Unless the bootloader is unlocked, no way am I buying another Motorola. I regret buying this damn Photon to begin with but given Sprint's weak phone selection, its not like there was much else go choose from unless you wanted an iPhone.

This brings new hope

I TOTALLY agree.
I'll take the Nexus all day over this.
Motoblur is pure trash. With CM9 0.51 - the phone smokes a stock version - like a different device.

hmm interesting ill consider it when LTE is available, as of right now, getting a LTE phone is like getting a 3G phone in the areas I am in.
this is the only phone i've had that i havent flashed a custom rom -.- stock is good and stable, just that i've been itching to flash roms heh (didn't flash because i dindt want to lose 4g)

Quad-core? 2.0MZh? 32Gb on board with MicroSDHC card slot? NFC support?
Beats (although I could live without it!), LTE? go with 5.0" Screen? True 1080P Video? under 4oz.? Zumocast to access my home computer? take all my damm money!! my pee pee is hard!
And just think, I was getting ready to just for an EVO!

****, I wanted the EVO LTE.... Now my mind is all bothered with other devices.

id tap it.
but i bet they fudge up and either no unlock or even dont make it a world phone. id be super pissed if they release a successor with less capabilities.

I hope the bootloader isn't locked but if its as good as they're speculating, I honestly don't think I'd care. My wife's upgrade is in August. Maybe I can con her into taking my photon and giving me that bad boy there. Either one would be a step up from her evo shi...ft.

[Q] (Q) Is it Worth To Get a Nexus S 4G @ This Point

Simple as the title says, i'm just curious is there any point now to get one.
My intentions are simply to just have a fun, i don't want to activate the phone.
I'm currently a Samsung Epic 4G user, is it worth me to buy this phone?
I found one off craigslist for 100$ and it has bad esn.
Would there be any use for me to get this phone?
Thanks in Advance please don't flame.

A bunch of people will likely say you should wait for the new fancy quad core around that illusive corner or you should get that shiny new joint with the bells, whistles, and whurlies. and to all that I just say, ask yourself these questions:
1. Who has the best development community?
2. Who's been running ics for 5 months now?
3. Who has best mix of functionality and performance?
The answer, my friend, is we do. I learned long ago that hardware is just a hardwired piece of crap without development. And our development, in my opinion, is among the best. And our hardware is nothing to play with either. In fact, I don't think the software is at a level to really use the new hardware. It's like running windows 98 on a quad core machine... Why would anyone do that?
I should add, all this is considering you plan on rooting and flashing. If not, get something else.
You without me is like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes...

Well of course I'm going to root and flash lol I'm no noob at all just wondering why is it that it has boot loader? And funny thing is the epic has all of the same specs except has a KB, Sd Card Slot, And Soft keys actually light up brighter haha. But ill have to give this a thought, BTW is it really hard to root it? I remember for the Epic was simple and easy.

If you just want to have fun then heck yeah buy it! Haha, there's a bunch of ROMS to flash and probably the most ICS ROMS that are stable besides the GSM NS or the G Nex. You can make it your dedicated mp3 player to lol, I've heard that our NS's have some of the best audio hardware around coupled with voodoo sound And yes it is SUPER easy to root!

unlocking the boot loader is as simple as "fastboot oem unlock" rooting is also really easy, you can turn it into a massacre machine or make it to last a week without charging, a great gallery of modification have come to beeing that give you even more freedom and.. well a lot more. well for 100$ i'd definitely buy it...again

How would it last a week on a small battery? I have the same phone pretty much and had the oem 1500 mAh and on CM7 usuing VR (Scheduler) and Conservative (Governor Clearly lol) and was heavy UV as well and can barely break 15 Hours. Now I have a hyperion 3500 mAh And most I've gotten is 2 days with about 2 Hrs of actual screen on time. I hopped on netflix other day and straight watched it no interuptions except after movie wifi went out and turned it back got 6 Hrs on battery and about 5 Hrs and 30Mins of actual screen on time. Phone was awake the whole time pretty much. I can post screenies but a lil later busy right now. If it can last you a week what are you doing? Are you actually using the phone haha? Thanks for the input guys considering buying it.
Edit: not to mention I use Juice defender as well to help it out and trust me it lasts longer I've tested it you just have to use correct settings to your usage.

This and the Samsung Galaxy S (aka Epic Touch 4G) are practically the same phone with a different case. Looking at features alone the Galaxy has a microsd card slot and FM radio which the Nexus doesn't. I wouldn't bother buying the Nexus if you keep the Touch unless you're dying for an awesome dev community.

So I'm coming from the T-Mobile G2x and wondering what good phone I should get? Something fast, has ROMS, etc. Do you know of a phone getting released for T-Mobile? Should I wait till a new phones gets released? Let me know I can be patient. :good:
From what I've seen only the One S and SGSII are worth it atm.. T-Mobile usually releases a lot of new handsets during Q3

I wish good phones like the Attrix HD or the Razor Maxx from Motorola was on T-Mobile because I would really buy those phones. And wow Q3, that's supposedly when the ICS comes out for the G2x.
I have the amaze awesome phone if you like sense and stock otherwise don't get it. I'm wanting to upgrade but my recommendation is to wait.
1. T-Mobile aws bands are being upgraded to lte.
2. T-Mobile is refarming their 1900 band for hspa+ meaning you can bring almost any phone you want. Domestic and international. And the iPhone as well.
1. Is to be deployed by 2013 maybe complete 2014.
2. Is to be deployed by end of this year maybe complete 2nd quarter 2013
So you can either get something temporary or wait it out

The fact that Moto and VZ find new ways to screw with us after every single update. Trust me, you do not want a new Motorola if flashing Roms is your thing. The Droid 2 and X are the last ones seeing heavy development. Check the available Roms for the Razr and then look at older Droids and newer HTCs and other phones on VZ. Heck, I think the S3 might have more Roms than the RAZR already.

SG3, Note, Galaxy Nexus (get from play store for $350 (until the injunction sets in again), sign up with $30/month 100min 5gb t-mobile prepaid, save $1000 over two years, win).
Next Nexus (with which you can implement the pre-paid plan) and next Note (which with you might not be able to) will also be coming out within a few months.

We know nothing about the next Nexus as of now. Only thing we've heard is that there may be multiple Nexus phones from different manufacturers. That's a may. And yep, phone decisions are tough. Once you accept that no matter what device you get it will be outdated within 4-6 months, you learn to not take it too seriously.

Personally, the new button arrangements don't make much sense to me. I prefer what my Sensation has: Home, menu, back, search (and in that order, too; I have never understood placing menu before home, it's the damn home button it should be first). I don't get the arrangement that phones like the One X have: back, home, recent apps. The only button I don't use on my Sensation is search, so I think the proper 3-button arrangement should be : home, menu, back. A recent apps button is pointless because I find that long-pressing home in order to view recent apps (like on my Sensation) works perfectly. Removing the menu button also makes no sense because it was a useful button.
The removal of menu was effectively based on Google's push to move away from it, which I find dumb. But it ultimately isn't that big a deal and even though I don't like the new button arrangements I wouldn't let that deter me from new phones.
New note is using a quad core exynos lte support as well.

I use the menu button a while heck of a lot more than I do the home key. Menu gives you options everywhere, including inside apps ; home exits to home or brings up recent apps. The menu key is probably more utilized for most users.

One thing I want to point out here: the play store edition of the Galaxy Nexus will work on T-Mobile 4G, and you'll get a bring-your-own-phone discount. And, it's development is perhaps the best possible on any android device
Not as much power as the GS3, and a bit smaller screen, but better software and a bit higher PPI.

[Q] Way to Delay Upgrade?

Hello everyone, I'm a longtime Sprint user, and am looking forward to my switch to Verizon very soon! I currently own an EVO 4G LTE, and am taking a look at what phones I should get when I switch companies. The best available phone right now appears to undoubtedly be the SIII.
I have heard that there are some pretty awesome phones on the horizon, and I would love to get them (HTC's apparent phablet, Razr Maxx HD, etc.). However, I really don't think I can wait until November because I can't possibly tolerate Sprint anymore and their ridiculous lack of coverage in my area (they told me the towers are being upgraded for the past 7 months).
So my question is this: is there any way to delay my upgraded phone price so that I can use it once these newer phones are released? In other words, can I use another phone or do something else in order to not use that contract upgrade until November, even if I sign up for their service this week? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you would just go get the SIII if you were in my position, that's useful input too. I love the phone, I just feel like it will be "dated" in a month. Seems like the worst possible time to buy... I'm in a pickle.
Thoughts?
I don't know the answer to your question but I just switched to Verizon from sprint and got the S3. Waiting on it in the mail now. I don't think u can do what u want but im not sure. Hopefully someone can answer it for sure

This is an interesting idea - so I would need to find a Verizon-capable smartphone on Craigslist as cheap as possible, and then use the "upgrade" later when I want?
Another option would be do the pre paid route until you find a phone you want, then jump on contract.

I had not thought of this option yet, although the thought of going pre-paid doesn't appeal to me for some reason. I doubt my wife would go for it either. Go to the galaxy nexus forum and look at the threads that say prepaid service guides or something similar. One of them says "rule your plan with..." they all talk about the best prepaid plans for the money.
Here is one of the more popular ones http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455014
Obviously you don't have to do it with a nexus, you can use one of the prepaid ****ty phones. They just talk about the plans there. When I read it a long time ago most of them involved getting the prepaid phone and then switching out the sim card so you could just chill with the original phone until something interesting comes out on Verizon.

Only difference would be pre-paid may be cheaper, if I'm reading your message correctly.
Also, thanks for the quick replies everyone! I look forward to joining this community soon. Looks like I'll be getting an SIII this week. If it was just me, I'd employ one of these ideas you guys gave me. But since my wife is included... I'm gonna go the simple route and get the SIII, which was equivalent to my current phone anyway (EVO 4G LTE). Seems like it has the dev support to last the two years like my old EVO 4G did (it can run JB now - amazing). Plus the extra RAM future proofs it a bit. I don't game, so I don't need quad core I doubt. The S4 chip is a beast anywho.
Thanks again guys! See you in the forums soon!
Oh one last quick question: any issues I'll have rooting and unlocking this phone? I've only owned HTC and been with Sprint, so I'm unsure of how to do all of this. I hear Verizon is not very friendly about unlocking phones.

I was concerned mostly because with my phone, only the non-updated ones can be rooted and unlocked right now. Since I had mine since launch day, my original bootloader was able to be hacked and exploited. New phones bought today have different bootloaders that have patched the explored holes. HTC can be evil that way. I know Samsung is more dev friendly, but I wanted to make sure there were no stipulations like with my phone where I would be screwed if I bought a new one now.

Thoughts?

If you are going to wait 3 weeks you might as well wait for the note 2. Just my two cents.

There's still no release date on the Note 2 is there?
Plus I'm not sure a phone that large is for me. I'm getting the Note 10.1 soon, so do I need a phone that's a tablet too? I'm not sure. Plus I won't pay over 200 for a phone. I'm guessing the Note 2 will go for 300 or more.

When I switched to Verizon from T-Mobile in December I went month to month on an OG Droid I owned until the GNex came out and then I upgraded
PsiPhiDan said:
This is an interesting idea - so I would need to find a Verizon-capable smartphone on Craigslist as cheap as possible, and then use the "upgrade" later when I want?

It wouldn't have to be a smart phone. Buy a cheap flip phone or something. However there is always something Coming soon so you may find yourself with that cheap phone for a long time

Should I Upgrade now or later?

So. My mom told me that she's gonna buy me a new phone before I go back go high school, which is 8/26. Now, I don't know if I should upgrade now or later. Obviously, I have T-Mobile. And I love this phone. But truth be told, its getting old. The reason why I ask, is well. Because there's just not so many options on T-Mobile right now.. 1 HTC, 2 Samsung, 2 Google/LG, 1 Nokia, and the new (to us) xperia z. So I turn to you guys, to see what you'd do. If now, what phone would you get? If later.. wait for which phone? iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S/6? New nexus phone? Cheers, guys.

First of all, if your mom is like mine I would upgrade now before she changes her mind lol. I gave that a lot of thought but honestly every phone is going to have its ups n downs so just pick one and enjoy it. If it were me, I would just go with an s4 and call it a day. Htcone is nice, but I think a plastic build comes with a lot of benefits.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769
Lol. Yeah true that. The reason why I'd get the s4 over the one, is that modding it is easier.. well not easier, but I'm already comfortable with Odin. But, I have just always loved HTC and HTC sense.-.

I've never cared for sense. Or TouchWiz. Or any stock framework really. I always do my research and make sure there are a lot of options before I buy a phone. CyanogenMod support is a must. If CM supports it, basically everything does.
and SHAME ON YOU for even mentioning iPhone! lol jk, jk.
If it were me, I'd go with the Nexus 4 if your mom could spring it without breaking the bank (I know you mentioned LG/Google, so idk if that was an option or not). Otherwise, my choice would be the S4 or the Xperia. It'd be a tough call either way.
Get a phone with lte . I tried the exhilarates lte. It is awesome.
N4 is about to get replaced in a few months as it looks. Buy an s4 or wait for the "s5"

You should follow TmoNews. If your into Ubuntu phones, T-Mobile joined Canonicals Ubuntu Carrier Advisory Group.. We might get the Ubuntu Phone Hint hint. I also remember seeing on TmoNews about the Moto X passing through the FCC with T-Mobile written all over it. Wait a few months or so and wait for new phones to come out.

The s4 has sooo many custom ROMs your head will spin.Lol
I'm running Carbon( my favorite) and just installed wallet by Dwitherell. Plus Steve Kondik has one so you can't lose.
Oh and you'll love the camera, nice pics with fast bursts.

Whoa - I didn't know that sort of thing was being used beyond the note 2 I can't take credit for that stuff, I just put it together differently.

If you Google nexus 5 you will see that there are now very strong rumors pointing to a Motorola Google nexus being out q4 this year and it will not be a moto x gpe. If that happens I would wait for the next nexus - that will be my next phone. But if you must have a user replaceable battery and SD card slot then the sgs4 would be the phone to get.

So I'm thinking i should wait until the galaxy note III lol. What do you guys think? Good or Bad Idea?

Might not be a bad idea if your mom is still willing to buy it for you and that's the type of phone you like. Personally I'm still waiting for a Nexus 5 announcement. I'm ready for an upgrade (T-Mobile actually let me out of my Blaze contract 6 months early so I could switch to the new unlimited plan) and, if I were choosing amongst the phones available now, I'd probably get the Nexus 4. Unless I had someone buying the phone for me, if cost were not an issue I'd go the S4 Google Play edition.

No way

I think I'm the only one that bought one of these phones. Haha.

Got one with the $300 trade-in promotion (with new line)! Like it because of LTE B3/7 for international networks.

I really want to buy one, but I won't unless there is some love from the devs here. This is the perfect phone for me but i need root. Hopefully it will come
I bought it because of the 300 trade in. I did not really much of it but it meant I could get 300 for my Moto X 2013 which was my backup phone. This way I was able to get a newer backup phone for cheap. I like the phone though. Honestly the only thing I really really wish it had was an AMOLED screen instead of the LCD. Otherwise it's a pretty good mid range performer for me.

You could've sold it and bought new nexus 6 easily, at least thats what I thought of doing. BTW, did you received any text msg from vzw that starts with MX...?
I am trying to decide if I want to keep a maxx 2 or moto x 2014. Thoughts??? Which one!

Hey guys! Just found this post here and wanted to says that you guys are not the only ones who bought it. Well, maybe in the US (hehehhe) but all over the world this model is called Moto X Play. You can check it for general stuff on the xda page but YOU CANNOT FLASH THE SAME ROMS. appart from that you have lots of stuff there about the phone. Good luck

Hry, about that, although the Moto X 2014 is more beautiful, in terms of specs its way worse than this. Only the processor is better and the screen is amoled (and I think amoled is bad because it burns after some use). Apart from that this phone is better. It doesn't have all gestures like wave to wake up but it wakes up as soon as you pick it. Also they removed the gyroscope but it doesn't make a difference unless you use photosphere or Google cardboard. I would pick the droid maxx 2. Good luck
Ooh, I didn't realize the gyros cope thing until now. Not a deal breaker but, that was a feature I enjoyed using on my original moto X. I've got everything loaded on the max right now and we'll try it out for a few days. I think the battery life and turbocharging is going to outweigh the gyroscope

Also on droid maxx 2, can say I do like the camera more then my previous phone

I bought one because I'm stuck on Verizon and I was returning to Android and didn't want to spend a lot of money. My trade paid for half the cost, so not too bad.
I've just yesterday decided to throw a Data only T-Mobile SIM into 'ye olden Maxx 2 and have been Binge-ing Netflix, and Hulu on it. LOL.

Gents, if you like this phone, this dude is selling XT1564 which is an unlocked Moto X Play, same thing as this and can be used on CDMA (Verizon) http://goo.gl/jA8Nqa

Thanks for the heads up although I think I'm done buying phones for awhile! I would like to go this route when I buy my next phone though because leaving the US carriers out of the update loop seems like a good plan.
Wow it's dead in here. Getting bored with my G3 so I just snagged a used Maxx 2 since I enjoyed my original Maxx and the Turbo. Looks like a nice midrange device that can hold me over for a few months.
True, looks like very few people bought this device.
The reasons why I bought it:
1. CDMA - Verizon phones are compatible with the CDMA network in my country;
2. GSM/WCDMA/3G support to travel internationally;
3. Good LTE-bands coverage, especially Band 20. You can find very few phones which pack CDMA/GSM/LTE (Band 20).
Looks like it is a single-SIM phone - according to the location of the pins inside the sim-card slot.
Has anyone tried XT1564 - does it have the Verizon bloatware?
Something has happened to mine. I decided to factory reset and start fresh. The T-Mobile SIM wont work in it anymore. When I search for available networks, it locates T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T but when I select T-Mobile, it says registering on network but never does. Same SIM I had used in it before. Tried Global as well as LTE/GSM/UMTS network mode. Manually added T-Mobile APN settings as well. No dice. Hmmm
I really like the display of this phone with 64 GB Card .. its a nice phone ...
when Android M going to release ?
