Rogers Galaxy S II - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Will the Rogers' version of the Galaxy S II be compatible with the ROMS, themes, tweaks from here? My guess is no since it doesn't bear the i-9100 or i-9100M tag.
Model: SGH-1727R
Android 2.3.5
Normally I'd just try flashing them, but not when I bought it outright for over $700

Just picked up my SGH-I727R at the Robbers and am thinking the Skyrocket will be a good seller thus our Galaxy S II's will get Root and all the good Rom's that come with that.

Just finished rooting a Rogers GS2 yesterday using the Zerg method from thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335702
Took about 3 minutes, works like a charm.

SGH-I727R? OK, you've got a rebranded ****rocket (with Crapdragon).
I9100 ROMs are NOT compatible in any way. AT&T Skyrocket ROMs will be. Also, porting ROMs and such from the T-Mobile T989 should be fairly easy.
The ****rocket and T989 have NOTHING in common with the remainder of the Galaxy S II series except for a name and a sAMOLED+ screen - everything else about them is completely different.

That's sad to hear...hopefully we'll get as good of a development support as my previous i-9100M did.
But 1 question though...why are you so jealous??

How is it gonna receive support any close to sgs2 original when this is essentially a 2 operator phone both of which are known for one or none updates per year?

Sorry whats wrong with the atrix? The screen is one thing. It's better for text, worse for solid colors, but seriously, the atrix, trash? No.
It's going to be a universal launch. Unlocked, all carriers, One price.
Koodo on tab, Virgin available for super tab, 3 yrs for all others, or straight up around 550.
It's pretty neat, but no superphone.
Did you try one? I actually picked one up from Bell on release day and used it for a week to see if I would make the switch. The result was a resounding no... it's just sluggish and choppy because of Motoblur. It's a typical case of good hardware, terrible software and execution. I could give you a detailed review of the shortcomings but that's not really the scope of this thread so... yay nexus =)

Samsung Offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade for GALAXY devices

http://global.samsungtomorrow.com/?p=8894
woooooooooooooooooo hoooooooooooo
Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.
The ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.
For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung GALAXY Nexus, the first Ice Cream Sandwich powered smartphone, were first unveiled at a Google/Samsung joint news conference in Hong Kong on October 19th.
Ice Cream Sandwich brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It has a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and a full Web browsing experience. Ice Cream Sandwich also features a new People App which lets users browse pictures, messages and social network updates from friends, family and co-workers.
Ice Cream Sandwich also introduces innovations such as Face Unlock, which uses facial recognition to unlock the smartphone. Using NFC technology, Android Beam allows users to quickly share Web pages, apps and YouTube™ videos with friends by simply tapping two phones back-to-back. Users can even use fun effects while shooting video or video chatting with Google Talk™.
Yay ... bring it

Should, yes.. GSII LTE is just the International name for the nonATT hacked up device.
Once a version for our phones is available, someone will post it up here. Or better yet an ICS rom may be available. Why wait for an OTA update, when you can get it here first?

Because some of us don't want to go down the Cooked Rom Road. Used to do it with my other phones but I need this one to be stable for business purposes. Don't want to be re-flashing and re-configuring every few days just to trade old bugs for new bugs. I love being on the cutting edge but between working, being a home owner and a dad I just don't have the time to do it right.

Agreed. If your phone is for business, then yes one should wait for an OTA update. Rock steady stability, is of greater importance than having a rom that is potentially buggy.

I have a Captivate and thinking about going with the SR but I must clarify, that the Captivate on AT&T has no Gingerbread update still! Of course I have been on GB for months on various custom ROM's. Every now and then I think about the people that are still on Froyo and it is hard to swallow. This is one reason that I would hesitate on the SR. Samsung may provide updates but AT&T takes FOREVER to test and release them. This phone is my daily driver and I am a heavy corporate user. I have had good luck with custom ROM's and would have to continue down this same path if I got a SR. Frankly, there are so many other benefits to custom ROM's that I would probably go that route even if I had a Galaxy Nexus.
Well, if att messes this up we can always port from rogers or T-Mobile

ICS for Galaxy devices delayed?

So back in December, Samsung stated that ICS would be available for Galaxy devices in Q1 2012 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397850,00.asp - among other sources).
Someone asked on Facebook when the update for the Galaxy Nexus S was coming and Samsung stated that "ICS updates for Galaxy devices will be available in early Q2." (https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050)...
Idk, that may be a bit different because the Nexus S is in the original Galaxy S family. Those are going to be updated after all the Galaxy S2 devices. They actually weren't even going to release the update for those phones initially.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Some rumors said march first, which would be q1 and not going to happen. Some leaked document i saw said april which would be early q2. God knows what they are doing over there. I want aosp/cm9 anyway, but if they release ics it might help get us closer.
I am so sick of this too.....
From now on I am only getting Nexus Devices
I'm sick of it too, but used to it. They just released official Gingerbread for the Captivate (my previous phone) a few weeks ago after XDA users had been running leaked versions for several months. But the devs here on XDA already have (as I understand it) some pretty kickass ICS roms available for the Captivate.
Don't hold your breath waiting for AT&T/Samsung. We'll have ICS here on XDA long before they make it officially available (but...without a secure element we won't be able to use Google Wallet--not sure how they're going to solve that one...re-issued sim cards maybe?)
Sounds like it's all Galaxy devices:
https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050
That being said, I wasn't holding my breath either for an official release but figured when one came it might help speed up some things here on XDA or for the CM guys.
And yeah, I was running ICS on my Cappy for a couple months before it died (needed a new mobo so the cost of upgrading to the SGS II LTE was actually cheaper than the repair on my Cappy - go figure)... the official Samsung/Rogers upgrade cycle on the Cappy was horrendous as well, bought it with Froyo, an hour later had CM7 on it, and it wasn't long afte they updated officially to GB that I was running TeamHacksung ICS alpha builds on it.
We'll be lucky to get official ICS before Jellybean is released
That is Samsung mobile Canada stating that. So may be different for us in the states. But what I think is funny is the vivid is getting the update soon, and if I'm not wrong both phones came out on the same day. So no blaming this on the carrier this time. Damn Sammy LOL.

True, it is Samsung Mobile Canada - I wasn't expecting us (or the US) to get it in Q1 anyways (officially) as the original statement I believe was for the international versions of the Galaxy S II/Note. Still, was hoping that the international stock rom would help jump/fix kinks some of the developers here are trying to overcome.
I'm in Canada, so I can only hope

To clarify, they only said the international versions of the S II and the Note would get it in Q1. The others that were announced to get ICS have never been given a time frame, other than that they would follow those two.
There seems to be a lot of confusion on that point.

Yes, I do understand that fully. Not holding my breath that the international version will be rolling out any time soon either.
Looking into the dev forum there are two promising roms one in alpha 1 with basic functions working and another one that the mods and the dev keep fighting over is a lot further along but I think was taken down again :-(. I'm guessing we have about a month maybe a bit more before we have some awesome functioning ics rom's

Switching to Verizon from Tmobile.

I'm switching to Verizon from Tmobile, I can't make up my mind on the GS3 or GN. I get a good deal threw my company and I can get either phone for $ 49.99. I want the Nexus because it has the best development and gets all the latest updates, and want the GS3 because of the amazing hardware and features...

Spec wise the S3 is better, Development wise the Nexus is better but the new Nexus is coming out this year. So, it's all up to you in you want an older phone with little bit worse specs than a newer phone with better specs unless you want to wait for the new Nexus.

I would honestly be surprised if the next Nexus phone is available on Verizon.
The GNEX was problematic because of the CDMA radio. The whole 'not a real nexus' and all. I think google has shown us how they want to start selling Nexus devices, and it doesn't appear to involve a carrier.

Well, what about the GS3 Developer edition?
I don't think you'll regret having the S3! It's been a great phone, and even though it's "locked" - there are/will be plenty of custom ROM's, hacks, and themes you can put into it!
I like the concept of the Galaxy Nexus but the screen is not as great as the S3, and even though it's only a 4.3 inch device, while the S3 is 4.8 - the S3 is the same size as the nexus and even a little thinner!!! Definitely nicer in my opinion!

[Q] Leaving SGS4G soon :(

I have finally decided that I need to get a better phone, since allot of phones are getting these new hardware such as NFC and all the new bells and whistles. The SGS4G community taught me allot, because they are helpful even though they can be rough on the edges. I might also be planning to sell my phone but not anytime soon but defnitely in a month or two. I'm planning ahead so I don't get all panicked when I pick a new phone. Also if you are interested on buying my phone please contact me, we shall discuss about the price. (Includes Otter box casing for protection, optional but I can give you the unlock code if you have a different carrier, I can pre-install ICS Google AOSP (from Erikmm) or stock Gingerbread with or without root)
Which next Samsung phone should I get?
I could ask on their forums yes but I want the opinion of the people here in my community. I am thinking of either getting the Galaxy Nexus or the Galaxy S III, but I can't decide, each phone has their pro's and con's.
If I get Galaxy Nexus I get direct updates from Google without Samsung/T-Mobile holding firmwares at bay. However if I get GS3 I get ton's of features extending from hardware to exclusive applications.
So please answer it below, you can suggest another brand phone but I highly doubt I'll get it.
The galaxy s 3 is without a doubt the best phone out there right now.
People will argue that the nexus is better because it gets updates faster. Yes, the galaxy nexus will get software updates directly from Google but software can only go so far and the hardware is almost a year old. The s3 has a huge development community so expect to get the latest android version with all the top roms (cm10 aokp miui paranoid android) on it.
If you're willing to wait, get the new nexus or the galaxy note 2.
If you are planning some months ahead then by that time there will be newer phone than the GS3. Which is the best phone now, but just now. That could change easily with the Note or a new Nexus.

Getting a new phone now is pretty dumb. Waiting til later this year or even the beginning of next year to hop on a quad core s4 or exynos is the ideal thing to do. I'm talking the s4 pro with the new architecture by the way. You'll also get the new adreno gpu or what Sammy offers depending on what device you choose. For instance many signs are pointing to that new LG Optimus G being a nexus device. That would be a gigantic leap from the sgs4g, even more so than the gsiii, by a lot. I'm just advising that you wait it out a couple more months cus it'll be worth it

That's funny. I have the galaxy s3 and I use my sgs4g as a music player because of voodoo sound. Mind you the sound on the US s3 is not bad but could be better like the international one.

Take a look at Tmobs website. You can get an S3 16GB for 99 bucks or the 32GB for 149. It's a pretty damn good phone and at that price you can just sell it when the S4 finally hit the US a year from now. If your not under contract and have some cash to throw at it get the international version.

Yeah I'm not under a contract :\ I might as well get it on a contract cause I definitely don't have 589.98 dollars lying around LOL. I might get the 16 GB version since I don't really put stuff in my phone, everything is in the cloud except for my music. I also have my old 16 GB card that came along with my SGS4G. So I might get a contract to get a lowered price.
This is what I found

Well I did say if you have some cash. lol Not being under contract opens up your options quite a bit though. I switched over to ATT about a year ago cause TMOB where I live sucks. I just unlocked my 4G and used it for a few months. When the Skyrocket came out I was able to score a refurbished one for 10 bucks with a new 2 year plan. The thing is if your a good costumer you can get that same deal again in about a year. You'll have to talk to upper level CS but they always will do it. Not sure if the same thing works with TMOB or Verizon.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V)
Hence... This forum.
You should wait a month or so to see is Sony, LG, and HTC have in the pipe in the way in a nexus. Then decide between those the s3, note 2, and incredible x...
If you are planning to keep a phone for 2 years then you should have the best roster possible... I know you asked only about Samsung... and I love Samsung but I am growing ever tired of their plastic builds and home button...
