[Q] Gameloft Games Not Compatible? - Shield Q&A

Don’t know much about how compatibility is determined on the play store weather it’s up to the developer to say a device isn’t compatible. But I noticed on launch day nothing was really blocked due to compatibility but yesterday most of Gameloft’s library disappeared for me was curious if anyone was able to try Dungeon Hunter 4 & Order and Chaos on the shield.
Anyone have insight on why certain apps are being blocked?

It's a new device and normally will have to wait for game updates before certain company's list the Shield as compatible (its the game developers that enable compatibility lists on their Google dev accounts).
I do know Modern Combat 4 will work with controls on Sheild as its recently been updated with HID support but whether it's available to download is another story.
For now your probably better off sideloading games from another droid you own (if you do).

App developers can change their games compatibility. Gameloft, in general, doesn't support controller on many games, so I wouldn't be surprised if they started marking them as incompatible.

Do you happen to have a rooted phone or tablet? If you do you can download the games to that device and back them up with titanium backup. Then you can export the backup and import it to your shield if you have rooted your shield. You might be able to just pull the apk out of the titanium backup and sideload it on the shield if you have not or don't want to root the shield.
I did this exact thing with the game Avadon to get it on my Kindle Fire when I had that. It isn't pirating since you own the game and a lot of the time games will work on unsupported devices this way. Once you have them installed they typically show up in the market but will still say unsupported and not allow you to update them.
I would imagine without controller support those games would need an app like Gamekeyboard and root to emulate touch controls with the physical buttons. I am currently using that app to play Final Fantasy Dimensions with the Shield. The only thing I cannot do with the physical controls is browse the inventory out of combat. In combat and walking around I can use the physical controls fully. It's pretty awesome.

Evo_shift, how did you root the Shield? Thanks!
Edit: nvm, saw the thread.

Yeah, I was wondering why I couldn't find Modern Combat 4!

Don't need root to sideload from one phone to another (or tablet or shield).
ES File Explorer supports backing up apps to .apk without root permissions. From there you just copy the APK onto the shield, launch it in a file browser and android will install. No root required.
As for final fantasy. I guess no out of combat inventory is annoying, but at least you do have native touch.
My brother had a kindle fire, we used the ES file explorer method and since then have rooted the device, added the play store and a custom launcher. Shame that you have to do those mods but once you have its definitely a bargain. Missing bluetooth and camera etc, but its cheap and runs most things pretty well we've found.

Wow, cool. I had no idea something like that wouldn't require root.
The lack of bluetooth is why I ended up selling the Fire when the Nexus 7 was released. It did everything I wanted it to do just fine and I got it during one of Amazon's big refurbished sales and was my first tablet so I didn't want to spend a lot because I wasn't sure I would use it. Finding out I wasn't able to use a bluetooth gamepad was a real bummer to me. Now, my kids have basically taken over the Nexus (and they are only 4 and 2 years old but there are nice educational apps). The shield is my new toy that they will not have access to and basically replaces my Nexus 7 since I only used it for gaming

I contacted Gameloft and all they said there's nothing in the works, but when there is they will announce it. Lame

Not all games allow apk back up without root. There will be a little lock icon for the ones that are protected. I think all Gameloft games allow sideload, since the game checks your Google account during the first time opened to validate. Most games released in the past year (at least) still check the device if compatible, so even sideloading does not mean the game will actually work when you open it.

For modern combat, turn off mouse control via quick settings and the game works great.

im still waiting for my shield, does wild blood or nfs most wanted work?
I can map the keys through game keyboard if they can run on the shield

NFS Most Wanted works (touch only).
Throwing this out there. If you like racing games, be sure to check out Asphalt 8. It works and is compatible with the Shield controller.

I install the dungeon hunter 4 and use the tincore keymapper to map the screen button and work like champ.

[Q] How do wii, or can wii play Super Smash Flash 2?

Hey everybody!!
I want to know if there's a way to play Super Smash Flash 2 on our awesome Android phones. When I open it in the mobile browser, of course it opens and all, but it's not really playable. I probably need a physical keyboard. This is why I hate touch phones. Where the keyboards at? Sorry, off topic.
Anyways,
There is a download, but it's an .exe download. I want to know if there's anyway we can emulate this flash game on our phones and play it.
I know there's an app that let's us play .swf, which are flash movies. But I want to play a flash game.
Here's a link to it to view it or play it. =.P

I'm actually a developer of SSF2 (small world, huh?) & I've dabbled around with playing SSF2 on my Droid RAZR using apps that have onscreen buttons. You can download the mac version and unzip it on the root of your SD Card and the game will play (make sure you have the data folder in the root of the SD) - however since it's not optimized for mobile (or even close...) it runs at crazy low speeds and is almost unplayable.

[Q] new shield/android user with emulation questions.

First of all, hi... im new here, and new to android and more specifically nvidia shield (just got last night). Is there some comprehensive guide to setting up all the best emulators and controller mappings for them for my shield? and do i need to root it or whatever like i see people talking about?
First thing I would do is download retroarch. That contains all the most popular emulators and it is free. In fact the developer is very much against people charging for emulators and doesn't use ads or anything. The buttons on the shield are automatically mapped in retroarch as well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.retroarch
You do not need root. Just download it from the play store grab a few of your favorite roms and play.
Retroarch calls each emulator a "core" so if you want to play SNES (maybe don't use the BSNES core or whatever it is called. It might be more buggy than SNES 9x or whatever the other one is called) you would load up the SNES core in retroarch and then choose your rom.
If I were you, I'd root your shield. That way you can write to your external SD card and change the minimum CPU frequency while running emulators.

[Q] Is there any nvidia shield features i can get on note 3?

I have note 3, but i miss the features that shield had like the touch controls to physical controller mappings.
Is there a very smiliar software like that i can get on my note 3 which does exactly the same but to a ps3/ps4 controller? Cause i really liked to play android games with controllers but i don't want to buy a new shield just for that. (not like the shield supports that many great games either)
No one knows?
Any software that is smiliar which can do exactly what the shield's "console mode" mapper does?
There's an app called tincore, free on the play store. A lot of people had success with it, though I tried to play minecraft with and it didn't work well. There are even downloadable layouts if you search for it...
Yeah, too advanced for me too. tried it several times, plus the bloody app uses too long to start up

...So there are unlisted games in the play store...

It may have just been me, but I had no idea there were unlisted games in the play store. I accidentally do a search in there and up pops 3 to 5 games that aren't among the regular dozen. They're seemingly not android tv optimized, but they're there none the less.
Downloading deer hunter 2014 now, gonna see how it goes.
You can install any app that otherwise wouldn't be blocked due to lack of a feature (such as touchscreen)
All the tv store does is not give an easy way to navigate to an app not whitelisted on the tv store.
Just go to the web site, and tell it to install chrome, it should install but it doesnt actually work with the remote (i've tested this on my ADT1, the NP should be no different)
Yeah i've already got chrome and side loaded a few apps. I was still just surprised to find hidden apps. I would buy modern combat 5 but mc4 controls lag.

Anyway to play gameloft games with "lefty" southpaw/ legacy southpaw settings?

Anyway to play gameloft games with "lefty" southpaw/ legacy southpaw settings?
Hi everyone, I'm restless in my pursuit of trying to get this done. I've been playing fps since the first Turok for N64 so therefore my right thumb is mentally programmed to walk with RIGHT CONTROLLER STICKS, yes I know it's weird as frruck but that's just how it is and I can't reprogram my brain to use the left stick in any game to walk. I believe all COD games had the southpaw or legacy southpaw option so I never had a problem with those and as you all know gameloft sucks when it comes to controls. It there any holy miraculous way to get this done on a shield with Nougat and latest 5.2 update. I'm rooted so no problem there. Or at least a way to trick the game into thinking no controller is connected when Shield Controller is on. I can't even use my DS4 with sixaxis cause the thing would only sporadically connect and never reconnect which is why I bought the newer edition shield controller. Also I have no idea how to use tincore and instructions are very vague or old and outdated. I appreciate your time to read this even if there's no solution oh well. Thanks.
