As in a alternative app to the playstore?
Well you will first need alot of practice in android app development, learn everything that is java.
And then you will likely need some server side stuff to mange the apps on your market, so you will need to know about a server side scripting language, and have some kind of database to store everything.
This would be the very basics, if you wanted to sell paid apps etc you would have mange payments and worry more about security.
Or just pay someone to build it for you

Well as your question seems a bit confusing
If you want to create your own Playstore like app, what zachthespack said.
Or if you want to upload your own app into Playstore, you have to create a Playstore developer's account by paying a $25 registration fee, and then its simple as you can upload your apk.
More info could be found out here: http://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/?hl=en

[Q] To ROM makers: how do you link pre-installed applications to Android Market?

I just got a great news today, my own application will be included on all the phone of the brand "X" in my little country (Belgium)
I got so excited when I am looking at the phones in the shops and I can see my application by default.
Unfortunately, the brand "X" is noobie and seem unable to link my app to the Market, so the users cannot be aware that there is an upgrade in the Android Market.
they just ask me by email
Do you know how to link apps to the market to get the update automatic?

I know that I don't work for this company and they will get benefit with this information, but have you got an Idea on how to achieve this?
Thank a lot.

You got to put your apk file in the data/app folder, not the system/app. According to HTC Android ROM kitchen at least, with which I'm experimenting now.

Doing this allows them to uninstall your app as well
Thank a lot for your kind answer, Androyed, but I strongly believe there are other alternatives.

I don't care, I prefer users removing my app rather than being annoyed by an old version, but I don't think that the manufacturer will allow to do that.
Are there really no other option than moving the app? I cannot believe that as many devices have pre-installed apps and are linked to the Market.

Yeah I prefer that way too but U.S. carriers love putting preloaded applications on the phone and it can't be removed unless the user have root access.
And there is no option.. unless you want to provide the customers phones with root access from the start but that'll cause future updates to be a hassle.
The only way to update your app is via a software update (OTA).

Haha, you probably need an answer from an actual dev.
One thing I do know is that it is possible with Titanium Backup, or any other root backup app, to backup your apps with a market link, so that you can update your backed up apps. So maybe that's the solution? Put a market link somewhere?

Actually.. now that I'm thinking about it. Stock ROMs have Android Market is in /system/app/ as Vending.apk.
I believe what happens is that, the market will UPDATE. But you could always uninstall the updates but you're unable to fully get rid of the app.
This should apply to any app in /system/app/ so in theory it should be possible. But yeah, you'd have to ask a dev about it.
What app?

Sharing .apk files of free apps

I've been wondering, is it illegal to share .apk files of free games and applications? I'm pretty sure sharing apps and games that you need to pay for at the Android Market is a crime but what about the free ones?
Let's say I upload the apk on a file host, post it and under it post link to the market page or credit the developer.
EDIT: Sorry I forgot to tick the question option.
No, and you'll find a lot of chefs cooking launchers, file explorers etc. into their ROMs

So that means it's ok to distribute free apps on blogs and websites?
I think so, yeah

It seems weird why anyone would want apks for free apps that you could get from the market but... I don't think its illegal

Well let's say some people aren't on a data plan and are nowhere near a WiFi spot. The only solution would be to atleast download a few games and applications through the computer and transfer them. Talking about free apps ofcourse.
I think so, yeah
Sorry for my google-english ))
It is necessary to install the application of site сars.com,
but googleplay does not do it (not available for Russia).
Most of the request - Put please apk file.
Thanks in advance.
I've found that theres apps that I needed and sometimes couldn't be found in app market anymore so I need to go search for apk files.
APK Sharing Platform
Hi all,
Taking the risk of being called a troll for reviving a old thread I wanted to introduce you to an app sharing platform called Swably.
Swably is the Android app and APK sharing community. Swably gives users options when it comes to quickly and easily sharing mobile apps within a peer to peer android app sharing community.
So please, take a look. We would love to have some feedback!
Cheers,
Taylor Amarel

life without gapps aka google apps

Moderators PLEASE READ THIS THREAD BEFORE DELETING IT LIKE YOU DID THE LAST ONE
I did a couple of different searches on this board, looking for an alternative to gapps aka google apps. What viable alternatives to the google play store are there? google hangouts and google mail? I came across a thread discussion nogapps and the blank store that comes with it, but i'm not overly convinced that it lacks google's data mining processes.
I am not asking for sites that provide "pirated software" as I already know where to get that. I am asking for a "store" where I can search various phrases, and get a good return without those apps being relinked to google play store.
Have you tried the Amazon App Store? (Yes, they have Android apps)
Am I correct in assuming you are looking for a market that is completely separate from Google's servers? If privacy is your concern, you should know that all services that are provided for "free" employ some sort of data mining, because that is how they can afford to keep those services running. Since Google Play is the largest repository for Android apps, you would be hard pressed to find another service that hosts all of the same .apks, as that would seem redundant.
There simply is no viable alternative to the Play Store.
You can get alternatives, but they won't be nearly as good.
As for the rest of the gapps there are plenty of alternatives that are just fine or better.
Why are you so against gapps though? Washington doesn't care what apps you use.

Even if the app doesn't mine your data, your ISP still does ...
plenty
well there are plenty stores available on internet. if you are on android 4.1 and rooted then you can install NOKIA app store. well its tricky to use, you can find a apk on xda. when you install it just install aptitode market from there, though aptitode can be installed alone too. you can find almost all apps. but still google holds android that will mean they will have the maximum apps and secure and most updated apps. even developers always put latest updated apps on play store first. well i used wildfire which has no gpu so cpu has to do work for most of operations which makes slow and to overcome the low space on that phone i sometime skip the gapps. it depends if you want surveillance free android then go for other market apps.:silly:..google even know when you are walking. i read this on xda somewhere.
choice is yours.
100s of stores are available nowadays...
Gmail alternate is aosp email

A way to synchronize (not backup/restore) my contacts and calendars on the Internet (Mega, Dropbox, whatever...) to be shared among other devices. This is bare minimum.
Then, if I could also synchronize (again, not backup/restore)some system stuff like WiFi passwords, call logs, SMS/MMS, instant messaging stuff and some application settings, this would be an extra great feature.
Can you do it without GApps? If you know how to, please share!
I don't know if this idea will benefit the app devs. Getting rid of the play store is like taking away one of their BIGGEST market place. What do you think?
People wouldnt feel the need to seek alternatives if Google wasnt so hardcore with it
Like dam, is it really even reasonable to keep location tracking in the background 24/7 and 15 different types of loggers at once? You'd think those morons would understand how large of a percentage of their would-be-users would actually use more of their services if they didnt chose to make it an all or nothing affair. I literally use only the playstore, and because of whats needed for that I go ahead and utilize the sync. I would definitely be open to gmail, g+, etc. if they werent so retarted with it. Rant over.

I think more about my privacy than the app business.
I wish in could use something like CM with some synchronizing mechanism.
Unluckily for me I have a non-dumb-phone, a netbook and a desktop PC.
I use all three for work and would need some synchonization mechanism for calls, SMS and other stuff.
Do you have a suggestion in this direction?
I have read the opening post. So please remember that.
However, this kind of question will always lead to warez sites.... As it already has. And will continue to. And another thread asking same thing will lead to warez app responses yet again.
Google play store and Amazon are really the only ones that are legit and most other sites offer cracked versions of paid apps.
Obviously a website dedicated to Development and developers will not approve of most of the recommendations here, which I have deleted.
Please don't open another one of these threads. There's been enough answers provided already. So this thread is closed.
Thanks for understanding,
Darth

[Completed] Changing APK name doesn't let it find the license app

Hello,
I have an interesting problem to solve. Your insights or ideas will be helpful. I have purchased "Automatic Call Recorder - ACR" and its license app (separate app that needs to be purchased installed). Since the apps are alphabetically ordered on my mobile, I changed the ACR apk (using APKEdit) to XACR. The app works well but it cannot detect the license app and provides only free features.
Is there any way I can make it detect the license app? I tried to rename the license app by adding 'x' but didn't work. Within the APK, is there a location where I can tell/configure the APK to find the correct app?
If this requires a lot of time and efforts, I would be ready to pay (depends on how much is your ask).

I understand this is a genuine request, but xda is not a place where anyone can come to make money so payment is out of the question. The other part I'm also not sure about, we have to be careful when modding a license as it is a paid app so not something we could really discuss
