X920e is HTC Butterfly, not HTC J Butterfly.
BTW, if you use OpenRecovery, you can use adb sideload, no need to copy zip to phone.
Did you backup origin rom? Pls post it also... Need it to update OTA.

I think I saw the original Recovery on another site. Let me see if I can find it again. It was a chinese site, so hopefully I bookmarked it.

I flash another rom, so cannot get OTA update. Not because recovery. I have stock recovery and boot.
Thirdpart rom cannot flash the OTA.

Doesn't seem to work for me. Rooted and have recovery installed, but when installing GAPPs, it just gives the 'Google Framework Services has stopped working' message, and the Play Store just displays 'Server error'. I'm on an X920e.

No offense to the OP but those directions are a bit lacking. For very good detailed instructions follow everything exactly as written on Post #26 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070341&page=3
Since you are already rooted and have recovery much of it you can skip. But it should give you the latest version of gapps (the one's in the OP are quite outdated).

soyuutaku : i am uploading backup for you.
i got server error now i will try to flash gapps package soon i will post updates.

it is stock, no any changed, without OTA update, right?

it is stock but rooted and custom recovery installed.
well if you want to get ota update. restore this backup and download ota update from rom section. than pull recovery.img from ota zip then flash via fastboot.
then reboot phone check for update then it will download and install from original recovery.

i bought the phone here in china and was surprised that no google software on it, only the htc markt.
now i have rooted it and installed recovery and gapps, every thing great
only the root seams to be not 100%, titanium backup says not able to get root
when i open the superuser app (i gess) i become two options in chinese, dont know what it means, when i press the right one the phone restarts immediately, i think it is a bug
thanks again, i am very happy now with the phone

[Q] OTA Update for an XE

Hey,
Last night I got a system update message and on reboot it loaded clockworkmod and now I can't install the update
I rooted and installed the mod before but I never use it...
How can I disable clockworkmod or deleting it so I can get the official update (I would much prefer that)
Thanks,
PS. I have read other posts about this online but the problem have been slightly different and with other phones so the wrong files, i'm guessing

I'm guessing the OTA you got was to software version 3.33.401.153?
If yes just download and run the RUU exe from here. This will put you on that software version.

no, 3.33.401.106 is the next one then it is 3.33.401.153
However, you can just flash the RUU and it will put you on 3.33.401.153 without having to flash 3.33.401.106 - also because you are rooted the OTA file may fail to run whereas the RUU wont.

Love how I click the link and get this 'ICXperia user website temporarily down' haha
So is it pretty straight forward once downloaded..... is there instruction somewhere?
PS will it wipe my phone? do i need to back up? and what would be the best way of doing that?

Regardless of whether my hoster's website is down, my FTP remains up so you can still download the file using the link I posted. Its self explanatory and comes with instructions within the installer, it will wipe your phone so I would suggest doing a nandroid backup of data only then restoring data from a custom recovery (you will have to reflash the custom recovery after the RUU has finished because it will return you to stock recovery)

I'm not gonna reflash afterwards...
so will nandroid backup still work after i use the RUU if i dont flash with a custom recovery later?
PS. Will this get rid of clockworkmod or just bypass it?

The RUU replaces (gets rid of) clockwork mod with HTC Stock recovery, so to restore nandroid backup after RUU you will need to reflash CWM

So i will just back everything up onto my sd card using an app off the play store
I'm sure you are getting annoyed with me by now So just say if this is the way to do it
-Backup important stuff on sd card with app
-Follow instruction on .exe
-Then i have a stock phone and it is updated
-Restore my data....

I think with an app like that you need root to use it (Titanium backup needs root) and to root you still need a custom recovery so I would just recommend the method I suggested but apart from that the method is correct

Finally got round to doing this and i got an error 115
'ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR'... One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again.
Should i update to the 3.33.401.106 RUU first. If so, where do I find it?
Sorry about this

[ROM][S3] JellyBean Official TWRP zip - LINKS ALIVE

OFFICIAL JELLY BEAN FOR S3:
Hi all,
I made a small modification on the TW OTA package, so now can be flashed with unlocked bootloader from TWRP.
I am not responsible if you brick your phone.
Anyway always do backup before do anything.(I successfully recovered my phone with that backup)
FOUND BUG BY MYSELF:
INSTEAD OF REAR SPEAKER, SOUND COMES FROM FRONT SPEAKER, DON'T USE TOO LOUD STILL NO FIX
BUGFIX:
Sound playing, ringtone etc fixed by me. Need to fix video record bug. (video sound playing on front speaker)(afterall i upload patch)
Its fixing the sound generally, but videorecorder sometimes switches between two speaker, fix if you record more once, then it switches back. Fix comeing soon.(please check somebody, becuse maybe HBOOT related problem, and maybe only on my phone this problem)
http://hos.dqbp.co.uk/villec2_jb_speakerfixv9.zip
INSTALLATION:
For those who have S-OFF, just:
-copy to /sdcard and reboot to recovery, install zip
Fot those who have S-ON, just
-copy to /sdcard and reboot to recovery, install zip
-and then reboot your phone in fastboot mode
-extract boot.img from downloaded zip, and place near your fastboot
-flash boot.img extracted from the zip with: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot, and thats it.
Might need to update this from latest european RUU(with Sense 4.1), because i used to use that.
It seems to work on all HBOOT version.
WHAT IS THIS?
I made it to Global one, with all languages, without TW apps.

Its easy, it requires ADB drivers instaled in PC and ADB commands to execute.
So, in TWRP you make a full WIPE, format data also.
Then you reboot recovery and over advanced you activate adb sideload.
Then connect phone to PC and send the zip file with command:
adb sideload name_of_the_rom.zip
Then just wait ADB send file to phone and then Recovery start flash of ROM .

With TWRP it works, i tested, other Recovery i dont know if they have sideload option.
Relative to OTA yes, with stock recovery you can have OTA. But i dont have stock recovery from this one since dump dont contain firmware.zip
Dont know if firmware.zip from 2.24.709.1 it will do the trick, but sincerelly i dont wait from OTA updates, its a loss of time

Thats correct, i did not know Mike already put the firmware zip, thanks for tell me in
Another thing, you must unlock bootloader to flash TWRP.
If needed you can have S-OFF and flash latest RUU x.xx.401.x and you are good to GO.
Cheers
Would this work with T-Mobile/AT&T versions?
Also sideloading doesn't touch the "sdcard" content right. We would just need to do a factory reset.

Correct, it work all models EXCEPT SPRINT.
Sideload dont touch anything over sdcard but if you are in 4.1.2 base a wipe data / factory reset and a format sdcard its advised....

Heartbleed vulnerability in Android 4.1.1

Google has officially stated that Android 4.1.1 is vulnerable:
http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.ca/2014/04/google-services-updated-to-address.html
This is a notice for anyone else on the Stock ROM as I am pretty sure this was the last supported update from HTC.
Pretty sure my wife's HTC One S (Ville) is on this version. Will verify when I get home. Time to root and flash her phone this weekend

Anyway to patch this flaw myself using root access? I really don't have time to install and configure a new ROM...
I guess there is no official word from HTC neither...?

Could anyone with more programming skills than me try one of the following:
1) wrap this in a zip file we can flash from recovery
2) incorporate it into the Xposed framework
Many thanks if someone can accomplish this!
I think it's just HTC wanting us to buy new devices that's all.

Maybe you can try my patch: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tqxfjwwja3uaqsn/install-patch.zip
It uses a libssl.so from a LG Optimus L5 II (4.1.2) and it works on my TrekStor Surftab Ventos 10.1
If your device does't boot after you've installed it:
The patch creates a backup of your libssl.so at /system/libssl.backup.so, so just replace /system/lib/libssl.so with that backup file
Cheers, Xorg
Edit: updated link

I'm not sure how to fix it, but this is why you're not supposed to install OTAs if you're not on stock recovery.

I'm s off, have twrp installed and on stock ROM. Would like to install this update, or get a 4.2.2 or 4.3 stable fully functional ROM. Do you think flashing stock recovery and then ota would work even if I'm s off. Should still be able to boot an ruu from fastboot even if I boot loop. Suggestions on custom roms?
Edit: Used flashalot's recovery switcher to flash stock recovery, rebooted, then flashed the ota update. After update I lost root, but still have s off.
Plan on fastboot flashing another recovery, then flashing su binary again from the new recovery.
Hope this helps.

This might help...
If you have the OTA.zip file... but custom recovery and such like TMUS application removed..
This will wipe your phone. Making a backup is not optional !!!
http://sadevil.org/blog/2012/12/23/manually-flashing-an-ota-update/
This looks somewhat straight forward.. If you want to get the OTA downloaded:
got to settings .. and manage to get the software update.. It will download eventually into your Download folder ..
Do not Apply the OTA at this point.. select install later!!!
pull the file on your PC/Mac/Linux box and modify as described in the URL above..
reboot your phone and the OTA should not bother you ... if you have pulled (like in remove) or at least renamed the OTA file..
Before you push Firmware.. and such make sure you have made a backup with CWM !!! or whatever method you are using!!!
also make sure you have your custom recovery image somewhere available and maybe a su.zip cwm file as you may loose root as well.. not sure..
If you have rooted your HTC one S your self - this should not be hard to DIY..
Currently I am at work and cannot try it out myself .. but definitly will do it once back at home later..
Godspeed to all of you brave hackers..

Same situation here. Stock ROM and Rooted and S-off. Constant nag to apply the OTA update but not working. Looking for a way to do it easy. How should I proceed? Don't want to wipe the phone and create all my settings again if possible. Can I reverse S-Off and apply OTA update somehow?
can any one provide me a link to the ota update

You need to flash a custom recovery after the update.
Recovery can be found in original development thread.
After that add zip on SD and flash via recovery

this is the solution i had posted on another thread...
Don't worry. Same thing happened to me. After factory resetting your phone, open the HTC app store and search for GMS. The first option will have GMS (followed by some Chinese...it'll have the android icon). Download that. After its downloaded, click on the GMS app from the app drawer. Follow the instructions and it will download the Google apps. Once downloaded, remove your SD card and type *#*#442#*#* in the phone dialer. It will automatically restart your phone and install all the Google packages!
