Stuck in Download Mode. Root Failed. Now Working on Stock Kernel. Back to normal! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Mission Accomplished!
Thanks to all in this thread.
Hi,
I am a idiot...
I have search all over this site and can not find a solution.
I tried rooting my Samsung Galaxy s2 Skyrocket
I used this link... http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/#comment-496
After Oden Failed I was stuck in Download Mode.
After a bit it went to " Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue. Please Select Recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Kies nor Oden recognize the phone anymore...
I came to realize I have a SGH-I727 ERRRR
Anyways I am stuck at this
"ODEN MODE
Product name: SGH-I727
Custom Binary Download: NO
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue. Please Select Recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Is there anyway to get back to factory or root from here a proper way?

Congrats as you are the first victim.
Just wanted to say Congrats you are the first victim of the i777/i727 confusion.
My suggestion is to follow exactly what it tells you to do.
Download Kies 2.0
And hopefully you can recover
OR
Maybe you can just power off and power on the device and see if it will boot maybe Odin never got a chance to write anything.

Thanks
Well
I managed to Find different Kernal to use on Oden
Though its the Telus Kernal
I Need to get the I727 Factory Kernal....
so thats my issue Now ...

I can post a drop box link to the stock boot.img if you need it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App

YAY
That would seriously be awesome if you could
Its in a .TAR file correct?
and id use Oden 1.85 to use it?

I unfortunately could use that link as well, however not for quite the same reason.

Sorry but will just be the actual boot.img
Not exactly sure how to make a ODIN tar but can attempt that real quick as well and post on here?

Very sorry for the failure man. I have my skyrocket now so will be able to figure out what went wrong shortly.
Did you right-click Odin and run as administrator? Could be the culprit. Also I have double checked over the files, pulled kernel from my phone and compared to kernel used in my Odin and they are identical.... Reran the steps to create the Odin tar and file size matches the one already created ???? Wtf!!
Now i'm wondering if there is a specific version of Odin to be used with our phones because besides that i'm stumped at the moment. Any input?

damn tough luck... but i guess you should have read more clearly that the post was for the I777 lol...hope you can get ur phone up and working...i wonder if theres a way you could flash the kernel via ADB, i know on MOTO you can access ADB before booting Android..Not sure if Samsung has a mode like that.

I personally rooted my SR long before the forum was established... I was probably the first one that did it, and the first to post my results in the I777 sections.
But unlike most people.. I DO READ and study all the possible facts...
I mean it sucks that he is stuck... but hey.. **** happens
As for helping we can only do so much as of what we have. Without a source code or/and a full original dump of the ROM.. it's really hard to "fix" a problem.

nice, love that app! didnt try that yet, figured it wouldnt work. thanks there is someone who posted in the captivate section after doing somethin stupid that can use this. is this .zip signed? or does 3e recovery need to be modded?
also i .tar'd it for odin use but having trouble attaching it.
edit: i got it attached but i wont flash it till there is a good stock rom for backup. anyone that flahes this please report the results it is as of now untested.
I tried moving the contents into a .tar and flashing in Odin as well as moving just the zImage into a .tar and flashing... Neither works to save me.
I feel like this is a brick that just doesn't want to go away!

what happened?
There were two, actually. One of them returned their phone, and I PMed the other.
I've never used SGS Kernel Flasher, all it says in the app is:
"Choose Kernel"
"Flash Kernel"
and "Reboot after Flash"
I'm guessing it doesn't need any mod, but won't know until we try. I'm not really eager to try until I have to
Have you tried just:
1. renaming the zip to update.zip
2. putting in /sdcard
3. booting into recovery
4. reinstall...
Then again if you can't get into your phone, how can you get it into /sdcard...
Anyone have any ideas?
When I try with all contents, I get:

However, when I try flashing the .tar with the Captivate kernel I stupidly tried out, it flashes in seconds, no problem. Only thing is, it hangs on the boot screen.
i bricked mine too, played dumb. got a new one. too bad there was no rom dump available, well i found a system dump. it could be made into a factoryfs.rfs if needed, ill post that link in a new thread. but there were no csc or data or dbdata. it may be enough to build a rom from though. im not sure how to dump the other parts you would need.
warning do not try the "dump" feature in odin. it doesnt work. it may result in a soft brick but untill there is a flashable rom that's as good as a hard brick.
Please post, and if you have any info on how to get it into the right form, I can dump everything from my phone.

it is kinda speculative as ive never tried it. but rfs is similar to fat32, magic iso can manipulate the images. as far as i can tell factoryfs.rfs is the system partition. im not a dev and am kinda clueless on the other stuff. i know there are scripts in the csc stuff on the captivate files. im not sure what to do about that other than mimic the captivate stuff and hope for the best.
Recovery is Vol-Up + Vol-Down + Power.

I'm not sure what good a pit's going to do if we don't know the way anything's partitioned and I never repartitioned to begin with. I'll look into it, however.
Yeah, I'm not sure that will work. I am a dev, just not an android dev. This thing will ultimately need a lag fix since its using RFS.
The problem is that what you see is incomplete. There are image files which are mounted during startup that we lose access too once the system is fully booted. Its those files we need to pull. Once we have those, we have everything we need for full blown development.
I started down this path with the Captivate but got side-tracked by life. Hopefully, I'll have some more time so I can experiment more here.
On a side note, I started doing a lag fix for this before I got distracted with the rom issues.

Yeah, noticed that. I was trying to get cwm on it instead (in hindsight, bad idea due to no roms) and read up that flashing a kernel with it on it, in my case speedmod, would change that.
Obviously not!

[ROM][UCKD5] Samsung Infuse 4G Stock rooted

Well, this is my first pass at this. I believe this is a valid Odin flashable tar. (First time making one)
Let me know if it works.
Disclaimer:
This ROM is untested and should be considered unsafe until someone is able to flash via one of the two methods below. CWM is not yet available. I know that a couple of people have soft bricked their phones which is why I'm making this available to try out. If you don't heed this warning, be prepared to innocently disavow any knowledge of why you are now holding a paperweight as you try to exchange your bricked device...
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Features:
-Based on the stock UCKD5 system dump obtained from my Infuse
-Rooted
-Busybox
Instructions:
Odin
This should be an Odin flashable file. Just unzip and grab the tar.
If you don't know how to use Odin, search through the forums, there is more than enough info out there.
OR
Heimdall
unzip SGHI997_UCKD5_rooted.zip
tar xvf SGHI997_UCKD5_rooted.tar
heimdall flash --kernel zImage --factoryfs factoryfs.rfs --modem modem.bin --cache cache.rfs --dbdata dbdata.rfs --param param.lfs
Download:
SGHI997_UCKD5_rooted.zip
Sbl.bin, boot.bin, pit.pit are available in additional.zip
efs.rfs in efs.zip

Not sure if this is still just me or if it's a problem somewhere else.
Edit-It begins loading the cache (I see green!!) and then fails.
I have the following files as well, but they didn't seem to be necessary for Odin or Heimdall...
However, if someone wants them, I can post.
The files are:
Sbl.bin
boot.bin
pit.pit
Maybe try posting up the .pit?
The additional files are attached to the first post.
im gonna try da_dr8's method to change the startup image in param.ifs
wish i had more confidence that the everything works before hand though
So I put the pit file in and the PDA file and it failed after cache, so now I'm stuck at pc2computer screen. No biggie if a brick, I will just return it. but i've tried a jig with no success(assumed it'd work the same as captivate), and random combos of the 3 button combo. Nothing to get back to download mode yet.
Is this still unproven?

Ok last edit I swear.
Maybe you should first try to ODIN the stock kernel instead of a system dump.

that's good to hear. i wonder what the issue is. there may need to be a version designed for the infuse. i heard odin is built with the phone and that you should only use on version on each phone. adam outler said use v1.7 on the captivate even though everything from v1.0 to v1.82 has worked on my captivate.
yea, we're still troubleshooting the vibrates. But, it looks like my dbdata partition that i posted in that Odin .tar was bad first of all. second of all, heimdall appears a little more forgiving than Odin. we'll have to figure out how to get the Odin package working once the vibrate piece is figured out and remedied.

The kernel is fine in the Odin flash. The problem appears to be dbdata or another .rfs parition. Troubleshooting it so it works with heimdall flawlessly first. then moving to Odin.

phone has no data and will not complete an odin flash

So basicallly yesterday i tried rooting my sgs4g. I read the bible and the noob flash guide but some how i still messed up. Using super one click i was able to root the phone without any problems. I hooked the phone up to odin 1.7 and tried flashing one of the stock roms recommended in the noob guide to flashing but odin would not finish the flashing sequence and only states that the complete write operation failed. I was freaking out after about four hours and was literally trying tons of .tar files ive tried two from whitehawx off here the two from the noob guide aand no dice i dont know. i know the phone is in download mode i got that down yesterday lol but i still can not complete the flash. I have both 32 and 64 bit drivers installed on my computer but i cannot complete any type of flash. I can turn the phone on but it has no data and vibrates almost every ten seconds. It does say its still on 2.21 but baseband is unknown and kernal is stock i believe. i can pull the number when i get home. I am lost at this point im just tryilng to get back to stock or anything that makes the phone usable again. thanks in advance to any one who helps i wil donate...lol

Start with the basics - a factory data reset. See if that helps.
Also, you should not have/need both 32-bit & 64-bit drivers on your PC. That potentially is a conflict within itself. What operating system are you on? If it's 32-bit, only have those drivers. If it's 64-bit, only use those. I'd uninstall them both and then reinstall a clean set based on your OS.
Look for ODIN 1.85. It's out here somewhere. I've had more luck with it than 1.7.
Let me know how things go with this. If you're not working after trying to go this route let us know and we'll push forward.

It does say its still on 2.21 but baseband is unknown and kernal is stock i believe. i can pull the number when i get home. I am lost at this point im just tryilng to get back to stock or anything that makes the phone usable again. thanks in advance to any one who helps i wil donate...lol

Do you have multiple USB ports on your computer? Make sure you are plugged into one that goes directly to the CPU motherboard - one on the back. I have had issues trying to flash through USB ports that are on the front of a computer. Odin will recognize your phone, but it will freeze during flash. Just something to check.
I'm on windows 7. I have tried every usb on the laptop lol i've had a long time to try it out. So since I'm on windows 7 I should delete the 32 bit right? Thank both of you guys I'm on my way as we speak to fire up the laptop. I'll delete the drivers and search for the newer version of odin. Thank you guys again

Not necessarily. Win7 can be either 32 or 64-bit. If you're not sure, right-click on your Computer/My Computer icon, and go to Properties. I believe it tells you there. I don't have a Win7 PC in front of me so I can't be 100%.
ok i am on 64bit windows.i deleted everything i downloaded yesterday so im starting from complete scratch i also downloaded odin 1.85. I am going to try to flash the .tar that is listed in the noob guide to oden from krylon 360 [ROM-ODIN]T959VUVKB5.

I haven't looked at the KB5 ROM. Does it come with multiple files (pit, pda, csc, phone)? If so, all you should have to do is put the files in the right slots in ODIN, don't mess with the check boxes, and flash it.

What files are you using and where are you putting them?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I've never used KB5 before. What if you were to try something a bit more updated?
If you want to stay Froyo you can grab the stock KD1 from:
http://hotfile.com/dl/120929051/0ea3e13/T959VUVKD1.rar.html
IF you want to go Gingerbread, you can grab chadster's KG4 from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413
Like Exodian alluded to, you have to make sure you have the files in the right places. Let us know what you're doing. If you can snag a screen shot of ODIN and post it, that might help too.
T959VKB5-Custom (1) in the pda file
k i am downloading both
Yeah kg4 is better than froyo. Well, wifi excluded. Just make sure the files are in the correct spot.

Cool. That was the first Gingerbread leak that came with the right boot loaders. What you're going to want to do is:
- Put CODE_T959VUVKG4_CL1385158_REV00_user_low_noship.tar.md5 into PDA
- Put hawk_Sidekick_VibrantPlus_831.pit into PIT
- Put SGH-T959V-CSC-TMB-VIBRANTP.tar.md5 into CSC
- Put T959VUVKG4-Phone-CL1037720.tar.md5 into Phone
Don't mess with any of the check boxes, and flash.
Let us know how it goes.
i will, sorry for the delay multiupload is taking forever today. thank you guys i should be able to try this in about 11 min
No rush on our part, man. Just hope you get it working.

I bricked my phone (details inside post)

Hi guys I just bricked my phone. It is the vzw galaxy s 3 and I had it rooted using this method --> www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=TnOthODuAvM&list=UUzoKZegNgnnYJ3ex4uatJCw&index=0&feature=plcp
I was trying to un-root it using this method --> www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=4gViuW3xUts&feature=plcp
but it failed writing and now my phone says firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
I am trying to be as specific as i can as defined by this video --> www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=_UhIfFo8GFE&feature=plcp
Please help me out asap. The reason I am trying to restore it to stock is because i am going to Verizon tomorrow and i am getting it replaced cause my screen cracked. I really messed up didn't I?
After it said it failed to flash in Odin3 I unplugged the phone and pulled the battery but that made it do what it is i think. anybody who can help me?
also I can get into download mode I think I just re installed the stock.vzw_root66 file that i used to root the phone leading to its overwrite making it fail I am not sure how to fix this please help
PS: yes i pushed the power button and i have not tryed to do anything with it yet because i am scared to make it worse. and yes it is charged lol
please help me lol
here is a little update: gyazo [dot] com/3e01595d8a405203c9355996abea130c
why did you use that method when i have a full tutorial in the dev section...stick to xda for your modding needs! also try section 6 of my guide. if that dont recover your device then try the alternate method linked at the bottom of that section.
Thank you very much sir I am trying your methods now but the kernel is taking forever to download considering it is a 1.2 gig file lol. I will post an update after I am done.
I was folliwing your guide and I only got to step 6 then this happened:

This has happened to me before...if this was the stock rooted ROM I would try the stock Un-rooted ROM. I think the rooted one gave me that same issue on multiple flashes and the stock one worked fine.

Rooted, bricked, Trying to Flash back to Stock but Odin keeps failing, details inside

He howdy ho,
Like it says in the title, I rooted my phone (using galaxys7root.com tutorial) a while back with the intent to get access to Hosts so I could keep myself off reddit at least on mobile. Everything was working fine for a couple weeks, but then this morning a lot of my apps kept crashing (not even while they were being used, just in the background. Repeat offenders were google maps, facebook and google play services). Thinking all I needed was a reboot, I restarted my phone and now its stuck in a boot loop. No big deal, I could just reflash to stock with Odin and be done with it.
Downloaded Odin 3.12.3 and grabbed the T-Mobile stock firmware from galaxys7root.com and started the process in Odin. Except it keeps failing and I don't know why. Here's what odin is saying:
<ID:0/005> Odin engine v(ID:3.1203)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/005> Initialzation..

<ID:0/005> FAIL! (Auth)
<ID:0/005>
<ID:0/005> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
screenshot --> i.imgur.com/HnVy5YX.png
Information on phone screen reads:
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot]Fused 3 > Binary 2
[1]eMMC write fail: aboot
EDIT: Tried re-doing it after a fail in a different USB port, gets past initialization, but now its hung up on "SET PARTITON"
Odin log now looks like this:
<ID:0/008> Removed!!
<ID:0/009> Added!!
<ID:0/009> Odin engine v(ID:3.1203)..
<ID:0/009> File analysis..

Hi, it's been a while since I have done rooting on galaxy's. But, I'm still using odin. I'm not sure about that galaxys7root.com or how reliable is, but I suggest you visit sammobile.com and get the firmware that's right for your phone, check for phone model or carrier and also the firmware version that matches the one that was on your phone when rooted. Get Odin from them too and follow the instructions on how to flash at the bottom on the download page.

Thanks, I didn't know about Sammobile, I'm downloading everything from there right now, will update when I have tried it out (I'm using a free account so the download speed is abhorrent). Thanks for the reply!
Also what version of Odin are you using? Theres a special version that i was told to be used for the galaxy s7 - Odin3 v3.12 by PrinceComsy. Make sure its the PrinceComsy version.
Let us know if you need any more additional help!
It's working now, I used Odin 3.11 I got from SamMobile. No longer bricked and now its got stock firmware on it. Awesome, thanks guys!
Hey I badly need to know which firmware you used? SamMobile only has it for the sm-935f? I need it for the sm-930t, the stock firmware. I'm bricked too.

How can I give you 1000 thanks. I searched the better part of the weekend and Friday looking for this correct compilation of firmware. Dude, in all sincerity, you just saved me from having to claim insurance and get a different one, which isn't cheap. Took 2 hours to download but still, you are the man in my book today my friend. Thank you.
