[Q] Canadians Able to update to .26

Any other Canadians able to update to .26, ive been trying for 3 days checking updates and havent gotten anything at all for signs of an update available.
Anyone know if our version up here would be slightly different at all?

I'm not in Canada but have had mine for a little over 2 weeks and haven't received the update yet either.

the manual update doesn't let you keep root or does it?
the forums get a bit confusing on that with everyone posting slightly different things at times.

As I booted for the first time the update was there. I will root when it is more solid. Besides I don't need to be rooted yet either. I hear that there will be an update soon to fix the occasional flicker prob on the left hand of the screen.

There is a. 29 US and no OTA update to. 26 WW for me in Canada.... Still at. 17. Do they do this on purpose or is it a bug?

No update yet, though in a way I'm glad because otherwise I probably would've updated and then been unable to root without downgrading (which sounds like quite a bit of a hassle). Since I haven't encountered any major issue with the tablet thus far I'm not too worried about not having the upgrade.
I wouldn't have rooted if it weren't for Sixaxis controller needing it, but while I was at it I took advantage of that to grab Titanium and a few more root apps and am glad I rooted in the end.

Weird.. my Canadian TF300 came with US firmware. The tab was brand new sealed in box from tigerdirect.ca.

That's because Tiger Direct ships product directly from their US warehouse. Same distribution for both countries. You are fortunate, will get .29 update with battery stats and face unlock.. Fyi: For Canadians wanting to upgrade to. 26, go to Asus support Site where you can download and manually install... Just did it

No, it's called Voodoo OTA Root Keeper for a reason... It only works with OTA (over-the-air) updates.

FYI to fellow Canadians not receiving OTAs, Asus has posted the .29 update on their support site today. I just installed, working perfectly. You can find it here: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+TF300T&p=20&s=16 Make sure you check to ensure you install the correct software version. Is confirmed in Settings/About Tablet/Build Number. Enjoy.

I am going to assume now that the bootloader unlock tool is out its easier to flash su and such onto this to root it?

Mine did the OTA update to .29 a couple days ago. Should be pushing to everybody now.

I'm not getting anything either... got mine from BB, was on US .17, returned that due to lack up updates (and not being able to unlock), got a new one from BB which is on WW .17 and still no updates/unlock

By browsing the thread here I feel updating to jelly bean may not work out well for everyone. I got the OTA downloaded and sitting in my tf300, is there anyway to back out of it once it is installed? Please let me know .... TIA

I dont see why not, but you have to unlock BL, root, install custom recovery and flash back to a ICS rom. So if your intent is to stay pure stock and keep warranty, your probably not gonna be able to roll back to ICS if you commit to JB.

I tried to roll back by loading the firmware on internal SD. It updated but left me on jb. My boot loader is not unlocked so I would speculate no, but others are trying to do the same, so you might search other posts for this.

I just pulled the trigger and installed JB. I don't feel much differences. Given I just got the tf300 for less than a week, time will tell.

I'm having issues since I updated to JB and I am BL locked but rooted. Can you confirm this is 100% true, that you can't get back to ICS w/out unlocking and have installed a custom recovery? I was hoping to keep my warranty intact, this is exactly the reason I did. I think I may be sending this back to ASUS to be fixed under the warranty

If you didn't root before the update then no, not without unlocking the bootloader.

I know on my SGS2 i see reasons to root.....hot spot, etc...

Reasons for rooting are generally the same across devices. Now having a WiFi only device kind of negates the need for hotspot, but you get the idea.
Asus has provided the unlock tool for the bootloader, but I've not heard 100% confirmation of someone using it successfully with jb as the ROM and bootloader locked.

The Asus bootloader unlock tool works fine from the OTA JB.

Just picked up the tablet today and this is my second Android device. I currently have a samsung galaxy skyrocket and am a bit of a flashing ROM junky
I have no experience with a locked bootloader device though.
Is it better to root and add recovery in the stock ICS or is it ok to root and add recovery in JB

We are 2 peas in a pod, music. Been flashing the crap out of my SG2 rocket! On R4INS's JB now and....smoove!
But this bootloader is new to me, too. I did the OTA yesterday, when I got the pad. Now it seems I am back peddling,
trying to get up to speed.

It was seeing seanscream as a dev that sold this device for me i love his roms . Funny thing i found after playing around with a tablet.... my phone doesn't feel so big hehe.
Im going to lay low with ics... as much as i want to take jb for a spin :s

Dude, make a nandroid, and try R4INS 4.1.1 nuff said. Only SMALL drawback is flash, and it wont be around much longer...
This mofo has been at it for 2 weeks solid, with mucho user feedback...hell, I even donated $20 to him.
Now....back to this Tablet thing....

Does someone tried to use the same method as for Nexus 7, unlock oem and then install CWM recovery?

OK here are the situations I've found...
Rooting with ICS on this tablet is easy - use debugfs one click method.
Upgrading to jb after being rooted should be OK as long as you backup with something like ota root keeper. I did the upgrade and did keep root this way.
once on jb you cannot wipe data and keep root at this time. The update has altered the /data location severing app from root permission and I have yet to find a way to get it back.
rooting after a jb upgrade is not possible just yet.
Finally, all of these statements are based on a locked boot loader. If you want to unlock, you can pretty much do what you want.

Since Jellybean update is just around the corner, can anyone suggest initial steps to be done prior to the said update?

Don't: root, unlock, flash or **** with your TF700 in any way if you're currently on stock and want the update OTA.
Do: wait patiently and regularly check this forum and/or check for firmware update on your TF700.

Rooting may not prevent the update, I took .30 over .26 while rooted and it applied perfectly fine.

Being Rooted is fine. I don't understand why this is still going around about being rooted prevents ota. You can still receive ota updates when rooted. You will actually lose root when you do take the update. Unless you protect your root with voodoo ota rootkeeper.

That is what I thought, but this is my first tablet and my first ASUS, so I didn't want to state definitively that it would not affect the update.
I've had 2 Motorola Android-based smartphones, so I'm familiar with Android in general, but different OEMs do things differently, obviously.

Nope. You can of course download the update from ASUS' website and flash it yourself, but they won't do it for you no more. : )

1. If you are 100% stock - NO problem with OTA.
2.. If you are just rooted - you can download OTA root keeper from the market and perform a temp unroot your device to get ready(if you want to keep root after the update). OTA should work fine. After the update some people may have to REroot.
3. If you have unlocked bootloader with root or without root, you will NOT able to do OTA update. Once you unlocked your bootloader, OTA no longer works and NO you can't RElocked your bootloader to take OTA. You will have to manually perform the update. There will be plenty of instruction how to do once JB is out.
Hope it's clear for everyone.
4. If you have custom rom, definitely NO OTA update and you don't want OTA update anyway. Just wait for a new official JB custom rom or update manually.

Is it really necessary to enable disabled applications beforehand or it's just another Android myth??

I would err on the side of caution and enable all. Then do a cold boot. Only then, do you do the update. After the update, disable the apps. Then cold boot again. :good:

So if I'm running the Zues custom rom now, once the official jellybean hits I can download manually from ASUS website and flash in TWRP?

Yes you can flash official firmwares with TWRP, though it has been stated there may be some issues with TWRP until they get it recompiled using the new kernel source.

yeah flashing the update with twrp is ok (i think) but then just stick with stock recovery until twrp is updated. No idea if cwm is the same way... guess we should read up in the tf300 forum.

Uninstall ezoverclock. Don't think it works on the infinity anyway, but i had it installed since i used it on the prime. The 300 forum indicated that it will cause bootloops.

Do: Wait for a few days, people will post the good and the bad of this update and you can decide whether to update or not.

New TF300T few questions on rooting etc

Hi all,
After much debate between the Infinity, Prime and TF300 I settled on getting a TF300T. It's new out of the box and is charging up right this minute.
I am coming from a Motorola Xoom which I had rooted running EOS JB ROM and TWRP Recovery.
I've been having a look through the TF300T forums and I see that the general advice seems to be not to be not to upgrade OTA until I have rooted and unlocked, is this correct?
I have seen SparkyRoot but was wondering lso what is the best and easiest method for rooting ? I am in the UK so I guess I have to make sure I find instructions etc for the UK version?
I am not looking to install any custom ROMs yet, I want to see how the stock goes for now. I am interested in getting it rooted though because I have apps like Titanium, Sixaxis Controller which need root privileges.
I guess you guys in this corner of the forum will be seeing more of me now that I have a TF300T. I will see how I get on with this tablet for a week or two before I finally ditch and sell my trusty old Xoom.

I'm assuming you have not taken the jb update. Here's what happened to me...
I was on ICS. I rooted using the debugfs method, in the Dev section. I took the jb update and thanks to ota rootkeeper I was able to restore root with no issue. I had to wipe data shortly after to resolve a problem. That caused me to lose root permission, and I couldn't get it back without unlocking and using step 3 of the jb root guide, in the general section.
I'm now on stock jbwith an unlocked bootloader, twrp recovery, root, and a couple of tiny mods from the Dev section. I consider having twrp much better than maintaining the warranty because you can easily do full backups, and flash things like mods and root. Hope this helps you.

I have rooted my TF300 first then I was on ICS.
I have used [ROOT][TOOL]Debugfs automated root v1.9 - update 7/2/2012 - Prime & TF300t by sparkym3
and after I have backuped my root with OTA rootkeeper - free version.
I have checked my root with Root Checker-Free version.
I have updated my device on JB by OTA without problem.
Restored my root with OTA rootkeeper.
And finally, I have unlocked my TF300 with Asus tool: UnLock_Device_App_V7.apk
Restored my root with OTA Rootkeeper.
Installed TWRP Recovery, which is for my part, the recovery which is more stable
And actually, I'm on [ROM] Asus Custom Rom - JB Overclock Edition V01

It's finished charging now, I've turned it on but disabled wifi so I don't get any OTA updates.
Looking at my build number it says: IML7K.WW-epad-9.4.3.26-20120416
I seen some guides where the build number was important, I'll go back and double check.
I'll check out those links Phil. Going to make sure I read everything properly as I don't want to end up bricking my new toy

Looking at debug automated root its says supported version: v9.4.3.30 for the TF300T (ICS 4.0.3)
Seeing as my build number said 9.4.3.26 do I have to update my tab first?

Do I just do an OTA update to get it up to 9.4.3.29? I guess there will be a succession of small updates and as long as I stop on that one?

All so far so good...rooted and all backed up, just waiting for the JB update to download now.
Just one more thing? I was looking at TWRP and I was wondering how to install it? I know that on my xoom I already had CWM installed and just ran the file from recovery which gave me TWRP but how can I do that with the TF300T? On the TWRP website it says about 2 options:
Install Fastboot Method & Install ADB / Terminal method...both of which I have never done before. Is it easy to do as long as I follow the instructions?

Then you'll need to unlock the bootloader and follow the guide in the general section to get it back. For twrp, go find links to the twrp site in the Dev section. They have install instructions on the twrp site. Again, you must unlock the bootloader to install it.

That is brilliant news! After reading the forums here i thought that now I was on Jellybean I had lost the ability to root. I guess a lot of people don't want to void their warranty by unlocking their bootloader. I had to do the same thing with my xoom.
