How to unlock Lumia 820 from AT&T? - Nokia Lumia 820

Hi I use T-Mobile USA as my cell phone company. Recently I was able to get a hold of Lumia 820 that is locked to AT&T. T-Mobile for example always unlocked my phones if they are locked to T-Mobile, but looks like AT&T is a different story. I have even unlocked my Android phones through rooting and so on. I have searched some paid unlocking sites, although they do have Lumia 820 listed, but AT&T is missing in the list of carriers. Is there a way to somehow get/extract the sim unlock # from the phone?

A customer in good standing with AT&T USA, can try calling customer service and ask them to SIM unlock the phone so that you can use your own SIM card while travelling to Europe. They may do this or they may try to sell a discounted Europe travel plan that uses your existing SIM card. If you don't get the answer you like, call back on a different day.
Good luck with any other tactic until Q2 2013.

Thanks for the info! I never had AT&T and with T-Mobile it is easy, just like you suggested about calling AT&T. So you are saying that while the phone is exclusive to AT&T for 6 months, then I won't be able to unlock it for the time being?

How can i get the unlock code?
I Bought the nokia lumia 820 AT&T on eBay but i live in Mexico and i can't use AT&T Carrier because AT&T doesn't exist here, exist TELCEL and i need unlock the phone.

Has anyone successfully unlocked the lumia 820?

I called AT&T USA today and asked them about unlocking the Nokia 820.
I told them I was travelling to Europe on business and wanted to be able to buy an local SIM at the destination airport upon my arrival rather than pay for an international plan on the AT&T SIM. The rep said OK, checked a few things and told me that my phone was already unlocked and that I need not enter a code to unlock it.
I asked if I could test this out by popping in a T-Mobile SIM tomorrow just to confirm and he said it should work no problem.
I don't have a T-mobile SIM to try. Can someone please try one in their phone purchased and activated on the AT&T network? Can someone please call AT&T with the same line about travelling to Europe as above and see if you get the same info from the customer rep?
I wonder if folks trying the get their USA-sourced phones online outside of the USA first need to activate the phone on a USA carrier. Maybe it does some magic over the air.

If you need for example, T-Mobile sim card, then just ask them. It can be deactivated or brand new sim card that doesn't have service. If you phone is locked it will show you the box to type in the code. If unlocked you shouldn't get that.

I bought broken Lumia 820 from Ebay. Repaired it but after inserting my sim I got "locked" message. Can´t get the unlock code from AT&T also as I am not their current or previous client. Also I live in Europe. Seller was not able to get the unlock code also ( electronic shop)...
Tried to make FW upgrade but no go.
Any help ?
Unlocking via PUK code?

PUK codes are for sim cards, won't help with the device. When a non ATT sim is inserted it should ask for an unlock code. You'll have to purchase one online. If it does not ask for a code and just states the device it's locked that means the incorrect code has been input too many times. At that point there's nothing that can be done.

Any good place for unlocking it cheap?

Have you all try to flash your lumia with other firmware?
I think flash your lumia to other firmware can unlock your lumia,

If it were that easy would it already have been done? Has anyone tried flashing?

I think your phone is flashed by your carrier, they was modifying the firmware, so it locked and you can't use another SIM Card
So I say again to try flash your phone with another firmware, try global version like APAC, etc, . . download your firmware and flash it with Nokia Care Suite, if you want back to your stock firmware just use Nokia Software Updater for Retail and it will select, download, and flash it automatically with your stock firmware
hope it work

no, unlock the locked phone is not easy like that
you don't need (can't) to flash the global fw
all you need is the code to unlock from locked carrier to make it accept other carrier (for me is AT&T)
the unlocker code is differnce on every phone
here is my unlocked AT&T 820 running on Viettel (Vienamese carrier)

[Q] Droid2Global SIM Unlock codes not working.

Hey everyone, hows it going? Anyways, I have a Motorola Droid 2 Global that I bought from a Best Buy in the United States about a week ago and I've been trying to unlock the SIM restriction so I can use my phone with Telus and or Rogers. I've gone with several companies who have taken my IMIE code and returned with unlock codes. They seem to find the exact same code each time however I input the codes and they are rejected by the phone. Has anyone else had this difficulty? Is it because I bought them from Best Buy? I tried calling VW and I've gone through several levels of Tech Sup but they return the same old bs about 60 days or 90 days. One rep went so far as to say it was an FCC regulation! I had him repeat that to me 3 times and I laughed each time... Sorry for the brick wall post!
TL;DR: Moto D2G from Bestbuy/Verizon, online unlock codes not working.
unlock prob
Yep have the same thing. My US buddy bought the phone at wirelesshack or something like that. I posted my issue here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844724&page=3 Waiting for leobg to get back to me with some info.
I am just wondering with regards to an issue with me not inputting the codes correctly or whether I need to do something different since I'm in Canada and not able to connect to VerizonW at all regardless. Another company sent back another unlock code and that didn't work either. Each code is 8 digits long, anyone get anything similar in length? I also double checked my IMEI on android and behind the battery. Do I need to set up the Telus APN and leave my sim card in the phone over night or anything unusual like that?
Just note, I don't think bestbuy would have any way of changing the firmware before selling the hardware, not only that but this is an interesting fact. I was able to use the one step rooter right out of the box as listed on one of the android modding forums (where they mentioned unlocking it as well)

Looking into the issue further, I'll report back with status, thx for replying
Alright so just went through the site linked by leobg, they said they could not provide a code. What I'm going to do now is get a rogers SIM card and attempt to add the APN info so the phone can connect to something (thinking it can activate on VW) and then try to enter the unlock codes. My theory is that our blackberry plans (which our SIms are linked too) are not able to support the sim network request or something like that. Further information on the phone:
sys version: 2.4.29.a956.verizon.en.uss
basebrand: N_01.48.00R
Kernel version :[email protected] #1
Build Number: VZW
ERI: 6
PRL: 58005
I don't know if this will help at all but at least if these numbers match then theoretically these should be the right unlock codes but my must be connect to rogers theory should work? IDK I basically give up, my paper wieghts look good tho....
My data is the same. I don't however get
ERI: 6
PRL: 58005
lines in system/about. Have you switched phone to GSM/WCDMA only (with the verizon sim inside?) Maybe that shows up when in Global mode only (as this feels likc CDMA parameters).
I am surprised the unlockers I give you told you they cannot supply code. Wondering if it is something speciffic to your IMEI, have you given them the IMEI? Have you spoken to them or you went thru the web site? I'll PM you.
Alright so here's what has happened so far:
-2 Droid 2 Globals.
-4 Unlock codes (2 unique ones for each phone's IMEI)
-None of the unlock codes have worked with the following:
-CDMA mode prompt, GMS mode prompt, Global mode prompt, physical keyboard, onscreen keyboard (both landscape and portrait)
-Motorola cannot help me with the issue
-Verizon gives the same old BS about having to subscribe for 60 days.
-The extra lines of code under Settings->About->Status only appear in CDMA mode
-Phone will not connect to any GSM based network (even with sim) but will "roam" in global mode
-Some seller from eBay suggested that Verizon stepped up their unlock encryptions between the release date and when I bought mine.
TL;DR: pretty paper weights so far. Going to wait until someone understands the problem and can provide a fix, or at least wait until the unlock companies recognize that the A926 actually exists.....
I can elaborate on any point if you'd like, other than that, no dice

Ok, I have the same issue, now 3 of the unlockers has given me the same unlock codes. My friend in US is going to try activating the phone on his line and try to get the unlock code from VZ (It would be funny if he gets the same codes I already have).
If he's unable to do that, I will have to sell it on ebay for cheap
Will update you on the issue as soon as I get feedback from my buddy...
Same issue here with both Droid 2 Global & Droid Pro...
seeing the numbers increasing...no one has a real solution? This is so frustrating.
"My friend in US is going to try activating the phone on his line ..." --- was he able to do that? Several unlockers told me if the phone has been activated with Verizon first, then the code *should* work .... the code is correct they insist.

The phone was activated on pre-paid when it was initialy bought from VZ, but they refused to give up the unlock code as it was a pre-paid account. Later the pre-paid account was canceled. This weekend Dec 18-19 he will activate the phone under he's account as a primary phone and ask for the unlock code directly from VZ...will let you know if this works, because if the code VZ provides will not work it will be really messed up.
Will keep you posted...
Everyone trying to unlock their phone - if code does not work - do not try same code again! You have total 10 attempts after which phone will become hard locked and will not accept unlock codes anymore.
Another idea - has anyone tried using smart unlock sim? I had great success with these. Unfortunately my phone is already unlocked and I cannot try the smart unlock sim anymore (didn't think about that). Those can be bought from ebay for few bucks. Seach for "UNIVERSAL NO CUT UNLOCK TURBO SIM CARD" on ebay - 5 bucks with free shipping.

You just stick it under the SIM card. Isn't that expensive if somebody with problems unlocking the D2G wants to give it a go

Will have to try if other method will not produce results. Although I have my doubts as to will it fit in the SIM slot on D2G as it appears to be very tight. I know they claim it's very thin, but still....
I tried buying the code from monileincanada and they responded saying: Your unlock code is return as Not Found from the server. This is not because your cellphone have a problem, but just we cannot found a code to unlock it. We are sorry but in this circumstance we are not able to unlock your cellphone and we have refunded you.
What problem can my phone have???? Is it because I bought it on prepaid and not on a month to month contract?
Well - mine is also pre-paid. But it was in-store purchase and activated in-store. Mine unlocked fine and I got the code from that same place. At least they are honest and give you refund if they cannot obtain code (hats down to them for this!)
Here is a theory - just pure guessing from my side - maybe unlock code gets generated once device gets activated on Verizon's network.
Anyone who unlocked without ever been activated please chime in (to exclude activation from the factors).
Another theory - mine was one of the first ones that got available in store (first batch). It unlocked fine. Maybe those which are from Best Buy and online Verizon store are newer ones which are not yet "entered" the database. But that sound silly honestly. Moreover another user reported he got two codes from Verizon directly and he couldn't unlock.
I say the safest bet at this moment is to try unlocking sim. I know they are tight fit in the Droid2G, but it is not imposible. My old Milestone has exactly the same sim slot and I was able to use my unlock sim in it - affixed it to the sim with tiny bit of scotch tape (avoid covering contacts!) - it is a snug fit but can be done.
One of the guys that sell the codes on ebay says that Verizon adds an extra security code on some phones randomly so that they can't never be unlocked. He says there is 50% chance you can unlock it.
Can this be true?

OK here's the end of my story...with the happy ending. My friend caller Verizon and tried to activate my phone as her husbands. VZ was giving her instructions and she was relaying it to me...they said to punch in *228 and press send to get the activation console, sadly it did work for me as it said "Activation is unsupported on your network" I had Global mode turned on and connected to what I assume was a Verizon partner (roaming). After some frustrating 20-25min talking to VZ my friend just asked for SIM unlock code, which VZ rep gave up reluctantly as he wanted the phone to be activated first. Anyway he provided 3 codes: One of the codes I got from the unlockers which did NOT work, the other was all zeros (!?) and the last one was unique to the two i got from the unlockers. I punched in that code and sim was unlocked. What's weired is that they provided me with one code that didn't work and said if the first two don't work try all zeros. Any thoughts on what that might mean, because if VZ changed the encryption keys on the later models then they should not have provided the code that didn't work in the first place.
But why is that you didn't use your universal sim card unlocker that you used on your previous Milestone on your new Droid 2 Global?

If you are subsidize by Sprint, then maybe it's lock. But if you pay full price, then you are overpaying but it should be unlock.

Also want to know if I can pop a T-Mobile SIM into a "Sprint" Nexus 5
It shouldn't be locked. I got mine from Google play though. The Sim should be free from what I know. I got mines from the best buy store because nobody at sprint store had any clue a couple of days ago

HUH? Sprint wanted to charge you for the SIM??? Was it a corporate sprint store? or just a kiosk or an affiliate type of store?
Assuming you are a Sprint customer, Corporate Sprint store should not charge you for the SIM, and if they do, you can call customer care and ask them to sort it out.
I got mine shipped from Sprint Worldwide support - but it was too slow - took 5 days, and I was getting impatient, so I went to a Sprint Corporate store nearby and asked them for one - they gave me one free of charge (they kept telling me - "we don't have one for the Nexus yet" - and I reminded them that the ones for the S4 or the HTC One would work just fine)

If phones are locked and you pay the full amount, you still need to get the unlock code. I popped my sim in right out of the box. The Sprint version is the exact same phone. Same model number, same build number, same kernel version, got the same 125mb update right at the power on. There is not one bit of Sprint branding or bloatware. I know my phones...this is my 8th smartphone and my 4th Nexus (S, Gnex, N4, N5) and I can assure you that it is the exact same.
I want to try out a tmobile while I'm still activated on spring. Does anyone know if I can just swap the sim or will CDMA voice still be active?

'Activation code' is their term for MSL. Some techs aren't familiar with 'MSL'. Or simply ask if you can get your Activation code/MSL.

T-Mobile will work just find if you swap the SIM. You may or may not have to go and put in the correct APN settings with the TMo SIM in, though mine works just fine. I've also tested with AIO Wireless.
You may also have to go in to *#*#INFO#*#* and set the radio to 'LTE/GSM auto (PRL)' mode. When going back to Sprint only you'll want to use 'LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)' mode.

[Completed] New LG G2 phone - this phone is permanently locked and cannot be unlocked

Well as my unfortunate luck has it, I wanted to upgrade my old Nexus 4 to a LG G2 D801 unit. I bought one new-refurbished off ebay and it just arrived recently.
I tried to put in my WIND mobile sim card and realized the phone is not detecting it. After looking into the issue for the majority of the day, it seems that the phone is hard/sim locked.
I went into the area where one would go to unlock the phone, only to be greeted by this unfortunate message.

Now first thing I did was start searching the interwebz....and I can't seem to find much on this.
I am not sure what I can do. The shipping back to China, well that's out of the question due to the high cost.
I can't use the phone as it's a T-Mobile device.
I can't unlock the phone because it's hard locked.
Is there anything I can do to get it working? Does anybody know how I could possibly reset the counter for this?
Thank you in advance.

Hi and thank you for using XDA Assist
Unfortunally the phone is locked and only the T-Mobile carrier can work on it .
It is locked from factory default state. So there is nothing you can do to unlock it (from what i know).

Hello, thanks for the reply. That's unfortunate for me I guess.
Now when you say, it's locked from the factory default state...If I drive down to the states and buy a T-Mobile LG G2 from the store, would that be also hardlocked?
I am trying to send this phone back to China and I know T-Mobile stores still have the LG G2 as certified pre-owned.

Yes if you buy another T-Mobile phone, you will stick on T-Mobile only and you will not have the ability to use other carrier other than T on that phone... But you will still be able to Root and make all those stuff but to change carrier will not be able to.

Thank you Nilac.
I am a bit confused. The phone I received, it seems like the SIM code unlock was entered 10 times wrong and thus is why the phone is hard locked to T-mobile now.
If I buy a phone from the T-Mobile store, it will be hardlocked also? I don't understand why it would be, since many people have those phones unlocked?

Unlocked but not "Unlocked" from carrier they still stick with that carrier.
If you are looking for example on the S6 forum you will see that there are separated forums for Verizon, T-Mobile etc... They are separated because the phone is not exactly the same as the international model as the carrier modified it, so a separated development needs to be done for that phone.....
You simply cannot uncarrier (from what i know) only if you took your phone to a professional guy who is super expert and can do it, but from what i know it's impossible to uncarrier a phone.... Better always to get an international one in order to avoid these problems

I think maybe I confused you or myself.
The T-Mobile LG G2 will work on the AWS frequency that I require here in Canada for WIND mobile.
If the phone is locked to T-mobile, I could use a service online, provide them the IMEI and the network the phone came from and then I would be given the unlock code to allow the phone to read a SIM card other then T-Mobile.
Example video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m4ru062k_M
Notice when he puts in the prompt to get to the network settings, he can put in a PIN. When I tried that, I get the locked message.

Well it remains to you just to try then

Frontier LTE (ATT) Switching Providers

The ATT site says they're currently not unlocking the Gear S3 even if the full purchase price is paid:
"This watch is designed to work on our AT&T network with 4G-LTE Bands 2 and 5 and 3G-UMTS 850/1900MHz. At this time smartwatches are not eligible for unlock to use with other carriers."
and
"Due to the nature of the smartwatch devices, it’s not possible for these to be unlocked. In order to do so, you would need to be able to remove and replace the SIM card. With any smartwatch, the SIM is integrated into the device itself and therefore not removable."
Does anyone know if both of these statements are entirely accurate? I've never used a device with an embedded SIM but I know that devices with a SIM slot can be unlocked regardless of what the carrier states. Will I be able to unlock a Gear S3 Frontier with LTE from ATT to work on other carriers?
I think until people start getting them and messing with them it's tough to answer. Mine is shipping for the 18th. I will have it in the next few days. Not the same, but I did use ADB and unlock the bootloader on my Huawei watch and even installed TWRP and a custom rom. Being this will be an AT&T device I am doubtful things will be unlockable. The e-sim excuse they told you does sound plausible. If you can't change the Sim, I doubt you can change carrier. Time will tell.

My understanding is that these watches have an esim which is software. With that in mind, I doubt the phone is actually locked in the same way our phones are. The issue might be that they can't erase the network values which are written to the esim. They might be written to ROM which might explain why it would be a bit more difficult to erase. Of course this is just a guess so time will tell.
Swordfish
It's an interesting question. First we'd need to know if the ICCID and SIM number used in carrier versions is customized and unique by carrier. For example, did AT&T provide Samsung with a sequence of SIM numbers to pre-load on all "their" phones? Second do any or all of the carriers have the ability to input foreign (generic Samsung or from another carrier) SIM numbers in to their system? For example, if all AT&T's SIMs start with 88888 can they manually input a SIM provided to them that starts 12345? As far as I know you need an AT&T provided SIM to access their network from any device. I have no clue but if the first item is yes and the second no an AT&T Gear would only work on AT&T's network. It could roam on another network as an AT&T device but couldn't be used natively on that network.
If the above ends up being true a non-carrier LTE Gear bought from Samsung couldn't be registered on AT&T's network. Same thing with an AT&T Gear on T-Mobile's network. What were people's experiences with the LG Urbane LTE and Gear S2 3G? Whatever applied to those devices would seemingly apply here.

The Gear S3 and S2 are significantly different from the LG. The Urbane 2 uses an physical SIM (not an eSIM). Furthermore, it isn't carrier locked. Also, there are folks using it on prepaid service providers like Cricket. I don't think that any of this is true for the S2.

Hey, I was looking in to the possibilities of getting an ATT gear s3 and bringing it to T-Mobile. And you seem to have cracked it. I have been looking hours to find something that said it was possible. So did you buy it from att for the full price and then requested unlock? And u are not an att customer right?
May I advise that the two variants (TMo and at&t) do not *exactly* have the same supported bands. That may mean spotty coverage in standalone mode, depending on your network location.

I to have requested the code from At&t which they have sent me but the instructions state to remove sim before entering code?

Well. I looked into Samsung site for tech specs and both versions -R765T(t Mobile) and R765A (ATT) support same LTE bands -
B2 1900, B5 850.
It's the mix of AWS and LTE bands that is different. Though the frequencies are the same, what type of network they support on these bands is different. And that may lead to having service in an area or not.

So was anyone able to switch from AT&T to TMO? i requested my unlock code Sunday so it should be here today.

Yes but, did you actually get it unlocked? That's the question
I have also received an unlock code from AT&T, but haven't figured out yet how to unlock the device. I'm going to call AT&T tomorrow and see how to go about doing it. I'll post back when I do.
Also, any thoughts from anyone on using QPST/similar software to edit the radio? I know we're still a ways away from root, but I'm surprised nobody has done this with the S2 yet (that I know of). Seeing as its a Samsung device, I would imagine that its possible just like with the S4/S5/S6. I'm going to try it and see eventually.

SUCCESS!!! I have successfully carrier unlocked the S3 Frontier. I know that simply by posting this people will be freaking out until I post the how-to. I WILL post the how-to when I can recreate the process and get some pics - I don't want to do it until I can verify that its done.

You may have unlocked it but I don't see how your going to activate it on another service or have you done that? My understanding is that the S3 has an esim and its not like a phone where you can put in another providers Sim card and if I understand Sim. Cards and Sim numbers are tied to the carrier so how are you going to transfer a esim number from one carrier to another?

S3 doesn't use sim card at least not the good old sim "card" It has an e-sim built in that can be reprogrammed using the pins under the lower band.

And who's going to reprogram it? Is there an adapter to hook the pins to? So what your saying is to get a simple card and program that number?

Question Network unlock, what are the options?

Hey,

Tried T-Mobile by phone and tweeter chat, won't help at all because I'm not a direct custumer and don't have an account. Tried contacting them several times but they won't help at all although I gave them the IMEIs.
USA Samsung chat and phone support told me they can't do anything and to call T-mobile.
Tried 3rd Party service https://mobileunlocks.com/ paid them 60Euros they said They can't do anything and I need "Device Unlock App" (what?) attached the outputs from their website below. Tried both IMEIs, both same result.
will flashing with Odin with stock rom will do anything?
Thanks for any kind of help....really feel lost about this.

I'm pretty sure you need an account with Tmobile to unlock the device. That is the correct and legal way.
The phone also has to be paid off (to T-Mobile). If the person never paid off T-Mobile, then T-Mobile won't unlock it.
You must be a T-Mobile USA customer and meet all of the SIM Unlock Policy requirements for T-Mobile to SIM unlock any device. You also must be the original owner.

Any recommendation on a reputable online unlock service? My S22 Ultra is locked to Smart (PH)
I have a similar problem. I bought an new s908u with uscellular lock from an official seller on eBay and i live in Europe, i tried the unlock band guide from another post, but this didn't help. I don't have an us sim card, but i have read that if you have a network lock and can put in a sim from the original country and make a minimum 5 minutes call it should unlock itself. But before i buy one overseas, can someone maybe verify if this really works? Because first i didn't even get a message to fill in a network code from uscellular, but now i have s908u1 firmware on it, it askes for it. So my question, can someone verify this method will work with any us sim card in Europe to unlock its network lock? and if not what are my possibilities to unlock it myself with software? 3rd party asked 100+ dollars for it. if possible keep the knox and al security things untouched, i already contacted SAMKEY and they say it is not supported and they are the only reputable one i know of. So i think i am stuck because the seller had a no return policy and i was not aware of the fact that there was an international version of snapdragon, this is what happends when you don't do your research well enough first

i read somewhere else it won't. IF you have 200 dollars to spare unlockboot.com can unlock it, i talked to them today i thought it was 35 dollars, but i had misread it, it was 200 for the s22 ultra, so i got immediately my refund. I am not related in any manner but i was trying stuff with SAMFW and there tool works for certain things, and they recommended unlockboot.com and i gave it a try. But 200 is to much for me at the moment, so i want to find another way. If someone has an sim card from the country of where the phone was bought, i read you can use that and call for 5 minutes, and it should unlock it and then you can use any card. i don't have any usa card so can test it
