Android knows how to give credit in style!
**NOW GOT MARKET & GAPPS WORKING!**
This ROM will only work on ACER ASPIRE ONE NETBOOKS THAT CAME WITH ANDROID OUT OF THE BOX!
GingerAspire is a modified version of Insyde's Android 2.3.1 for Acer netbooks. Most of their netbooks will never upgrade Android OS versions, so I am porting from the files provided in the D257 to the rest of the range.
BIG THANKS TO TYNXPL FOR THE FILES FROM THE D257!
The features in the 'working section' should work, as long as you have a Acer Netbook that has the Insyde drivers.
Working:
Boots
Installs apps
WiFi
GPS
Google Apps
Live Wallpapers
Camera
Downloading files
Watching videos & listening to music - Some work, some need codecs that aren't compatibile with x86
Bluetooth
3G
(I don't have the model with Bluetooth and 3G, so if it works, please say below )
Doesn't work (yet):
OpenGL ES (No apps such as Google Music then)
I couldn't get apps2sd (or different partition) to work
Screenshots:
What 3rd party apps come with it?
XDA Free app
Dolphin Browser HD (replaces stock browser as it actually works)
Terminal Emulator
Droid Tips (the home screen tips widget)
CatLog (for reporting bugs to me)
GApps (maps, market, gmail etc.)
YouTube
Facebook (old one that works)
Twitter
Download & Install process in post 2

Well,
Gmail app force close
Facebook app either (after putting away your data)
Better Terminal Emulator FC too
At startup, it force close "google partner setup"
As expected, my USB Bluetooth dongle doesn't work (as in "stock" ROM)
And... Where is the link to go to back to windows ? (I found a way to get it back : Just create a link to "confirm reboot" app)
Other things are working well, good job and thanks for the time you already spent on this !

Sorry, I meant to post these things. To get the force close apps back, reinstall them, using root explorer, directly from /system/app Google Partner Setup is required to login, I guess we'll just have to put up with it. Windows link: I have no idea. Mine has gone to. This is the stock launcher, so ???

And BTW, I noticed I left my FB account on there, I have changed my password though

I tried to reinstall them but it didn't change anything.
I'll try to put the original rom files again to see if apps are working (don't know if it helps but in the logcat, it says there is an error with java for any of the non-working apps)
To go back to Windows, just put a link (on your home screen) through "activities" from laucherpro widget to "confirm reboot" in the apps list. ;-)

[GUIDE] Turn Your Kindle Fire Into Full Fledged Android Tablet!

Kindle Fire with Go LauncherEX!
Don't care for the Amazon Kindle Fire bookshelf style UI, and want to use your launcher of choice? Are you rooted yet? If you've answered YES to both these questions, freedom on your Fire is just a few simple steps away. Learn how to customize your Fire the way you'd like!
Here's a quick tutorial to open up a world of possibilities on your newly acquired Kindle Fire.
Prerequisites
Alternate Launcher APK (Am using Go Launcher EX in this example, YMMV on others)
Home Switcher APK - Your choice here...possible to switch back and forth without it.
A file manager App - ES File Explorer, Astro File Manager
Side Loading Apps activated on Kindle Fire
On the Kindle Fire Settings screen, go to “Device” and turn On “Allow Installation of Application From Unknown Sources”
I'm testing this with a rooted Fire, may be possible without root however.
How To Get It Done
1. Transfer your alternate launcher and Home Switcher .apks to your Kindle Fire via PC / Mac
2. Install both apps using a file manager
3. Press "Home" Button or Launch Home Switcher App
4. Select your alternate Launcher
5. Enjoy!
Your experience may vary, as to this point I've only confirmed Go Launcher Ex. LauncherPro seems to Force Close, upon selecting it as default launcher. Respond in comments with your findings!

Kindle Launcher comes up as an app in the app drawer when using Go Launcher. You can jump back and forth between to two if you set Go Launcher as the default app for the home button.

if your evo is rooted you can use root explorer to go to data-app- and "send" to either a dropbox or an email and then open them to install on your kindle fire
This appears to work with GoLauner on an unrooted Fire. I just did it and have not yet had a chance to play around with it to see all of what works and doesn't work. First thing I tried was Kindle Reader and it doesn't seem to want to start..not sure why.
-Eric
To answer the OPs question about doing this without root, it does seem to be possible to do this without rooting your kindle. I've been able to sideload several apps I grabbed from my evo (thanks wbales for the tip) on to my evo including adw launcher.
Launcher pro is the best.
fwiw, once you root, your ability to instant stream Amazon videos goes away. Hopefully a work around is on the near horizon.

I found a temporary solution here. I was able to get streaming to work again pretty easily: phandroid.com/2011/11/16/rooting-kindle-fire-breaks-amazon-video-and-how-to-make-it-work/
I also managed to get LauncherPro to work. I suspect the error is caused by permissions. Install LauncherPro from the Market and use Titanium Backup to convert it to a system app. Then it will work fine.
Can you please chck for free RAM on the kindle fire? Is this possible? thx

When you have done this on an un-rooted Fire is anyone else having issues getting the Kindle Reader app to start? I can't get mine to start at all unless I got back to the stock UI and then click on the book or magazine from the carousel. I prefer to have GoLauncher running so I can have my familiar UI as I hate the carousel, at least until some Dev comes up with a way to turn the carousel off anyways.

Found a "work around" but you lose all your magazines and any data stored on the device. I side loaded the Kindle Reader from my Evo onto the Fire after installing GoLauncher. It now allows me to open it up, but like I said you lose all your other data. Now I need to figure out how to uninstall that version of the reader to get back to the stock one.
Oh well was worth the shot.
-Eric
Went to Settings->Applications and was able to uninstall my version from the Evo and it returned all my magazines and books that I had on the device. Still having issues though with GoLauncher..
Easier solution is to just select the Amazon "Launcher" in your app drawer when you want to read

Yes I know but I was kind of hoping for a solution that would allow me not to have to go back to their UI. Will just have to wait for now.

[MOD] Back to black, inverted apps

did you delete the previous one? what I usually do is change the one in the system already is add an .bak at the end of .apk (vending.apk.bak) as to keep it there for a back up and make sure when you move over the other one make sure to correct permissions. Not sure if you tried that yet but if not, give it a go and it should do the trick.
Also when you move it over, do you have system as rewritable? (obviously you need to be rooted to so ) if you are make sure that you gave permission on the file explorer that your using. If all that fails, I can make one for you if you like.
Z
I saved original apk on my SD-card and replaced it in /system/app with the black themed one with root explorer and rebootet and fixed permissions, but always the original market opens again, though there is no apk in /system/app. cant explain that

what you do, is go in to the app ( as if you were going to uninstall it ) and then stop , clear cache, clear data, swap out the apk and reboot in recovery wipe/ clear delvic/cache and that should do the trick . happened to me once before and got it to work that way.
Z
I normally replace the apk files in the ROM prior to flash.
Had no problem with Gmail, Drive, Youtube. But try as I can, just cannot get "Talk" to work.
Since I replace apks before flashing ROMS, I cannot use the one from Jules as that require a flash and a flash of "Part 2" as well. It does work that way, but not if I replace the original talk.apk with the one from his 1st zip file or 2nd.
The one by bradman117, just refuse to work for me ... whatever way I try, including flashing it separately.
Anyone know of any other "Talk" versions available that has full functionality?
Thanks

Because it was updated before you replaced it, so there's an apk (it might be called Phonesky, or Play depending) in data/app of the white market which overrides the one in system/app. You need to remove that one as well for the inverted app to show up.

Ive seen a couple of ICS based , inverted or what you ever wish to call it but it does break mms. Other then that, it looks great! Trust me, your not the only one searching for this, I've been at it for 4 weeks and have yet to find one that does not make phone loop ( on boot ) or one that will actually send mms along w/ regular text. Please if anybody has any info, please chime in , it would be greatly appreciated!!

You want this on a phone? Here we go:
You'll need:
A rooted phone with ParanoidAndroid including per-app DPI
The apk from post 1
Method 1: Using ParanoidAndroid settings
1.) Install the apk as normal
2.) Go to your device's settings > ParanoidAndroid settings (Location and name differs per rom)
3.) Select apps > Tapatalk HD Beta
4.) Select the DPI slider to anything below 200
5.) Tap apply
Done, it will fit now. If you want the text bigger, go to Tapatalk's settings and set the font size from there
Method 2: Using the properties.conf file
Note: You still need to be running ParanoidAndroid to do this
1.) Open a root file manager, such as Solid Explorer
2.) Navigate to /system/etc/paranoid
3.) Open the properties.conf file to edit (Solid explorer has the built in text editor to do this)
4.) Add this line to the end:
Code:
com.quoord.tapatalkHDBeta.dpi=160
(Change the 160 to what fits you best between it and 200)
5.) Save the file
6.) Force close and re-open Tapatalk HD Beta
Done, it will fit now. If you want the text bigger, go to Tapatalk's settings and set the font size from there
Thanks, this is very nice. Running on ParanoidAndroid

Been using this on my Nexus 7 for a couple days and love it. Had to try it on the nexus 4. Thanks OP for sharing. Can't wait until its optimized for phones. I bought tapatalk and will certainly but this, but I hope they let current tapatalk users upgrade to this one.

I really am liking this app and it's all working great but with a couple of alterations, it would be much better.
1. I don't like how there's no way to get to your own profile, except for finding one of your previous posts and clicking your avatar from there.
2. Using this brings un-needed options on your profile with no way to get rid of them. They also show on xda app aswell. See picture below.
3. I don't like how I can't stop the stickied threads from showing. I understand that it's there so new users will definitely see them, but I don't need to be force fed them because if I want to view them, I'll do so anyway.
Still working great and looking great though

ATTACHED FILES
com.quoord.tapatalkHDBeta-1.apk - [Click for QR Code] (2.72 MB, 349 views)
so this file works perfectly fine on the stock nexus 4 as is?
I've been using this for a couple of days now and like it a lot better than the non-tablet version. The only thing I don't like is if you open a notification and then click on the back button in the top left it closes the app instead of bringing you back to your list of forums. That happened in the non-tablet version as well.

Great job. I like it!

Runs great on my tablet and I even played with it on my phone.
170dpi
Search is broken and causes fc's at random times. Maybe its due to it being on the phone. I have yet to test on the tablet.
Love the reply screen. Much better.
Can anyone upload the latest build, 0.10.1 according to Play Store, thanks.
It works on the GS2, I'll try on a SmartPad 7"

Latest version here
I'm sure Quinny will add it to the OP once he's online anyway.

Good start...but far from original and constant redraws and blank white screens. Too bad because for some reason I like this better than the other 3d launchers...
After many hour of work finaly got it working on my phone.
No 3d working yet.

Sorry about that. I un-published the app for several hours, because the previous version was unstable in some phones, but know i uploaded a new version, i hope you try it.
So I tried it. Took about 1 minute to load at first. Got about 3 force closes between, selected wait. Finally it loaded, screen transitions were all bugged with black screen between transitions. Great idea but it's terribly buggy all in all. Can we supply you some logs or such? Device used is an s3 i9305 with cm10.1 on it. Other launchers work perfect (nova, next, etc)
Remember when you test new app it can be painful.
I do believe this will be worth the wait.

Please send me the logs and will try to fix all the bugs. The difference between my launcher and the other launchers its that they are a group of developers and im just one. But thanks for your comment.

Keep in mind you should remove any task manager their interfear with w3d launcher.
I have been using this launcher for a day with only minor issues and dev is working on them.
