*LOOK* Trying To Fix a Droid that wont boot up. - Motorola Droid Android Development

i purchased this motorola droid from a friend for 20 bucks, anytime u plug it into an outlet and try to power it on it comes up and says Battery To Low To Program on the boot loader screen, well i got past this by cutting up a USB cable and connecting the positive and negative to the battery connectors inside the phone like this...

Now im at the boot loader screen that says...
I have installed the RSDLITE 4.9 and the latest Motorola Drivers from Motorola, and i cant get RSDLite to find my phone at all, even if i check the first come first serve option under config, the only way i can get it to recognize it is to roll back from RSDLite 4.9 back to 4.5.3 and then it will recognize it and say its connected but when i add the .sbf file and hit start i get this error...
"Device SE flash OMAP3430 MI is not supported
Failed flashing process unable to find initialization values INI file (0x7029)"
Im not a beginner in anyway when it comes to android ive been messing with them for about a year now started out with a droid and then moved over to sprint where i have a rooted EVO that i mess with alot, if there is anything anyone can think of to help id really appreciate it im out of ideas and i hate to just throw in the towel and say its broke, the phone will go into recovery when i try to do a factory wipe it just gives me a bunch of E: open dev then says it ran out of trys, clears my cache and data and thats it, i still get the white M screen and all that just when i try to power it up it goes straight to the bootloader 2C.7C screen. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled each version of RSDLite from 4.5 all the way up to 4.9 as well as old and new motorola usb drivers as well as rebooting my machine each time. When i plug the phone in after holding Up + Power my computer does recognize the Motorola SE Flash interface or whatever it says when you plug them in and load the boot loader so idk please help...
**EDIT**
As far as i know this phone was not rooted when i got it and is not the phone in my signature, the guy said one day it just started giving him the low power cannot program screen.

really? no one has any ideas?

The first thing I would do is find out if the phone had been rooted. If so the answer could be as simple as flashing a rom onto it if you can get to recovery. I'm pretty new to working with rooted devices and it seems you've come to the wrong place to discuss this phone as it seems not many people care about the Droid. Its more about the Milestone here.
If the device isn't rooted and you do decide to break down, you could call Verizon or Motorola (depending on who you want to deal with) and see about getting a replacement phone.
The droid is pretty fun to mess with and it seems that there are a lot of cool things you can do with it. It doesn't have some of the hardware that the newer phones have, so some of the apps/mods/addons wont work the way you want them to, but its still fun to have a phone around that you can constantly test on and work with.
I wish you the best of luck with this my friend and I hope that some how I helped with this. I'm looking forward to finding out if you got your "Dinodroid" running again lol.

Considering this is the section for droid its the right place to come. Just because more user have milestones does not mean theres not someone willing to help.
As for the droid what .sbf file are you trying to flash? You just said you flashing a .sbf file you didn't say exactly what? I'm guessing a custom rom image or a stock version of the droid. You might wanna double check the sbf your using to make sure its for the droid and not milestone. Don't know much about the droid but thats the first thing Id check.

well i have made some progress, my cousin has a moto droid 1 and i swapped his battery in with mine and what do you know, phone fired right up! I took the phone home, plugged it into a charger with the original battery and it worked, battery even started charging. Well... Soon after me messing with it for probably an hour or 2 the phone starts randomly rebooting and now will only start up to the bootloader screen. Im thinking the battery could be bad and its maybe sending mixed voltages to the phone and making it operate radicly? I know these phone are suppose to operate at a certain "safe" voltage in order to work correctly and im thinking that may be why cutting up the USB cable and connecting it to the battery terminals of the phone may have not worked? Im thinking the battery may be bad and the phone is trying to protect itself from being shorted out? Idk just an idea. So i ordered a brand new droid battery from amazon so we will see what happens once it gets here.
And for Mastur Mynd, thanks for the advice, thankfully this isnt my main phone, i have a evo 4g on sprint and this phone is just for tinkering i figured i could fix it and if not im only out 20 bucks and my time. Hopefully the battery works tho because the phone is MINT and it worked perfectly for the short time i got it to fire up.
TaintedCross - as far as i know the phone wasnt rooted, the guy said he spilt water on the table the phone was on and the water ran underneath the phone and didnt actually get on it, so thats why im thinking its just the battery shorting out. I doubled checked the .sbf files like 10 times downloading them from differnt websites and stuff so i know thats not the problem.

I had an incredibly similar problem trying to repair a friend's Droid X. It was water damage to the boot sector. If you can get it to boot up again, I suggest flashing a new ROM via ClockworkMod. If you're lucky, it may fix the problem by overwriting the kernel, system, etc. where the problem could be located. If that doesn't work, try to .sbf about a hundred times. I spent a good 12 hours .sbfing over and over until it stuck. The only thing is that you HAVE to have +80% battery before attempting an .sbf flash because the phone doesn't charge while in the bootloader. Hope this helps.

Battery dying !!!

I have a lot of battery issues lately... For info I have my xt720 for 1year and 3mouth i buy right after motorola release it
So if that can help someone...:
This is my first post with my first battery "blackout"...
My phone is dead !!!!
i don t know what to do!
It don t want to charge anymore
This morning i notice it wasn t fully charge after going out but i came back before it die so I plug it i had about 10% left
5min after it make me some no battery alarm ( 3 or 4) like if the phone was not plug anymore i replug it. it works but without moving it it stop charging
It reboot but with 5% battery and die
Now i can t boot anymore
Sometimes my led light but it never boot...
I hope it s only my usb cable or my electric plug that is causing it but i don t think so since i don t touch it when it stop charging...
I don t know what to do!!
It was my only phone...
The next day:
My phone come back to life after one night without battery...
Don t ask me why but this morning it charges like always....
I think its a motorola ota update... loool it s time to change !!!
The evening of the same day i plug it as always (it works well all the day) and not any problem
but this morning (the next day morning) my phone was out (black screen and not any reaction when power on or when pluging it...)
I remove the battery about 10minutes then i plug it and it works (it take about 1hour to start but the battery was totally empty so this is normal)
I m not sure what i m going to do right now...
I think the battery is the problem but i can t be totally sure.....
I hope the nexus prime will be release soon and worldwide...
I m going to try the new Mz CM7 and a battery calibration but i don t believe......
just get a new battery from ebay or Deal Extreme
only $3 + free shipping
i've got a few of those for spare, and they work great!

You re kidding!
I will search for this tomorrow thanks!
(If you remember the sellor......)
So I remember this from another thread yesterday and I had a similar problem. However my wifes is a bit different. Riddle me this. Her USB port is either not reading or not connecting. I checked her pins and plugged in my phone (works fines). I even went to /system/app/usb.apk and reinstalled. I even jiggled it softly, then wildly and then softly again to no avail.
Any ideas? We can take it in to CBW but man I hate that place with a passion. Would love for it to be something I can fix myself. At this point, i have to charge her battery in my phone and then swap them out until she either gets it fixed or replace the whole damn phone. I spent most of the night backing up her stuff last night (for some reason cannot do a nandroid of /system, data, cdrom, cache, cust or ext. Not sure what is the problem with that. She has 2.1 with app2sd script (much like ESB only not app2ext but rather app2sd)
This has happened to me a few times and freaked me out a little. Rebooting the computer (not the phone) worked, though. I think the USB stack on the desktops/laptops must get confused sometimes. It was even phone specific. One phone would work and the other wouldn't. After reboot both worked again. I feel myself becoming more and more superstitious.

Only other idea I have is swapping batteries to see if there's a chance the problem is there... that sucks. Sounds like what happenesld to HM.

Did that. Actually swap hers into my phone to charge it up and then put mine back. Sucks b/c she is a stay at home mom, so she needs her phone. Seems to me to be a hardware issue. Maybe something connecting the usb port to the phone. Short or bad wire or something like that. She's going to CBW to day to do battle.
if it's really a USB port problem, or lose contacts in the USB of the phone
you can always charge it with an external charger
see this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=927385

Our carrier replaced it with a Nexus S, so I might be hitting you up for some suggestions. Easye420 mentioned that you turned him on to some things over there. I'll root it and unlock the bootloader tonight and check it out, then probably PM you.
The problem with ebay and all the internet sellors is that i will have to wait for 2 or 3 weeks to get it....
I will have to quickly go to Paris during the lunchtime (i hope i will find one)
For the info last news of my dying battery...
Now it can t boot with out being plug....
But when it s on then the battery always stay at 0%(I never see the 0 before my battery issue) even after 3 or 4 hours of charge
but a little bit fun when i plug it i have the battery charging animation and it show me that my battery is fully charged...
The end of the story...
I just get my new battery (a standard motorola the same as the stock) (cheap and very fast to get if there is someone having battery problem on Paris... let me know by pm)
and I think everything is coming back to normal...
I m not sure yet cause the battery% is acting weird but i think it s the calibration
When i first plug it it show me 50% after a boot it shows 0% but it was charging...
After another reboot it was at 90%....
My moto is making fun of me!!!
But i think everything will come back to normal after a full charge and discharge...
I will let you know

So you change it???
Did you make it work with charged battery???
I changed my battery and my phone don t boot anymore again
The first day i changed the battery it worked well i fully charge it and to calibrate it well i fully discharged it (until the phone shut down)
But now it don t want to charge again!!
When i plug it was booting at the beginning but after the boot it show 0% of battery and shut down after 10seconds
I test it 4 or 5 times and now it don t boot anymore
When i plug it sometimes it show me the animation with 50% of battery but it never move and shut down after max 5minutes (and now even this never happened)
I was asking myself about buying a battery charger like you say allgamer but i m not sure if that will work or if it s really broken
Now it don t have any reaction no matter what i try........
I don t know what to do i was waiting for the nexus prime but it will not shown up until at least 2 mouth (maybe more in France)
I think i read one time a guy who connect the power wire of an usb cable directly on the battery to charge it... It was a milestone battery i think (but its the same for the xt720)
Someone know something about that???
I m trying to recharg it only by connecting the wire to the battery...
We ll see... I don t have other solution for the moment (I try it before buying a battery charger)
I did this (bottom left)

After 1hour of "this way" charging
It seems to have charge but just a little (even if i plug it to the charger and not to usb. It is a lot faster when charging the phone)
I can boot it but it still don t charge (i was hoping it will charge again after the battery get a little more juice)
I have plug it another time i will let it charge for 3 or 4 hour it should let me boot and use it a little more i hope....
I had the same battery problem.
I did the same trick to boot up to flashing mode, and flash back to stock sbf.
After that, battery manage to recharge.

Mine don t want to....
I charge it for 3 or 4 hours and it boot without a problem (even if it show 0% battery again) I was able to go to bootloader or recovery but that s not my problem i just need to charge it and it don t want....
I think i m gonna buy a external battery charger. But that sucks it s about 50€ (i already spent 20€ for a battery...) and i m not sure that it will work...
What ROM do you have installed? I think some on the recent CM7's replace the charge_only_mode with a reverse-engineered non-motorola one.

I don t even try this.... It really seems to be a hardware problem
I m backing up my old 6.3 right now...
edit i hope you re right but it don t want to charge even when in the system... I mean after the boot i can play a little bit before the system shutdown and it don t charge even when it s power on...
It s still booting (i hope i m not in a bootloop i don t have the battery for...)
edit 2: the battery last enough to boot but it s the same...
Im gonna buy an external battery charger tomorrow.... I don t have any other choice...

[Q] How to debug Infuse restarting randomly?

Hi,
I just bought a 2nd hand infuse 2 weeks back. I was using the stock GB for a while, and the phone was restarting sometimes. To fix this and get ICS features, I rooted and moved to the ICS CM9 ROM. Still the restarting didn't go away. I flashed everything before installing the rom. So, I guess this can't be an issue with either of the roms but probably something else. Also, when the restart happens the battery gets drained significantly.
After some searching, I saw in some threads that memory issues can do this or probably a bad app (I only have popular apps only though). I was wondering is there a way whether I can some info to debug the problem, when this restart happens?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
It might not be a ROM issue but a faulty power button. The are several threads on this. You may want to search "power button".

Hmmm, the power button seems to work alright. But if the power button is always pressed, I shouldn't be able to press it again and make it function properly, right? All the functions of the power button seem to be doing OK, i.e. menus pop up and it puts the phone to sleep mode, etc.
Is there anything more I can check to confirm that it is not the power button?
Is there a way to get a thread dump or any other log at the time of restart?
A few more details -
- I believe it goes to a boot loop when it restarts (loops from the cm logo back to samsung
- goes to a charge loop if I connect to a charger
- long holding the power button at this time restarts the phone and brings it back to normal
- I notice it happens a lot at the lock screen, but it happens at other times too, still to figure out a pattern

I have the exact same problem. Please let me know what you and people come up with.
Battery drops at least 4 or 5% after those random reboots.
I put liquid smooth JB on the infuse and was able to reduce the reboots to maybe 1 or 2 a day but the battery drain is still insane. from full to empty in 7 hours (but the battery usage says 17hrs, so please dont be confused, its really only 7hrs), texting, checking emails but nothing else. no music, or gps or anything that it intense.
The battery usage shows a constant battery drain, everything is at either 5 or 10% usage, except the screen which is at 42 - 60%

Any ideas?
I've managed to get some logs when this happens using alogrec (attached). I haven't worked with the dalvik kernel or android apps much to understand what is going on.
I hope someone would be able to go through them and pick up something. My knowledge on the subject is not enough to pick whether anything is wrong here.
Also, I noticed sometimes the battery drops from around 30% to a whooping 5% when this happens. So, maybe this is a faulty battery problem??

I ordered a new battery and hope that this will fix the problem, if anyone knows anything else please let me know. the battery is only 1 year old.
I had similar symptom (reboot followed by battery indicating lower) once when I had applied too much undervoltage applied.
I've had the same things happen with my phone.
1) the huge drops in battery isn't an actual drop. 99% of the time if you don't plug in a charger the battery will start 'charging' on it's own until it gets to the right amount.
2) just because the power button works doesn't mean there isn't something wrong. The infuse is notorious for messed up power buttons. There is a thread around here somewhere about fixing it. I've not done it because I managed to get things under control.
3) I've noticed that the reboots seem to occur more frequently when a large number of apps ( popular or not) are installed, or apps that are resource intensive. For instance I bought minecraft because my daughter has become adducted to it. Sometimes its fine other times it freezes and reboots. My solution is to only keep apps I use on my phone. I will most likely uninstall minecract until a later date.
4) For me smaller ROMs work better. The current slimrom works the best for me. Also finding time to remember to reboot my phone once a day no matter how it is running helps.
I'm down to a reboot every one or two days now. Unless I try to play minecraft. I blame those damn creepers. Good luck!

So, what happened between the time it charged to the time when I shut off and wouldn't reboot?
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

Yea, charged while off. started at 0%, checked about hour later was around 30%, another hour at 90, little later checked was at 100%. Pulled off and then the issue came.
Just got back from testing with voltmeter. got nothing outta it. no affect on meter at all. Ohms were still good which proves there was no short.
Im dumbfounded as to how it completely killed the battery while the phone stated it was charging.
Gonna get a new battery and go from there. Might sell it, might give it to mother. we'll see.
Thanks guys for getting me to attempt more after I gave up. but now its time to finish hacking the One S
White LED light means there is not enough battery juice to boot the phone.

Team Blackhat
Since you are in the US your best bet is to get factory programming adapter / cable from Team Black Hat (Google it) & you will mostly restore your phone to life ( I wish we could get it in India). Else if in warranty claim it (microwave trick maybe to get a claim if it black hat stuff doesnt work out.
From what I read of Black hat and also of my soft brick personal experience due to bmm logwrapper vs A2bootstrap issue I know for a fact that my battery had enough juice but my RSD failed at step 13 or 14 so I cant say fxz will always save a moto user and black hat also acknowledges this that sometimes the phone wont let you fxz and thats where their product is a life saver. Cant comment why your phone went kaput. Check it out bro. All the best.

The Mcgruvyer method has been around for long but I am not comfortable doing it lest fry my phone literally for good due to shoddy workmanship by myself. Also what I mentioned is a option which allows to fxz phone with no battery inserted physically, but good to receive additional info.

Yikes! That's good to know, thanks for the heads up. Muck you Fotorola, indeed.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
having same problem but mine gave white light right after i tried charging drained battery
I think some IC may be damaged on the motherboard. If you have a warranty then please take your phone to service centre.

razr hd black screen,greel led

Hello All,
i upgraded xt925 to kitkat from JB as per xda post successfuly but i noticed i was no receiving sms so i tried to change modem through razr toolkit modems but no success then i changed firmware through razr toolki and decided to put retail brazil but it gave error on 7/22 on rsd lite while doing so phone screen turned off and didnt turn on when i put on charging green led blinks i tried all methods power plus volume up down etc many times but phone doesnt turn on,no fasboot.i showed it to local repairing shop they said its boot is damaged. Please help me to revive my phone.is there any mehod to repair boot?i also have tried different 5V chargers thinking about low battery but no success the phone remains dead.simcard and sd card already removed.Help please
xt925 no working bootloader
Please try to help
is there any method to reflash bootloader or some way to show up bootloader?no combination of power, volume keys working.just green light blinks when i put on charger.i even charged it with tablet charger of 5V 2A but green light keeps blinking in a sequence.
Guys atleast give some suggestions.it can happen with anybody.can bootloader flashed again some way?any other way to give life to this dead xt925?
No one bothers to give a suggestion.please let me know if i should post my problem in any other relevant forum.

First off, you need to take a deep breath and calm down. If no one has answered, then it's either they don't know the answer (you do really want them to answer "I don't know how to help you. Sorry.") or just wait until someone reads it and thinks they know the issue.
Now, a couple of questions:
1 .What image did you flash the modem from? Need the full image name.
2. Did you use the correct image for your phone? Again, answer from question 1 will help.
I would suggest it's time to grab the correct image for your phone and flash the full image. Then next time, instead of flashing modem, do a clear dalvik and cache first. Then, if that doesn't work, do a Factory Data Reset, which that usually cures the issue.
But, at this time, you're only recourse is to flash a full stock image back to your phone to ensure you didn't corrupt anything. If that doesn't work, then I'd say you probably flashed the wrong image somewhere and bricked your phone. If a full factory image flash doesn't work, then you definitely bricked your phone and there's not much else we can do to help.
Sir it was one of the modem from razr hd toolkit there are 4 or 5 i think.after flashing that modem i changed firmware to rsrd that is used before upgrading to kitkat.firmware flashed succesfuly&i was recieving sms then i decided to flash retail brazil while doing so in rsd lite it gave error on 7/22 i repeated once again error then i tried to fastboot again but screen didnt turn on afterwards till now.
As you suggested to flash a new rom but how can i flash phone dont turn on,no fastboot,no recovery menu, phone dont connect through adb or rsd lite.tried many combinations of power plus volume up down but nothing.only if i put it on charging green light blinks and that is all.
You may be perma-bricked then. This is why when flashing you have to ensure you flashing the correct images for your phone as well as the correct version. Not doing so can cause the situation you are in.
There might be another way to fix it, but I have no idea and will leave it to someone else to hopefully help if they know of a way to fix it. If not, your only recourse is to turn the phone in for a swap. If it's still under warranty, you might be able to get another one swapped out.
I have no other help to offer, unfortunately.
Good luck!

I checked with multimeter i think point 3 is 5V wire but if i connect point 3 to point 4(empty) nothing happens on phone screen just green led stops blinking which otherwise blinks always when i connect any usb with charger or latop.

well the point of the factory adapter has nothing to do with the battery, infarct, it bypasses the battery altogether.
so you trying to hook the cables to the battery, missed the entire point of the adapter.
if the phone is not totally bricked, it should boot right into fastboot when you plug it in.
use google to find a place to fix it.
This wire attached to my phone battery was broken when i tried to open phone the wrong way.i didnt open the 2 screws on bottom but just seprated from kelvar side.di i need to replace battery or this connection wire can be repaired?by the way phone is still nonfunctional doesnt go to fastboot or recovery it is dead just green led blinks when i attach charger.

Phone shuts down and will not boot when charging [SOLVED]

This trouble started about a month ago. The phone was rooted but I unrooted, factory wiped and then did the ota update last week. The trouble did not go away, unfortunately.
If I am using the phone, and plug the charger in, after a couple seconds it will immediately power off and go to the green charging screen. If I try and power on from there, it will power off again around the time the blu animation plays. Sometimes, it will get to "Android is starting.... Optimizing apps (number) of (number)" It won't get very far into that before it shuts down again. My girlfriend also has a Pure XL and I get the same result when trying to use her charger.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks!
edit: SOLVED!
Here is what happened: When I first got this device in december, I rooted it the day after it arrived. A week or so later, the phone randomly got stuck in a boot loop. No amount of button presses and or holds helped. The only thing i could think to do was a battery pull. As I was pulling the battery, I tore the ribbon cable in half. Within an hour I had soldered in some kynar to patch the tear. It booted right up and charged no problem at all and didn't give me any trouble until these recent charging issues. Tonight I decided to open it up and check the connections again. Lo and behold, a solder joint had failed in the center (thinnest) part of the patch job. I de-soldered everything, cleaned up the old solder, split the cable up and was able to do a much better patch job this time around. Everything is up and running just like new again. Thank you folks for helping me troubleshoot.
For anyone wondering what the heck I am talking about, here is an image of a similar ribbon cable patch job. This ribbon has 6 tracks. The Pure XL battery only has 3.:

All that seems within spec;
Id try reloading the rom using spflash tool (read the unbrick thread, its full of information)
or if that seems too major of undertaking, maybe pull some adb logcats and see what exactly is causing the reboot

Yeah I rooted it again for logcat access. I used an app called catlog to see the logs (in real time?) Will checking the logs via adb show me the stored logs and hopefully whats happening just before crash?
At what point after powering the phone on does it actually start logging?

Logcat should start logging as soon as its service starts, which is early in the booting stage so it should be logging everything that the system spits out while the phone is booting up and while running.
If you know exactly what to look for and how to troubleshoot Android systems, then you can try to debug the issue yourself. If you don't, just post the log(s) and let someone experienced and helpful check it out. Logs should be the files stored in /dev/log.

Something I've wondered about soldering on those flex cables, does the soldering iron melt the plastic, I've got a few things that could be fixed if I had the balls to try it
Of the admittedly few flex cables I have soldered on, I can't recall the plastic ever melting. I always use some kind of blade to scrape the top layer and expose the metal tracks underneath. If they are really small and or close together, carefully cutting the plastic between the tracks can make the job easier as you can individually lift and solder them one at a time.
Hey. I'm having a similar issue with my phone. How do you get the cable out for the battery? I just purchased this phone with issues from someone and it looks like they tried to remove the battery and I'm having similar issue to you but I'm not able to get the battery out and I don't want to destroy the cable. Thanks.
How do you remove the battery?
