[Q] Tab auto-loads TuneIn Radio Pro when docked - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi y'all
I am getting to know my sparkly new Tab 7.7" and generally have managed to fathom out most of its little ways. However, I am becoming increasingly frustrated that, after purchasing TuneIn Radio Pro, this app auto-loads every time I pop the Tab onto its dock.
I have searched through all the settings both within the Tab 7.7" settings and TuneIn Radio Pro's settings but can't see anything that relates to this "feature" - or, more importantly, how to turn this unwanted feature off!
Has anyone else come up against this? If so, do you know how to stop this app auto-loading.
Many thanks in anticipation of a blindingly simple and quick way to sort out this lille problemette of mine.

I had that rainbow things happened sometime when pressing power button while playing video, and eventually rebooted. This shouldn't be normal when it happens every time you pressed it. Are you sure you don't want to take it for checking provided that you can repeat the problem?

Dock No-Op
Download from Google Play and you will solve your problem. This has nothing to do with Tune In radio, just a feature of the dock you can eliminate with Dock No-Op.

I really dont use a dock so i have that problem, but i would like your input since you have tunein pro. Every do often i hzve plsyback issues when i record a station over night. Basically my audio come out either left channel or right channel, never in stereo. I have contacted tunein regarding this issue and they cant replicate the problem. During live playback i have no issues so it only seems to happen when playing a recorded program. Hsve you experienced this or do you only use it for live streaming?

Response to replies to my post
Thanks to all who took the time to reply to my question about the docking problem with TuneIn Readio Pro.
Nascar24usa: - thanks for that info. I will check out Dock No-Op and let you know how I get on with that, it sounds like a solution to me although I would have preferred to be able to change a setting on the Tab 7.7 or within TuneIn Radio Pro - but looks like that's not possible.
AsPh00ny: - I have only just installed TuneIn Radio Pro on my new Tab 7.7 so it's really a bit too early to let you have my thoughts about possible issues you seem to have experienced. I will play with it for a week or two and let you know if I have similar problems. I do mainly use it for streaming live radio, but on my Galaxy S2 I used to record too etc.
As previously mentioned, it's a bit early for me to comment about how stable the program is etc., but so far I must admit that it seems to be fine and everytime I have used it over the last few days I have not had any problems. I really like the app and have had it on my Samsung Galaxy S2 for nearly a year and it never seemed to put a foot wrong on that so I am kinda assuming it will work as well (hopefully) on the Tab 7.7".
On a separate note (not sure if I should post this is in thise thread, so apologies if I have broken any rules) the one thing that does annoy me with TuneIn Radio Pro is the fact that, although you can record programs, which was one of my main reasons for buying the app, I am disappointed that these recordings can't be simply copied off the device and saved as MP3s or something. I have tried but all I see is filenames without an extension and when I try adding an extension to them on the PC no matter what I try they won't play. This puzzles me because I would have thought the recordings were effectively just 'dumps' of the radio station stream and so should be in a recognised audio format? Maybe I am missing something here?
Anyway, thanks again, and I will post again in this thread within the next two weeks to let those of you who are interested, how I have found the stability of TuneIn Radio Pro on the Tab 7.7".
Cheers for now

There is a paid (1,50€) app called "autostarts" where you can set auto-start privileges for each app on your device. This will solve your problem and (if set correct) also increase your battery life dramatically. Click thanks button if that helped you

Re: auto-start etc
Thanks for the replies. I tried Dock No-Op and it was okay, and it does stop TuneIn Radio from starting. However, because I have recently purchased a Samsung book cover type case I am not now using the dock so much (can't use the dock without removing case) I find that the need is not so crucial. Would have been even better if it could stop the password screen starting upon docking... but that's just me being picky! It is a solution to the TuneIn problem so thanks for that.
I looked also at "AutoStarts" but from the reviews I read it would appear that it needs a rooted device, which I don't want to do with my Tab.
Regarding the reliability of TuneIn Radio Pro - it's still early days but I don't seem to have any problems with it. It doesn't seem to update the favouites view when you add a station to the list - it will update when you reload the app though, so I guess that's not such a big problem. Still can't fathom why I can't play the recordings on a PC though - so puzzled that it messes about with the stream data. The only other minor gripe with TuneIn is that I find the recordings don't start recording for several seconds after pressing the recording button. So, for those of you who had issues with TuneIn, I haven't experienced anything major so far.
Cheers
O.Spiv

The 360 app also pops up once you dock the tab

This is an issue with the galaxy note 10.1 as well. When the Note is docked, Tunein Radio pro auto starts. I uninstalled the Tunein Radio app and docked the note without any unwanted auto starts. Upon re-installing the Tunein Radio app, it automatically autostarted without changing any settings. It's no big deal to simply hit the back button to close the app, but as a previous post alluded to, it sure is annoying.

Napster and Slacker Radio Streaming Issues

Hello fellow posters,
I am having a very strange problem that shows its ugly head with Napster and Slacker Radio. The song will play for exactly 12 seconds and then stop. The song will then resume again several seconds later. The rest of the song plays fine from that point forward. I find it strange that it happens on both apps at the same exact time (12 seconds). MOG doesn't seem to have this issue.
I have a 4G signal with at least 3 bars when the issue happens. The problem doesn't occur is streaming from WIFI.
Is anybody else having problems with these apps with their G2X?
Thanks for your time,
Lance
I have the same problem. I was running the gingerbread leak thought it was that. So I'm back on stock same problem.

Napster and Slacker Radio
Does anybody have ideas on how to resolve the issue (song stops playing after seconds almost every time. The song then starts playing again after several seconds).
Is it a phone issue since it happens on both Slacker Radio and Napster? Any setting changes that can be done?
Thanks,
Lance
I haven't tried napster, but for slacker, try version 2.1.191. I loaded it with titanium backup. The last couple versions suck, and apparently not just on our phones/roms. The market comments are BAD. lol...
Not sure how to locate it if you don't have a backup. I'll see about getting the apk somewhere.. It was free on the market, so I can't see how it would be "piracy"...
I have the same problem with Slacker, so it's unusable on my G2x. If this isn't fixed sometime soon, I'll be canceling my paid Slacker account.
slacker updated again today. so far so good streaming over 3g
I had to turn on High quality mode in the settings menu, then the song would cache all the way in 3g. If it's in normal quality, they song doesn't cache all the way and will occasionally skip. Wifi works normally.
I've also disabled the local stream manger in slacker as well. Not sure if that has done anything
I tried again with the latest version and disabling the "local media server" option. Already had high quality enabled.
It actually plays music now. Thanks for the tip. Now if we could get music apps not to stutter when the cpu gets used... Sigh. A dual core should NEVER stutter music when multitasking.
Yes it what the "local Media server" not "local stream manager" . Sorry about that; I didn't have my phone on me.
Glad you're working. Not even sure what that feature does.
i deleted slacker. the damn app wants to run for so many actions. check it out using an app like autostarts. it starts running for a ton of different actions, things that don't even make sense.
winamp is almost as bad,but tolerable.

I disabled Local Media Server too (never noticed that option before), and it seems to be working properly for me too. Thanks everyone!
I have Napster and I have the SAME EXACT problem. The only way I got around it was to download the playlists so it wouldn't skip. It's extremely annoying. I've already informed LG about the issue a month or so ago. Its only on Napster tho. Not Rhapsody or Pandora.

[Q] Did Samsung ever fix the low level volume fluctuation?

Hello,
Did Samsung ever fix the low level volume fluctuation problem through the headphone connection on the 7.0+? Listening to lower level music files at lower volumes resulted in the volume jumping up and down slightly. The problem occurs regardless of whatever music player app is used. The files play fine on the Samsung Galaxy 5.0 player and other devices.
Thanks!
Update: It's not fixed.
This thread is the only reference I could find to this issue anywhere. Is it documented more fully somewhere else? Is Samsung aware of it and planning to fix it? Any references or other help would be greatly appreciated.
I've had my 7.0 Plus for about a week, and yesterday was the first time I tried listening to some classical music favorites featuring very soft choral passages. I couldn't. The volume surges every couple of seconds during soft passages. It sounds as if some demented engineer thought it would be a good idea to add an automatic volume equalizer to make sure the music never gets too soft. No. Very bad idea.
Until I found this thread, I thought I had a defective device or was losing my hearing. I'm glad that neither is the case. Again, please post links to further info about the issue. TIA.

I've had the same problem with 6210 from day one. Other than album art being screwed up, it's the only real annoying problem I've had with the box.
The problem may be in the default player. I use poweramp and don't experience that

It's not just the default player. I've experienced it in the Rhapsody app too. Also see the OP, which says regardless of app and also strongly imples that the issue has been discussed before.

I hear it using TuneIn Radio. Hoping for a fix with ICS.
UPDATE
I've found two earlier references to the issue:
A review on Amazon from last November (reviewer says he's notified Samsung)
A post by this thread's OP, also from November (like me, he thought it sounded like Automatic Gain Control; unlike me, he remembered the right name for that feature )
Again, any more references, especially from Samsung, would be appreciated.
ETA: I found one on the Samsung support page (search for the string "How can I stop the volume" and click on the text to open the answer). It was answered, not by Samsung but by an anonymous user, who said "Sorry charlie, but you've got a headphone jack with a malfunctioning sensor. Sorry!"
I suppose that's a plausible explanation, but against it is the Amazon reviewer, who said he had the same problem with two different units. And then there's me and the OP here.

I installed Poweramp. Nice app, but it doesn't help with this problem at all.
To hear the problem you have to be playing music with sustained passages that are very soft. With most pop, rock, and jazz it won't be noticeable. That's probably why the issue isn't more widely reported.
Try this video in your YouTube app. If your Tab Plus is behaving like mine, you'll hear several volume surges during the first 20 seconds or so. ETA: Crap! I can't post outside links. Here's the last part of the YouTube URL, after the slash: watch?v=6-i1ESIRKdA.
One more clue
And I found one more indirect clue in the Samsung Troubleshooting Guide under the heading GT-P6210 Volume Drops When Headphones Are Plugged In:
The volume on your Tablet will drop 75% when you plug in your headphones. This is a preventive measure for acoustic shock to your ears. The volume can be increased after the headphones are connected.

Obviously this proves nothing about the issue we're discussing, but it is suggestive because it tells us that something in the firmware is deliberately designed to mess with the headphone volume.
Aha, so it's not just me who noticed this "feature" then
For anyone who is experiencing this issue and wants to let Samsung know about it in one place, I've started a public thread on their Facebook support wall. You'll have to imagine the first part of the usual Facebook URL since I can't post links. Here's the last part, after the slash: samsungsupport/posts/10150588609036213
Nothing from Samsung Support on Facebook since yesterday morning. One other person has posted there (thanks, Mark, if you're reading this). It would be nice if a few others would chime in.
I'll chime back in. I'm glad somebody else has finally noticed! The problem also exists with the Verizon SCH-i810 (Tab 7.7) but, perhaps, to a lesser degree.
I strongly suspect the (Yamaha?) driver and/or its configuration -- see the original post from November that shows the (configuration?) files. I suspect that file may hold the key to the problem. Problem is, I have no idea what the numbers actually mean and didn't find any documentation for those numbers (data sheets, etc.). I did attempt at the time to tweak a few numbers using my "best guess" by comparing the entries for rx-speaker vs. rx-headphone vs. rx-headset. but no discernible effect was heard.
No prizes for guessing who was raising such a fuss in November.
The "Sorry Charlie" answer is incorrect and I flagged it as such.
UPDATE: I found the 7.0+ /etc/audio files and I have the 7.7 /etc/audio files. There are some differences in the numbers and the 7.7 audio files (LVVEFS) have some comments (!!!) in them so maybe I can track down pertinent parameters.
Anyone else have an opinion or another idea? Is this a waste of time?
Thanks again to everyone who posted here. If you've been watching the Samsung wall on Facebook where I posted last week you've noticed that they haven't responded at all except to ask one simple question, which I answered immediately. Since then, crickets.
If you're experiencing this issue and you feel comfortable saying so in public, please add your comment to the post on Facebook. Maybe we can guilt them into responding.
Thanks.

They just answered about 1/2 an hour ago. They provide a link and ask us to go to the Samsung Service Facebook page and fill out a support form. Might as well. Keep the pressure up on someone over there.
Agreed. I just submitted their form with full details. We'll see whether they follow through.
A hint to anyone posting there: Samsung appears to be great at stalling by asking follow-up questions. Include as many pertinent details as possible in the initial post, such as model, wi-fi or data-enabled, serial number, firmware, streaming or stored music sources, which apps, etc., etc., and so forth.
Well, at least they're responding, but I'm not sure it's helping. This morning they replied to my original Facebook post:
We can suggest checking to see if the same problem occurs in a different set of headphones or speakers. If the problem persists we will suggest servicing your Tab.

I've already checked with different headphones (not speakers; I've already told them several times that it's a headphones-only issue!), so I already know that the problem isn't due to one set of headphones.
This gives me zero confidence that they actually understand the issue. (Except that it's possible -- though in my view unlikely -- that it is a defective headphone jack.) I'm reluctant to send it in for service. The problem is subtle enough that someone lacking a trained musician's ear is likely to just say it's fixed and send it back. We already know that the fellow who mentioned this issue in his Amazon review got a second unit exhibiting the same defect.
Also, I have not heard from Samsung directly in response to submitting the official support form the other day, so I can't now tell whether or not this latest comment on the wall is coordinated with that other support request.
Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone here dealt successfully with Samsung support in the past, on any issue at all? How did you do it?

I agree. I don't believe it's a headphone jack issue either. I'm going to wait until ICS comes out and then decide what to do if it's still an issue.
I've tried adjusting some numbers in the .txt files -- no change yet. Maybe I'm adjusting the wrong file. Who knows?
I'm surprised there aren't more complaints. It's easy to identify. Headphones, earphones -- doesn't matter. The problem exists with Samsung's earphones. They can't run away from that one. Doesn't the 7.0+ come with four audio files? I can't recall if the problem could be reproduced with those files, because the problem needs periods of relative silence to get into the "AGC" mode. I think the Samsung support is in typical "denial mode". Problem? What problem? Let's go through all the permutations of user error or workaround before considering that there is a problem. It's a matter of problem ownership -- and Samsung isn't owning it.
The questions I would ask are: "Have you tried reproducing the problem?" "Do you know how to reproduce the problem?" "Who has the capability to reproduce the problem, if you can't".
Yes! Just found the Samsung music files, going to try to reproduce with all Samsung supplied software and equipment.
UPDATE: Reproduced the problem on Galaxy Tab 7.7 with all Samsung supplied files/software/equipment:
MATERIAL:
1. Samsung supplied "Music Player", no EQ
2. Samsung supplied music file "Silky whisper.mp3"
3. Samsung supplied earphones, white with button and mic (I think it's pretty generic to Samsung)
Steps:
1. Start Music Player.
2. Make certain volume is all the way down and the sound is muted (slash through speaker)
3. Press the volume up button once, twice (once to unmute and one step higher)
4. Play music file. Note how the piano cuts in and out throughout the song, especially during the opening of the instrumental.
I suspect that Samsung is going to hand this issue off to Yamaha. The constant in this matter is the Yamaha-sourced audio chip/driver/library/configuration/firmware.
Here are some files to compare from /etc/audio (I added the model to the name):

Agreed. That's why my first question to them on Facebook was "Are you aware of the problem?" No way will I send my GT7+ to them for service until they take that step.
I'll try your steps later today and see if I get the same result. Maybe we can gang up on them.
I have one additional datum since last week. I've tried to reproduce it on Bluetooth headphones, and the problem does not show up. It's only there with plugged-in headphones.
I suppose this could be interpreted as evidence slightly inclining toward the "defective headphone jack" theory. But I still don't think so. If anything, I think it could be related to the Self Aware Volume Ghost on the Galaxy Nexus, which Samsung apparently did acknowledge. Except the Nexus bug was much more obvious since the volume control indicator actually appeared on the screen and changed.

Some Questions before i buy

Hey
about to pull the trigger on getting one of these for myself, just hoping to get a few questions answered before i do
how well is media control handled by the watch, is it capable of at playing or pausing media from 3rd party media apps? (i dont like the standard android or samsung offer so use an alternative)
is it capable of playing videos on the watch screen from either locally stored or internet streamed sources?
i have read a couple reviews on poor connectivity between the watch and the phone, constant dropping of the connection and if the battery drains completely it requires a factory reset to become usable again
anyone experienced anything like this or have advice around it?
if anyone who has one and is kinda enough to answer these questions for me it would be greatly appreciated
Also another question that came to mind
how functional is the mapping app for the watch?
can i look up a destination on my phone with google maps and have that information relayed on the watch?
(i ask this because i know the watch uses a different maps app and not sure how well it works with google maps)

I use the media controls with PowerAmp, Spotify and Google Play, which works very well together (play, stop, previous, next and volume).
I haven't tried viewing videos on the watch, but I've read that it too works well using a File Manager app found in the Gear app store.
When I setup the watch for the first time I had major connectivity issues, however that was corrected after a reboot of both the watch and the phone.

There's no simple way to go from google maps on the phone to the watch. You can just start with Here maps on the phone, though, which gives you the same thing. The Here-maps app works, though establishing the watch-phone connection can take a few tries. Here maps is a pretty solid navigation app on the phone, and offers free downloads of maps globally, so you're not always dependent on a data connection. When you set up the navigation on the phone, you get turn-by-turn directions on the watch, with a buzz as you approach each turn. More useful walking or biking than when driving, in my experience.
There's also a paid watch app called Gear Navigator which uses google maps data for turn-by-turn navigation. It's innovative and keeps getting updated, though in my experience a little unstable.

About connectivity: the couple of times I've drained my battery I have not needed a factory reset, and in the month and a half I've had my Gear S2 classic, most connections work most of the time. But I do wish the connections were more reliable: I have had problems, usually fixed by just turning the watch off and on (no reset), and sometimes rebooting the phone. The hardware and interface are so great, it raises some people's expectations for performance very high, and then they get disappointed by the small bugs. So if you buy, know that it works, it's cool, but it could be more reliable, and with luck might improve over time with updates.
I have found the Bluetooth connection to be very good. Much better than the LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE. Because the BT is so good on my S2 that I never really needed to use WiFi on the S2, and because the wifi on the LG Urbane was not great and I was testing wifi on the Urbane, I did discover that I wasn't getting notifications on the S2 over wifi. I factory reset the S2, and it has been great since then. When I turn Bluetooth off on my phone. S2 goes into Standalone for 15 or so seconds and then goes into Connected Remotely and notifications and such work perfectly. When I turn BT back on on my phone, S2 goes into Standalone for a few seconds and then into Connected via Bluetooth. That's how I expect it to work.

Random Media Pauses.

If I open galaxy apps, it tends to pause my music player after a few seconds, sometimes it does it even if im just at the home screen with apps closed. Youtube will also pause randomly. I have axtually disabled bixby, turned off ALL notifications, allowed background data for youtube and samsung music player, and disabled optimisation for them.
Heres the weird thing. When I had poweramp, it didnt do it so long as I had "pause for long audio cues" disabled. And now I downloaded sound assistant and allowed samsung music player to play over any audio and then it doesnt pause. I cant seen to figure this out.
The root of the problem seems to be samsungs audio focus not working properly, but that aside, I cant find what service or app is triggering some invisible and silent audio cue. Any ideas?
I experienced something similar to this while I was traveling. I had the phone bluetoothed to the car. The only things that I had running (that I remember) were Google Play Music, Google Maps (with GPS enabled, of course), and the Weatherbug app since it was storming while I was driving.
The music app would randomly pause and I didn't know why. I haven't experienced it again since then (a couple weeks ago) but I haven't needed google maps since then, and honestly haven't been driving with all those apps open simultaneously since then. I can try it again tomorrow actually, as I have to drive about an hour out of town for a work assignment. I can report it back if you like.
This won't necessarily narrow it down since we may have totally different apps on our phones that may be causing it.

I tried to replicate the problem (even opening a lot more apps on my phone simultaneously) and couldn't get it to do it. I guess that's good for me. I know there have been updates to several of the apps I mentioned since I experienced that problem, though, too. Don't know what to tell you. I remember in the past sometimes deleting all of my bluetooth connections and then reconnecting sometimes helped. But who knows...
I'm traveling again today and next week so we'll see again. If I experience again I'll let you know.

[Bug][Resolved] Bluetooth media buttons not working

I just got a Google Pixel 6, upgrading from a Samsung Galaxy S7. I'm running MX Player Pro (Activated) version 1.42.13 (ARMv8 NEON).
Attached are the files that were generated when I hit the "Bug Report" button under More Settings. I tried hitting the "Save to File" option, but never got the confirmation message that one had been generated, and couldn't find a generated file in my phone. I've zipped them together and tried to name the file according to the expected zip filename.
On my previous phone (and whatever version of MX Player was on it) the play/pause/forward/back buttons on my headphones worked as expected.
I could also use those media controls when my phone was paired with my car.
They worked fine when the video was in the foreground, background, or in PiP.
Now on my new phone they aren't working. I'm not sure if I'm missing any permissions, or if there's been some other software change.
I've tried it on 2 different pairs of Bluetooth headphones and in my car, and the media buttons aren't working properly for any of them.
The same devices are working fine on other players (BlackPlayer EX and Youtube), so I believe this problem to be specific to MX Player, and not a fault with the Bluetooth devices or my phone.
If anyone knows a setting I could change that might fix this, I'm up to do whatever testing will help.
[Edit: Sometimes, if the app is playing in the background, the media buttons are able to pause it, but not unpause it. Again, other players seem to work as expected with the same BT devices.]
Seconded. Not working here either on a Samsung Galaxy S6 with activated Pro.
Toggling settings>Player>Media Buttons gets it working for a while.
Just noticed this thread after raising a new one. Doesn't respond to the buttons on my Fiio DAC

Doesn't seem so - this Bluetooth issue is being reported all over yet works fine in VLC - also the chromecasting options in MXP suck compared to VLC. One wonders why I paid to activate Pro when VLC is free and is demonstrably better.
Yeah it's a joke. I reported this to them 4 weeks ago and it "may be fixed in a future update". Seriously?
I use Note 20 ultra, Android 12 & I faced the same problem.
My bluetooth headphone can not control the MX Player.
Nothing happend when press button on headphone.
When will this bug be fixed ???
Never by the looks of it. No update for months, nothing on the beta channel. This app is abandonware. Time to find sometjing else.
Now fixed in latest beta version 1.51.7
Confirmed, it's working on my headpones again as of release version 1.51.8 (ARMv8 NEON). Will test in my car this weekend, but I'll mark this as Resolved.
[Edit: Sometimes, if the app has been dismissed and the video's been paused for a while, it takes two Play presses for it to start again. I think this is on the app's end and not my Bluetooth device. Still, it's functional enough to be usable again, so I'm going to keep this marked as Resolved.]

It is unlikely that any dev will notice any random thread. There are two active Mixplorer threads. Posting in either will almost certainly get the attention of @HootanParsa when she returns.
(The only reason this thread came to my attention was someone quoting it in one of the Mixplorer threads.)
