APN Settings? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I got a Skyrocket this morning, however I did not opt for a new sim because I am in a non-LTE area. But I later realized that although I can make calls, I cannot receive calls, texting does work but data does not and I have no MMS. I set up a new APN using the same settings I had used on my Infuse 4G and now everything works except for MMS. Although I changed the apn I was not able to delete the stock apn that didn't work. Any ideas?
Here are the apn settings I used: wap.cingular, username: [email protected], password: CINGULAR1, MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com, MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32, APN type: internet + MMS.

Oh that is very cool to hear, I may end up having to do that. I kept my sim however because it is a microsim and I like to switch back and forth between my Androids and an iPhone using an adapter.

Oh my bad, I didn't see that you're in a non-LTE area. Did you try the "phone" APN used for HSPA+ connections?
Also, APN should not have any effect on your ability to make or receive calls

You're right, the inability to receive calls was just a fluke. "Phone" worked for data but not MMS.
These settings made everything work in case anyone else needs them:

I guess this means that my data speeds are not going to be as high as they could be, but this does enable me to keep my microsim and switch back and forth with an iPhone.

I guess not, I will call now and see if I can get that switched over. I would have thought they would have done that back when I bought the Infuse 4G, but apparently although the signal said 4G, I wasn't getting the speed.

I didnt get a new sim and am on stock apn settings with no issues. I asked about a new sim and they had no idea what i was talking about.

It depends when you last had to get a new SIM. The SIMs for LTE are different than UMTS. The PTA APN works just fine on all networks (E, 3G, H+ and LTE).

Just got off the phone and was told that I can't change my 3G Unlimited plan to a 4G one without them sending me a 4G Sim and then activating it and that they don't have a 4G microsim. Maybe I can do this to switch the plan and then ask for them to send me another microsim.

wont work. there is a micro SIM for LTE (you can probably guess how I know that) but I am guessing the adapter will not pass LTE but since the iphone is not LTE that may not matter.
BTW, you will not loos your unlimited data. They just add it to a unlimited LTE data plan. You can confirm this after the change on myatt.

Sorry, I guess I'm being a little slow tonight, but I don't quite understand what you are saying. Let me rephrase my question.
When using the "phone" apn, MMS does not work for me. I would like to be able to use the "phone" apn to get HSPA+ speeds and have MMS working. Currently I am having to use the "wap.cingular" apn so that my MMS will work.
I am currently using a 1 year old microsim that came in the iPhone 4. I have the unlimited data for iPhone.
What data plan should I be on so that I can use the "phone" apn with working MMS?
Also, can this data plan work with a microsim so that I can have HSPA+ speeds when using my Galaxy but also have the ability to use the iPhone 4 on some days?

The reason the default settings don't work is because you NEED to have a LTE data plan on your account. Trust me I know what I am talking about ;-). Once you have that provisioned on your account the default APN settings will work just fine.

For phone APN, set it to Internet only.
Then, set up another APN with the wap.cingular APN and set that to MMS only

MicroSIM is only for iPhone 4/4s. Every other device uses a regular sized SIM. You'd have to keep going back and getting a new SIM everytime you'd like to use each phone.
I work for AT&T, I do it all the time, haha.

Couldn't you just trim a LTE sim card to the micro-sim size? xD

Can't connect to network?

I just bought an Inspire and I can't connect to Att network. It shows the H+ and shows that Att is my Newtork Operator but it wont let change any of the settings or scan for other networks. I had a HD2 that was unlocked and work like a charm on the network but now it won't let me play with the settings. Do you think that I have an old data plan back in 2005 that was unlimited to my Sony Erricison?
Your data plan has to be 4g otherwise it won't connect to the data. You can keep unlimited also.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
The H+ usually means that you are connected to the data network. Are you sure it isn't a H with a check mark? Which means that you aren't connected to the network. To use the default APN settings you have to be on a "4G" plan, like the previous poster said. You can always add an APN to the list and use it as well. I had this issue when I first got my Inspire. Try these settings.

Good find. Just pulled up Justin.tv and loaded just like it should. Interesting...
I"m still stuck with mobile only on most sites. Cnn loads full page, but engadget and most others forces mobile.
However justin.tv loads full and normal.
As is mine. After the customer service/in store crap I had to deal with yesterday for 4 hours regarding this "data lag" problem (as they so called it), this better last a good long time.
Same here juat tested it justin.tv worked and loaded no lag as did cnn.com thankfully i just got the skyrocket yesterday but the browser not.loading alot of pages was irritating and made the phone useless to me without wifi. Glad its working now westminster md

Figures, that's my luck.
I was bothered by the APN issues and ended up returning my SR and going back to the GS2 cause I figured it would take AT&T forever to fix the problem.
Now they go ahead and fix it that fast.
Major bummer.
Had to modify APN settings in Minneapolis/St. Paul
I'm a NOOB to Android, but not smartphones. I wanted to post this reply, because I found most of the information on XDA, but not all in one place. Hopefully this saves others much of the time that I've spent on it.
Issue: My brand new Skyrocket would not connect to AT&T data network from my home when it was sitting right next to my wife's Galaxy S2 that was connected to AT&T data network. NOTE: Minneapolis/St. Paul is non-LTE.
Troubleshooting:
1. Swapped sims -- Galaxy S2 still works; Skyrocket still doesn't work.
2. Factory reset Skyrocket (several times) -- Skyrocket still doesn't work.
3. Got online with AT&T support. Checked some settnigs. Factory reset. -- Skyrocket still doesn't work.
4. Per AT&T support, went back to AT&T store to exchange phone. At the store, AT&T person looked at my phone and turned off the WiFi that had automatically (and correctly) connected to their AT&T hotspot. Voila Skyrocket connected to 4G. Good news, but somewhat distrubing. So, I decided to keep it and work with it some more.
5. Back at home, 4G still working....until I turned on WiFi (which automatically turns off AT&T data network). BAM!! AT&T data network would not come on again, when I turned off WiFi.
6. Next morning a Google search brought me to posts on XDA where others were having issues with the AT&T data network and and MMS.
Root cause:
-APNs configured in my Galaxy S2 were **different** than the APN configured in my Skyrocket -- very much like the posts on XDA.
-AT&T said the PTA network is brand new and they're still working out the kinks." from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342159
-Also pulled some data from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1337171.html
Solution:
Short version -- added 3 APNs and selected one of them.
Long version -- New APN Configuration that is working on my Skyrocket

Can anyone put the PTA working apn its not working for me.
Running BeastMOD. try to set default but got 3g speed with it.
@saildiverdog
I had those apns listed here before from my own trial and errors in the OP of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342159 . But since then took them down after the PTA network started working for a lot of us. And the wap.Cingular/PTA or wap.cingular/phone combo stopped working. The strange part was that the phone combo worked for me and my wife's worked with the PTA combo. Since the original post of this thread, they stopped working and the PTA was up and running.
For the rest/future readers, what's your location where the default apn is not working for you?
Woke up today with no data. Rebuilding the APN fixed the issue. I live near nyc so my guess is lte rollout confused some devices

AT&T versus T-Mobile corresponds to which SIM you picked when you purchased the service. If you selected the AT&T SIM, then use the AT&T APN, etc.

If you ask a question, it helps to speak in specifics. The guy who responded after you has the same problem, can't tell what APN he is talking about.
I personally would try the APN that came from the source (Straight Talk) first. But really, in the time you asked the question and waited for responses, you could have easily tried both (and then some) and see if they worked.
Sorry for being vague. I'm at work and trying to type fast. My problem is I get throttled often. My download speed is seriously 200k/ sec. I'm trying to find a better APN that maybe will help my situation. I have had this SIM card from ST for atleast a year. It is in my HTC One X. I cut the card down to fit. And don't get me wrong, sometimes i have decent speed. But it's never true 4g speed

ATT/Straight Talk APN settings

Just got my Nexus 5.
I took my ST SIM from my Nexus 4 and popped it into the new phone. Phone service works, no data service. I inputed my old N4 APN settings, and got data, but at the HSPA+ speeds. I tried setting the APN setting to " tfdata" as suggested elsewhere for LTE service, but lost all data.
Can someone please share their ATT ST APN settings? Or do I need a new SIM card?
Thanks.
From what I have heard... 2 possibilities. If you were using att.mvno, you need a new sim card. If you had a tfdata apn sim card, you can spend hours on the phone with straight talk tech support, and eventually you will find someone who knows how to enable lte on your tfdata sim, or you can order a new sim for $7 that will automatically be lte

Thanks.

Well, I went ahead and got a new SIM card from ST, and the settings now work perfectly.
My OP question was do I need a new SIM card. Yes I do.
Fixed itself!
Good day
I authorized a NEXUS 5 Sunday, ATT Micro Sim from Straight Talk
I used the APN settings from the website, last Sunday without any luck receiving MMS messages
I tried every setting on XDA I could find without any receive MMS success
I ordered a new Sim hoping to eliminate or correct my receive issuse, it will arrive tomorrow
Last night I received a confirmation from Straight Talk thanking me for my Auto Refill Signup
MMS receive started working right after that, go figure.:highfive:
Guess I didn't need a new Sim after all
I am on the Straight Talk APN Settings, nothing different.

[Q] MMS issues?

Hey all, Moto G US version owner here, and having trouble getting MMS working on at&t. I spent some time on the phone with them earlier and was more or less told that the phone wouldn't work right on network, or something to that effect. This was frustrating since everything else worked fine, and it is supposedly tailored for US networks after all. So I tried several different APN settings from online but to no avail. I even copied over the APN settings from my unlocked GS3 (which has no problems at all on at&t's network) and it still wouldn't work. I've contacted Moto's customer service as well and they've given me the number for Level 2 support, will be speaking to them soon.
I'm at a loss here.. yes, it is a new device and all, but is anybody else having this problem?
Try Handcent

I was able to sent text messages just fine, but not MMS photos. I installed Handcent and set the photo size to 100k and the messages went through. I'll be calling Tmobile tomorrow to make sure it's not a provisioning issue.
I'll update if a solution is found.

Would this help with receiving MMS messages though? I have issues sending and receiving them currently. Have not had an opportunity to speak with Motorola's level 2 support yet.

I'm on AT&T Gophone, not AT&T postpaid, so your experience may be different, but I've had no problem sending MMS to other phones (android + iphones) or receiving them.
The AT&T rep set up two APN that I can see, including them here for you to try out if you want:
Name: AT&T Phone
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Username: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: not set
MMS proxy: not set
MMS port: not set
MCC: 310
MNC: Not set
APN type: default, supl, hipri, dun
APN protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enabled
Bearer: unspecified
MVNO type: none
MVNO value: not set
AT&T US MMS
Name: AT&T US MMS
APN: phone

MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80

Authentication type: not set
APN type: mms
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enabled

FWIW I've also used this AT&T APN Suggested from ATT forum and it also works with MMS after a reboot.

Prepaid? Last I remember prepaid doesn't support 4G devices for data. And MMS uses data, not wifi. And while I'm aware the MotoG can use 3G(I have mine on Verizon)...AT&T tends to lock down their better phones to 4G only to get users on the contract.
I could be mistake and that phone is supported, but I don't believe they run 4G on prepaid/gophone and hence you might not be able to run data.
As of 2012 they had an inner memo to their call centers saying that 4G devices, Rimms, and iPhones wouldn't be supported for Data any further.
Having same problem as original post
I'm having the same problem as original post, except I'm using StraightTalk. My Moto G is the US version - GSM (uses AT&T network). I've set it up to use the APN that StraightTalk provided. Browser works OK, so I know data services are working, but I can't send or receive MMS messages. I've also tried Handcent that was mentioned in this thread, but it still doesn't seem to be sending. I've also tried the AT&T APN settings from this thread, but no go. Not sure what else to do...
