[XPERIA L][DISCUSSION] Battery Management and Discussion Thread - Sony Xperia L

As we all know that battery backup is one of the only backdrops of Xperia L. So I am making this thread so that we can discuss battery life. Recommend ways of increasing battery life, softwares you use to increase backup, post your battery stats. Tell us how many hours you get.
Hit Thanks if I helped you.

I was also using that battery saver but later found out that the battery saver itself was succking too much ram and battery. You better use only greenify and app cache cleaner. The battery drains a lot by using battery saver but after uninstalling it, I can feel the difference.

Actually, I mainly use that app to quit all the apps running in the background. Check its widget. You can place it on your homescreen and with one touch, all apps are closed

Yeah I am also talking about it. That widget itself sucks too much battery and drains battery. It takes almost 20 MB of ram even when we are not using it.

Yeah it does use a lot of RAM but it does more good than bad. I hope they release a more optimized version, that would be very good.

do try Qualcomm Snapdragon BatteryGuru (available on Play Store), seems to do the trick for me. This combined with STAMINA mode that Sony offers, I can sail through the day easily with enough battery left in the end.

I don't know why everyone complains so much about battery life. I get about 3-4 days out of a charge with medium usage. WTF is wrong with me?

I don't use a software that promises battery save, only the tools provided by Sony in power management.
Also, brightness is at 0% or at the worst auto-mode. I switched off all the bloatware by Sony + Google Chrome.
And last but not least, I do full charges and un-charges.
Those dark days with the X10 Mini Pro taught me some things, lol!

I didn't say I discharge it completely. In the previous screens, I was just outside the house, so I couldn't charge it at all.
Usually I do the charges below 10-15% depending on where I am.
But, yeah, Li-Ion batteries should be fully discharged at least once every 30 charges (give or take), based on what I have read here or in other forums.

Hi!
The past days, I also have the same problem as you guys have..But then, after I did this, my battery does not drain that much..
After 20hrs on Stamina Mode, about 2-3hrs 1-2hrs of gaming, 2-3hrs 1-2hrs of 3G surfing, and downloaded from google play about 150MB, i still have about 58% of battery life on my XL..i know that does not count that much, but it was really a lot compare to the recent days i am using it..
I don't have any installed apps to kill recent apps..i just swipe out the application on the App button( the one on the right side of the home button with two rectangle) and that's it! I even keep the running applications on the application setting to run on its own.. :victory:
Hope this one helps you! Just hit the Get Mad button..
:highfive:
Edit:

My brightness is zero since XL is still okay with this setting..

I got around 22 hours of battery with stamina mode on and mobile data on for 5-6 hours
Sent from my C2104 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

I have tested my phone in many ways and here are my results:
Battery drain:
Stand by (no stamina mode): -1%/hour
Stand by (STAMINA mode): -0,4%/hour
Hard use with brightness 100% (3g/wifi open, bluetooth open): -29%/hour
Hard use with brightness 50% (same use): -23%/hour
AnTuTu Battery Test (100% Brightness and full 100% CPU use): -35%/hour (and 50,4 degrees Celcious (???))
I dont think it is a good battery at all, for hard users!

Battery discharging.

I think my battery is discharging really fast. I have power saving mode on and brightness at about 30%.
Wifi is always on"unless im sleeping" ram is at about 600+ all the time. Can anyone help me figure out
how to slow down the discharging, and are there any recommended apps for solving this issue?
Go to settings> battery and check battery use specs.
If you're getting more than 7 hours of screen time in a charge, you prob have nothing to worry about.
If you're getting less, check what else is eating it up

At heavy use with max brightness and screen always on batt should be worth 9-10 hrs of working time.
Some apps (esp. Weather apps with warning function as well as some widgets) actually suck away the battery like hell .
Get "better battery stats"and run it for a day and You will know which app/widget is the sucker.
On my old Note I had a "sucking " event after a ROM update: 30% in 30 minutes. With the experts here I solved this in minutes.:

I think it would go down in 4 to 5 hours if im using it non stop with power saving on and 50% brightness.
That is normal I think nothing to be worry about
Yeah, most tablets would last just about 5-6hrs with heavy use.
That said, I can probably get like 7-8hrs of good usage.
Watching videos, esp HD and on-screen widgets are usually the main culprits.

Tips in Increasing Battery Life of your Droid

There's a lot of misinformation out there, so you need to do some testing. I get 20 hours of regular use or 16 hours of heavy use.
Note that these are my results on a Samsung Galaxy Note i717 running on 4.0.4 ICS stock rom. Your results may vary, particularly if you're using a different OS version!
Don't use Live Wallpapers. They're cool, but consumes lots of battery.
Don't use Sense UI. Again, it's pretty, but not friendly to battery (for HTC users)
Prefer the back button instead of the home button. The back button lets apps decide if they want to run in the background. The home screen often leaves apps running when they don't need to.
Don't use app killers! There's no need for them if you use the back button, and you'll end up crippling other apps because of non-obvious dependencies between apps.
Use WiFi whenever you have access to a network because it uses less battery than 3G. (Shorter distance, lower power.)
Turn WiFi off when you don't have access to a network, otherwise it will keep looking for a WiFi network it can use (which drains battery)
Reduce the frequency at which apps refresh their content. Common offenders are social media clients (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and news or weather apps.
Finally, watch your battery usage under Settings -> About Phone -> Battery -> Battery Use. This will show you what has been using the battery since it was last charged. (So it shows nothing while charging!) If anything unexpected is using the battery, consider replacing it with another app or service.
Best of luck, and enjoy your Android phone!

I'm not sure if the back button really really close ALL apps as you think and as we want to have like.
I've noticed that this won't work for:

Switching off haptic feedback/setting it to auto also helps a lot.
If on a custom rom, try reducing the vibration motor vibration to 50% one minute of using the vibrator is as good as 10 minutes of ringing.
Further, try changing your cpu governor to something more meek and less performance oriented

more battery life tips
The tips given so far are great for reducing battery drain, but there is another way to look at battery life.
Batteries degrade and lose capacity. The lithium ion / lithium polymer type batteries used in phones age faster with heat. At room temperature, ~68F a typical phone battery mght lose 7% of it's capacity per year. With each added degree the rate of loss accelerates. As temps increase the rate of loss can become very high. Leave your phone in a car in summer sun and you can lose a measurable amount of capacity in a few hours. Likewise as temps decrease rate of loss slows. If you have a spare battery that you only use on trips, storing it in a refrigerator will slow its decline. Storing in a freezer will slow it slightly more, but introduces a risk of damage from condensation when you take it out to warm. Also, the battery can be damaged by charging when very cold.
Unlike lead acid batteries which age faster in a partially discharged state, lithium based batteries age faster at higher levels of charge. Some laptops now offer an option to not fully charge the battery which is very helpful for people who mainly use them while plugged in to a charger. The combination of the heat from the laptop plus continuously being at a state of full charge causes rapid ageing. Lithium batteries degrade most rapidly when fully discharged so it is usually recommended to store them 50% charged, roughly 3.75 to 3.80 volts. When storing for very long periods of time one might want to start from little higher state of charge to lessen the risk that the slow internal self discharge doesn't drain the battery too far. Storing at lower temps also slows self discharge.

[Discussion] Battery Killers

We all want good battery life, that is a given. With the large batteries and the optimized operating systems versions most of us are running today, we all should have it. But often times we don't, why not? Apps with services causing wake lock issues are often to blame. So, I wanted to start this thread to post all apps we have found to either avoid or with workarounds to prevent bad battery life from ensuing.

I agree, facebook its battery sucker...
Wifi, Scrreen brightness, Auto sync, GPS and games in general seem to be the big culkprits for my battery draining. Even simple things like turning auto rotate off can help a tiny bit for performance and battery life. Limiting your amount of active widgets and screens animations on your fancy launcher can cut down as well on battery and performance. Certain IM apps like facebook chat, skype, and a ton of others will kill your device fast. Google + is known to be a bandwidth hog and batttery killer. I noticed when im browsiing youtube simple things like turning off hd will dramatically help improve battery life because your network is not sucking as much bandwidth.
There is all kinds of stuff to do . It is a constant battle.
Greenify app & use Lean Kernel if possible
Like many have said, apps running in the background are the main culprits of a shirt battery life. Unless you feel those apps are truly essential I recommend uninstalling those apps.

[Q] Battery saving tips

Hi all,
Although I am more than pleased with the Ascend Mate 7 (silver edition) battery life, I was used to try and save as much battery as I could on my Gnex.
Do any of you use any apps or settings on the Mate to stop it's battery from dropping when the screen is off? I've got Greenify installed as well as Amplify, but although apps are hibernating I still get that popup that app X is using battery in the background. I've also got the usual strange wake locks keeping my device from falling asleep (*backup*, framework services...) , but I'm trying not to get too bothered by them because I know nothing about those sort of things to start messing around.
What do you do to keep the battery life to a maximum?

Battery life is fine for me, I like to have speed so no power saving for me, brightness high (auto), everything allowed data etc.
I just dont worry about battery life, a day of heavy use and I still have a bit left so all is well.

This will give you a few more extra battery life.. up to 9 hours screen on time.

Hmmmm. So you say: kill mobile data when you are on wifi?
Do you know of an app that does this automatically, switching between wifi when there is a trusted network and using data when there is not?

This is my observation, people who use minimal amount of 3G or 4G data and wifi instead is those who get 9 hours Screen on time.
People who use no wifi and only 3G/4G and maybe 200-400 MB per day are those who get 4.5 hours of screen on time.
This is nothing unique for this device however this modem is for sure not the most power efficient modem out there..
This is also the reason why people get astronomical differences in battery time.
Do you guys use titanium backup? What apps do you freeze?
I've got it installed but lack the knowledge to use it safely. I am interested to know as well, also which system/stock apps to uninstall safely

Had my mate 7 delivered yesterday. After using it till 2% battery I then charged it up for about 4 hours till fully charged. I took it of charge and went to bed. This morning it says 76% how can it use that much power in standby? It did have a notification about Google play services waking up many times. Any fix? Surely this isn't correct for a phone to do.

Hi @vimto25 I don't really know how to shut down the google play services wake ups. I've tried to use System Tuner to limit the wake locks like in this and this thread, but ultimately I found it made things worse on my Mate 7. Have you installed Better Battery Stats to see what is really keeping your phone awake? Then just search around this forum for a solution or post your wake locks in the better battery stats thread!
Could it bee (this is a laymans opinion) that since this was your first time, your email was busy syncing all your mail?
Hopefully someone else really knows how to help you out! At night I always use the ultrabattery powersave option and never lose more than 10%. And if I do, I usually have a strange wake lock myself, like google play services, *backup* or framework.

I only have 25 emails synced which they synced when I set the phone up earlier that day.
I have looked how frequent it.synced and it said every 15mins which sounds very frequent but all my devices I've had emails syncing around 10 mins.
But I'm guessing it's email that's my problem hence why it said 40% with over 1 hour cpu time. Hmmm I've changed the sync time but I can't see that helping much.
I think I'll do what you have done by enabling power saving mode at night. I currently use normal all the time.
I LOVE this phone just need this small problem sorting.

It would be nice if someone can list some information on how he has set up his phone for battery performance.
Anyway i always use ''smart mode'' of the battery,
i have 5 email accounts in push , always pushing , but my battery on 8 hours a day of screen on and messenger chatting, on mobile data or wifi always on its battery lasts like 1day and 3/4 on !
you can enter the phone manager app and disable the user apps from booting up. just live the ones you need, like whatsap, messenger, google service, gmail, super user or smth else.
Hope it helps !

I'm going to see how it is again tonight. I may restart the phone before bed and see what happens. So far battery isn't very good for me but I can see it has potential so it's how the device is set up the end of the day. Just didn't expect my battery to drain that much and esp using email on standby.

Do not set it manual, just set your E mail in push mode. Not by interval.

After every charge. I lose 10% from a full charge in roughly 2 hours. But I still to manage to to get my phone over a day of use and 6hrs of screen time. WiFi is always on for me.

Moto X play Battery life after Marshmallow Update

I am really excited for upgrading my x play to marshmallow 6.0 from lollipop but after using it a while i am facing very less battery backup on marshmallow as compared to lollipop I merely get 3 hours of Screen On time and the battery last for 15-16 hours on normal usage. Is anyone else facing this problem !!
if you are rooted , try amplify and greenify, it helps a lot. you could also try to edit doze settings to make the device sleep faster than google intended.
mine Sot was reduced after MM, so i started tweaking doze and installed Greenify+Amlipfy. Now i get approx 50min-1hr SOT per 10%. i am not a heavy user, i do lots of browsing and whatsapp on data and i get around 6 hours SOT from 100-40%..never have drained the whole battery ..i guess it'll go beyond 10hour.[as battery saver kicks in at 15%].

Let the phone go through a few charging and discharging cycles to let phone stabilise.

disable auto sync from accounts settings and locations....limit background data for Google play services..see if it helps. don't root now first try the existing optimizations.

if you need good battery then you have to cut down core functions according to your use.
I need the phone for whatapp and browsing so I turned off pretty much everything else like app auto-update I don't need Google to search every 30min if a new version is available, turned off NFC when I am not using.
@Himalaya saxena are you on stock rom or which one ? Check battery usage in System / Battery menu and report it. If you want people trying to help you please be more accurate and provide some detailed information and evidence.

NFC only uses little power. I keep it on all the time and still manage to get 6-7 hours SOT for every full charge
bluetooth is using extremely small amount of battery, too
it has LE profiles, so no need to turn it off, if someone is wondering about that
It seems there are quite few people with battery issues around... My phone lasts around 16hrs too, with everything pretty much turned off and very moderate use. No games, no videos, no music, no Facebook, no IMs. Just some Chrome, phone calls etc. My 2 year old Nexus 5 would last just as much, which is kinda laughable, given battery, SoC and age difference...

by going into
settings > battery and then clicking the three dots on top right > battery optimisation
Check that are apps getting optimised.
Also one more thing, By going to
Security > apps with usage access (at bottom) > Turn off the usage access of the apps there (would be play store and play services)
Do click the three dots on top right and touch the show system and another app named "motocareint" would show up. Turn it's usage access off also.
After doing all this, charge your device to 100 percent and then use normally till it hits 10 percent. Then share your battery stats.

thanks for the tweak will report it back
Here's another issue: Roughly one hour after unplugging, used it at home, within WiFi range. Only Chrome and Tapatalk, 45mins SOT. 9% battery missing, but only 3% showing up here.
Edit: With time, the gap between actual battery status, and per-app usage stats gets bigger and bigger. Here's @ 70%, with app usage only giving 19% altogether.
