Samsung Intros 5-Inch (!) Galaxy Note Smartphone, 7.7-Inch Galaxy Tab - General Topics

God it`s even bigger, I have seen the threads on a 4.5" but none on this 5"
Delete thread if old news.

I'm actually quite tempted.
I'm one of those oddballs who doesn't mind large devices, and that being the case its mostly positives from where I'm sitting (obviously will be too large for many to use as their day-to-day phone!).

that 7,7 Tab sure is nice but i just bought a GT10 some weeks ago so i wont be able to afford it
Maybe i can sell my tab and sgs2 and use this lol
Iam wondering how the Phone function will be implemented in the tab

I'm really tempted on the Note but what are its full specs? I already know about the screen but what are the rest?

all i've seen is a couple videos, i believe this is true:
dual 1.4 or 1.5Ghz
5.3 or 5.5 samold (Super HD) screen
stylus (wwoooohooooo !)
8MP rear cam
1.4MP front facing cam
2600Mah battery (wooooohoooooooooo!)
gsm and/or lte
it is a little big for a phone, a little small for a tab... but i think it is going to make some huge waves in the market. possibilities with a size like that are awesome.
things to hope for:
DLNA
hdmi-out
1Gb internal memory
microsd
dual sims
noise cancelling mics
GOOD GPS
awesome antenna
awesome battery life
i'm really looking forward to a long lasting device in STOCK FORM without a huge battery hanging off the back. we'll see if this comes through or not. i will be buying as soon as the early adopters confirm the bugs are minimal and livable. hope !
good job samsung

thanks, now I'm even more tempted now. I can't wait until they release this. Is there an estimated release date yet? I would sell my SGS2 for this.

What I discovered:
5.3 HD Superamoled
1.4 Ghz Exynos
1 Gbyte RAM
LTE and HSDPA
16/32 Gbyte versions
8 Mpixel rear / 2 Mpixel front cam
I am more than tempted. I want one now.

The 7.7 is Super AMOLED + & the Note is HD Super AMOLED I believe.

The note and it's display is extremely nice, but I don't think I could fit a 5.3" phone into my pockets.

fascinating..

I'd LOVE this. Undoubtedly a late US release. Question is when til Espansys etc will have it?

Seems like this is more of a Tablet than a Phone, which kind of defeats the purpose IMHO (if it's actually released like that)
Linux Insider said:
While the Galaxy Note is an unusual size, it packs a strong set of features. As for whether it leans more toward being a phone or a tablet, it seems to favor tablet.
"I'll call it a tablet because it will not be supported for cellular voice," Chris Hazelton, research director for mobile and wireless at the 451 Group, told TechNewsWorld.
"It does support IP communications such as VoIP and Skype," he said. "It has a very good camera, a great processor, and a great screen. But it's hard not to compare it to Dell's (Nasdaq: DELL) 5-inch tablet, which has not gained much traction in the market."

Roadmap
Furthermore the leaked roadmap highlights the Toshiba K01, K02 and L01. While all three smartphones seems to run on Windows Mobile 6.5, the Toshiba K01 is a landscape QWERTY slider, featuring a 4.1" WVGA capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdradon CPU and a 3.2 megapixel camera.
The Toshiba K02 seems to be a clamshell smartphone featuring a landscape QWERTY keyboard, 3.5" WVGA touchscreen plus front LCD screen, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdradon CPU and a 3.2 megapixel camera.
The Toshiba L01 features a massive 7" WVGA touchscreen, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdradon CPU and a 5 megapixel camera. The QWERTY keyboard seems to be removable.
All recently leaked Toshiba smartphones are said to feature HSPA.

Correct, however, it can be a bloody good on the spur of the moment camera and when the rest of the smart phones (with exception of HTC for some reason) seem to be at least 5mp..... and these phones are 8 to 12 months away!!!!
Dude, I was an extra on a film set and I forgot my camera at home, at the end of the day I asked some of the actors to take a picture with me, using my HD... the photos came out dark and blurry, and we looked poor and misearable compared to our usual handsome selves.
If I had any other phone (Omnia HD, S8300, KC910), I would still get pretty decent photos.
So yeah, it's disappointing that when you really need it, the camera in your Pocket PC isn't there to save a moment.
On the upside, Toshiba will release the TG03 with a better snapper (5mp) and the TG02 for folks who need a waterproof device.

don't know which phone you have but my Omnia 900 has taken some spanking spur of the moment photo's but thats 5meg. Been very happy with it.
edit: oh you mean Touch HD. Maybe its a crap 5meg in that?
The Touch HD takes fabulous photos in natural sunlight, crisper and sharper than many other 5mp cameras. But taking pictures in dim environments or indoors... is just a case of 'forget about it'.
Before, I had the KU990 Viewty, and as much as I was unimpressed with it, it had a strobe flash and focus assist beam, as well as VGA video recording and TV-out support. And that phone was by no means a high-end offering.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Specs (2GHz)

Source: http://www.redmondpie.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-specs-will-blow-your-brains-out/
The current generation of smartphones – with their 1GHz processors and 512MB of RAM – are already very impressive at what they can do. But rumored specifications (along with a photo) are spreading of the next generation of Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphone – the Galaxy S2 – and its specs will. freaking. blow. your. head. off.

It is supposedly scheduled for release sometime in early 2011 and will supposedly have the following specifications:
-A 2GHz Processor. Possibly the next-generation version of Samsung’s Hummingbird CPU.
-1GB RAM along with 4GB of ROM. This is, as with the CPU, twice the magnitude of current-gen hardware.
-32GB built-in flash memory. MicroSD card slot expandable to 32GB making the Galaxy S2 able to hold 64GB of data.
-8 megapixel camera with full HD (1920×1080) video recording. Current-gen smartphones record video at 720p (1280×720).
-A 4.3” 1280×720 Super AMOLED display
-GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, b/g/n Wi-Fi, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity / ambient light sensors.
-Run on Android 3.0 “Gingerbread”
While all these specifications are well and sweet, I really, honestly believe smartphone manufacturers, especially of the Android variety, should focus on increasing battery life by optimizing hardware + software instead of just blindly increasing clock speeds and doubling RAM. My HTC Desire still doesn’t last more than 15-16 hours whereas Taimur’s iPhone 4 blows past the 24 hour category without even going below 50%.
And yes, these specs are rumored. But if HTC and Motorola’s intentions of releasing 2GHz smartphones are anything to go by, they aren’t unbelievable.

What do you guys think the battery quality will be?
Hm unless Samsung has re-invented the battery for cell phones I seriously doubt this would have any type of usable battery life. I think those specs are too "wish list" to be believable.
But if they really do make that much of a leap in such a short time power to them, I just don't see anything like that happening.
Sorry, can this thread be deleted. I didn't see a Vibrant's "General" section 'till after.
Screw the 4.3" screen. Too big. 4" is perfect.
And these specs are fake.
It's just a made up rumor utilized to get people to visit their pathetic thing they call a 'website' filled with countless ads to make money out of people.
Boringggg. Don't people get bored of spreading these same exact rumors into the world every single time again?
Sounds great but those are some pretty bold rumors. That's a pocket sized computer lol
Battery life would last okay (i think) if it only uses the 2ghz when needed and when the screen is switched off bring it down to 400mhz You never know, it could last
that would be cool but i doubt that anything like that is gonna come out anytime soon.
It sounds like its unreal specs but hey we can dream for now anyway
sent from a evo 4g stock Rom for now anyway
Didn't Samsung said this is 5X faster than the Hummingbird?
Great, now just take those specs and throw in a 1400mah battery and it should be good for a solid 10 hours.
I agree with others in this post: the Android phone manufacturers should look a little more closely at battery life on their phones rather than turning the market into a **** waving contest. My G2 is at 29% after 37 hours right now, and it's a reminder of the reason why I bought it over the Vibrant.
Not impossible:
Processor could be the orion

ITT: people confusing Gingerbread with Honeycomb
i doubt it will have such specs you would need a nuclear power plant to power that thing even for a galaxy Tab 2 is pretty doubtful as specs...
More likely it will be a dual core cpu @ 1ghz with a ram in between 512mb-1gb and a screen resolution of about 540p or so a Samoled2 screen and probably a 16gb-32gb internal storage + sd slot

I'm not sure if this is real on not but I really think the 4.5 inch display is not going to make the phone any bigger than our Nexus S is. They said the buttons will be soft so it will most likely be that the area where our buttons are will just have more screen there and probably a bit on top. .25 here and .25 there and you got a 4.5 inch screen. So for full screen apps it would make sense.

Sounds like its gonna be an awesome device. I hate the fact that Google has us at the palms of their hands with this nexus craze (reminds me of iPhones and their fanboys in a way). But ill wait till the price drops after launch to snatch one. That'll also allow me more time to enjoy my NS.

I'm pretty sure screen measurements are the diagonal. It will have to be a bit taller but also wider - it will be bigger than the current phone. Whether it the added width is enough to matter to you is a personal choice but when I compared it even to the 4.3" Photon I felt that the Photon was too big for me.
this new beast is 4.65" it's almost 5" size screen
it'll make nice for entertainment that's for sure

Well one thing to consider too is that a larger screen doesn't necessarily mean that your "viewing space" is going to be larger than 4.5" or even 4.3" at that. With the lack of haptic buttons or physical buttons (like on the tablets) your navigation buttons are going to be on screen and able to utilize that function to change as needed, but that "space" at the bottom doesn't mean it will be usable/viewable or add any real size to the device itself.
Think Samsung Continuum minus the buttons and with the screens merged (but hopefully a hell of a lot prettier).
It actually looks very sexy, clean and simple. I hope the build qualitty is decent, alluminium or smth.

Agreed. After owning the Nexus S, it's clear to me that even the Evo was too big. The clarity of this screen is incredible, and the size makes it feel like more of a phone, rather than a mini-tablet. If the Nexus Prime really is that size, I'll pass.

Lenovo K900 thoughts

Didn't find a Lenovo K900 thread anywhere, on any site as a matter of fact, so I'm starting one. First phone from a Chinese company to get me excited. I'm still leery of ZTE and Huawei, but Lenovo has been making Thinkpads for several years now so I'll bite. This phone looks amazing, especially the diamond pattern. It's super blocky, but its so thin at under 7mm it makes it look really cool. The frame around the black glass front really makes it stand out in its own unique way. It even has a microSD slot. A big middle finger to all those other unibody phones that keep on saying no microSD is the future. The only thing I don't like is the look of the speaker grille. There's also a 13MP camera by Sony. Hopefully it is the new Exmor RS and not the old R. If it is the RS, it's kind of weird that Sony is not making their own sensor exclusive, and instead sharing the limelight with Lenovo on the same show. The Lenovo one is even thinner. Did I mention it has a 5.5" 1080p IPS screen?
Here's a fun video where the rep makes a bunch of mistakes. Poor guy confuses sim card with microSD card and internal storage with internal RAM. He also does this Sarah Palin-esque jumble of words about how he personally loves the phone, its good for low lighting, because he's a power user, and a whole bunch of other stuff that aren't necessarily connected. Does it in all the other videos too. Gotta dig how he says that 5.5" is the perfect size.
http://www.digitaltrends.com/ces-videos/hands-on-lenovo-k900-intel-atom-clover-trail-smartphone/
Here's a comparison with the Galaxy Note 2. Its a little bit taller, but looks a little bit less wide, if not the same.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsnX4qGERZI
Since you want thoughts, I have to say that IMO that's one of the ugliest phones to date. The shiny back thing worked well on phones like the Nexus 4 but on that it looks absolutely awful. From a specs standpoint it seems pretty decent, although I don't think it's any better than the Xperia Z or ZL (whichever one's better lol). The Xperias are infinitely better looking, too. However, as stated in the comments of the youtube comparison with a GNote 2, phablets are pretty pointless without some sort of special S-Pen like functionality.
I like the metal and those screws which make it look solid and upmarket even though being so slim. The diamond pattern version is not for me, although it does look like those engine turned instrument panels on pre-war Mercedes'. Performance wise I've seen initial benchmarks which look impressive. It does need an S-pen. At the moment the Note 2 is my favourite phone even though Samsung is using far too much cheap looking plastic.

Congratulations! Nicely designed hardware (the simple stainless version), unfortunately with really tacky overlay, but nothing that a good launcher can't help, I hope.
I just ordered one
Is the K900 definitely a WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 phone? Most specs mention only 2100 for 3G, some add 900, but one of the shops confirmed, when questioned specifically, that the K900 covers WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100. This is important for the US users (and here is what Lenovo seems to be distributing: http://www.letsgomobile.org/images/news/lenovo/lenovo-smartphone.pdf)
How do you like it so far?
What is the battery life?
What is the camera like in low light?
I also have the HTC One Developer Edition on order, but will probably cancel it (the f/1.8 lens on the K900 was the tipping point for me, hope it's great not just on paper).
Also, does it have FM transmitter?
Most of the chips with FM receivers include a transmitter as well, just curious if there is an app on the K900 for the transmitter.

k900 and iphone 5 have their own strengths,in your link to zol.com.cn ,they show that iphone 5's photo is better at night, but ,Lenovo K900 is still very stable from the comparison of outdoor , indoor , macro , panoramic night view of these aspects , whether it is indoors or outdoors, Lenovo K900 can be very accurate in place to restore the colors and details . iPhone 5 because of its usual " automatic " style ,adjust the photo color , brightness to compare to please the eye , but During panorama shooting iPhone 5 " automatic " loss of efficiency , a significant drop in the brightness of the screen .

Sure, the K900 has an overall fine camera with great wide aperture and hopefully the software side will be tweaked to make the shots better.
Thanks for the photos in the rooting thread you've started, it a great-looking phone.
Have you figured out if the phone has radio transmitter (so that you can stream music to FM frequency on your car radio, for cars without A2DP receivers)?
Also, have you come across any documentation on the 3G bands enabled (850 and 1900 are of particular interest)?
Oh, and can you get through the day without a recharge (with "normal" use)?
Thanks.
guys frankly before ordering i was thinking this is the best phone in the world in this price range but after i used it for 1 month ive realised that firstly..camera is good but it needs some settings every time.....guyz im not a developer but i guarantee u with roms like cm or miui this big beast will turn to a monster...problems is in its software"lenovo UI"..I WOULD APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE WOULD PORT ROMS ON K900

The Samsung I9295 Galaxy S4 Active has been in our rumor mill for quite some time. The latest leaked shots reveal that the Active will be a tougher dust and water resistant version of the Galaxy S4 flagship.
The specs are expected to be the same and the live pictures below confirm it - the device is running on a quad-core 1.9GHz processor with Adreno 320 GPU, which most definitely means a Snapdragon 600 chipset. The screen is a 5" 1080p Super AMOLED unit, the same as the one on the original Galaxy S4. There is still no info on the camera, but we expect it to be the same 13MP as on the Galaxy S4.
Despite the similar specs, the Galaxy S4 Active looks nothing like the original. It comes in a metallic shell with bolts on the back, and there are also three hardware buttons below the screen.
There is no official info on the Galaxy S4 Active yet, but as it turns out the handset has been showcased recently in Croatia, so an announcement is imminent.

What's the point of this phone ?
Also, I thought Activ = always meant Windows Phone ?
Looks nice but I like more the clean design of the S4.
This is will probably shut all the people saying cheap plastic about the S4
Also, it looks like it has a 8MP sensor and not 13MP like the S4.
Only dual core seems not very good, but @1.9GHz should be better
wow, looks good !!

It doesn't say anything about it being dual core... it's the same thing as the S4 but with different construction.

Windows Phone phones by Samsung are Ativ, not Active.
The point? To snatch up a part of the market opened by Sony with the Xperia Z. Personally, I'd gladly get one. To be able to use the phone and not worry about it dying in, for instance, rain... priceless

My bad, didn't noticed the Quad-core in the picture

Dpi= dots per inch
Dots and pixels are different things.

Same reason as having a phone in an otterbox case.... The work samsung have done will keep it waterproof and dust proof without the bulk of a thick case.
Ideal for those like me who work outside a lot and sometimes need to use their phone in the rain etc.

loooooooool
Looks cool and badass.. :good::laugh:
But the One has more class..
Still, i want to trade my S4 with that one -.,-
Man that looks freaking great...I wish I had the patience to wait for it BUT I already have my S4 in the mail and will be keeping her for 2 years
My otterbox and tempered glass will protect her just fine
Im sure release date is still unknown
I really don't like the look of the front buttons, personal thing of course, I just think it makes it look cheap.
Ok, it looks ugly, more specifically the front button part. Reminds me of my old nokia 5800 hardware buttons.
Love it. Want it. Getting it but wish it was smaller.
A 4.2 inch 720 screen is fine for the mountains.
Although a lot of people are saying that the buttons are ugly...one has to consider the fact that this is a waterproof phone
That being said if you are using your phone in the rain, the sensors probably wouldn't recognize your heat signature as such the buttons may be to ensure that a person can use it in wet conditions...just my opinion
