Before porting any rom, i do advise to go through few tutorials to see how android is build etc.
Basically you try to port a rom from any device, but it is strongly recommended to port rom from a similiar spec device.

Lol
its entirely different
S2 has exynos
S2p has broadcomm
Entire soc is different

Well, it wouldn't be too much of a problem at all. Porting devices with Cyanogenmod as a base is easy, a lot of tutorials available... but make sure the device has the same resolution and the ROM you're trying to port is also based on Cyanogenmod (AOKP, PA, PAC, MIUI etc.).

But i could install S2 rom to S2+? or better not even to try?

If you're asking about the galaxy S3 i think it would be helpful if you actually used the galaxy S3 forum instead of the galaxy 3 forum.

For GS3, U shudn't post in dis forum as its a G3 forum...
For G3, there r lots of ROMs in froyo,gb,ics n even jb, out dere which u can try...
But i prefer GB ROMs over the others as dey maintain a strict balance between features and stability...
I've tried Kyrillos 10.6, Kisadworx ,CM7.2 n many more...For daily use, i found Pranjal's ROM v2.3 to be the best of all !:good:
Coz it doesnt compromise with performance and battery backup...as others do..

[Q] Porting

Hi guys, sorry if I'm posting in an incorrect section, I have a question for you.. if I want to port for example CM10 to a device which now has only gingerbread, how can I do it? I've seen many tutorials about porting but they said that the port works only for the same android version as the base rom..

you can't port roms like this..the hardware configurations must be similar of the phones...
and then there are more things like resolution...search for a tut on xda!
So I must take a CM10 from a device that has this rom and also has same resolution and hardware configuration, no?

Resolution is not a must.. But it is preferable to port from phone of same resolution!

Sorry for asking so many questions but I want to start deving and porting.. for example, my phone has only GingerBread 2.3.6 , if I find a CM10 rom of another phone that has the same hardware and resution, can I port that rom ? This is what I didn't understand from many tutorials I have seen..

[Q] Best kernel for battery life?

Hello everyone,
I am running CM10 stable build on my Skyrocket and I'm looking for the best kernel for extended battery life. Could you suggest any?
I took a look at the faux123 kernel but thats only for ROMs built on Gingerbread.
Thanks in advance,
Wozzi7

Try kernels for cm10 for yourself and find out. Best threads are frond upon

As jd said try some different kernels. Although recognize that great battery life can be achieved on stock kernel. Your settings are more important than the kernel you use.

I apologize for starting a 'best thread'.
My understanding of kernels is that they are hardware specific, meaning they are meant for specific devices... right?
Or are they software specific i.e. only works for cm10, paranoid android, etc.?

Hardware. Only flash what's specific for your device or you will brick. Also specific to the Rom type. Ie, cm 10, touch wiz, etc.

Hardware specific ie Skyrocket only and software specific. Software wise they are broken down into 2 categories: Samsung touch wiz only or aosp only. Sounds like you need to do a bit of reading. Take the time to read about kernels before flashing, as flashing the wrong one will brick your device.
Edit: jd beat me to the submit button.

its a comeback, saying google said that now android will be optimized to run on older devices. They are trying to get the latest versions of android on all android phones, not just nexus devices:laugh:
But it would be great if google made a generic build, like how ubuntu is. It could install on any device

first we'll need 10.2 though, but hopefully if we do get 4.4, when we get cm10.3 we wont have to flash stock firmware first. Im oping for some official builds*

not really, if they just made a developer version, where users would have to install the correct wifi, bluetooth, etc. drivers, something like installing a fresh windows 7:laugh:

if s ii plus will receive 4.4 that would be awesome because i will keep it for next 3 years :good:
but it's bad for companies like Samsung
so it won't update to 4.4
that's my logic
if cm does support our device,i wont mind not getting official 4.4 from samsung (my old ace official fw stop at gb,but xda support made it last till 4.2 )

I really don't understand why s2+ is legacy while s2 forum is full of activity, roms and posts. Just my curiosity and frustration..s2+ is newer than s2, isn't it? Newer and not better?
Really?? I have one queation for you. If you had the s2 will you trade it with s2 plus? The devices is about the same with little differences...

little difference by him mean performance wise, but internal chipset are completely different.
well,i think since cm/aosp rom are not yet complete,i think it's hard to port any rom to this phone for now.

No,9100 released two years ago, hence got a big user/community/developer,making custom rom are easy to find, cause alot of people develop for it. Our device got small amount of user(vs millions of 9100 user),hence finding dev among us are hard .
