HTC ONE X LTE vs HTC ONE X International - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

As many of you already know, I now have both versions of the HTC ONE X, the international version (released out of Singapore), and the Rogers unit with LTE.
Although it may still take a day or so, but I plan to use this post to offer my opinion on both devices, and to compare the differences in terms of data speed, wifi performance, battery consumption, and whatever else someone needs to know. If I have time, I will try my best to answer your question.
Please remember that my company consumes upwards of 70 hours a week of my time, plus the fact that I have an amazing 2-1/2-year-old daughter, who consumes even more of my time … and she can be quite demanding. Fortunately, though, I have an incredible wife who puts up with my phone addiction.
I’ll try and report back on preliminary data this evening.

Rogers is supplying ONLY the white version at this point. There is no indication at this time if they will also carry the grey version.
ORIGINAL SOFTWARE (ROM)

Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense: 4.0
HTC SDK API Level: 4.11
HTC Extension Version: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_4

Kernel Version: 3.0.8-01111-g188cf26
Build Number: 1.73.631.1 CL54373 release-keys
Browser Version: WebKit/534.30
There are only four system languages: English-Canada, Spanish, French, and Chinese. There is no option for English-US or English-UK.
Initial impression: Fantastic (much like the international version)
Response: Also fantastic on both units.
Security-Unknown Sources default is to allow installation of non-Market apps (surprising).
Total available internal space: 2.15GB
Total available storage space: 9.93GB (In case you ask, yes, 9.93 is correct)
Boot screen is typical Rogers: Red letters with white background on boot, and white letters with red background on power down. The boot process is about 90% HTC ONE X, with only a brief appearance by the Rogers red/white logo; however, the entire power down screen is Rogers.

Yes, you can shut off LTE if that's what you want, and it works. I selected GSM/HSPA auto to see if it would NOT try to access LTE, and it didn’t. It stayed on GSM/HSPA, even during my speed tests.
There's very little bloatware. Here's what's installed, other than standard HTC apps:
Rogers 1 Contact
Rogers 1 Number
Rogers Games
Rogers My Account
Polaris Office
Rogers Ringtones
Rogers Live
Rogers Shop
SoundHound
TuneIn Radio

Here are some initial benchmark comparisons. Keep in mind that my Rogers unit is not rooted, so I could not optimize certain things, including SDCard read/write tweaks.
The international ONE X figures below are the average for 3-4 test runs.
AnTuTu:
Rogers = 7002 / International = 10576
Clearly the Tegra3 outperforms the SnapDragon
Quadrant:
Rogers = 4851 / International = 4670
Surprising!
Vellamo:
Rogers = 2184 / International = 1608
Wow, even I'm shocked!
CF:
Rogers = 12725 / International = 24451 (Yes, THAT high)
This is what you'd expect, so not surprising.
After a second round of testing, here are Test 1/Test 2 comparisons. They are virtually identical (with the exception of Vellamo, where there was a significant improvement). Numbers in brackets () are the average scores for the international unit.
AnTuTu: 7002 / 7001 (10576)
Quadrant: 4851 / 4833 (4670)
Vellamo: 2184 / 2360 (1608)
CF: 12725 / 12750 (24451)
There’s a significant physical difference between the two designs. The glass cover over the camera on the international unit is absolutely flush with the camera frame (the part that sticks out and has been the topic of much negative discussion). This is not the case on the Rogers unit. The glass cover is about 1/2mm below the frame. It's not much, but certainly a lot when you consider putting your phone down on a surface that's somewhat rough. At least there's a bit of space now. Here’s a link to some images of both camera covers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25138374&postcount=78
Here are average data results for the Rogers unit after three tests in each category:
LTE Download: 29.77 to 39.63 Mbps
LTE Upload: 26.28 to 26.83 Mbps
HSPA Download: 5.55 to 6.91 Mbps
HSPA Upload: 1.09 to 2.71 Mbps
The LTE is amazing, not to mention that I was getting only 1-3 bars with LTE, yet I was still able to get fantastic speeds. I was getting 5 bars for the HSPA tests.
The Rogers unit does NOT come with headphones. Here’s what’s in the box:
The phone
USB cable
Charger
Special device to open the SIM slot (although a paperclip works equally well)
Documentation
A question was asked by Flyarnk in another forum about an alleged problem with call NAME display. I can confirm that call NAME display works; however, the call does not show up in the call record.
Both Wifi hotspot and USB tethering work flawlessly, and they are very easy to set up.
I've been using the phone for about 20 hours, and my current impression is fantastic. I haven't yet found a single glitch. So far everything is working flawlessly. The Rogers unit is butter smooth and effortless. I did not get the same impression with the international unit. As I mentioned before, there were numerous glitches and unusual behaviour with many apps when I started using the international unit. It wasn't until I installed the LeeDrOiD ROM when almost every problem was solved.
Both units have the typical HTC FM radio; however, the Rogers unit also has TuneIn Radio, and it includes both FM and AM. Yes, they work great.
Both units support NFC.
DropBox works flawlessly.
The overall finish on both units is exceptional. I can't tell if there's any difference between the two. There are no chips or anything like what’s being noted about the HTC ONE S.
In my opinion, I cannot see any reason why cases would not fit both phones. Yes, there is the very minor physical difference in camera covers, but I can’t see that interfering with the fit of a case.
As you may recall, I mentioned in an earlier post that I have a profile that sets automatically at 11pm each evening to what is effectively airplane mode. This then automatically changes to my morning profile at 7am each morning.
On my previous phones, mostly HTC, but a few by Samsung (see signature), the battery would drop to anywhere from 95% to 92% during this "airplane mode" period.
With the international ONE X, however, it was still at 100% at 7am each morning. This is probably due to the use of the 5th core, where the phone goes into very deep sleep. However, I can now report that the Rogers unit is equally frugal.
Last night I charged my phone to 100%. I unplugged the phone at exactly 10:59pm, and then allowed it to automatically go into airplane mode at 11pm. I did not touch the phone until 5am this morning. Okay, it's not 7am, but 5am isn't much different when I tell you the results. Now you may be asking why I touched it at 5am. Well, I couldn't sleep, so I got up at 4am and went to work. Then, at exactly 5am, I woke up the phone, and the battery still indicated 100%. I can only assume that it would probably still be 100% at 7am, or maybe 99% at worst.
Regardless, it seems that in sleep mode, both phones use almost zero power.
It's not a technical test by any means, but it's a simple comparison. I will do more battery testing tomorrow when I have much more time to leave both phones with their displays on, and both in virtually the same "situation."

Thanks for this, I have the international version as well, and have been pretty disappointed with the battery life of the unit, maxing out at 3hrs screen on time at best during a day, coming from over 5 on a galaxy note.
I can't wait to see the battery life comparison, as i have a feeling the krait will out perform by a large margin, given the battery of the one S.
In regards to the firmware, is there much rogers bloat on it? And did it ship with 1.28 or 1.26?
Cheers

Same here. I'm also running Lee's ROM on my international unit. Since I'm a light-moderate user, I can't comment very well on battery life. I will do much better comparison tests over the next several days.

Addendum: Ongoing initial impression is that this phone is even more responsive than the international unit. Also, the Wifi/Data relationship seems to be better. This auto disable/connect is not always working so well with the international unit.

if you'd like to compare battery of them both, you'd get most accurate results from flashing stock for both and just leaving the screen on at full brightness. otherwise, lots of other things could play into that.
edit: yeah your tests are gonna be inconclusive because you're running a custom ROM on one unfortunately.

In regards to the battery life, considering it normally takes several days for the battery to start giving good results, I wouldn't be surprised to see the battery life on the XL be somewhat lacking and then improve. So I'd love to know your impressions on battery life in a few days.

Do what Engadget does. Max out the brightness and start from a full battery and just loop a video over and over again until the phone dies. That gives on screen time, battery and video time under the harshest conditions.

[Q] Enabling HSUPA on i9020a, ATT

I'm at a loss. I just got a new Nexus S i9020A for ATT, and have discovered that it is not HSUPA enabled. It is consistently 1.8 - 3.0Mbps down (normal for my area) and a MAX of 280 - 300kbps UP.
I've tried adding the ro.ril statements to build.prop as suggested in other Nexus S threads, rebooted 2 times and one more just for good measure, and HSUPA is still not flying.
Also the latency is notably higher than my Atrix was, and my friends rooted captivate w/ custom radio + hsupa.
Any info would be great.
Phone info:
Nexus S I9020A
Rom: Stock, GTJ61 2.3.4
Baseband: I9020AUCKE1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80
ok I hate when I post then find something, but its not DIRECTLY pointing to enabling HSUPA, so I figured I'd post here.. if any one has a thread I missed that is directly addressing HSUPA on the i9020A for ATT, please feel free to chime in and shut me up.
I've got HSUPA enabled.. Heres what I did..
I assumed that any ATT baseband would be crippled as the captivate is.. So I tried something.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
I downloaded and flashed: I9020XXKD1 baseband..
So far, its working great. the 850 bands SEEM to be enabled, although the tower I am currently on i don't know its scrambling codes / site id for primary (850mhz) and secondary (1900mhz) carriers thats visible in 4636...
I'm waiting on my Micro Cell to fire up and if it connects, 850 is operating.
Will post results..
Side note: build.prop edits are still present from other threads, including hsxpa=3 amount others.
What did you ever find out? I am considering leaving my Atrix for a i9020a and am a bit concerned with slow NS data...

[Q] Inspire in use on Viaero Wireless

Ok, I have searched here and elsewhere for info on Viaero Wireless settings and recommendations, but have really found nothing even close to complete or answering a couple questions I have. So I am here to ask a question and also give my experience.
The question I have is about the Radio/RIL. This is an area I have never delved into before, but with Viaero has always been a bone of contention. None of the HTC phones I have had have ever gotten great reception, especially in my work atmosphere (steel building). So I am wondering if anybody else on here is with Viaero has the Inspire and has played with any different radios and if so what they found to work with this network? I know I should try this out on my own. But this site is built off helping each other out by sharing, so why not look here first before trying to reinvent the wheel?!?
As for Experience, I have been with Viaero for about three years and used an HTC Fuze, Pure, and now the Inspire. I have rooted them all and ran a modded ROM on everything. Including bricking the Pure to total uselessness... Anyway I wanted to share my APN settings for the Inspire as an example of what works on this network. By the way currently running Absolution (bad flash)...
APN 1:
Name: Viaero
APN: internet.vedge.com
APN type: default
APN 2:
Name: Viaero mms
APN: mms
MMSC: h**p://mms.viaero.com (that's http...)
MMS proxy: 10.168.3.23
MMS port: 9401
APN type: mms
Anything not listed is left at "not set". This setup works perfectly in my area for data and MMS. This took a lot of testing with the different settings listed here and elsewhere. So hopefully someone else finds this and can use it.
It's best to just test them yourself or use whatever is recommended by the dev. There really aren't a whole lot of radios for the inspire. The radio hardware is made to work on a certain frequency so basically the only difference between what you have and what att users have, is the strength/integrity of the signal that you have access to. Att has its coverage areas for the majority if its users well saturated. I have never heard of your carrier but I'm guessing they don't have the resources to supply as many towers as att does. Check out the radio thread, it just got overhauled today so if you want to test, its all accurate.

[Q] i9020a on AT&T gets only 70Kbps

I recently got a used i9020a for AT&T and for some reason it continually drops its data connection. I immediately put Koush's latest CM9 release on it, I am not sure I even have stock firmware for it (got it used with other custom ROM on it). The bars do not drop, the bars stay at full connection, but the data completely halts to and from the phone it seems like. I cannot even download a 2MB file without it stopping half way. Then after a minute or two, the data connection will come back only to drop again.
It basically makes the phone entirely unusable.
It is using my iPhone 4S SIM card (I would like to switch between phones).
I tried to run a speedtest.net speediest, and here are my abysmal results:
Code:
Ping: 1333ms
Download: 77kbps
Upload: 10kbps
What??????
I am running Koush's latest CM9 release:
Code:
Network: AT&T
Mobile network type: HSDPA:9
Baseband version: i9020xxkb3
My APN is setup as:
Code:
Name: ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email protected]
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Does anyone know what is going on here?
EDIT: tried a second ROM, still the same speed issue.
More then likely a different radio would help this.. Check stickys in dev thread for a list and how tos.. May even be something with the phone too?

Thanks, bud. I flashed Radio UCKF1 and that has me up to 1Mbps down and 200Kbps up. Gives me hope it's not a hardware problem. I will try different radios now. Thanks for your response.
EDIT: Beautiful, with this tweak I now have 3.5Mbps down and 300Kbps up. That's just about on-par with my iPhone 4S. thanks again.

Hi.
With Gingerbread and radio XXKF1 the data connection worked very fine.
After I updated at ICS (wipe and flash the rom) with XXKI1, the data connection is slower than with XXKF1: why?
Sometimes it don't connect.
It is a i9023 with ICS stock, unlocked and rooted.
Thanks.

It works very fine now.
Maybe there were some problem with the antenna in my zone.

[Q] My 3G/4G speeds are better during a phone call using T-mobile. Any reasons why?

I just started using the Skyrocket and I am on T-mobile. It runs well, thanks to everyone in the xda community. But, I've noticed something weird where my speeds perform much better when I am on a phone call than when I'm not.
So I'm basically asking:
What happens when I am on a phone call? (Uses 1900Mhz band? More/less power going into radio?)
What can I do or what app can I use to utilize/turn on what happens during a call while I use the internet?
I have attached photos of this (Juggernaut 5.0, faux 10u, KID radio). I have tried various radios and ran the test numerous times each. It should be a consistent result.
Combos I have tried:
ROM: Juggernaut 5.0, sky-ics
Kernel: faux 9m&u ,10m&u
Radio: KID, VLK1, KJ3, LB7 (Blaze)
APN: wap, epc, internet2/3
Isolated 2g and 3g/4g
EDIT: I apologize, I meant to put this in Q&A, at least I thought I did. Moderators please move it as you see fit. Thanks.
bump. i'd like to know if anyone has any insight to this.

Rogers HTC One X Unlocked on Telus Network

I picked up the HTC One X from rogers on the 19th and unlocked it and set it up with telus.
I'm looking for anyone else who may have done this cause I have a few questions
When I'm in an LTE area my phone will switch to the LTE network no problem but my download speeds are only about 9mbps I know with my HTC Amaze on the HSPA+ I would be able to get around 16mbps download.
Is this just something with Telus LTE network being fairly new? has anyone else got any faster speeds on LTE?
Other than that and the non-removable battery this phone is the bomb I love it not to sure how i'm going to be able to get by with out being able to swap the battery but I'm going to try. I had 3 extra batteries with my Amaze lol.
Just out of curiosity, how did you go about unlocking it? I have had some trouble getting unlock codes for the one I bought. Any help you can give would be great, thanks!

MobileInCanada has unlock codes for the Rogers One X. I haven't unlocked mine, but I have used them in the past, and they've always been reliable. Codes for Rogers phones do tend to be a bit slow to come through them though.

I've been so impressed with this phone I swore I wouldn't mess with it but it's an addiction. Thanks for site name. Good to know a site that has been used successfully before. Hoping for a MIUI rom soon.
Telus HSPA is 2x Faster than Rogers ...

Keep in mind that the HSPA speed on Telus is rated at 42Mbps, while the same on Rogers is 1/2 the speed, or 21Mbps. This is probably why your speed is much slower.
Make sure your APN information is correct, too.
Peter
P.S. I used http://www.cellunlockcode.com/ (cell unlock code) to unlock mine. Like others, it took a few hours. Cost was $12
I've also unlocked my device for Telus network. I got 14Mbps once but average around 9Mbps as well. I don't get consistent LTE 4G coverage however and mostly receive HSPA+ 4g.
Just verifying that if I pick up this Rogers HTC ONE X - I'll be able to use it on AT&T's LTE network once I unlock it, yes?
I called Rogers and the guy told me the phone was the Quad Core version and that it may or may not support AT&T's LTE

The Rogers rep you spoke to is incorrect. The Rogers version is indeed the same LTE version those in the USA will be getting and will work on AT&T given you unlock, get the right SIM, and set up your apn respectively.
I believe there are other members that currently do this.
Just an update on this after further investigation I found that for some reason when the phone shows 4g its actually connected to the hspa network and when the phone shows LTE it is actually only hspda+ network that it's connected to. I'm not sure why it's like this but for some reason the phone won't connect to the telus LTE network.
The specs for the phone show that it should be able to connect to the telus LTE network but I have also read somewhere that rogers might have disabled part of the radio that wasn't being used on there network. Maybe once we get s-off and can flash different radios this will be fixed
Did anyone figure out how to fix this issue? i have a rogers htc one x that i am using on telus network, and my phone always shows 4G, i've never seen the LTE.

Are you sure you're in an LTE covered area? If you are make sure you input the telus HSPA+&LTE apn. Look for it on Google. I've seen LTE on my unlocked One X but only in Vancouver.

I'm also using an unlocked Rogers phone on Telus.
I've had trouble at first getting it to connect to the LTE network. When I changed the Network mode setting under Mobile data to GSM/CDMA/LTE auto, it wouldn't stick.
To fix this I changed the same setting in the info menu by dialing *#*#4636#*# --> Phone info --> Set preferred network mode --> GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
After doing this, I can use the regular menu to either turn on LTE or limit the phone to GSM/WCDMA.
This setting clearly works and when it says LTE I believe it is connected to the LTE network. However, my DL speeds seem to be capped at about 7-9 Mbps too. My UL speeds are around 20 Mbps. In 4G mode I get around 8/3 down/up.
Being on all the networks that we have in Canada.the highest LTE.speed I've seen so far is on Bell. 16mb per seconds and even lower speed with Telus or Rogers.
