Ubuntu Touch porting ( Porting Guide for Dev's ) - Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S III Developer Discussion

Yesterday the guys at Canonical launched Ubuntu Touch for Phablet's and released pre-built images for the Nexus line of phones.
Today the porting guide for other devices is out : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
And it bring great news for anyone that is looking to run Ubuntu Touch on their device as it is based around Cyanogen Mod 10.1 .
Any devices supported by CM 10.1 should be able to run UT with relative ease.
I went over the guide and they used the Galaxy Tab 2 as an example of such a port.
From what I can see it is Android without the Java bits , Ubuntu itself runs on-top of the Android framework within a container. It's similar to how we ran till now Linux disto's on-top of Android but instead off using VNC to get access to an emulated X server Ubuntu uses Surface Flinger as it's display server.

And it's been ported to the Galaxy S3 : http://rootzwiki.com/topic/39299-romwip-ubuntu-touch-on-d2vzw-dev-previewphantom-022213/

Im building it as of now. But am stuck at the new device config part. if any dev could help out, it would be appriciated.

Can you give more details on where exactly are you stuck.

as said in thre earlier post, at the adding a new device config

what device are u trying to...and where exactly are u stuck?

Galaxy note 2. While making the new device config. Tho sources almost synced

Already porting it over to the T-Mobile Galaxy S III (d2tmo).

Anyone working on d2att?

TeamViewer QuickSupport app - remotely manage Samsung S3!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamviewer.quicksupport.market.samsung
Just released today in Play Store. Now you can troubleshoot / setup Samsung phones using the remote access program TeamViewer (my personal favorite, and a great program). Awesome. Now I can remote support my family's PHONES? I'm never gonna sleep anymore.Currently only supports Samsung phones, but more Android compatibility is on the way! SUCK IT APPLE!
UPDATE: As many users have noted, this seems to only work on STOCK ROM Samsung devices. CM / AOSP / AOKP / etc., will not work. I'm sure in time the app will be moved to work with all ROMs, or TeamViewer will release a generic Android version.
UPDATE 2 : theos0o has created a patched version for CM builds here.
Thanks for sharing this information I really want to try this out.

My god. This is the best thing since sliced bread. I tried a few solutions earlier but wasn't completely happy. This rocks!!! THANKS
I assume it uses some touchwiz functions or APIs. Teamviewer noted in their facebook comments that they would love to bring this to more phones/manufacturers but that they would need support from them to implement it. As pointed out, it doesn't run on the Galaxy Nexus (which is stock Android) or on my Galaxy Tab with CM/AOKP/AOSP as these also do not use touchwiz so changing your build.prop alone wont suffice.
I've patched it, working fine on SGS GT-i9000 running CM9.
Will be posting the stuff later.

In general :
* Basic Wi-Fi connections will work, secured wifi like WEP, WPA won't work.
* Bluetooth, camera won't work.
* Video is not working properly.
In Adam's build :
* GSM network doesn't work.
* Screen time-out and lock doesn't work. That means, you cannot turn off your screen (always ON).
+ General issues
As of now, Ubuntu Touch Preview is not usable in mobile phones. I expect this will be fixed & become ready to use soon.
Ubuntu Touch will be ready for daily use in "a couple of weeks"

Hmm. I see so that's the story. Well, people here are too impatient. Its not like other ROMs can make their phone 2x as cool and fast as stock. Hell, I actually prefer stock. The only difference I see is Theme Chooser (Except ParanoidAndroid's total UI Customization and different modes). which by the way is already available for non-CM/AOKP ROMs. The only reason I want to get CM for this phone is for hopes that even when Sammy abandons this phone, we'd still be able to run a recent version of android. 4.2.2 is no big deal for me, its still jellybean for chrissakes. I'd tear the world apart if we were still on GB and KLP or whatever 5.X will be called is already out.
I guess its best to wait. We waited a pretty long time for jelly bean but why replace something that's not broken? Still is just software, I doubt those ROMs can satisfy me.
.end mOpinion
Sadly, there's no one left, OsamaGhareeb knows programming (he can help with the sources) but he's MIA here on Ace II section. Then there's hafizduddin, who builds the kernels. Aaaaand there's OldDroid who said he'd be getting an Ace II and build something for it but he's MIA now too (i think he's active but I don't think he'd get this phone IMO)
So, that said, anyone else here who knows programing/Linux operation?
