You can install from market some free app that requires root and see if it functions well. In general picture says nothing.

download an app called "root checker" from google play.
It will check if your device is rooted or not.

The simplest way is to just go to your app drawer and see if you have an app called "Superuser". If you don't have it you are not rooted.

[Q] Updated to 4.0.4 and lost root, how can I root again?

Assuming the phone is already unlocked?
Could not find a way... please help!
Assuming your boot loader was already unlocked, you can use abd to install a custom recovery and flash the latest superuser zip file. The SU zip is on here but I'm on my phone at the moment so you'll have to do a little searching.
That happens. Simply root your phone again using superuser.
Here is the page:
http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-root/how-to-root-nexus-s-or-nexus-s-4g-on-ics-or-gingerbread/
Follow the part after the how to unlock bootloader.
Thank you, but...
I did that, put again the super user app after flashing the recovery, but it doesn't seem to work.
The super user app is still there, but it doesn't give su permissions...
(for instance, in ROM MANAGER it can't get permissions and also in a terminal doing "su")
Okay are you sure your phone is rooted?
If your answer is yes, click the superuser app. Once in there, there should be a ROM Manager logo in apps. Click that and check your status. The status should be allowed. If not on the bottom left click the button with an android face and a grey line in the middle. That will allow the app. Visa versa if you want to deny. Now just to confirm, go back to your main superuser page. Swipe left to go into log and your recent entry should be allowed for rom manager.
Now heres a tip. Back up your current rom and everything you want. Play around with the settings and apps so you know in the future what "this, that" is. If you stuff up, it doesnt matter. You have a backup. Just restore that in recovery.
dosnt work :/
the allow option doesnt work. perhaps there should be a different su file for
this version...
You may try to uninstall super user and reinstall it again. I had similar issue. And it was fixed by doing so. But I am not sure if it works for you. Good luck, mate.

Google search superuser 3.0.7 and flash it while in recovery. You shouldn't have a problem unless your root process went wrong somewhere.

I installed a new version and it worked

[Q] Stock ROM says it's custom. How to fix that?

Hello everybody!
I got a P3110 with TMH (T-Mobile Hungary) CSC code. I upgraded it to stock 4.1.1 with multi CSC via Odin, rooted with cf-auto-root, switched CSC to XEH, and now my device says it's custom ROM. Update check said it was a modified device. I tried Triangle Away, now Update check doesn't even come up with error or anything.
KIES displays it as XEH, so does it in the EFS folder except the prodcode.dat. It contains: GT-P3110TSATMH
How can I match it up the product code with the CSC? How can I fix the stock/custom paradox?
Thanks.
stock/custom paradox is not a paradox! rooted device are already customized! the root itself makes it not working with any official update method. you cannot remove that!
so you need to download the rom you want from sammobile.com and flash it via odin (note: you will lose root and nearly any other data on the phone so do a backup them, and the flash counter will incrase)
if you want to stick to TMH software chose their version from sammobile. then re-root it with cf-auto-root
Then I'll stick to XEH. Thanks!

That's not true. It's a bit more complicated than that.
If you run stock and rooted, with 'su" enabled, the tablet runs a tracker that will see root requests that happen during boot and will mark your device as "Custom". Simply installing applications (which customizes the device by adding new files) won't trigger the "Custom" flagging. Installing a nonstandard kernel probably will be detected.
If you don't modify any of the stock applications, and disable "su", the device won't detect that it's rooted. I use SuperSU and use it's capability to disable/hide "su". So far, the tablet seems satisfied that it's stock.

You are right i do not think about that because i use chainsDD SuperUser .
I use SuperSU, too, and I froze bloatware apps with Titanium. Not more modification. I thought that the problem was caused by the non-matching CSC/product code.

Verizon Xoom Wifi/3G root?

I'm a NOOB to this forum and Android as well. I have a Xoom Verizon Family Edition I want to root. It shows up in my device manager as MZ600. It's not activated on Verizon, if that matters? I'm using Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. I've tried the rootkit from XDA with no success. It did change 'a few things' but the superuser icon is not in my apps. I've done a reset to factory settings and am lost due to all the conflicting information I'm seeing on the net. So I'm hoping somebody/anybody can point me in the right direction.

Download a rootchecker app and see if the tablet is in fact rooted or not. If you are, just download a superuser app off the market. The rooting process doesn't always install a superuser apk

[Q] My new OPO came with Superuser

Got my phone on Wednesday and haven't unlocked my bootloader or flashed anything yet. Today, I was fiddling with my settings and turned off Developer Options. When I turned it back on I noticed that a new #SuperUser option appeared.
i.imgur.com/I6mCxaX.jpg - doesn't let me post links
Now, I tried root checker and it says I don't have root access. So I guess the Superuser option in the menu doesn't actually do anything. I'm not sure if I maybe download Superuser from play store if that'll work. Haven't tried.
I read on another forum that a user had their phone rooted when they received it but after the latest OTA update it broke it. The first thing I did when I turned on my phone was update it so I don't know if that is true.
Do you have Superuser in your settings? If not, does turning off/on Developer Options make it appear for you too?
With this setting available is it possible to activate root without adb/custom recovery?

This all boils down to your final question, and the answer is no. In order to properly install Superuser you must have a custom recovery installed.

No you don't. Root has nothing to do work the recovery. The current popular method to get the root binary into the system partition is to use a custom recovery to write to it but you don't need to install the custom recovery, just boot it. There's also the towel root method which I believe doesn't use recovery at all. He talking about having the cyanogenmod superuser app in settings. He might have one of the Chinese phones that have been flashed with the cm11 nightly which comes with the cyanogenmod superuser app, I don't know.

Nope, it's the global version I bought from oneplus with an invite. Can you try doing what I did if you haven't already rooted? (turning off Developer Options and then on again) and seeing if it appears for you too.

[Completed] Can rooting can cause entering of malware?

Can rooting can cause entering of malware into your mobile (with root permission!!)? Are malwares are more powerful in a rooted mobile? Can it be avoided?
Refer the #45 point in the below link:

What about the very popular chinese tool which roots your android device within minutes! The softwares installed by these chinese tool are found harmful by the quick heal antivirus.

Note: I am not blaming any dev. I just want correct information about the same.
Thanking you in anticipation
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Yes, rooting your device makes it less secure. It allows apps to access a lower level of your system than the manufacturer intended. But you usually have to allow root access to apps so if an app is requesting root and you don't know what it is, don't allow it.

Just downloading it will replace the chinese super su?
You'll have to run it. It should update the supersu binary.
Installation failed

OK, see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434453 There is a section on how to use supersu to replace the binary. It's a little more involved that I originally thought.

That thread has been closed because the software was injecting malware and connecting to remote server...
And also there is no solution to my problem of not getting updated.
All right, see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-l3-l5-l7-l9-ii. And Aguayo this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2429931. You might want to return your device to stock to get rid of all remnants of the root method you used and then start all over.

Thankyou that one is very useful thread.
I want one suggestion-
Should I first flash the slimsystem's rom and then root it again and unlock bootloader etc.
or in any another sequence?
iamrohanreddy said:
Thanks for using xda assist. I would say that I would actually prevent malware as whenever an app uses root it will prompt the user grant it root permission. And even if it takes the permission the superuser app will show a small toast on the screen. If u are still unsure I would recommend u to download cm security as an antivirus from Google play store. Hope it helps !!!.
