But the question is, are we getting the exynos or s600? I think it should be safe to assume we'll get this in 4g anyway...

Very disappointing..not that there's anything wrong with the s600, bit was thinking the octa might have awesome battery life....I'll get out from Kogan anyway, but assume it'll be the s600 too..

Im actually happy about this. Because we'll have better support with AOSP based ROMs... And I don't think there will be a noticable difference between those two battery wise and performance unless you did a benchmark. But when it comes to real worl performance apps arent even using benifit of a quad core cpu at the moment. So octa core just an over kill.. If you gonna get it from Kogan im pretty sure that they will sell 3G only international version as well..
What im wishing for not to have a whole different device for Australia like S2 4G model from telstra with no developer support and lack of updates..

Yeah there is that side to it as well. I'd really think that we should be able to get the 4g version from Kogan, they have both versions of the s3. They tend to be pretty cheap, and I don't like carrier locked phones and contracts...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

Im ordering mine from the UK upon release.
http://www.handtec.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s4.html
Sources ive been reading suggest Australia isnt going to be getting them in the first 5 countries, so expect longer than 30th April delays previously stated above. However i could be wrong.
Why wait for them to appear in local stores, when you can order online.... Its cheaper overseas and you will get one far quicker. They also have far less bloatware on them from the UK than the local Optus, Telstra or Vodafone stores... (not that bloatware is much of an issue once you've got it rooted, but there will be a week or 2 without root access where this will be annoying lol)
Just a thought.

Like usual, I'll be getting the international version - cheaper, quicker, and know the exact version. It alone usually has enough bloat without the carrier stuff

Thanks for info, i registered my interest with Telstra.
Sunny

It's a bit sad, contacting Optus via twitter to query upgrading to the S4.
Find out that it will cost more to upgrade early than to buy the phone outright..
It's not like made of money or anything..
Seriously hate mobile contracts that last 24 months..

Geez, be careful if you get one from Kogan. Apart from ****ty customer service, ALL of the Samsungs (and we assume other brands too) are international models which means you have to trust Kogan to handle the warranty as Samsung Australia will not touch them under any circumstances.
I have had this discussion at length with the Management of Samsung and the ACCC and while Kogan aren't necessarily doing anything wrong (unless you could grey/parallel importing), you could be up **** creek if it breaks.

Had my SGS3 Motherboard replaced today and was chatting to one of the Senior Telstra staff for a while about the SGS4.
For what it's worth, the rumor (and I stress ONLY a rumor) is that we'll be getting a quad-core SGS4, not the octa-core.
Given that we got the quad core SGS3 and the US got the dual core, I can't see it myself.
The other possibility was a quad-core 3G but an octa-core 4G.
Comments ??

i'll wait till someone roots it and ports CM to it before i get this phone.

Just order it from else where
. My mate has 4 on order from his importer... Will be the Octa core with 4G he told me.. I bagged one of them

Re: Official Australian Galaxy S4 owners thread - [Discussions, News, Help, Tips & Mo
So if I have this right, we will be getting the snapdragon version which will be 3g only? To be honest not fussed about 4g as I work remotely a fair amount of the time. Plus I figure the snapdragon will still be lightning fast..
Super keen for the decent dev support too, whether that is CM or not remains to be seen I guess!

S3 custom ROMs are so less. Why?

As a S3 uesr, I am very worried about the numbers of custom ROM.
Yesterday I saw a ROM for S3 which is named BackToBasics. But dropbox is busy.
What is the difference between S3 and S4 ROM? Can we make it by ourselves?
Thanks!

You have to have development knowledge to make any rom. The S3 One S has a different chipset (duh) than the S4 One S and less users have it. ROMs are not compatible with both.
Just wait a bit s3 one s is being sold more than the s4 version so we should get more support in the future.

The S3 just got its first custom recovery a week or so ago, ROMs will come. Until HTC releases the Ville C3 with AMD K6-2 CPU in select markets in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas that is.

But why would you buy a phone with last generation tech in a next generation world? Unless it is a specialty phone--Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note--you'd be better off waiting until the newer model is within your grasp.
I might be wrong, but I thought this was how most people thought when it came to technology? I imagine the anguish of people who bought the S4 model only to find out it had been replaced with an older processor when they were sent back to the factory or the anger of people who see their friends with the original model, love it, and rush out to buy it only to find they've, again, gotten the ''New and Improved'' model.
HTC's S3 model will not become more popular. It will be the reason why people leave the phone or the brand.
EDIT: I should bring up that if you have your S4 model replaced by HTC. You can call them and request that they replace the replacement with the model you originally bought.
Tbf it isn't the stock s3 cpu it has been improve with better battery life and performance so isn't as big gap as u think there is. And I have played with an s4 one s and I have the s3 and from when I played with it there was no difference between the two they did a good job with the s3 version off the phone it is the best and fastest and most smooth phone I have had I'm loving my one s s3.

I'm quite confused on that. The reason that the S4 is better isn't due to the clock settings. It's due to it being a newer 28mm platform. Improved battery life over other S3 phones doesn't mean much to me when I get 6+ hours of screen time as the average for the S4. [My latest is 9:20 hours of use]
I know this cuts both ways--I'll say this so you don't have too: ''It's the same for you''--but just because you think the S3 is fine doesn't mean other people will. The Questions section is a large showcase of this. People complaining that they got the S3 or wondering how they could tell if it was the S3. The fact--I say quite poshly--is that you're paying the same amount of money for a worse phone. Doesn't matter how big or small the gap is, you're still paying for less.
Sorry if I come off negatively, but this is something I'm quite passionate about. I believe that everyone should be given the phone that was originally released. A phone other people still get to use. For HTC to shaft my brothers of the globe is--in my eyes--a travesty.
The people who don't know the difference between the two models won't be on xda. Therefore it won't become more popular on xda. People on xda or those who do now he difference will buy the s4.

Being that S4 is indeed better, but for HTC.. there will not be a lot of S4 produced because there short on parts thus the S3 will come around more. The S4 is like experimental.. S3 tho will be more wide ranged.. I will still stick w the S4 tho... Better chips.

[POLL] Which version do you have, S4 or S3?

Just a bit of research I thought may be interesting... Enter the poll and add any comments if you feel necessary :good:
How can I tell?
If you don't already know the S4 model usually clocks around 1.5ghz and the S3 clocks at 1.7ghz which you can check with several apps on the market. Another way to check is the model number on the box, Z560e is S3 and Z520e is S4.
Prediction:
I recon there is going to be more S4 people around due to this forum being used by a lot of people in the regions that only sell them. Although saying that, I bought my One S in the UK which should have been an S4 model but turned out to be a S3 and I can't refund it
Results so far:
Interesting, 2 days in (23/10/2012) and the results are as follows.
S3 - 13 Votes - 30.23%
S4 - 30 Votes - 69.77%
Don't Know - 0 Votes - 0%
Did I not say there would be more S4 users? ;D .. No brainer really..
25/10/2012:
S3 - 25 Votes - 35%
S4 - 53 Votes -74.65%
Don't Know - 0 Votes - 0%
S3 percentage is slowly decreasing..
And who knows, if there is enough S3 users dev's/chefs may consider whipping up a few more S3 Roms.. ;D
Also, Tell me if this is the wrong section for this poll, but I felt general should be fine for most things including polls

Thinking of Buying one-s: S3 Model

Hello,
I am from india and i have short--listed one-s or xperia-p to purchase. India also has the C2 model with S3 processor. I find one-s better, but during my reserach on the net, i find lot of people here not happy with various issues regarding the phone.
I am ok with lack of s4 processor, but i am worried that some of you are unhappy regarding os updates and some lockscreen problem etc.
I am worried as i won't be able to buy another phone quickly if this fails. So, pls advice.
If you are not interested in the lack of support and updates buy it.
i have read your thread on this model. Can you elaborate on lack of support? and as for OS update issue i have written an email to the indian CC here...let's see what they have to say.
Problem is i am not able to find too many indian customer reviews on net.
Well basically the s4 model received an update to sense 4.1 android 4.0.4 around 2 months ago and the s3 version has never received an update.
And we are all now wondering if it ever will... I'm pretty sure it will get jelly bean but when I have no idea.

If your only option is the s3 version of this phone you might as well get a htc sensation same s3 processer with qhd screen, sense 4.1(though viperS), micosd card slot and removable battery.
See, i am not going to buy S4 model, coz it won't be supported by HTC in India.....as there won't be any warranty given with the imported model... and a good news has been told by stylus regarding the update for the c2 model.
From the feedback i have got here, i can conclude that apart from lack of s4 processor, there isn't any usability issue with the device and the only worrysome problem of "No updates" seems to have gone now.
U are wasting your money if u buy s3 model get a better phone for cheaper eg sensation like mentioned, Google nexus or get s4 version and root it rooting is the best for Android phones the amount of new features and you can even get updates for custom roms

I don't have any issues with my phone .. and I'm sure there will be 4.0.4 and 4.1.2 coming soon... So considering the recent price cut you should go for it... I think you'll get it for around 24k

First...!! jk
I'm curious as to how much this will cost here at launch... I heard around 75k from a few shopkeepers who are generally right. I remember when the S3 came here and was officially brought in by Samsung they really helped the price drop down from the import price to local with warranty... If I remember correctly it came for about 65k via Samsung...

It'll be expensive here. Then, they'll lower the prices oh-so-slightly after a couple of months. Typical.

Even if s3 got all the software features, it won't be that effective. The low ram and battery is going to make things worse. Hope for the best.
Regarding price, my rough idea is that will be around 75k.

So apparently its official, Team Hacksung / Cyanogenmod won't support the S4... That is a really big blow for Samsung from the Dev community... I think it may very well be the deal breaker for me and I'll end up sticking to the N4...
I had a bad feeling something like this might happen... Samsungs Anal Retentiveness is quite sad...

If you dont want to enjoy samsung's version of android experience then why even consider galaxy series? I am sure N5 will have equally powerful hardware and would give best stock android experience. I know its about choice but choice of running half baked or even 100% functional stock android on a non nexus device when both have equally powerful hardware doesnt click.
just my 2 cents

Because samsung didnt release the source code for their exynos processor in s2 and s3 and developers had a hard time trying to make CM fully functional on these sets. So, same might happen in S4's case.

Howcome dev support seems to be popular for the i9500?

So is it me, or does preliminary support seem to be focused more on the i9500 than the i9505 variant so far? It's pretty weird seeing as everyone seemed to be sure that the Octa wouldn't enjoy as much support from the dev community as the S600 would.
I see a lot of ROM / root / flashing / kernel / firmware threads for the Octa already

Is the i9500 already out in some countries?
I know we have a lot of Devs in the US and not sure how many people have got their hands on i9505 as of yet? Plus no carrier kernel sources yet?

I'm getting my i9500 next weekend :good: (South Africa)
It's not officially out anywhere yet, but if you just glance in 'Android Development' you'll see a lot of i9500 development threads already.
The difference between 9500 and 9505 in terms of development is that the later one is more user friendly when it comes to aosp roms, no difference in the rest.

The l9505 will have huge support being the main US, UK and others phone. Don't worry.

Don't the US carriers get their own individual devices (with the SGH and SCH names)?

It's the same device as far as I've seen just carrier branding is the diference. Same hardware so should both run the same roms.

I wasn't worried, I'm glad to see support already happening for the i9500
My mobile service provider just called me an hour ago to verify my work address. They want to courier my i9500 to me on Friday morning
(Vodacom, South Africa, if anyone's interested)

IMO the initial "WHAT we can't get i9500 Octa in my country!" is replaced with a shift toward i9505.
Anyway some Danish shop i9505 is released tomorrow and i'm going to get one :good:
