[Q]Anyone upgraded from transformer 101? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, did anyone here upgrade from the transformer 101. I just purchased a tf101 and had no idea what so ever that they had 300t. Only after I made the purchase on amazon I checked back a few days later and they recommended the 300t to me. I was very upset lol. But anyway I just want to know if there is a visible performance difference in the two devices? I really like the new slicker look of the device but if performance is almost the same I can live with it for a while until I can get it sold and get upgraded to the 300t. Thanks for any replies.

The TF300 is faster and has much better build quality. I had the 101 when it first came out and returned it because it was such a POS.

LOL wow I hope its not that bad because I'm suppose to be getting it on friday. But if it sucks like you said I will definitely try my hardest to get it sold and upgrade to the 300t.

Maybe you can contact amazon and exchange it for a 300 , they have really good customer service. Just say you were unware of the new model......etc etc

decisions, decisions, decisions

Hi all
Just after a few opinions on which tablet to buy.
I am looking at the TF300T, TF201 and the Acer A510. Anyone got any opinions on which one is best value for money?
I was drawn to the prime originally but the GPS and wifi issues put me off. I then got drawn to the cheaper transformer pad but have been reading that the Acer A510 is a better performer and has better battery life (for the tablet to tablet comparison anyway).
Can't make my mind up!
I am also wandering if its worth waiting a couple of weeks to see what is announced at Google I/O, nexus tablet maybe?
I would definitely wait and see what the Nexus Tab's specs and price are, but even if they are nice they won't compare to either of the tablets you're considering. Also IMO the TF300 is better in almost every way once you add the dock, most likely the battery comparisons you've heard have been just the TF300 v.s the Acer A510 but that doesn't factor in the TF300's keyboard dock battery. With the battery it slaughters the A510, and you wont find a productivity option this good anywhere else. Also having the dock add not only a battery and physical keyboard but it adds a full-size SD card slot and a full-size USB 2.0. I may be a bit biased but as long as you are planning on buying the keyboard dock with the TF300 its a no-brainer.
I would recommend the TF300 if you need a tablet soon. If not and you can afford it you might want to wait for the TF700. At one point I considered the Acer A510 also until I heard about the heat issues. I currently have 2 TF300's, one perfect 32gb, and a 16gb currently at Asus being repaired. And for my smaller tablet I have a Galaxy Tab 7.7. As far as 10" tablets currently available the TF300 is the way to go IMO.
Thanks for the replies.
In the UK you cant get the TF300 without the dock, at least not from a shop anyway!! You can import one or use a shady online e-tailer.
My problem is that I am getting fed-up of waiting. I have been lusting over an android tablet for months.
I think I may well have to wait and see what the nexus tablet is. i'm probably not interested if it is only a 7" version. Really want a 10" tablet myself.
I have a nexus S for my phone and definitely prefer the stock android experience and the very active development scene that goes with the Nexus line of devices.
May still end up giving in and buying a TF300 though!
Thanks all.

believe me, the TF300's Stock OS is as close to stock android as I've seen on a tablet for awhile, and if you're worried about it becoming outdated, this thing has top of the line specs and will last you for a good long while.
problem for you and me is there is always a better tablet coming in six months.. I bought the TF300 and like it so far. I love having the dock because I use pocket cloud remote desktop alot.
Unfortunalty I know I want a windows tablet when they become available and will prolly buy one too.. If you can wait then prolly when the one comes out you want now there will be a release for a new one and you will tell yourself, should I wait for THAT one?
Get the TF300 its nice.. If i wasnt using a dock though i would do the ipad. I like the screen format better for tablet use..
Just got home from work to find a check from the tax man for £430 so guess I'm gonna spend it on the TF300T then! Thanks everyone for your opinions.

You can't go wrong with the tf300, I just got mine last week and I love it. My brother has the tf101 and the 300 blows it out of the water. My wife has the 7in galaxy tab 2 and it is a great tablet, some of the best speakers of any tablet I've seen, but I like the larger screen. Before I made the plunge to a larger tablet, I had a nook tablet that I heavily modified and put ics on it, a great affordable beginners device.
The 300 is such an awesome device, my only complaint is that I didn't get one sooner.

Worth upgrading to the tf700

Sup guys. Just wanted to get your opinion on the tf700 and whether or not its worth buying. I actually have the original transformer and was waiting to see if it would be worth buying the new infinity to replace my og. So tell me what you guys think. Is it worth buying? Are there any major flaws similar to the the prime that came out last year? Thanks in advance for the help.

Never got the OG Transformer but I had keyboard envy, lol!
I love my Infinity. It's the only possible replacement for my dearly beloved but aging Xoom.
I have had the TF101 AND TF201 and now I have the TF700T. Its the best unit of all of the Transformers tablets and very close to the iPad3 as far as what I ask of both of these tablets to do. I am also sure after the TF700T get the Jelly Bean upgrade that it will make the TF700T better than the iPad3, so much so I will be most likely putting my iPad3 on the eBay block. IMHO get the upgrade to the TF700T.

Much much smoother and fun experience
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
ilostmypistons: All Android devices are a smooth, and fun experience once you root them and get a custom rom on them. I am waiting out for the developing to begin. I owned the OG iPad, lamented the purchase afterwards, sold it, proceeded to purchase the OG Transformer, have not looked back at another tab since, followed ASUS. In my personal opinion as an Infinity owner, and previous OG/Prime owner, and it is only personal opinion certainly. ASUS defines the Android tablet experience, even if the devices have flaws at production. All devices have flaws, my Gnex has flaws, but while Samsung defines the premium Android phone experience, ASUS defines the tablet experience. Galaxy Tabs are nice, though they ultimately feel too 'phon(ish)' to me. I suppose if you are looking for a slightly limited device, with a highly diluted version of Android...tab away, to each their own, though ASUS defines it to me. The UI is not too heavily skinned, the Android is relatively pure (no less pure then a standard CM custom build) the hardware is intense, and I have used each of my tabs as a standard laptop replacement for about 97% of my online experience.
PS: Oh, and I have YET -knock on wood- to experience any of the defects people are mentioning in these forums, on my infinity, and the Prime defects, certainly not present. I have a C7 model, so relatively recent
PSS: All my own personal opinion, no flame war intended, to each their own lol
Had the tf101, have a tf700 now. Android feels pretty much the same as on the tf101 (same lag spikes when dragging the menu etc.), of course the performance in apps is better, the screen is better etc.
But one thing is bad: On the tf101 the release of the pad from the keydock was really easy. Snap and it´s off. On the tf700 i need some force to release it, it feels almost sticky. And yes, that was from day 1.

Bought the TF300, returned it for the TF700. Returned the TF700 as well. Android just isn't good on tablets - it's all lag city on every one of them. The Asus (or Tegra based) are the worst - more apps crash than normal.
On the Infinity I love the 1920x1200 HD screen. Makes for watching movies, reading and streaming so much more exciting and playing games are visually improved from your standard displays . Love the Super IPS+ , I can take it outside on a nice day and still be productive. The Camera is top notch on the Infinity! The best I've seen for a tablet device. Love the tablet Keyboard dock form factor with added battery life and more memory it has pretty much replaced my laptop. It can handle NTSF for the options of larger portable hard drives, that Windows consumer will love. Love the elegance look. I cant wait for Jelly Bean to hit. Fast updates is also very nice. It has its own issues just like any other tablet out in the market fortunately Asus has the quickest updates I've ever experienced. More then likely Infinity will get JB before Sammy.
So its really up to your needs. I love the Stylus on the Note. I'm an artist and would be nice to have something like that around when needed. Also the multitasking features of the Note is cool to! Infinity can do it as well but you will have to go to the Playstore and search for floating apps like Stickit or Overscreen. Although its hard to pry me away from all the features that I love about the Infinity. Both devices are powerful and fast. Maybe I'll just go buy the Note as well for my drawing needs....

Note has pen input
Samsung = high quality
open source, lots of custom roms
Odin = awesome
less expensive
overall very, very good tablet.
If you need a keyborad theres always bluetooth keyboards and i THOUGHT i saw a keyboard type dock tho not as awesome as the transformer's
Personally tho, i prefer the 700, i like that its thinner than the galaxy tab or note, i like the full sized keyboard dock with USB and SD slots, i like how its taken everything i throw at it and asked for more. I also love the extra battery life in the dock.
If you want the keyboard, go Asus. If your not going to use it that much, go Samsung.
I owned the tf 101 and the prime and now own the infinity. I think its awesome especially compared to the prime. I'm so glad best buy exchanged mine. I love the infinity. It's everything the prime should have been. I have zero issues with my infinity as well

The Prime was garbage. Pure and simple sh*t.
Infinity is everything i expected from the Prime but didn't get. I believe Infinity will be good for a while. Android has a HUGE following, and its all based on numbers.
There are a few build issues, and I'm gonna return mine, but getting another.
Relax, this tablet will be around for at least one per two years

I have got that one too.... really nice and fits all the niches that the infinity is too big for. Grab one, you won't be sorry.
Original transformer = still getting updates
Prime = crap but still getting updates, tho i dont know why people would still keep it when most cases they can upgrade to 700
300 = ok, lots of people have it, getting updates
Asus is very bad for QA, slow for customer service, but one thing they are damn good at is supporting products they make with updates well after they come out. And even after Asus stops giving updates for this tablet i think its got enough people behind it that the community will continue to contribute.
Probably doesn't matter a whole lot if asus moves on.
Seems to me there will be tons of customization as this model matures.
Just browse thru the millions of posts on the whole of XDA.
Folks are still tweaking 2 year old phones and tablets.
Heck the wife and me usually go about 2 years on tablets and 3 years on laptops.
Don't do like us...just use it till it melts down.

All these device makers have essentially abandon their work as soon as it appears on sale for consumption.
The attitude is the next best thing...
You'll never win that game.
why would they abandon it so soon? If they announce another tablet, would you buy it? Given that you already know how quickly they abandon devices?

Having owned a TF Prime, Infinity, and now the Nexus 7 the 7 is a surprisingly capable tablet.
Although Asus has it's fair share of build quality issues my Prime was rock solid and it was the 1st batch (pre-order) to boot. However I like many Prime owners took the Best Buy loophole and got an Infinity as a replacement since Asus discontinued the Prime even though they said they wouldn't. The Infinity has a noticeably crisper display, better color representation, as well as some better pre-installed apps like the stock browser and keyboard when compared to the Nexus 7. Despite this if you are willing to give up 3" of screen real estate the Nexus 7 is a much more polished tablet and has increased mobility, as a guy I can still fit it in my jean pocket.

Spot on, the Nexus 7 is the opposite in that it looks like a cheap, crappy car but it's been tuned out the a$$. The Nexus 7 not only uses a weaker version of the Tegra 3 but also uses slower ram than the Infinity but doesn't suffer from the same I/O and "browser not responding" issues, its amazing what optimization can do.
They are no stopping support for this tablet.... that is just silly. Like others have said, just check out their previous track record with their older devices.

[Q] Get rid of the Infinity?

I am awaiting the arrival of a brand new ASUS Transformer TF700.I have read almost 90% of the issues, pros and cons with this tablet. This has thrown me for a loop and as an IT student I don't think one should have to be on a constant lookout for such an expensive item.Fortunately for me the tablet comes with a 14day return for money .I am not even going to open it,I am thinking of replacing it with the NEXUS 10. I am really afraid of taking a chance with such a tablet that can go defective at any time. There is no telling just how good the NEXUS 10 is,but from initial reports its better than gambling on the Infinity. What are your views on this ? Is the Infinity worth the stress ?
If you don't want the Infinity than get the Nexus. They are two different products for different purposes and use cases.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
It is all a matter of personal preference.
I owned the Infinity for 3 months before selling it. During that time, I exchanged it twice thinking I kept getting a defective tablet, because each one was slow, sluggish and had the occasional screen flicker. Not to mention the bad I/O. Another thing that bothered me is, most of the apps I used, and games I played, even YouTube, looked really washed out. I kept it until the JB update to see if it would make the tablet any better, but it didn't(to me anyway it felt more sluggish after). From day one of owning the tablet, I tried pretty hard to convince myself that I like the tablet, but after a while I gave up, and decided to sell it.
I bought the Nexus 10 when it launched, and from the moment I got it, I loved it. It's smooth, it's fast, the screen is awesome, and it feels real comfortable to hold. The front facing stereo speakers are also pretty cool, they sound great, and they can get pretty loud. All the apps that I used on the Infinity look way better on the Nexus 10.
This is just my personal opinion and preference though. It all depends on what you are going to use it for, and what you prefer.
I have owned the tf700 for about a month.
This is a fact. The read/write speed to the internal flash is really slow. To overcome this problem you will need to unlock and install a custom ROM/APKs. This will void your warranty.
It's not that the tf700 is unusable with slow flash IO, instead it makes the user experience so very aggravating.
I am going to get the ASUS TF700T for the holidays. In 8 days to be more precise. I can't wait. I am a big techie and want flash some custom stuff to it.
Also waiting for Nexus 10 to come to my country and most probably its bye bye to my infinity then.
User experience just isnt what it should be. I also have ipad and even if I hate itunes and iOS I must say that the performance is so much better. And I am talking about the very first ipad.
You could think that there is something very badly wrong with Android but I also own Samsung Note 2 and there the performance is perfect. Also what i have tried some Samsung tablets they are smooth also. I just dont want lo-res screen on tablet so will try Nexus 10
The nexus 10 has pretty much the same issues. But everyone's so busy drooling over it they forget to read the Nexus 10 forum and see that there's hardly any improvement.

I just got a nexus 10 and a week old tf700 and the user experience on the n10 is far better than the tf700. Everything just works and hardly any lag. I'm not sure how an unlocked tf700 compares though. Where the n10 fails for me is the lower contrast level of the n10. Black arent as black either. And the lack of kb with extended battery. I'm not sure which to keep.

I thought it was just me that thought the tf700 was not all it's advertised to be. Whatever browser I use seems slower than it should be and seems to force close too often. The biggest irritation is that I can't keep the email working. I have MS Outlook on my PC and used that to put email on my Razr Maxx and rooted Nook tablet and they work fine. On tf700 it either doesnt work at all or works a day or 2 then all emails disappear. Sometimes it will load a few msg then as soon as I read one all the rest disappear. I have uninsalled, reinstalled several times and even tried to install it using K-9 mail. Nothing works. Is mine a lemon or an I just doing something dumb? I just know enough to be dangerous!

Honestly I don't know why I bother to respond to a thread like this, but the TF700 Infinity is the best tablet available, bar none, once you have unlocked and flashed a custom ROM/kernel. The best one for performance, smoothness, speed and stability is without doubt CleanROM Inheritance v2.7 with Clemsyn's oc kernel (gpu oc to 700). With a few additional tweaks available during ROM installation, nothing out now comes close to the Infinity. It's worth jettisoning ASUS warranty to unlock the goodness.

Any info helps man and thank you. I'm stuck between my n10 and tf700 right now so I'm really concerned that unlocking wont make it on par with the N10. Dull screen and no kb dock is the only thing steering me away from the n10 but performance is awesome. But I might have a hard time reselling an unlocked tf700 or I'll probably have to take a major los$. Christmas time rolling around so I have to support my hobby and xmas $hopping the best I can =)
An unlocked infinity is by far the best thing you can find. The community has offered a lot to this machine that Asus just couldn't. Laggy Internet are you kidding..? With browser2ram outperforms my pc. 870 on browsermark bench. Yes the io issue is there its poor hardware but we have come a long way since stock now you can't even notice it. This think now flyes. Plus dock plus amazing screen that you can actually see outdoors. N10 or ipad come out in the sun and play.. No way..

I have rooted mine, installed a custom ROM & kernel and my tablet is getting better benchmarks that my buddy who has an Nexus 7. OH, let's not forget about the extra 3 inches on the display and extra storage compared to the N7. That makes a HUGE difference too. I'm buying the dock/keyboard for my Asus this evening. As far as I know, the only keyboard available for the Nexus is bluetooth.
I have personally seen and used the Nexus 7. I am very happy with my 10", 32gb Asus tf300t and if I had to make the decision knowing what I know now, I would choose it again over the N7.:good:

So I purchased the TF300T from Best Buy and got them to price match GameStop. GS has a no opened returns on anything, BB has a return opened/unopened till 1/24. I'm sure my brother will like it, but if there are any defects or what not, I rather go to BB. I have the Infinity 700T and love it myself so it'll be nice to get him something comparable instead of the N7. Thanks for the response BTW.

Glad I could help out.
I'm sure that he will like it. The TF300T is a very nice tablet. :good:
The normal retail price I'm not too sure if the tablet is worth it but I got mine 16gb for 282 delivered from groupon and thats a friggin great deal.
Especially when in the UK its over 680 dollars for 32gb
Its a 32gb tablet with a tegra 3 processor running jb. Yea, pretty great deal. That's 100 less than what my wife paid on fathers day of this year
