Is it possible to watch Netflix on the touchpad?

Don't think so. I'm not a professional, but without an official release from Netflix to the WebOS (or at least a port from Android) we will never be able to do it. It uses silverlight and not flash, that's the problem...

Nop, but amazon on demand does (for whatever that's worth).

Netflix is not currently and will probably never be officially supported for WebOS (which of course is the OS that the Touchpad uses). However, there are some solutions.
Currently, you could use Playon. I've not tried it on the TP personally, but I heard it does not work very well and if it's anything like my experience with Android, then I'd have to agree with those people.
Upcoming solutions, 1) Wait for Android. If Android is not something you are interested in then perhaps, 2) Wait for Splashtop Remote Desktop. Splashtop is the only remote desktop app I've used that plays media from a remote location as if it's playing natively on the device you are using. It's wonderful piece of software and it's coming soon to WebOS.
If neither of those solutions are something you might want to try, unfortunately, you may be out of options. Netflix does not see making an app for webOS worth it's while so we will probably never see an app. Silverlight is what PC's use to play Netflix in the browser, unfortunately that will likely never be supported either.

there might be a tiny tiny possibility - but there are several things that would need to be done:
1. You need a rooted transformer
2. A kernel-dev would have to include the drivers for your TV-card in their kernel
3. You would need to flash that kernel
4. Someone would have to write an app that can handle TV-cards
But all this is pure theoretical

there is app for watching dvb on android http://code.google.com/p/archos-gen8-dvb/source/browse/#svn/trunk/sources/LiveTV can be imho run on transformer with usable kernel modules for your dvb cards untested because nonrootable tf :/

I'm no developer, but as far as I know the link you posted was made for a froyo based tablet.
Perhaps this won't work on Honeycomb ... but maybe there's a developer out there to "update" this app and make DVB-T available on the transformer.

I'd be happy with an app that could either act as a frontend for MythTV or Windows MC, or that could use a Silicondust HDHomeRun network ATSC/ClearQAM tuner.
I haven't been able to get a MythTV backend running on my netbox PC, but I might be able to run ubuntu or something in a virtualbox VM if need be to get MythTV working. I don't know much about MythTV... whether it uses UPnP or DLNA or some other server type to make videos available. I figured that you'd need a client that 'understands' MythTV's setup in order for it to work as a frontend, and I can't seem to find an Android app that claims to support it.

My solution is complicated but works fine.
I have a tuner (an old hauppauge usb stick) installed on my home server. I then use dvblink (can't recall url - poss dvblogic.com) to share the tuner across my network and its detected as a local tuner by wmc (you dont have to do this, its just my setup). It costs maybe £20 or similar.
The important bit is that Dvblink also acts as a dlna server, and comes with an android app that will allow you to watch the signal on your transformer (i prefer swifta to the app myself). Will work for any tuner really, not just dvb-t.
In theory, you could also connect to the dlna server via the web, but i never have.

How to use Play To Feature?

I have been trying to get this feature to work for a while now, Microsoft has been no help because all of the tutorials involve using media player on desktop win8. The option comes up when you select a music file in windows explorer under the Play tab in the ribbon. It is supposed to allow you to stream to dlna devices or other computers on your network. I have the proper media sharing options enabled on both my win8pro laptop and the surface, but I can not get it to ungrey going either way (play from laptop to surface or surface to laptop). The normal tutorials involve creating a playlist in media player then using the play to option in it, which is still grayed out on my laptop. The surface can see the laptop over the network, and the laptop can see the surface as well.
Later I am going to try turning on the server option in services on the surface and see if that works
Anyone else gotten this to work? It just seems like such a great idea, have your laptop plugged into the stereo and then play stuff to it remotely from your surface. I wish that Microsoft had implemented this as robustly as the play to Xbox option because I don't want to buy an Xbox just to stream music while I have other computers that could do that just as easily.

Make sure the media sharing services are running and permitted through the firewall. Beyond that, I don't know. I've never actually heard of the functionality like you describe - PlayTo is intended for devices (i.e. "not computers" where a Windows RT tablet is a computer, but an Xbox 360 is a device). There are (much) cheaper DLNA receivers than Xbxoes, incidentally.

I use the play to now and again, I stream video files to my DLNA TV. Though I tend to prefer to use my laptop for this due to its support for mp4/mkv files. Just ensure the device ur streaming to comes up in the devices part of the metro settings, and as mentioned, ensure your firewall isn't blocking it.

Unfortunately, it has to be a Microsoft-certified DLNA receiver for Metro apps to be able to share to it. There are a bunch of those, but it's not quite as easy as just getting a DLNA receiver. You can use Play To to a non-certified receiver from the desktop though.
For the original poster, to be able to Play To a laptop, you need to enable an option in Windows Media Player and have that open. The option is "Allow Remote Control of my player" under the Stream menu (in WMP12 at least).

@jhoff80: Cool, thanks for the tip, didn't know about that feature!
@Doggydude: Be aware that Windows RT doesn't include Media Player, so it may be unable to receive DLNA. The other direction should, in theory, work after enabling it as jhoff80 suggested.

Thanks for your input guys, I will continue to work on native play to, but courtesy of a pm from neoncell who doesn't have full permissions yet there is an app called play to receiver in the store that should do what I want fairly well.

@gooddaytodie I might look into a receiver, but I'd rather just use existing hardware. My stereo and tv are too old to have even basic internet support. I wish that Microsoft had implemented other device options other than just an Xbox for native media streaming in their music and video apps.

My Samsung TV is not Microsoft certified. Does that mean I need this Play To app/program to stream video from my tablet to my tv? How do I get it?

That means you have to do it from the desktop. Right click (tap-and-hold) on the MP3 audio file or MP4 video file that you want to play to your TV, and it should give you the option to Play To, with a callout menu that lists your TV. That will give you a small set of controls to play the video or audio file, with playlist functionality there as well. (Looks like they just pulled the necessary parts from WMP).

I highly doubt it, you need an app that has the ability to stream.
Microsofts media apps for win8 have xbox streaming built in

HTML5 video is supposed to work that way, but I've never tried it myself.

I have a chromecast... I wonder if this will supply all of the chrome cast functionality plus access to all of the other android apps... $129 is nearly 4 Chromecasts for one of these. Well there now exists an android stick with trusted support behind it.
Not that the other providers didn't provide support, dell is a large company with lits of resources.

I have purchased one of these and using it for entertainment and work. You have to create a Dell Client Connect Manager starter account and setup users there first with rights. Right now I have XBMC running on it plus netflix, hulu, citrix receiver for work and few other apps. Google play store showed apps to be not compatible with this device so I installed 1market store where I can download the same apps as the Play Store.

You can probably use Cheapcast (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.maui.cheapcast) in order to achieve what you need it to.

I have it too, with netflix the video sometimes pauses, the subtitles go out of sync and never catch up. It comes with Android 4.1.2 and the apps on play store are very limited, you can install more with 1market but some of them will not work.
Also the mouse and actions have some lag, it is not as responsive as my nexus 5 or 7, when you type sometimes it take almost a second to show the letter you typed.
I'm still looking for a way to change the resolution in my [email protected] monitor it doesnt look as windows, it's a little blur.

Mine shows only 2.9GB storage, there are 8GB advertised, how many GB has yours?

Has anyone had any luck seeing if there Is a way to get around the first setup so I can use it as a normal android Stick without a Cloud Connect Manager account?
For those that have used the Manager account to get a User set up. Does it become useless after the trial is up or is it not needed once an account is made?

Hi,
yes, I just installed another launcher via adb, thats all. google-apps (play) are already installed.
And it looks like you can uninstall the cloud connection manager via settings as well. I did not try it yet.

Dell Cloud Connect (HDMI Android) in Hotels
I have a Dell Cloud Connect, which I was hoping would work (as Dell proclaims it will) as a smallportable device to put my work desktop (via RDP) onto the TV in my hotel room - a potentially extremely attractive feature for those of us who travel a lot.
The first hotel I stayed in (San Jose, CA) had a TV with the requisite HDMI ports. I tried it in both but there seemed to be so much installed with the hotel entertainment systems (OnCmmunications and LodgeNet) that the option to choose the Input was unavailable (or had been made deliberately unavailable); I was not able to change the Input. Has anyone else found this? (One word of warning: I am no TV expert so it is possible I was being dumb.)
On return home the Dongle plugged straight into a projector and an HDMI-equipped Monitor with minimal problems. On the monitor and projector all looks a good except for the hassle of Cloud Connect.
In answer to the question above about whether you have to use the paid CloudConnect, Dell has told me "We do have a Starter version that is available. However only the 14-day pilot (pro) edition is what we send out for piloting purposes. We can however convert your pro edition to starter upon completion of the pilot." I believe the Starter Version is free and supports up to something like 15 or 25 devices.

I just got one of these. I've never owned an Android device before. I was considering rooting it. Does anyone have any advice in that regard?

It is not necessary to signup for Cloud Client Manager(CCM) to configure device if you select skip button during setup. However signing up for CCM does get you a newer build from Dell. My setup has a resolution issue that make all control you usually see on Android not visible. Which make setup a bit tricky. This issue will continue until resolution is setup correctly. To skip CCM setup move mouse to the bottom of the screen to select skip button that may not be visible. You can address resolution issue by opening the Application drawer, hidden in the top right due to resolution issue. Once the appdrawer is open Select AppUpdater to get all stock applications updated. After update device should now have an application named "ResizeScreen" which should address resolution issue. Not sure if this application only appears in new build downloaded as I did not find the application drawer until after I updated build from Dell.
Ensure to enable "Test Touchscreen support" in Developer options in setting to unblock applications you download that are blocked due to dependency on this setting. I was able to gain root with KingoRoot tethered root method, APK method failed. The KingoRoot SuperSU installed forces portrait resolution on all root privilege request, not good for a TV setup. Supersu I downloaded from Google Appstore works right but it seems KingoRoot SuperSu supersedes it. Devices is a little under powered compared to current Android devices, but It may still make a nice little HTPC. CPU is the same as a Samsung GS2. I am trying to figure out how to get recovery working on this device. I am wondering if I can just flash the same recovery as GS2 or will I need to compile recovery specific to this device? Specs below from CPU-Z.

New to Sticks, need advice on my options please? Audio-centric questions

I'm wondering if you can help me please, however I'm not sure if what I want is available. I'm new to this area of Android and I'm finding all the options a bit daunting as I'm not familiar with what is reputable and what is not. For example, I read the thread about the Gearbest MXiii, but when looking in the UK, I found the same box on Amazon, released under 2 different Manufacturer names... Much like if you try to buy a Media PC keyboard.
Anyway, here are the things I hope to do / run:
I want to replace my Windows Desktop that acts as my Media Centre. I use Kodi (Formerly XBMC) 14. I also use Chrome to play Netflix (would replace this with the android app), Spotify - and that's pretty much it. All my Storage is networked so I don't need anything there.
I am hoping to get a powerful machine (Quad core perhaps) with the ability to run lollipop (through AOSP if necessary) that will run Kodi, spotify and the Netflix app. BUT what I am also hoping to do, is run a 5.1 audio setup. I'm under no illusions that this support will be unlikely to be built-in (Although that would definitely be preferable) but will happily buy a USB DAC if we know of a stick that will support it and is not extortionately priced... What complicates things further, is I don't really want to run 5.1. I actually want to run 3.0 ( I don't imaging that makes much difference here, but again - it's not a familiar area to me). The reason being that on my Desktop, I run a centre speaker with the volume controlled separately, because whenever any of my media supports 5.1, when it mixes down to dual channel, I often end up with loud sound effects and low dialogue, which can be trouble when I have both an upstairs and downstairs neighbour....
So.... does anyone have any recommendations based on that?
