One question, how to I change the permission on folders and files so I can delete the .Apk which are read only -r-?
If you're viewing the file in a program like Root Explorer, click on the 'Mount R/W' button at the top to allow you access to do that.

Hey all,
I recently rooted my Droid Incredible using unrevoked and have been searching for help on how to remove the preinstalled apps (Like Amazon mp3). I have only found old posts that don't seem to work or other sites that are specific to a different phone.
I would just like to know how I can uninstall them from my rooted phone. I have tried installing a terminal emulator and typing rm -r amazonmp3.apk but it says it is read-only...
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If your phone is fully rooted, download Root Explorer from the Market, navigate to the /system/app/ folder and delete the apps you do not want.
Important: As you are navigating the files on your phone with Root Explorer you'll see a button in the upper right hand corner that says "mount r/w" which means mount read/write. You''ll need to press this before you try and delete the apps otherwise it will spit back an error that says "Read only file system."
Once you are done, simply reboot the phone and you should be good to go. Additionally, the phone automatically remounts as read-only upon rebooting so, if you want to delete more apps you'll have to press the button again.
Is Root Explorer the only app that does that? For example I recently downloaded Astro and it doesn't seem to work, will purchasing Root Explorer be different than Astro?
I guess I'm just wondering before buying if it is actually going to it differently than Astro (considering Astro did not work).

Can anyone point me in the right direction.
I am looking for the default Inspire 4G at&t boot animation. Would like to put that on my Inspire.
I am currently running CM7 Gingerbread and I'm just not fond of that boot animation.

I have actually downloaded yours and tried to flash it in CWM. It didn't work. Maybe because I'm on Gingerbread. Any suggestions?
It will not flash through CWM. You need to use a program such as Root Explorer to copy and paste it into the default location which is usually System/Customize/Resource.

I found big lou's guide and it worked.
Just used the command: adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
You can change the bootanimation anytime you like. First, the file has to actually *be* a bootanimation. All you do is place the bootanimation.zip - it must read EXACTLY that way, bootanimation.zip - onto the root of your SD Card. That means, it shouldn't be in a folder or anything. Next using Root Explorer (make sure you have read/write ability (there's a button at the top of the display, when you first open Root Explorer which reads R/O. Push it once, and it changes to R/W, meaning that you have Read/Write permissions). Next go to the SD Card, find the bootanimation.zip that you placed there earlier and long-press on it. This brings up a menu with several choices, I always choose Copy. That copies the bootanimation, and you then back up one level to the first screen you saw, when you chose R/W. Scroll down a little until you find "data", and click on it to open it. Scroll down again until you come to a file called "local", and open it. There should be two or three things in view (a largely empty folder) and that is the place that you push the button saying "Paste". Once it pastes the bootanimation there, back out of Root Explorer, reboot your phone and you should now have your new bootanimation displaying.

Hi guys, I'm trying to follow the guides to prevent my wallpaper from changing that need to navigate to /data/data/com.android.settings/files by ES File Explorer or Root Explorer.
However, I couldn't find anything from /data/
Mine is 6.2.1, Burritos rooted.

I can't select ROOT Explorer with ES File Explorer
Hmmmm........got nothin'....
Are you sure you are looking in /data and not /sdcard/data?
What are you using Root Explorer or ES File Explorer?
If you're not fully rooted, even if you temp root with burrito root and set system to r/w, /data will show as empty unless your file explorer had been granted su permissions (which you'll need full root and super user app for). Found that out the hard way today myself.

I had the same problem when I rooted the first time. I was following SuperOneClick instructions until I read it wasn't working with the latest stock update. Mid-root process, I switched to Burrito Root and completed the process. When I went to make mods in /data/data/... and saw nothing, I did a complete system restore and re-rooted with Burrito Root from the beginning. Everything's been fine since, including /data/data/.
After reading the post above, I guess my issue was either a botched root or something awry with my su install.

i noticed that there are 2 types of file explorer, the system file explorer that allows you browse around the /system/ directories and the media file explorer such as andro file explorer
could anyone please advise me any file explorer that allows me to access both /sdcard/ and /system/ directories please?
i stumbled upon this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=716309 that recommends root explorer, but it doesnt allow me to open /sdcard/ directories

I use ES File Explorer and Root Explorer. Both give you full access to your phones file system, including /system and /sdcard.

They do, es file explorer is free, and allows you to to lan shares from pc. Just have to enable root options in settings. I have both, but I currently use es file since I can access my pc from it.

I have a rooted HTC One X ATT version, running on non ATT network (brought it to asia)
it doesnt allow me to tether out of a box nor play downloaded glumobile games.
i've browsed xdaforum and found out there are several files in root directory that need to be replaced to fix this.
so i need to access /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
(which root explorer allows me to access, but doesnt allow me to access the sdcard directory)
whereas ES only allows me to access /data/data/
did i do something wrong with the ES?

I don't get why you think you can't access your /sdcard with Root Explorer, you can access EVERYTHING with it.
And with ES you have to go into the settings an enable the root explorer to be able to access everything.

Thanks, it works! now i can access the directory path.
one last question, whenever i tried to edit /system/build.prop
it doesnt allow me to save it after editing, or replace the file with a new one.
i'm referring to this xda article which i cant reply since i'm a noob with less than 10 posts

You have to mount the file system as read/write otherwise you can't edit anything in /system. Navigate to /system then hit menu >settings, then scroll down all the way to the root settings section and check the circle next to Mount File System. You will be able to edit the build.prop after doing that.
As far as Root Explorer FC'ing on you, I dunno man I've never had it crash on me once in the 3 years I've been using it. Try deleting it and re-installing it.

There is a way to find the .apk of apps downloaded from playstore.ull need root and root browser, we will use here esfile explorer. open esfile explorer and press top left-->tools enable root explorer and show hidden files, then go to local-->device now go to file data-->app and thats it.
