little rant...
What really annoys me about this and many cases is the lack of thought around the camera on the back. They leave a slot for it on the back peice of the case which is great, but when you open it up to actually take a photo, you need to hold the case like an open book as there isnt a slot on the front peice. I dont intend on using the camera much but having to hold the front flap out of the way of the lens while trying to get composition, focus and release the shutter is a pain in the bum! If I could flip the front all the way round to the back and hold it flush with the back, that would be far more convenient.

+1!
What also bothers me a little is the slit in the front flap of the case... for US owners, it looks like a mistake since we don't have that speaker there. Other than that, very happy with the quality, low profile and details - rubber footings for landscape upright position, magnet to hold front flap as prop in "keyboard" mode. A little expensive but I did the round about with case buying with the tab 10.1 and ultimately liked the official book case most.
Cases are available at BestBuy and B&H.

Picked one up at Best Buy last night. Absolutely prefer this over the Moko i just got. Only thing missing compared to other cases is a loop for a larger stylus and it's not heavy enough where it needs a handstrap.
I don't care about a camera hole on the front flap (to take pictures when the flap is folded over) as rear camera on this is more vestigial to my tablet use.
I do have issues with trying to stand it up the tall way with the cover - it sometimes wont hold the stand form and flips the tablet down.
This may get easier as it breaks in. There is no clasp magnetic or otherwise that holds the screen cover closed so it will fly open at times.
The tablet is protected on 3 corners (except the one that holds the stylus, obviously), completely covers the plastic back except for camera hole and front flap is thin but should protect the screen well enough in a bag. I like the clean design and it does raise the "premium" feel of the tablet in hand by covering up all the plastic.
I think if you care about adding the least bulk to the unit while still having a means of protecting it a bit, I think it does well.
BTW, if you had the 7.7 and the OEM cover for that, this cover is almost exactly like it - except this front flap is even thinner than the one on that one and can fold to help it stand. The 7.7 form fitting case that Samsung made could only stand by reversing the case flap and it would always fall over.

I bought it from Best Buy as well, it's not my first choice of cases, but it's probably the best out there now. Just too expensive, but I need protection for this unit. I'm hoping Seidio makes a case but I don't think this tablet will sell that well. I hope I'm wrong but it's fairly expensive. I think it is worth it but I have terrible judgment and love electronics.

Just curious, what colors are people getting? I picked up a white one at BB, but thinking about exchanging it for the black...

Every portable device I've owned since my first Walkman, with the exception of my 3rd gen iPod in 2004, has been black, so the white device and matching white case is a welcome change for me.

I couldn't take it anymore and exchanged for the black, lol. The all-white look was burning my eyes.

Picked this up today and it's going back. I do like how thin it is, but I notice the cover has a habit of bowing just enough to wake up the tablet and it's just close enough that it keeps waking it up. Case would be fine without the sleep/wake feature. Anyone know of a good knockoff without the magnet?

You might like the STM Cape. It is a bit different, but appears to be very good quality, and it is less expensive and fairly light weight (judging by specs as I don't have one yet):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251888
I asked them and they confirmed it does not come with a magnet for wake/sleep. Personally that has disappointed me, but you provide a good example of where it can be a good thing to not have wake/sleep.
I've asked STM a few more questions that I'm waiting to hear back on, including what kind of padding is embedded in the front cover. Something that has concerned me about the official Samsung Book Cover is that the front cover seems so thin that I wonder how much protection it would really provide (particularly from any impact). The STM Cape appears to have some kind of stiff material (padding?) in between the outer layer and the soft inner lining. I'll post in the Cape thread whenever I hear back about that.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I don't mind thin. I never do anything that would damage a device like a phone or tablet anyway. Mostly I just want it for scratch protection since it could slide around in my briefcase and what-not.

I'm ordering this case from ebay. Looks more stable then samsung case.

If you haven't already ordered I'd recommend having a look at the following thread that was a bit negative about the KLD:

The MoKo Ultra Slim Lightweight Smart-shell Stand Case mentioned in that same thread sounds more promising (in my opinion).

I have just ordered this one from ebay:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=121107475861
(I cannot post links yet, you'll need to copy and paste in your web browser)
It is cheap and looks slim and similar to the KLD one and it has a magnetic tab to keep it securely closed.
According to the description it supports "auto sleep and wake up when close and open" but I am not sure if I believe it. I can always open a dispute if it is not true

This does look like a winner. Not extremely please about the Samsung case, regarding the inability to stand it up or keep the flap closed.

Ipad2 Style Smart Cover

SG Tab 8.9 accessories are hard to come by. I have been in search for a case/pouch for a while and I could not even source for the official cases. So the other day I came across a Chinese made case for 8.9 and picked it as there is absolutely no other choice in my location. Turns out that the case is fit for the purpose. The idea is borrowed from Ipad2 Smart Cover but who cares for concepts as long as the case does the job?
The (Smart***)case is same as the ones found in this following website. I picked the Grey one......
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-f...-Cover-Stand-Case-Cover-Skin-wholesalers.html
I had the same, but really didn't like it. There's a lot of extra rubber on the side, with no purpose at all.

same here - ok for a minimum of protection in a pouch or bag.
But the quality is poor. I am very content with the blurex. Good Quality, reasonable price, stable and no unnescessary cover around the display.

Your Blurex case; when you open the cover, does it fold back flat against the bottom? Mine didn't, it stayed open at about a 20 degree angle. I didn't know if it was a design problem or isolated issue, so I sent it back and tried the Vipertek. The Vipertek doesn't have a problem folding back flat.
no, same here, 10 Degree tilt.
But I give it some time, i am sure it will come down
Is the vipertek of the same quality? So, this might be the better choice.

I am using this one since I got the GTab, got it at Best Buy. So far so good, but I had to do two little mods to make it perfect for my needs: I cut it to make it a bit more open in the area where the VOL buttons go since the black "leather" opening bothered when trying to press the VOL buttons. I also included some tape on the sides inside to make a tighter fit for the tab (when the tab slipped from the right side a bit, that tape helped).

I second the blurex case (or whatever name it goes under, I happen to have gotten one that is not branded.) The case is verstile and seems to be holding up.
this case looks a lot like the pyroskins case that I have for my galaxy tab 10.1.
I can only assume that from the pics i see on amazon but everything about it looks the same. pyroskins is a very good case for daily activities.

Yeah, I bought 2 of these. And you know what? they are surprisingly good.
The white moulded plastic that surrounds the back of tab is really cheap, and never matches the outer colour of cover (unless you get white). But protection is on all corners, and the flap is slim and well made.
If they could do something better than 'just' gluing the cover/flap to the back of the white plastic, they could charge double or triple and I'd be all over it.
Worth the money. And both angles are useable and easy to achieve.
I bought this one too and it works well for me.
The blurex case was way to thick for me. That and it not folding back completely were my two main problems with it and why I didn't use it
I use an orange knock off smart cover now, it is much better for me than the blurex.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 book cover case review with wake and sleep mode

To anyone who picked one up, how does it feel in terms of bulk? Also, when the cover is folded over, does it lay flush with the spine or does the flap stick out?

It is very thin, as thin as my nexus 4, and feels like a father compared to my original xoom
the cover is just like the s3 flip cover but it snaps on the back instead of replacing the battery cover
and it triggers auto on and off like the ipad smart cover
Caved in and picked up the cover on the way home today. Some initial thoughts:
1) The case adds no real bulk to the device itself. The backplate and the screen flap are both super thin, so even when folded over, it's doable for someone like me who hates cases.
2) Because its all so thin, however, it does feel sorta cheap. If this suffers from the same build issues I've read the S3 version has, I don't have high hopes that it's going to last long.
3) The screen on/off thing is awesome. The sensor part of this is actually along the spine, not the edge of the flap. Not a complaint, just an observation.
4) When folded over, there is a bit of a "lip" around the spine. I can't say I love this, but it doesn't really impact the way I hold the device.
5) The "stand" feature is alright and seems stable enough as long as you use it in the single position it was designed for. I do with it had a few more angle options.
Verdict? Meh. It's not a bad case, and I don't intend to return mine, but had I been given the opportunity to play with one before, I don't think I would have spent the extra $50. At half that price, it wouldn't change my opinion, but I'd be far less disappointed.
I have the book cover for my 8.0 and it is not very heavy, acts like a stand and turns the Note on and off when I open and close it. Very convenient. Got mine on Amazon for $5.99. Thought I would give it a try for that amount . So far very happy with it.

The only one I see on Amazon for that price is the IVSO version. What I hate about those cases is how you actually have to put the tablet inside and wraps around the front. The official book cover simply snaps onto the back of the Note 8.

I bought that same cover and also bought a similar one:
http://www.amazon.com/Dealgadgets-S...&qid=1366425979&sr=8-2&keywords=Galaxy+note+8
They both look essentially the same and add about the same bulk.
Major difference is that the Moko cover has auto wake, soft inside material, hand holder, and the pen holder doesn't interfere with IR. But it reeks! I mean it smells so bad I couldn't keep it in the same room with me. I left it outside overnight and it is still off gassing.
The Dealgadget cover has no weird smell. But also no wake function, no softer inside material, no hand holder. The pen holder is in a better location except if you plan to use the IR function. It is on the side of the tablet and I found it interferes with the IR.
So I ended up ordering the Samsung cover from this site. Since its coming from Hong Kong it will probably take a couple of weeks to get it. But I can't justify spending $50 for a cover. (Even though I probably will have spent close to $50 before I find one I like).
http://dx-box.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?cat=364&q=Galaxy+Note+8.0
I never purchased from this site before so I can't vouch for them yet.
I also have the upcoming Poetic case on order since its only $5. But it's not due to ship till May.
good one

When looking for some case reviews I stumbled over http://galaxynote8cases.com/ and they actually seem to have some good reviews. The only thing that is a real pain with the Note 8 is that it's tough to find any accessories for it.
I just got the white book case cover, its perfect for people who are careful with their electronics but like that extra layer to prevent scratches. Adds virtually zero weight.

Thats the big selling point for me here. The absolute lack of bulk on this is awesome. I only wish this had two more features:
1) A magnetic hold when the front flap is covering the screen.
2) Another magnetic hold for the flap when its folded over the back.

There is a slight hold on the front side, as to not make it appear flimsy. When you flip it around back it "gives" a bit easier to fit snugly. Hard to explain, but clearly well designed.

KLD Smart Flip Review [With Pics- UPDATE AFTER USE]

I received the KLD case off ebay not too long ago. The case came about a week after I placed an order (this includes weekend days). So first things first, the case is well made. I remember someone had expressed that the back stitching may be of concern but I looked at it and it looks like it will hold up just fine with moderate use.
I mentioned in my other review thread that this case is a major disappointment. The reason being is because I bought the case thinking it would have the auto wake/sleep feature. This case does NOT support this feature. Because of the lack of magnets in this case, it leads to a second major disappointment. The cover even when closed will flap around if you were to have it in your bag.
Because it is PU leather, it does smell VERY plastic like.
Finally, I chose to have the white option, if you take a look at the link, you will see that its a very pure white color. However, the cover I received is beige NOT white at all.
In conclusion, do I like this case? No, not at all. I can't recommend it to anyone. This is a cheaper alternative to the Samsung Book Cover (though I don't know if the official book cover supports the wake/sleep feature).
Pros
-Slim
-Nice cut outs (look at pics below)
-Not too expensive- I paid only $16.50 (free shipping)
Cons
-Does NOT have wake/sleep feature
-Cover does NOT stay in place because of the lack of magnets
-Bad smell even after leaving it in the open for 3 days
-The case I bought is WHITE, this case is clearly BEIGE
I give the case a 4/10. The quality is great but the lack of features that many other cases have for a cheaper price hampers it's overall rating.
Finally my search for a perfect slim case isn't over- I bought yet another case from Moko- that looks great. I'll post up yet another review when it's out. Check it out here! :

Thanks for sharing this great review! It is too bad the KDL wasn't very good after all. And I'm surprised it did not support wake/sleep.

That does look really promising! It clearly has a magnetic closure and uses magnets to hold the stand in place. And I like the broad assortment of colors.
A few other observations (about the MoKo Ultra Slim Lightweight Smart-shell Stand Case), just from looking at the pics, etc. on Amazon:
It appears that the shell is a bit thicker than other cases I've considered. In fact, it seems from the pictures like the shell is thick enough that the camera lens is actually recessed (instead of sticking out); I'm not 100% certain as it could just be an unintentional optical illusion. But if the camera lens is recessed that could be nice for protecting the lens a little bit. On the other hand though I do wonder about added weight and how that will feel (ie, if it will be noticeably heavier?). The Galaxy Note 8 weighs 11.7 ounces (338g) and I believe the official Samsung Book Cover weighs 3.2 ounces (90.72g), which makes for 14.9 ounces total (just shy of a 1lb, which seems like a decently light amount). The Amazon page indicates a weight of the MoKo at 5oz, which (if correct) is just a little heavier than the Samsung case, so hopefully not enough to be noticeable.
I don't see any mention of wake/sleep being supported. But I know you mentioned the other Moko case you tried did support wake/sleep, so hopefully this one does too!
I wonder how well the PU leather is going to hold up to folding the front cover flat against the back. It seems that would put a bit of stress on the part that will be bending around the case so I wouldn't be surprised to see cracking start rather quickly in that area (depending on the quality).
I just noticed in one of the pictures (the one for the white color, where a hand is holding the case in the air, demonstrating the magnets holding the stand in a triangle) that the GN8 is popping out of the case a little (in the bottom right of the picture). Hopefully that was just an oversight on their part as they were swapping out cases for the pictures, and not actually indicative of a loose fit. Pictures of the other colors appear to be fitting snugly in those same poses.
I look forward to your next review! I think I'm down to considering the above Moko and the Poetic Slimline (mentioned by someone else). I'll keep my fingers crossed that this Moko will be significantly better than the other one you reviewed! :fingers-crossed:

Hey, that's great to hear--this case really sounds promising!
I have one of these as well. I got a light blue one. I really like it except for the lack of magnets. I WANT sleep wake and would like for it to stay in place. Also I found that if I put it in my bag and it is kind of full it will turn the screen on and run the battery down.
Thats total crap if sellers are saying these things are "smart wake" when they aren't. I was hoping mine would arrive soon, but if it isn't going to work then looks like I'll be looking elsewhere.

and it is a major disappointment - totally agree with OP. But, does anyone know exactly where the magnet should go? It should be possible to attach a slim, rubberized magnetic on the case in a discrete manner so as not to make the case totally ugly but yet turn on the Note?

I think from some videos I saw (a few weeks ago) of the official Samsung Book Cover case that it seemed like the magnet must be somewhere on the left side as the wake/sleep seemed to be triggered by movement on the left side as opposed to the right side being lifted (which perhaps might be done in order avoid errant wake/sleep events since the right side can slide around some on some cases?). My guess is that the magnet would be somewhere within the bezel area and not under the screen proper. The reason being is that the Wacom technology works in part through electromagnetic fields (if I'm remembering correctly) and I would imagine that a wake/sleep magnet would somehow complicate that. So if you have a magnet to experiment with you could try running it around the bezel (starting with the left side) and see if you can trigger the wake/sleep. If it were me I'd start in the middle of the left bezel (when in portrait orientation).
If you don't have a magnet on hand you could also try various metal objects that are capable of carrying a magnetic charge as some technology works by responding the disruption/change of a magnetic field, which doesn't actually require another magnet, but just an object with enough of a hint of its own natural field to cause a change (I believe this is how some stoplights work here in the US, where there are wires in the ground to notify the stoplight a car is waiting, because the car disrupts/changes the electromagnetic field of the wire). I'm not totally sure if this principal can work on this small of a scale or not, but it could be worth a shot for some limited experiments.

Looks like my hunches were incorrect.

Yea I thought so too when I ordered. If it's the KLD you ordered, I can definitely confirm that it doesn't support that function. I FINALLY got my sale disputed
Update
Even though I didn't like this case, I wanted to use it because it was slim. So while I waited for the Moko Shell (which I use now) I used the KLD everday for a solid week.
3 more things I've noticed that makes it even worse!
1- extended use with the cover as a stand eventually makes the cover pop up and as far as I've seen, it hasn't been able to flatten back out properly
2- Because this case lacks the sleep/wake function, you have to turn on the tablet with either the power button (or home). Unfortunately, I guess KLD really wanted to add that protection there- so there's a bezel above the power button- but this makes pressing the volume & power button a lot more difficult!
3- Finally, folding the cover back is also a problem. The stitching for the cover looks nice but when it's folded, it makes the tablet poof up (notice the rather big gap in the folded area- not present on other cases). Writing on the tablet with the cover folded back causes a "bouncy" feel.

Thanks for the additional followup and pics! All 3 of those things are very helpful to know!
Unfortunately, I ordered the KLD case a few days before reading this thread. It seems nice enough. Its the style I like. But I only popped my Note in and out of it. I didn't use it for any length of time. I had also ordered a Rock Mix case and that's what I'm using. It does have sleep/wake function. I filed a complaint with the KLD seller and he initially offered a full refund if I sent the case back (with him paying shipping) or $5.00 refund. He then sent another offer to refund me 100% and let me keep the case if I gave him positive feedback. I accidently accepted the $5.00 offer. That's fine though because I wanted to keep the case. It's stored away as a backup.

STM's "Cape" for the Note 8

This is an excellent looking case.

A couple of thoughts, observations and questions:
The fabric looks like a potentially nice alternative to the PU Leather that many cases use, and I would think/hope that it might hold up better. Do you or others have any experience with cases of this material (from this maker)?
I like that the fabric provides some water resistance. PU Leather probably does too, but I would guess water would more quickly damage PU Leather.
I wonder if the fabric will attract lint or dirt/dust easily and/or how easy it is to keep clean?
The "loop" enclosure is intriguing. Does anyone have any experience with this approach, and if so, I'd be interested in how well it performs regarding: a) Ease of use for opening and closing, and b) Effectiveness for the "viewing modes" (ie, stand positions)?
I'd love to see some pictures of the "viewing modes" / stand positions, if anyone comes across any.
It does not mention wake/sleep functionality, which is a deal breaker for many (probably myself included). Does anyone know if this maker tends to support wake/sleep?
I just did a quick search on the STM site and I saw that an iPad case supported wake/sleep, and there's also some pics of the "viewing modes" which are probably similar to how the Cape will work: http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/laptop-accessories/skinny-ipadmini/. However, since the Cape does not mention wake/sleep that doesn't bode well (unless it is just an oversight that they don't mention it).

It's too early to tell on the sleep/wake functions, but I am guessing it likely will. I've sent an email to STM asking about it.
As for the fabric, the fabric is insanely good. I have a laptop bag made of the same material, and water just rolls off it. It also stays very clean. It's basically ripstop-nylon.

I really like the sound of that!
I'm still not sure what I think of the "loop" enclosure method. I just watched a video of the iPad case (that I previously linked to) and I think I (and others) might have a different definition of "quick and easy access" (as I watched the presenter take several seconds to pull the loop out and open the case). Having said that though, if one is primarily using the loop for when closing the case for travel and/or for the viewing modes that feels a bit different (and it is probably more secure than a lot of other cases). But the thought of messing with that loop every time I opened/closed the case doesn't feel very appealing.
Well, I do hope the case supports wake/sleep because if it does it will definitely make my list of contenders.
I'd sure like to see what the hold-down mechanism looks like.
Last night I finally got two cases I'd ordered, a 5 buck case from Exact Deals and a 15 buck case from iBlason.
Both are annoying to work with given the capacitive buttons (and the blason case also interferes with the front camera.)
The e-d case is one of the ones where you drop the device into a sleeve inside a book cover. It doesn't do sleep/wake and there's a bit of a gap along the closing spine - not a great fit.
The blason case uses a total of 6 leather wrapped metal "fingers" to hold the device into the back. 6, because the two closest to the spine are detached if you want to use the ribs on the inside front cover as supports in landscape easel mode.
I took sidecutters and cut two of the fingers off, since one was interfering with the back button and one was interfering with the camera. That said, you can easily easel the device spine up rather than on the inside cover and I like the case better overall, at least until the Poetic slimline's available.
exact deal:
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-BaseBo...Y4BM/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A29LLD0WGS56WE
iBlason:
http://www.amazon.com/i-Blason-Sams...DEMS/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A209HAH4Z0MGU9
But be aware - Exact Deal has a very similar or identical case (which I didn't see until just now) for 5 bucks. Ah, well.
The Poetic Slimline's not available til mid-May and I'd already done my own drop test twice (4 feet, onto a wood floor, minor scratch on the camera lens, oops) - I'm just glad to have a case at all, even if it's not a good one. I can try 5 more before I've spent as much as Samsung wanted to charge.
IMO, Samsung should be charging much less for this device. And they will, too - the galaxy player 5 started retailing at 269, and apparently now lists at 219.00.
Or if they want to charge 400, they should throw in some kind of case and the device should be available in 32 gig and 64 gig configurations - no reason for a tablet to have a 16 gig base at this time, especially when it's coming from one of the largest memory manufacturers in the world.

If you mean for the Cape then I suggest that you have a look at the following (which is for iPad, and which I mentioned above, but seems to be of a similar design):
http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/laptop-accessories/skinny-ipadmini/
There's also a short video on that page that I found helpful in getting a feel for how the Cape might function.
I just saw that STM has added a bunch more pictures of their Cape:
http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/samsung-case/cape-samsung-galaxy-note-8/
No mention of Wake/Sleep functionality though. I'll be really disappointed and confused if they chose to omit wake/sleep as that would seem like such a big oversight in my opinion.
I don't know if you contacted Poetic but I was wondering when the slimline I ordered late April would ship. They offered me a refund since they didn't make the original May 1st date or to just hang in until it ships. The latest the informed me it should ship is May 20th.

I had emailed STM last week to ask some questions about some of their bags and so I also asked about the Cape case for the Note 8 regarding whether it supports wake/sleep or not. I just heard back from them and the Cape does not support wake/sleep. I'm very bummed as this otherwise seems like a really good case.

Have you received your Cape yet? Whenever you do, a few things I'd love to hear about are:
How well does the front cover fold flat against the back? Apparently there's been some issues with some of the iPad cases not folding flat against the back, but the STM Skinny for Note 10.1 seems to work better (eg, http://static.stmbags.com/media/productExtra/DSC_3262_admin_large.jpg). If you can post a pick of your opened with the cover folded flat against the back that'd be greatly appreciated!
Does the front cover seem to have any padding inside it and regardless, how well do you think the front cover will protect the screen from impacts?
What are your impressions of the outer fabric material?
Does the outer material seem like it should hold up well to resisting dirt, dust, pet hair, etc.?
What color did you get? (no need to answer this if you post pics)
Anything else you want to share about your feelings about the case?
Thanks!!
The reason why it doesn't support it is because the magnets damage the digitizer over time. I just read in another thread about the Slimline and switched back to my KayCase. I think I'll pick this one up since it doesn't use a magnet.

I emailed Radtech with some of my questions about the Cape case and thought I'd share what I learned.
1) The cover does fold flat against the back, and Radtech even sent me a picture (see below).
2) Ratech reply:
The cover's of the Cape and Skinny cases have a rigid sheet of 20mil PET laminated between the outer and inner layers - this forms a hard layer that provides very good impact protection for the screen of the installed tablet.
Click to collapse
3) & 4) I haven't received my Cape case yet, but the following is what Radtech shared about the material:
The fabric, Velocity Poly, possesses a pleasing texture with a visible depth. Does not attract hair more than other polyester synthetics, and has a good degree of liquid resistance and is easy to clean. Polyester is tough to stain, so performs well in that regard.
Click to collapse
Additionally, I had asked Radtech about any differences between the Ripstop and Velocity materials. The newer bags and cases by STM use the Velocity Poly material. The following are Radtech's replies:
Water resistance: Both perform well here - Ripstop better at shedding water droplets due to it's flat, smooth surface (no texture like Velocity).
Dirt resistance (including dust, lint, hair, etc.): Comparable resistance to soiling, both easily cleanable. Hair cling would be less likely with Ripstop, but Velocity by no means a hair magnet.
Durability: Comparable
Any other differences: Ripstop is more more abrasion resistant (visually) - both score roughly equal in a rub-through test, Ripstop will just look unaffected longer.

Based on all that and the good things I've heard about Radtech and STM I've gone ahead and ordered a Cape case (I decided to go with gray). I also ordered a STM Linear for iPad bag (black) from Radtech as well (for carrying my new Note 8 around in).
I just wanted to give a quick update: I received my STM Cape (color gray) today and my initial impressions are very positive. I'm impressed with how well constructed and solid it feels, without adding any noticeable bulk and barely noticeable weight. Everything that RadTech shared with me (posted earlier in this thread) seems spot on regarding the quality and nature of the materials.
So my initial review is two thumbs up :good: :good: both for the STM Cape (an excellent product) and for RadTech (whom has exhibited great costumer service in the several email interactions I've had with them).

Received mine yesterday, it's great. The only tiny little minor dislike I have is the 'tongue' flap, which imo could be bit more elastic, but I think it'll soften and adjust with time.
Sent from my GT-N5100 using xda premium
I received mine last Thursday. Here's a quick review:
Loved:
++Texture of the material is top notch. It is pretty water, stain and dirt resistant.
++Build quality is excellent. Doesn't feel cheap at all. Plastic is sturdy. ++The innards where the case meets the back of the device is soft to the touch.
++The back of the case is thick enough so the back camera doesn't ever contact the surface if ever laid flat.
++No magnets.
Liked:
+There is access to all the hardware keys and any ports.
+Clasp tongue is secure closure.
Indifferent:
>The clasp is a bit stiff.
>View mode is a little shakey. It might fall over if in view mode and interfacing with touch.
Dislike:
-Some sides of the device are stop exposed.
-Hardware home button can accidentally pressed. This is very annoying sometimes.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using XDA Premium HD app
Thought I'd share another cool thing I discovered about this case. You can fold the front cover in such a way that the outside of the cover is always what is exposed instead of the inside being exposed to the tabletop or to your hands. This is great because it avoids the problem of you setting the Note down (while open) on a surface and not realizing there is dust/debris and then that sticking to the soft inside cover and then being transmitted to the screen. Using the method in the below pics the soft inside cover is never exposed to anything other than itself and the Note screen, thus providing optimal protection.
This also has the additional benefit of not covering the camera which means you can more easily take pictures with the cover open.
You'll see in the attached pics that folding the cover this way makes it stick out a little to the left, but I actually find that pretty comfortable as it gives more to hold on to. This method actually feels more stable and comfortable to me than the more traditional method of folding the cover completely flat against the back (without my extra fold). I don't know if this design feature happened by accident, but I think they (STM/Radtech) should totally emphasize this way of holding the device as I find it to work really well.
I am really so pleased with this case overall. The only thing I would improve/change is to give a bit more coverage on some of the sides, but that would of course add a little more weight. The case does a good job of covering the 3 corners (the 4th corner holds the S-Pen), which are probably most important, but I would have taken a little more side and bottom coverage if they had provided it.
Overall a great case! And it comes with a lifetime warranty too!

Galaxy S4 S View Cover

Hey all, anyone else noticed on these Samsung Flip cases, they dont stay flush to the screen, in the case of the S view cover you would think the magnet would help keep it closed but no its just a trigger for the sensor. Bit expensive for what it is given it's flawed design.
From what I hear its great once you've broken it in
s view cover is a best cover for s4
I received mine today from handtec.. it fits and close perfectly.
I like this case but only grip it totally covers the led notification and coz of dat gotta keep checking if I missed a notification :banghead:

Interesting. I might just bite on one of those. Even though I don't think it's actuall the official one, it's probably about the same. I have a co-worker who spent $60 on hers and I wasn't really impressed with the build quality, though I do love the concept. But to me, it seemed more like a $15 cover anyway.

I have a new Samsung Galaxy S4 S-View Flip Cover Folio Case (Black) if anyone wants it in uk £25 delivered pm me I just got a new case in new condition only used once.
I bought this cover, and I like it ... it's the one thing keeping me away from trying an AOSP ROM (e.g. CM 10.1) ... Don't want to lose the window functionality.
I had an official Samsung S-View cover given free when I upgraded my contract.
Like others have said, the front cover didnt stay closed flush to the screen, but after a day or so "bedding it in" it now closes perfectly.
I find the case very good, and it's great that you can answer/reject calls etc sliding across the case window itself.
There are however 2 fundamental flaws with this case:
1. There is no hole for the notification LED (as already mentioned) I was contemplating drillling a hole through it to allow for this, but wit this case on and shut, the LED notification only ever lights up to show it's charging. The LED is disabled for missed calls/sms when the case is shut! This is a huge flaw of the S4+S-View combination in my opinion.
I'm hoping a future firmware update will address this, but as the cases being sold do not have this hole, I would be extremely surprised if this is done. Perhaps this may be a mod for some clever dev to do! :good:
2. The case greatly interferes with the devices ability to use any compass app. Open up a compass app and slowly open/shut the case and you will see the compass bearing alter considerably. This puts a huge doubt over the accuracy of such apps when this case is in the open position.
could be better
It should have had the led hole from factory. but that's samsung for ya..good ideas always seem to be an afterthought.. anyway.. i just drilled a hole in mine and it seemed to do the trick. sometimes it closes too well as can be a pain to open (to grip using fingers), but still a better case then most as it doesn't add much bulk or wait to the phone.
Nice case but minimum protection
I had flip cover case on my note 1, i dropped the phone once and the case didn't helped much to protect the phone from scratches on the side. Now i have S4 with the S view cover and similar thing happened, my case opened during fall and landed on the screen... As much as i like the flip cases they offer very little protection. I have to try different case for the upcoming Note 3. Any suggestions which case can offer solid protection?

I would definitely give the Spigen Slim Armor View a try. I just got this case in black and it's totally awesome. There are many threads in here discussing this case. I would like give links to them but not sure how to do it so I would just do a search. Tons of pics and reviews as well.
Excuse my late reply, I got this phone with a free S-cover a week ago. In my opinion the case build quality is crap. I've broken the cover in and it doesn't stay closed until I had to bend the cover to create a deeper crease. Now the cover is starting to misalign and become loose. Volume button is covered also. Sides are fraying.
When I first got it, I already thought, this case was not protective at all. The cover seemed as thick as a peice of cardboard, and there is no covering or shock absorption at all around the edges or back.
A week later I went to my local Asian variety store and bought a protective case for $6. Quality was 10x than the s-view cover and I'm not even exagerating. Imediatley switched cases. Save your money. Don't buy this.
If you want to the quality of s-view cover, a makeshift credit card wrapped in cloth works just as well.
Surprisingly, I was able to price-match an Amazon price at Target. I'm enjoying it but I hope it breaks in cause the flap not closing issue is a tad inconvenient.
Has anybody modded a tpu case too accomodate the S View cover?

Samsung or ....others?? Samsung is OK, others NOT
Please specify in your infos if you are talking abount a ORIGINAL SAM S-View (arround 35$ - 55$) or a cheapo 'SUMSUMG' or any other type of cheaper S-Views (ranging from 8$ to 25$)
I had a 'fake' S-View, which didn't stay closed, added thikness to the back cover, looked like 'cardboard', and, furthermore, if you folded it open completelly to the back of the phone, it activated the magnet!! So it was really 'crappy'
I now have a real S-View, and none of the above apply!
It closes (and stays closed) perfectlly from minute 1
It's exactlly as thick as the original cover
It has a 'cleanable plastic' finish
It can be open 360º to the back without activating the magnet
So... beware of fakes. It was difficult to tell, as they 'case' them as if original, but they're definitelly LOW QUALITY.
Can you buy a case that users s view front cover? Im used to it now but want a case? ??? Thanks
