back into the side.
You can remove halo when double-tapping on halo, keeping the finger on the screen when tapping the 2nd time and then you can move it to the trash, pretty much the same as with the Facebook chat heads.
Niiiiice! Great work man :good: I bet it'll be solid soon.

This is something completely new. Matthew0776 has developed and maintained CandyShop threads all over XDA for customization of all aspects of your lockscreen and desktop. This is a ROM developed and produced with all manner of customizations in mind. While all of us on the CandyKat team use and love the Beanstalk ROM, we aim to be as different as possible. :victory:

We are currently in beta status; many things are in production as we speak. We are all about offering as many choices as can be packed into a ROM, and will certainly discuss the addition of that particular feature. But as of now, no.
Thanks for the ROM! Love that DarkCandy theme! Just one question, does it have a feature to adjust the NavBar height?
