HTC One Mini plastic? - HTC One Mini

What do you think from these photos? Plastic case or aluminium?

HTC spends a lot of time talking up the aluminum unibody in the full-size One. It'd be a shame if they threw that out with a smaller model.

no, the Mini has the plastic frame on the sides extended to the front, but the back is still metal as well as the speaker covers which fit inside the plastic frame now

so the back and the two front pieces are aluminium?

Yes with the sides being aluminum which run around the design meaning the top, bottom and sides are plastic.

Woops I made a mistake I first said the sides are aluminum then I said it was plastic I meant plastic. The only thing I didn't know is the speaker grill is plastic.

I'd say the speaker grill is aluminium, too
It doesnt feel like plastic, it feels just like the back cover of the phone.

Does the tmobile sensation screen protector lift at the edges?

I was wondering if the screen protector at the tmobile store leaves air at the edges like all other screen protectors
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Have them install it there. It only covers the display screen, it doesn't go over the full screen. It doesn't reach the round edges.
Your display is made from Gorilla Glass. You don't need a screen proctor, unless you don't like being able to see your screen clearly.
I use a invisible shield. I hate how the screen is curved at the border.
Yes. It lifts up around the edges over time. At least mine did.

Doesn't mean it's scratch-proof. I have phamtomskinz on and it's still clear.

oh so its smaller than the ones that are sold on ebay?
like they don't go all the way to the curves so it doesn't bubble up?

IIRC, the T-Mobile ones don't go to the curved edges.
I've used the official HTC ones and they cover the curved edges. They are so precisely cut its a pain in the arse to get them on! Not easy to get the edges down though. If you want one that is easy for the edges, look at liquid application ones.

The original skin supplied with my Sensation fit the screen perfectly. Unfortunately, the store rep did a less than stellar job of applying it. It was peeling up within a week. The aftermarket skins TMO sells do not cover the entire screen. So I purchased a Skinomi skin.

I have the official HTC one and mine doesnt cover the entire screen. Theres a 1mm gap from the edges of the screen. Maybe they redesigned them? It was pretty easy to put on and its been a week and no edges have come up yet, although I did use a hair dryer to heat the SP before applying it and while it was applied.
How much of the screen does it cover? Like just the part where the actual screen is and the capacitive buttons?

I tried it and its not worth buying. First it only covers the flat area of the screen it doesn't cover the beveled edges, second no matter how careful you put the protector bubbles will still show up, third the protector can easily be scratched. So if I were you spend urs money on some other screen protector although I haven't found one yet that covers the whole screen.

Yes they do lift at the edges and get air underneath I still have the original screen protecter that came with mine I'm looking into a higher quality screen protecter now

Same here I got my phone replaced and still have the plastic on the screen that came with the phone. I hope somebody will point us to what screen protector that covers the screen from edge to edge that does not lift nor bubble
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
I've had the T-Mobile protector since the release of the phone on TMO, and while there were some slight issues on application that caused the tiniest bubble in the top-right corner of my screen, I have not had any issues since then.
The protector is not peeling and is still as rock-solid as the first day. It doesn't cover the complete front face of the phone, however. There's about 2-3 millimeters of edge around the phone where the glass curves upward (that design, while nice looking, really kills most screen protectors).
screen protecter
The srceen protector is to protect the main screen as we all know is plastic gorilla glass is plastic and it isn't scractch resistant

Cheap plastic bezel

Man for a premium phone this has a cheap plastic plated top bezel around the screen that scratches and dings very easily. A week old and a couple of spots show the black plastic under he thin plating....Great phone but may be going back as my wifes MT4G is all metal.....
Shame on you HTC ya cheeped out on the case.
Buy the body glove. My phone is in great shape.

Removing scratches from unibody?

Hi guys
After about two weeks of using a case and now taking it off i've realised how nice this phone is to hold. I was wondering whether it was possible to remove scratches from aluminium as the unibody design is covered in tiny scratches!
If the only option is sanding or something like that then I will have no choice but to switch back to the case
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
hey
i don't really think that sanding would be an option as the matte finish of the aluminium unibody cannot be reproduced by sanding (not by a DIY method by any means) the only result with sanding would be more scratches. plus, i think that the case is made out of painted aluminum and by sanding you would just expose the bare aluminium body, which i doubt is your aim. on the other hand, i've been using my DS for a few months now and so far no scratches have formed on my phone and i have never used a case, the only thing i do is make sure that it's placed in my pocket without other objects
cheers!
I concur with the previous post. Just keep coins, keys and any other scratch potential objects in a different pocket. I too have recently took the case off my phone and it feels soooooooo nice to hold.

Painting Black and white speck case?

Has anyone considered painting the black and white speck case? I like the way the case feels in my hand but not a huge fan of the cow look.
Looks like that's a no. Guess I'll give it a shot and see how it goes

No go on the plastidip. When I went to pull the tape off the plastidip started peeling off the white parts even after cutting with a sharp knife
If you're using plasti-dip, here are some useful pointers I use when I dip my car:
Use an abrasive: If you rough up the area you want to dip with a fine grit sandpaper, it gives the plasti-dip more surface area to cling to. Add more layers and you're left with a smooth finish. Only disadvantage is that if you peel off the dip, you're back to a rough surface. I only do this to high gloss pieces that I want to dip. 99% of the time, i just clean thoroughly with dish soap and water.
Multiple coats: Even if it's a small job, put about 6-9 thin coats rather than 2-4 thick coats. This goes along well with my next tip.
Multiple tape layers: If you want clean edges without the dip peeling off with the tape, stack 2 layers of tape on top of each other. Remove the top layer right after you spray as it's much easier to make clean edges when the dip is wet than trying to cut when dry. Wait about 5 mins for the dip to dry enough and add a new piece of tape back for the next coat. The final coat can be done with just the first layer. The trick here is to line the tape up as best you can, though plasti-dip can be forgiving.
Good luck!

S View cover makes phone about 1mm thicker

The back cover is actually thicker than stock battery cover by 1mm so it also protects the lens that sticks out. Woohoo!

Just saw in person. It does not protect the camera lens any better. It protects it exactly the same. The stock battery just has a "dip" effect surrounding the lens then curves up towards the lens leading it to be exactly the same protection as the sview cover. The sview cover has no "dips" and is just flat all around

The stock battery cover, even with the dip exposes the lens to touch first when laid on its back

How thick is this? Samsung site shows it at 11mm thick which is more than the s3 flip cover which is surprising since it is thinner
