Samsung-Branded Car dock - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

I am very hopeful that there will be a first-party car dock. I am currently using one on my Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy SII) and it is the best Car dock I've ever used. The USB plug is a sliding mechanism which means no having to plug the wire in and true one-handed use. Here is a video review of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8XNr7A91j0
I did some searching and it doesn't appear that Samsung made a car dock for the S3 so what do you think the possibility is of them making one for the S4?
EDIT... So I did a little more searching and it seems the S3 actually fits into the dock for the Infuse 4G. See here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTWn5DykwSE
Given that the S3 and S4 are so similar in size, it seems possible that this might be a decent solution. We'll have to just wait and see.

I have the Infuse 4G car dock for my S3 and I'm really hoping that it will work with the S4, or Samsung releases a car dock made for the S4.

If you are getting the S4, please post back here with your findings. I'd be very interested to know if it fits in that dock.

If Samsung can make a car dock for A TABLET, they can make one for the S4!

Infuse Car Dock owner since the Skyrocket, here's hoping it works for the THIRD phone in a row! dimensions are all but the same, the S4 is a little thinner but that's easy to resolve, my only question is in regard to those sharper corners.... but hey, the Skyrocket had those same straight(er) edges, let's make it happen!!!
It just has to work the same way as it has for the Skyrocket and SIII though for me to be 100% happy with it - the dock has to place the phone in car dock mode, which should occur, but anything could go wrong with this, it was a miracle IMO that the SIII worked in the dock after being designed for a phone prior to the SII, the Infuse!

I used the Infuse car dock with my Skyrocket for a while and it worked very well. The problem was that I had to take it out of my phone case every time I put it into the dock. It worked with a couple of the real thin cases, but it was real tight, and I didn't use those cases. I have also tried a couple of other docking options but what I found that works best is a Garvin Nuvi 200 car dock. I use the Seidio Active case and it works perfectly. Of course, it doesn't charge, or put anything into car mode. It is basically just a holder but it works very well. I can charge with the car charger and the camera is always open. I am hoping Samsung will release a car dock for the S4 that will work with certain cases, but if not, I think the Nuvi 200 holder will still work.

I definitely saw a placeholder for an official multimedia dock and vehicle dock for the S4 somewhere

Well..... this might be the wrong thread for you then, I highly doubt Samsung will make a dock that will allow for a case, and considering I never use cases to begin with, this is perfect for me, so it isn't really much of a problem in so much as it isn't for you
Also, the Garmin Nuvi "car dock" you speak of isn't a car dock at all if it doesn't charge or put the phone into car mode, it's just a $10 holder and that's that, nothing more

I'm not sure why you had to need to make a negative reply that added nothing additional to the thread. I quoted you so other readers might see the positive parts about using the Infuse dock (as both you and I stated) and the potential negatives of using it. I related my experience with the Infuse dock just as the OP and yourself did. I then added the fact that the Infuse dock doesn't work well with phone cases. Its great that you chose to not use a phone case, but many people do and they should probably know that it doesn't work well with most cases before they run out to get one. I clearly stated the fact that the Garmin mount didn't work as a true car phone dock (there was no need for you to mention it again). And, the Infuse dock is NOT a car dock either. It is a desk mount that people have used in their cars for Infuses, S2 Skyrockets, S3s, and possibly the S4. If I misinterpreted your post, I apologize, but I still fail to see the relevance of your reply.

Good lord, settle down! If people can't figure out by ALL the posts made for car docks that you can't use cases with official Samsung branded ones (just look back at the Skyrocket and SIII threads for people asking 2 and 3 times in there if a case fits while using the dock), then they need to search more! It's quite the common knowledge by now, so if we're having a hissy fit over who's post is more relevant by going into excruciating detail, then you should be looking more at your post....
Now, with that being said, I think you need to learn the difference between a CAR dock and a DESKTOP dock - pics will do the job for me in this case:

Infuse 4G DESKTOP dock (from Newegg)
No one was using the desktop docks in their cars, and furthermore, the car dock was NOT a desktop dock they used in their cars, it's a CAR dock, the suction cup is for the windshield or the dash, not designed for a desk though people used it for that because of how cheap it was.... just because something has an alternate use, if it's labeled for CARS or DESKS, that's what it was originally designed for
Now that you've brought me this far off topic, let's try to get back if you don't mind

I have just tested it and it doesn't fit. It's actually way too big. The reason the s3 fit was due to rounded corners. The more square corners on the s4 make it far too big.
Bummer.

NOOOOOoooooo........ Do you think it would work with modification on the corners of the dock? I've got a lot of experience working on custom parts for cars, or is it more than just squaring out the insides of those rubber corners in the dock?
Damnit I was really hoping it was going to be a drop-in, slam dunk like the SIII was right after the Skyrocket!

Samsung Galaxy Universal Vehicle Navigation Mount
This is what you guys want if you want the Samsung dock. I got it for the S3 and it will fit the S4. I won't be surprised it they announce it later for the S4 since it fits a phone up to 5.5" screens.

Well, hard to say. It would definately need a lot of modification to allow the phone to rest in the dock (and line up the charger) but then you need to keep it in there!

I guess it depends on your primary intention for the dock.
Mine was to have line out and charging without having to fiddle with cables. Holding the phone is an added bonus! Haha

MAN, how does this phone with the same dimensions get THAT far off??? I know what you were saying about the corners, but if I didn't know better, it looks almost like you were trying to put a Note I in that car dock!
Agreed, I don't want Universal ANYTHING, even from Samsung directly.... I can put my SIII in this dock one-handed, flip up the base, and my phone goes immediately into Google Music thanks to Tasker, ready to play through the speakers with the attached AUX input cable to the dock.... I'm always taking short drives around town, I'm definitely not going to be connecting two cables every time I get in the car after fitting it into a universal dock with two hands!

Oh now I don't know if I'll go that far.... I HAVE to have a car dock in my car with the bigger stereo, the other car I have is more for racing and show (though it has a big stereo in it), I only listen to Google Music in the car, but I'll be damned if I'm keeping my SIII over getting this new S4 soon! haha

NoooOo00oo, I NEED a car dock. I had one for the Atrix 4G and the Atrix HD, and can't own a phone without a car dock.
I'm in my car VERY often, and stream music via bluetooth, along with navigation and charging. UghHhHHhhH.

How about Kidigi's car mount cradle or iBOLT xProdock? Both of them are active car holders.

The Best Car Dock Confirmed!

Ok, I've been a very proud owner of the Samsung Omnia i8910 for a few months now... Still considering which phone I'm going to keep now after getting the Nexus one.
But I just wanted to confirm that awhile back I bought a car dock/holder for the Omnia but to my suprise and delight it fits the Nexus absolutely perfect. IMO this is the best car holder on the market. Proclip USA makes excellent products and I can confirm this particular dock is not only excellent but fits the N1 perfect as well.
Defininetly more expensive than others especially those you can find on ebay from china... but for me well worth it. If anyone is considering this their website - proclipusa.com - you need to select your country and then they give you the option for make of car and make of phone. Obviously there is no selection for the Nexus one but I can guarantee the model of phone you need to select is the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD, the product number is - 511020 - put that in the search and you'll find it. This is for the Holder with tilt swivel which is perfect for maps & navigation as you can swivel it landscape for great looking directions... they even have a model with a built in charger but I just opted for the holder with tilt swivel.
I am not affiliated with this company whatsoever just a happy customer.
Again it is expensive but I love it and love the fact you can select the make of your car and it comes pre-configured to mount to it.
**Edit: Forgot to mention there is no drilling and messing up your dash... just simply applies with a sticky backing and can easily be uninstalled without any damage whatsoever.
I am not sure that what you are describing or the pictures attached are what is typically considered to be a dock.
A dock would include a charging station, that is the purpose of the contacts on the bottom of the Nexus one. Ideally, the docking station would allow you to use transmit the Nexus One media thru the auto sound system.
Thanks for the information but that is a phone holder not a dock. The dock will be capable of charging the phone through the contact points on the bottom of the N1. The dock may also interface with your car radio and possibly other functions yet to be determined.

link? can you provide a link from where you bought the dock from?
Yes I think I put the link in at the OP but its at proclipusa.com
Also stated I believe is that yes I just bout the holder and since there is an opening at the bottom charging is perfect as it hooks up right to the bottom but I didn't get the other version offered which included a coiled charging station.
I do like the look of that phoneclip, however my only concern that I can see is, how does the phone not vibrate out of it while its horizontal?
This fits the N1 so good that it almost takes two hands to pull it out... there's no way it can come out without pulling it out and certainly not due to vibration.
Would it being as tight as you say, cause it to wear out on the phones material on the sides?

Seconded, this would be good to know too. Although I've already ordered one, which hopefully should just connect to the existing brodit mount I had for my Touch Pro 2.
Wow, I checked into that website. I really like the interface of the website. How it shows pictures of your specific dash, and where and how the phone will sit. Very expensive. I mean 65 bucks, for the setup and that is only the mount and swivel. No way. When the real Nexus One docks come out. The Car Mount is going to be 50 and the desktop mount will be 40. Both the dock's will use the gold contacts on the bottom for charging. And the car dock should have options to work directly with car stereo (optional of course).
Wait guys it's coming about 10 day is my guess.
Well mine came in the post today. Screwed onto the existing mount I had for my Touch Pro 2 just fine. The N1 does indeed fit fine but is very tight. Didn't scratch the phone and no way is it falling out when horizontal.
I've been using my Iphone in car with this dock.
Just Mobile Xtand Go (google it)
I was really impressed to see that it EXACTLY fits my N1
IMHO, it's really the best dock around
now...i am just missing FM transmission.
Would you need pics...please request
I am using this car dock until the real Nexus One docks are ready. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DQQBVW...e=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B001DQQBVW
If you are looking for a good bluetooth stereo for your nexus that works really well. Try this one. http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_105KDA805/JVC-Arsenal-KD-A805.html?search=JVC+KDA805&ssi=0
Once you sync your stereo with your phone the first time. You can just leave your phone in your pocket if you want, you can answer phone calls from your stereo, or even make them from your stereo if you want, you can listen to music from your phone on the stereo by just using the stereo's remote. With you phone still in your pocket.
If a person doesnt want to replace their stereo and just want's to use a fm transmitter. Get the motorola t505 I used it for 3 months it does work. Hands free driving syncs with any stereo any car. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875982214&Tpk=motoraloa t505
The ProClip holders are quite nice, but I think the Omnia II might be a better fit:
Nexus One: 119 x 59.8 x 11.5
Omnia II: 118 x 59.6 x 12.3
Omnia i8910: 123 x 58 x 12.9
The OmniaII's width is just .2mm thinner than the Nexus and thickness is only .8 thicker.

bought this to use with my G1 back when the Sprint Hero Nav app was dumped.. used it many times and works excellent with the Nexus One as well ... it rotates landscape and it unclips to use in the dash vent .. i originally wanted it because it doesnt interfere with the touchscreen and its low profile wont let it vibrate too much..and it has a good grasp on the phone without damage (i run a track setup on my suspension with competition spring rates and coilovers.. along with solid engine mounts)

I'am scanning ebay time to time, this one looks pretty nice to me:

Has anybody tried this or any other solutions?
This is just a car mount.. the Google Car Dock will charge it and put it in some kind of NAV mode I am guessing..
But I am waiting too, much more excited about the car mount over the desktop one they sell.
i'm buying this one when my N1 arrives:
http://www.amzer.com/Amzer-Suction-Cup-Mount-for-Windshield-Dash-or-Console-P86726.htm
I have this one. You will need to modify (Heat and bend, file down slightly with dremmel) to make it work with a hardcase on the phone. I got it to work nicely.
I just bought a random car holder from a store with variable width and it works like a charm, cost like $10.
Might not have a built in charger, but I already have a usb charger for my car so it doesn't really matter.

Any dock for Galaxy S?

e.g. Speaker dock, normal dock for charging, etc
Because i see a lot of dock on iphone, but no dock for android phone?
It would be very useful.
Trouble is, with the USB connector on the top, the normal 'drop in' operation of a dock is not workable.
This is not a dock, but a homemade stand
good job
it reminds me of the old Casio watch boxes
those makes great phone stands

There are proper Car docks too (which are very expensive I feel), but they also apparently change the phones profile when you plug it in (so goes to navigation probably). http://www.slashgear.com/galaxy-s-o...aled-desk-car-docks-dlna-hd-streamer-1197250/ Probably also comes with car charger and such
I probably would consider the car dock personally if the GPS fix in september DOES actually work.
The home and car dock apps are now released for Samsung Captivate. So I would say there's a good chance the the official docks will be coming out in a month or two.
To download the apps from the market, you need to have a Captivate phone. Good thing that there's work around. Download My Market from the market, launch it, set provider to US T-Mobile, and search for Samsung.

Is that a 3.5mm audio-out in the back of that dock? I wonder if you could output to both the 3.5mm on the phone and the dock at the same time, probably not but would be interesting.

To download the apps from the market, you need to have a Captivate phone. Good thing that there's work around. Download My Market from the market, launch it, set provider to US T-Mobile, and search for Samsung.

Hey, so I have found those two stands that are compatible with the SGS, it may worth checking out, since I cannot really post links here it goes

let me know if you already have them and give a quick review if you can.
cheers.
Here is one for the T-Mobile Vibrant I don't see why it won't fit the other models as well
http://www.wirelessphonegallery.com/samsung-t959-vibrant-battery-charger-ECR-D979BEGSTA.aspx
I've got a desk genie... [actually mine was an advertisement for a pharmaceuticals company, but the same thing]
I wouldn't call it a cradle tbh since it's just a highly rubberised surface, the USB hub is nice for charging/syncing. I've not tried placing the phone horizontally on it yet.
The sound sphere looks interesting. tbh I'm really after a desk-cradle; something you physically insert the device into and sync up
Any luck finding a car dock with "integrated" usb-charger?

[LIST] Desk, Car, And Other Docks & Stands

Mounts - Docks - Stands - And Other Gadgets
I thought since so many of us have found pretty creative ways of using our tablets, it may be nice to discuss and compile a list of mounts out there that work and don't work. I myself get a bit too obsessed with mounting my gadgets. I really have no reason to need my tablet while driving, but that doesn't mean I don't want it there. I do however need it at work to be open and ready. Alot of available contraptions are a "One Size Fits Many" so you may know of something that works for someone’s iPad or Galaxy Tab that may work here. You don't have to have owned it, if you found something post it up, someone else may buy it and give it a whirl or have had it in the past.
Car Mounts

This one has decent reviews. The only complaint I see is that it doesn't hold the tablet perfectly still, but keep in mind your mounting a 10" tablet in a car, and in this case via the cup holder. It's not a RAM mount, but it's also a fraction of the price and doesn't require extensive installation. This one is a likely candidate to be ordered and tested out. I like that it gives a spot to place your phone or other stuff such as change or chargers. Speaking of which, it looks like you would have no issue plugging the charging cable in if you were using an inverter or found a car charger that worked.
• Arkon Seat / Floor Mount for Most Tablets $40
This one seems very low profile, very non-intrusive. It includes an 18" flexible arm and a mount that claims to hold 7"-12" tablets. It is important to note that Amazon has something like this listed (see below) that turned out to be total garbage. Hoping this isn't just a rebranded product since it is twice the price.
*Update* Found it on Amazon and it has 4/5 stars with 27 reviews. Pretty good. Havnt read through reviews yet though. Oh and it's cheaper!
]
• Arkon Windshield Mount $26.30 These mounts on extension arms tend to experience alot of bounce while driving, however I have experienced great results by using one of the dashboard beanbag GPS/Phone holders to rest the tablet on which results in a wonderfully stable position.
•RAM Mount Large Tablet Mount If you have your wallet ready and you just want a solid dependable mount without trying a bunch of different products, then RAM Mount is for you. Their X Grip is getting pretty good reviews for holding all sorts of devices and they offer numerous mounting solutions. Expect to pay $100+ for the full setup.
• Pro-Clip $50 + Vehicle Mount
I'm a big fan of ProClip mounts, howver I think they are over priced on some models. I have written How To articles on making your own ProClip type mounts elsewhere on XDA if anyone is interested. But they are very solid mounts and well worth it if you can justify the cash. You buy two halves. One for your phone, one for your vehicle. The positive side is if you get a new phone, youy buy just half the mount costing you roughly $30-$50 or if you get a new vehicle or want to mount it in a new location you buy that piece. I have found that it's quite easy to retrofit the phone half to a generic or home made car half. They offer a variety of mounting options. The only one they have is for the TF100 but it may work as there seems to be a little bit of a gap in the back.
• Goosneck Seat bolt mount on Amazon $20-$25 This one I originally bought and it was garbage. It wobbled very badly and not at the bolt point, but th play in the mount. Add to that the actual tablet mount was too small and would fit my Nook Color at best, and my TF700 wasnt even close to fitting. Stay Away!
Desk Stands
•Cyber Acoustics Universal Tablet Stand (IS-4000) $28.39 I like how this one lifts the tablet up a little leaving room to place your phone or other items below it while providing a nice large strurdy base.
• Rocketfish Tablet Stand $10 At only ten bucks, this is a steal. Rocketfish has a reputation of being pretty damn good at an affordable price. Not the best, but not expensive either. It has a hole in the base to allow charging cable.
•CaseCrown Wood Stand (Redwood) Simple but different tablet stand. Will not allow for horizontal charging (unless upside down, but it does stand out of the crowd by being a nice looking wood design with groves to adjust the angle. And hell it's only $10, that's cheap for anything other then plastic.
• Arkon Portable Fold-Up Stand $10 This stand comes recommended by fellow users who say its a great little fold up stand and it can be had on eBay for about half the Amazon price.
Desktop Docks
Note: As it stands right now, the TF-201 and TF700 Keyboard docks from Asus seem to be identical despite claims of incompatibility. A big thanks to CraftyHack for being suspicious enough to start tearing his toys apart.
• TF201 Keyboard Dock Amethyst Gray $125 These are all over the board in price right now. The plunged originally when Asus claimed they were incompatable, then shot back up when it was discovered to be the same damn thing with a different sticker. These KeyBoard docks are great value to those wanting more then a tablet but don't want a netbook. They pack an extra internal battery boosting runtime up substantially and offer SD card port and a few other features. Many report that they tend to be a little unstable when placed on your lap or other non flat hard surface.
•TF700 Keyboard Dock in Champagne $150 Reported to be the same as the TF201 dock, but matches the newly released Chambagne Infinity.
Other Contraptions
Empire Adjustable Flexible Arm Mount $40 This is something like I was looking for in order to "float" a tablet above my monitors at work. There are several of these of different designs on amazon. Will link a few and will try one out.
• Dockem: Wallmount for any device $15 This is a really cool idea, just two adhesive back brackets that you place on the wall to hold your device. Limited applications, but I think using to hold your tablet on the side of the bed side table to keep it safe and out of the way would be nice. Not for me, but could be useful for someone.
Hope This Helps

LOL, now that's thinking outside the box. You could always do a netbook under the seat. Hell why stop there, set up your own in-car wireless network, either by way of tether or broadcast hotspot. If you tether to PC you could use IP cameras! Yea I know overcomplicated but that's kinda why we're all here right?
But back to reality, a mount in your vehicle could be useful. One of my main reasons for exploring this option is because I no longer own a dedicated GPS. I use my phone for all my nav needs and on occasion you lose data signal at the worse possible time. With NavFree you have offline maps that will get you headed to where you need to be. Plus there's the option of catching up on news, listening to music and things like that especially if you find yourself sitting and waiting alot.

Heehee...
NavFree 'eh?
That's one we could use.
Wish RAM or Proclip made a fitted tablet mount for the vehicles.
I had one in the towtruck I was driving for the GPS and hand radios.
It snapped in right across where the radio was and I could tilt it toward me.
Popped it right outta there when I quit driving for AAA.
Looks like RAM makes a mount for tabs and laptops...not cheap however and the no-drill set-up takes a little vehicle dis-assembly.
I have the RAM iPhone mount for the truck, but the iPhone is a pain in rear to use or see while driving.
So I don't use it.

If you own a heat gun and some very basic tools then just make your own. It's not as pretty, but it's damn near as functional as a ProClip. I did a write up How To on the note forum. I didn't update it with the final product because there was very little interest in making your own 100 car mount for $10. I still use it everyday and have yet to have any problems, even made a few for friends since then.

Groovy and excellent how to!
If the Kydex material is springy yet stiff enough I'm thinking it may just work to span the radio\stereo panel.
I can just plug the tabs headphone into the stereo's interface port for tunes.
The rest is just handled from the touch screen hmmmmmm...

Yea thats sort of what I did. I listen to slacker radio every morning on my drive to work. I can review email and FB when I'm sitting at lights. It's great. Plan to do the same for my tablet. Keep in mind you have to get the right thickness of Kydex, which is available on ebay, its discussed in the thread. Kydex is what many "plastic" holsters are made of, its very resiliant stuff and tough as nails.

With very little monitoring of ebay sales for the item you can get one for $4 free shipping easily at auction.
Or you can buy it outright for $7 with free shipping eg:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Portable-Fo...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item3a76c9715f
I've seen it on amazon too for a few dollars more.
Either way its a great stand because you can adjust its angles, and it folds up nicely.

I usually try to link Amazon as they tend to stay up for awhile where as, with some exceptions, most ebay items are gone in 7-10 days. I'll post the amazon link to it. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Here's a great car mount by Akron, available on Amazon for $26.33. Bolts right to the seat bolt on the floor. REALLY easy to install. This is the 2nd mount shown in the OP.
To use it like I have it pictured below with the tablet in a case you have to open the clamps really wide and the springs sometimes get pulled of their anchors inside the mount. Simple fix is to take it apart (simple screws) and epoxy the ends of the springs to their plastic mounts. I also stretched out the springs a bit as to not be so tense. The whole fix took 5 minutes.
Other than the initial spring issue it's a very sturdy mount and unlike window mounts, it's not going anywhere. When I used it with my tablet without a case on the springs weren't an issue. The goose-neck does sway a bit while driving and isn't perfectly rigid. This is good because when you hit a big bump or for whatever reason the car is jostled it allows a bit of movement, much easier on the attachment point and tablet.

It should fit, but you'll have to fix the springs (or maybe that was just a fluke issue with my mount). It fit's my Xoom with it's Otterbox defender case on if that helps give you reference.

New Samsung Wireless Charging Pad

Does anybody have any actual info on the new Samsung Wireless Charging Pad?
I'm assuming it's a 1A charger, but I havn't seen anything regarding its maximum surface temp, coil count, or anything of that nature. So does anyone know what we're dealing with?
While I'd like to just assume Samsung didn't make a device that is going to overheat and cause premature battery death, part of me thinks that's precisely what the may have done haha.

Seems to just be another 2A input, 1A output charger, but that's just one more thing that hasn't really been clarified on.
you won't find any wireless charger at 2A.. they're all 1A at most. i doubt we would ever even see a 2A pad as i can imagine the amount of heat it will generate..
i have this dock/pad: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RGIK7P/
which IMO is better than any samsung overprice pad. phone can be held in portrait, landscape or flat like a pad and has 3 coils so it doesn't matter as long as it's touching the surface. it even holds my tablet, and works with 2 of my other devices. just make sure whatever you buy it's Qi and not PMA because even though the S6 supports both, i think in the end Qi wins and becomes the wireless charging standard. most phones coming out are Qi and at least you know the pad you buy will work with future devices.

As I said in one of the other threads (I think in the Edge forum) - I think we can be fairly certain this is what it is. The S6 supports Qi and PMA and there arn't many solutions that do this. I think Samsung will be using TI's solution, which is 5W.
Infact, I have just found this: https://e2e.ti.com/blogs_/b/fullych.../11/wireless-charging-finally-goes-mainstream
Although they dont specifically say they are the supplier, they do provide a link to their PMA/Qi solution suggesting that is the chip Samsung used.

This guy's version is the one without the inductive charger, product #EP-PG920IBE
The one you're talking about is: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EP-PG920IWUGUS
the input is 1.5-2A but only 1A comes out... wireless charging = wasted energy which is why more needs to go in to get 1A to come out.. if the charger was only 1A input, about half would be wasted and you'll only get about 500mAh out.
as i mentioned, stop wasting your time looking for a 2A wireless charger. there isn't one and won't be one for a long time until they made more improvements to the technology...

all i see is amp talk, my apologies..
while i cant provide you with a definite answer to the coil count, i am confident it wil just be 1 coil. almost all of the small round pads are just one coil because the pad is small there is no need for more coils. the bigger pads have more coils to cover the entire pad. coil count also is pretty irrelevant since its only useful on pads that have more surface area, or pads that can charge multiple devices at the same time, which the samsung cannot do.
not trying to sound negative, but there are so many better, and cheaper options out there compared to the overpriced samsung accessories.

Personally I'm actually hoping it's one coil. Less coils tends to translate into less heat, and right now I'm trying to decide what's going to be my bedside overnight charger that the device will spend 6-10 hours on bi/daily so that's a key concern.
I do agree that it's pretty pricey though. There are definitely some chargers that ought to do just as good of a job for literally half the cost provided you don't have any unusual needs. I have a few personally, or I'd actually probably get this charger.

I am not good at the technical side of this stuff - but curious if there is any disadvantage to useing the Charger you linked to - versus the one made by samsung (aside from yours can be purchased now and samsungs has not been released yet) ? For the one I linked the only issues would be that it -might- be a little warmer and the charging LED might annoy you because it flashes. It also may or may not have as much "range" on its charging surface horizontally and vertically.
Of course until Samsung either posts some real specs or some testing is done on the pad, I can't really call it one way or another regarding the surface temperature of the device while charging. Same goes for the amount of throw the charging surface has in terms of being able to penetrate perhaps say, a thick case.
As for the one tft posted, I'm not super familiar with it but given that it is a 3-coil unit it likely gets warmer than either the one I linked or the Samsung charger will get, though this would somewhat be mitigated while it's standing.
Frankly unless you have some sort of special function you need your charger to perform (or not perform- IE; flashing LEDs and excessible audible notifications) or some qualification you need to have met , there's no reason to spend more than around $30 on a wireless charging pad imo.
Find something with overcharge protection (generally not an issue in newer pads, and the device shouldn't allow itself to be overcharged; the issue here is excessive, unnecessary power consumption and heat), decent range, and a design you don't mind seeing occasionally and you should be good to go.
The only time you might have some need to spend more on a charging pad is when you're looking at standing chargers or car mounts. I'd look to Tylt for those in particular, but that's moreso just because I like their designs and support their company. You can definitely find a cheaper standing charger that should be quite comparable (tft listed one), but when it comes to the car mount I actually don't think there's a better one out there at the moment personally. The only one I'd consider on par with the Tylt in terms of design and usable functionality is the AirDock, but that's only assuming its sticky/magnet surface NEVER drops your device, which I just don't trust in this price bracket of devices. Not to mention, the AirDock is the most expensive car mount I've bothered researching.
I have a chinese Qi pad that worked great with the Nexus 5. I cant seem to get it to connect to the S6
anyone having issues?
Hi guys - any one looking for a cheap solution and doesn't mind the standard, you can pick up the Powermat 24 hour pack for the Galaxy SIII or iPhone 4/4s for about $10. The cool thing bout this is that it comes with an external battery pack!

It works great with the Galaxy S6 - tested with the Iron Shield Verus and Ringke Slim cases, the only real issue is that the coil on the phone is right under the camera so the camera hump sometimes messes with the placement.
Note that the description says that you need to use the included case to charge your phone - you can ignore that the Galaxy S6 is a PMA 1.0 device.
I wonder if Samsung knows that a hell of alot of people already have the S6 now?
Seems to me the wireless charging pad that was supposed to be part of the S6 product lineup would already be released.
Also it should be noted that Samsung apparently offers 50% off codes for accessories to users who register their device on Samsung's website, therefore, the "official" charger would be only $25.

anything over $20 is still too much for a charger when we have fast charging capabilities. wireless charges at a much slower rate
