[Q] [Help][i9003] [Revolution rc5]

Hi, I installed the version 5, and 2 I have no music player, bluetooth does not work for me, I can not add or remove the startup screens, it is assumed I have 2 launcher, and only one is installed ... And this rom stable? Nose me that, please help..
I have a samsung scl galaxy (i9003), root access, deoxo, and installed the latest version of android revolution ..

Firstly, this belongs in the Q&A section, not in the dev area.
Addressing your problem:
Did you install this over another custom ROM?
Try to deodex again (using the flashable zip file method) and reinstall this ROM?
Take backups (Nandroid and TiB) before embarking on such ventures henceforth.

TiB = Titanium backup, basically same as a PC backup, backs up your userdata and applications, make sure, however, that you place the backup data either on your EXTERNAL SD card or save it on your pc, when you lose your data/flash a new rom, all you have to do is re-install titanium backup and restore the data and apps (although do NOT restore system apps, might cause problems)
Nandroid backup: have you flashed clockworkmod (Comes with CF-Root)?
when you go into recovery mode (either using button combo or using the CWM app you have in your drawer, you can make a backup of the whole system, including FW specific files etc, make this backup, save the data either on external sd or pc, and when u need it, restore using CWM recovery mode (for example when u want to go back from the custom rom to stock and dont feel like flashing - rooting - deodexing
these 2 backups save you a lot of trouble

ah ok, thanks for your help, I just do the bakcup from the recovery mode, it hize kph in the home version, clean, applications do not care much, I'm looking for some kind of custom rom pretty, I like the revoluion the keyboard rc5 gingerbread and val-notification and timing is very important, but vv bluetooth does not work, now cranium use 3.0, but the calendar has a circle in the current week horirible! help

Clone/backup whole phone?

If say I want to send my phone in for a 1-to-1 exchange but find it too much of a hassle to set up everything again, is there a way to backup or clone the phone?
I have tons of apps and root tweaks on my Note 3 so and setting up everything again would probably take me days.
I was wondering if there's a solution for me to easily clone the phone and restore it to the new phone?

What i understand is that u are trying to replace ur phone with a brand new same model and would not like to spend time in setting up the same environment again.
If i am correct, then it is possible that u could have a nandroid backup of ur current phone's rom through the cwm & restore the same in the new phone using cwm.

Careful there...
If you do a nandroid backup via CWM, it means you made a backup of the whole of your device. Including your current ROM.. And after that you send the backup file to your new device, and restore it.
Not That Easy, pal !!
If your old device and the new one have different standard OS type, BOOM!! You will successfully make your new device bootloop, or even worse, Bricked!!
For example, your old device is sony Xperia (any type), and you want to restore it to your new device which is Samsung galaxy tab. You will break the Samsung for sure since both device is definitely different.
Even you have both Sony Xperia with different type, you have to find out if the ROM you want to move/clone is compatible with both of them..

What i do is:
- Backup your phone with CWM
- Install new ROM on new Phone
- Advanced Restore with CWM and i restore only DATA and everything runs fine.
But the recommended will be, backip up all your apps with data, like Titanium Backup, install new ROM on new phone then restore all your apps with Titanium Backup.
You will need to copy all your /sdcard content to the new phone, you can make an adb push:
adb pull /sdcard/ C:\MyBackup
and to the new phone
adb push C:\MyBackup /sdcard
Or just manually copy and paste to the new SD.

I want to translate the system apks like framework-res.apk and secsettings.apk
then I found one of my friend has a same mobile note 3 sprint already translated and same android version 4.4.2
so I copy all of his files completely ( all system files and system apks ) around 2 GB .
and I make a backup of my system using TWRP recovery .
and now I try to install his framework-res.apk , so I copy it to my sdcard and using rootexplore then change the permissions to R-W-R-R and paste the framework-res.apk file to the system/framework folder and it already replaced the old framework-res.apk with the new framework-res.apk which already translated . but the problem I dont see that the mobile make upgrading for the new apk so I go to the new framework and try to install it from rootexplorer but always get a message app not installed.
I change the mount to RO then RW but nothing change only app not installed.
so how to install the new framework-res.apk ?
my second question, can I make a new rom using my friends complete system files and flash it to my mobile ?

Make a backup of your friends phone from its recovery. Restore from yours, wipe data, factory reset and reboot (this way you will lost all your data)
You can also try an advance restore from his backup, restoring only system apps. It may work
Before anything make your own backup.

Hi, have you try using another mobile backup and restore it from recovery to the other mobile ?
I dont think it will work because each device has different Imei number and different information

Can't say that i have done this exactly...
May a backup of your phone, and restore your friend's system. It may work without losing your data.

what do you mean by loosing data ? if you mean that I will just loose only media files like video or songs or contacts name .
It doesn't matter for me , to loose these files , the most important thing that I want to make sure when I make a restore from my friend backup , I will not brick my mobile and there will not be any problems in my mobile system after restore the backup .
I need someone that has try this method and confirm to us that this method is SAFE.
and tell us what should I choose in the TWRP recovery when I make a backup because there are many options that we can choose like system - modem - efs etc.

Yes you may soft brick your phone. You may stuck in a bootloop. That is why you will have your backup. You open your phone into recovery and restore...
I am a CWM user so i can't tell you exactly what options to use.
When you flash a new rom on your phone you will lose all your data in the phone (contacts and app data) not the files in your SD card.
If you restore your friends backup with the his data (not only the system) your phone should be with his data.
Nobody will "put his hand in the fire" for you. I can't tell you that it will succeed 100%. That is why i tell you to make a backup.

P.S.: Soft brick is not a big deal if you know how to deal with it

so you mean the method will not 100 % success working. that is what you mean. I hope some one that had try this method will give us his experience or I should just make a try and see what will happen.

if softbrick happen , if I restore my mobile backup everything will go back normal right ???
by the way my friend mobile still fresh without any data because he just install the custom rom so he will let me to make a full backup from his mobile.

[Q] Restore nandroid backup

Hello Guys,
Since I totally bricked my old Nexus 5 16GB(KTU84P) I am going to get a new one. But I am thinking of getting the 32GB version this time.
Now before it got bricked I made a full nandroid back-up with the help of the Nexus Root Toolkit and TWRP.
Now here are a few (stupid) questions:
~Is it possible to restore a nandroid backup from one phone to another and even in this case a "different" version of the phone?
(I've skipped over this thread real fast http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728266 which says it is possible for phones of the same model)
~If it is possible how should it be done?
~And well if the first question isn't possible, is there a way to read out out the created back-up files which TWRP created and manually restore them(preferable the data partition)
I hope you guys can help me out

Yes, you can do it. Just make sure you're not restoring the efs partition or you'll have another brick on your hands.

Also don't use toolkits next time. Please use the manual methods which are better, safer and teach you the basis you need to recover.

When you run into issues, as many do after nandroid restoring from one device to another... Wiping and Flashing stock with fastboot is the Fix.
Thought I'd cover that up front. ?

Hey guys sorry I didn't answer immediately, but after I saw the posts I immediately ordered a new Nexus 5 (32GB this time). I got it delivered today and like you said I've done the unlocking, custom recovery and rooting manually this time instead of using a toolkit. Which was to be honest way easier than I thought but also way faster than using a toolkit.
But now I've kinda run into a other 'problem'
When I restore my previous made backup (the one from the bricked phone) I first of all only get the options to restore the 'system' partition and the 'data' partition (which is totally fine cause those are the only ones I actually need).
But when I restore the system partition a lot of apps crash on default(It is basically bricked then), and even when I just restore the data partition the same thing happens. (To be completely fair this problem might come from the fact that I used the MD5 verification option when I made the backup but I can't really remember that. but some of my backup files end with the .MD5 extension) Saying this I also used the restore option with check MD5 verification, but needless to say I get the message that they verifications don't match.
So here are a few questions again.
~Like I said before I only really care about the 'data' partition, Is there an option that I still can use TWRP to restore it properly?
~If the above is not possible is there a manual way to read out the made backup file using a program like 'Ext2Explore'(This crashes though when I open the file)
Or did I just completely screw up by checking the MD5 verification?

Ohh right, sorry I completely read over your post my bad. But then again If I have to wipe the device wouldn't that totally remove the point of restoring the data partition ? or is the wipe command just for the system partition?

What I'm getting at, is don't restore the data partition. You can try, but I often read of lots of issues doing it.
Yes, I implied wipe the device clean. Flash stock. Start fresh.
Now if you had a titanium backup of user apps on your pc... I'd say you'd have a much easier time restoring that to the new phone.
Just my 2 cents of course.

I made a clean start yes. Unfortunately I don't have a titanium backup and I get that storing the data partition to a other device isn't a good idea. But well I never had the intention of making a back up and restoring it to another device but unfortunately my other phone got completely bricked. And yes in hindsight I should have made backups in multiple ways.
But like I said I don't really care about the system(including the apps and app settings) it is literally all about the actual data (pictures and stuff), that is also the reason why I asked if there is a way to manually read/open the back-up files.

The pictures are gone. A nandroid doesn't back those up or anything on the internal sdcard

Did you make an adb backup in the tool kit? That would have your pics. But a flashable nandroid you flash in recovery would not.

Would Nandroid Manager be what you're looking for? EDIT: as above, it won't find and restore any of your pictures/music, as a nandroid backup does not include any of these. There is a chance you find and restore your apps and settings if you so wish. I've used that app before.
Incidentally, I successfully transferred all of my data and ROM from one Nexus 5 to another (had to RMA)
The process I used is:
- Unlock bootloader, install custom recovery on new N5
- Nandroid backup on old N5
- Copy whole /sdcard partition from old to new N5. Basically, all files and folders on the 'root' of the drive when connected to PC. This included all photos, music and the nandroid backup itself.
- Restore nandroid backup on new N5 (only /system, /data and boot.img / kernel), as if you were restoring any nandroid backup really. Though do not restore efs partition as advised above (it wasn't backed up, but worth mentioning again anyway).
Took a while, but the ROM and settings were carried over successfully.

Nope, I did not. And the ignorant person that I am just assumed that the nandroid backup would back up everything since the toolkit says "Make full Backups"
So well I guess I just have to accept the fact that I lost those things

I am assuming that you used a tool like Android File Transfer.
So what I'm trying to do is the same thing, backup my entire old N5 32GB as I had also requested an RMA of the device. Is it accurate in stating that you want me to copy every folder that shows up on the AFT window (Note: I am using a MAC) and copy that onto a folder on my computer. Then copy over everything on the new device (bootloader unlocked, rooted, same TWRP version installed) and restore via the Nandroid backup from my old phone (which was also transferred as indicated above).

I didn't use AFT, just plugged straight into PC, sorry no experience with Mac
Basically both phones were connected, and I copied the whole "/sdcard" straight from one phone to another, without making an initial copy to the PC

[Q] Automatic backup 1:1 copy of device

Hi there,
I tried many different backup apps but I think that none of them actually satisfy my needs. I say "think" because until today I didn't have to restore my backup. Thus I don't know exactly what will be restored. I am seeking advice from experienced users on the following question:
Is there an app that provides an automatic, scheduled backup solution that creates a 1:1 copy of my phone which could identically be restored on a different device in case my old one breaks?
More specifically I am looking for:
simple interface. At best only one button to press and start the backup procedure
scheduled backups to run automatically daily
cloud backup other than gdrive or dropbox (no space left on these cloud services)
1:1 copy meaning backup of the ENTIRE device

Install Clockwork Mod recovery on your device and it will take the full working backup of your device. Boot into recovery and you can make backup of that exact date and condition of your phone there! It would come in handy incase you brick your device too.
