This phone has nothing to do with Hua Wei other than they also purchased a variant of it from Foxconn.
USB drivers report it as Foxconn / Hon Hai Precision Industries manufactured.
The kernel logs are littered with FIH (Foxconn International Holdings) labels.
The Ideos X6 thread reviews/comments section also confirms this and listed all variants based off this model at that time.
i.e. it's a re-branded for motorola Foxconn ODM phone... probably because Motorola didn't expect enough of them to waste time doing their own scratch design and arranging mfg... it's a very common practice in electronix, e.g. all alienware notebooks were just rebranded Sager notebooks.
[EDIT]
That said Foxconn could certainly have done a better job on the froyo build...
[/EDIT]

the phone has a big "m" on the back that makes it a motorola phone. there is you your answer. move on!

I m in France and i bought my xt720 in july!!!! Just 4 month old !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, but Motoroi IS getting 2.2 in Q4. Isn't that the same as XT720? Also, I have an XT720, I'm in the US, and they don't even list that model for US phones at all!

yes, currently US XT720 and Asia-Pacific Milestone XT is not in the list yet. According to what's happened to Backflip, only US backflip got 2.1 update and the rest of the whole world has to live with 1.5. So, US XT720 has a very high chance of getting the upgrade.
for Motoroi, The WCDMA module and camera module is different. so, I'm not sure it would work with your US XT720. At least, you'll loose your 3G and camera functions.

what about StarHub XT 720 from Singapore?
will they dumb us like the rest of the world

according to what's written on Motorola's Forum, StarHub's XT 720 is officially called Milestone XT and they have not yet put it into the list. so, just wait and see.
let assume starhub milestone xt will get froyo update
would it be possible to flash uk xt720 to starhub firmware?

Absolutely possible. But you'll need a way to find your own language pack. (that's the only different). And that's also I'm having doubt for Milestone XT to get Froyo update. Language pack is so easy to add in the rom for them. So, if they're planning to upgrade Milestone XT, there definitely should be an update for XT720 EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) phones.
Let's wait and see what they'll do for US XT720. If I'm not wrong, they'll deliver update for US XT720 (similar things happened to BackFlip).
My main doubt is about 8MP camera module. Seems like they can't make it work with Froyo. That's why XT720 Froyo update is pending (MOTOROI has got 5MP module)
I`m not sure that the camera is problem... 5 or 8MP is all most the same... I think that the camera hardware is same in all XT/Motoroi series, but in XT720 is 8MP with software emulation.
My hope is Motoroi XT720 (XT711)... This Korean version will receive 2.2 this year (will see...), the hardware is 98% the same, difference are minimal (according gsmarena.com) :
- Some DVB-T tuner
- Only 2100 HSDPA (In europe this is the same)
I`m trying to find Korean 2.1 original rom to flash my XT720... if 2.1 works, I think that 2.2 will work too.
if some one can give me link to Korean rom I will try and write result.

you can download Korean ROM at the above link. I support your idea. may be we can install Korean ROM and do a little modification to our needs.
OK, Now I`m with Korean Service rom.. The phone boot and work normal for the moment.
I will check it today, but I think that this will be the solution if Motorola dont release update to 2.2....
I must change keyboard... my korean is not very good
This is good news! Waiting 2.2 on motoroi

Mmm... no so good for the moment.
Sorry, but my English is not very good to describe everything. After I flash Korean rom (service version) I have this problems:
- Must add manual my operator
- cannot find APN in the menus and for the moment don`t have data
- The touch buttons don`t lights (but light when tel. boot up...)
- The proximity sensor have his own opinion how and when to work ;-)
I decide to flash because I have another phone to use. Today I was out of time to test more precise the phone with Korean rom, but I will these days.
It will be better if someone how knows Android OS well support us in this, because I`m not a software expert... It`s no problem to use me for all king of tests and experiments, but don`t ask me to create scripts and roms
thats sounds good so far!
It's no prolem to chance the "apns-conf.xml". Then there will be Data again
The Light of the touchbottoms is also a setting in the "build.prop". So no problem again
The sensor MIGHT be a problem but if it sometimes works, then a wrong setting will be the problem.

motorola sucks. its no wonder they havent had profit at all recently
Now Motorola sucks... before Samsung... maybe next year HTC will sucks with some model...
We cannot change them... The are too big and don`t care for few clients (because the angry clients are 2-10%).
And of course.. Google is wrong... It`s impossible to control, support and update new OS every 6 months... and for 5-10 phones from a brand.
The only way is customization...
it does not mean we cant just give up. i mean what have we got to loose if we sign the petition?

hey guys help me with ur views and suggestions.
Spice MI-410 (Rebranded Huawei IDEOS U9000 X6) - 13K -- Nothing beats this for value for money - 4.1" 800x480 Screen, Qualcomm MSM8255, Adreno 205GPU, 5MP Cam with Flash, 512MB RAM.
HTC Desire (Not S / HD) - 15-16K
Motorola Defy - 15K
If you are ready to consider 'mid range' devices, the range of choices grows a lot. You can then include Galaxy Ace, Wildfire S, ChaCha, Dell XCD35, Huawei U8800 X5. But, if I were to buy a phone today at 15K, I would pick one from the 1st 3. (Inclining more and more to the Spice, but, sadly, there's no section for it at XDA - Yet)

thanks,
is spice (Huawei IDEOS U9000 X6) reliable in terms of hardware and stuff ? i'm not able to get desire for 15-16k (dealers in delhi are quoting around 20k !!!!). i checked out defy but it seems to lag especially while scrolling up and down the screen...
was in dilemma so posted here for help.
The X6 should be reliable, I don't see why not. Besides, it is backed by the normal manufacturer warranty.
Desire was on stock at Flipkart.com for 16.5K but is unfortunately not in stock ATM.
Saholic.com lists the Desire as in Stock though at 15.5K, and, since they are a Spice initiative, the MI-410 is also available exclusively through them online (For 14K - as I stated above). Only thing - You'll have to be comfortable buying a phone online.
For the Defy, I have tested it quite a lot(A friend of mine has it), and, frankly, I haven't felt any lag at all. Then again, maybe its because I have a Wildfire, and everything other than it will feel fast.
Good Luck

[Campaign] ICS-compatible OpenMAX IL compiled for ARMv6 from Qualcomm

Hello. I've just started a new campaign for Qualcomm. Please, support it by signing
http://www.groubal.com/ics-compatible-openmax-il-compiled-for-armv6-from-qualcomm/
As you might know there are millions of ARMv6-based devices in the world, and many developers are trying to prolong their life porting latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich to them.
Last time we asked you to release Adreno 2xx driver updates for ARMv6-based chipsets MSM7225 and MSM7227. And Qualcomm has released the update which is really greatly appriciated. (http://www.groubal.com/ics-drivers-compiled-for-armv6-from-qualcomm-update-drivers-released/)
But now we stuck at another point and we couldn't proceed any farther without the help of this great company.
I'm talking about OpenMAX Integration Layer update (core & codecs) for our devices. It is used for hardware-accelerated video recording and playback, image capturing, camera controls etc. Now we are able to use only software "acceleration" for that, which makes device almost useless for many things. It was present in Gingerbread, but it has lower API version, so we can't just use it in Ice Cream Sandwich.
Without help of Qualcomm it's nearly impossible to overcome, because our devices uses QDSP5 digital signal processor, which has no publicaly available specs to port OpenMAX by hand.
Qualcomm has also released updated version of the chipset named MSM7227a which has pretty same hardware (QDSP5 too), but ARMv7 core. Devices with MSM7227a are able to run ICS out of box!
These devices are affected by the problem (according to Wikipedia):
LG Optimus Me, Samsung Galaxy Fit, Samsung Galaxy Mini, Samsung Galaxy 551, LG Optimus Chic, ZTE Blade, HTC Legend, Mytouch 3G Slide, HTC Gratia, LG Optimus One P500 GSM, ViewSonic ViewPad 7, Samsung Galaxy Europa, Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 (SE Shakira), HTC Aria, Palm Pixi GSM, OlivePad VT-100, HTC Wildfire S, Alcatel OT-990, Micromax A70, LG Optimus chat L-04C, Huawei Pocket WiFi S II S41HW, Huawei Ideos X3, Huawei Sonic U8650, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro, Garmin & Asus M10, WellCom A88, Coolpad W706, Garmin & Asus A10, Samsung Galaxy Gio, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Odys Space, LG Optimus Net, LG Optimus Hub, ZTE Skate, HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, Huawei smart bar S42HW, Coolpad 7260, ZTE Blade S
Most of them already have a working port of ICS, CM9, AOSP, AOKP etc. Almost everything is working except multimedia hardware acceleration!
So, please Qualcomm, hear our voice again!
Please sign the petition if you have a device that meets one or more of the following:
1. uses ARMv6
2. has an unofficial ICS port (CM9, AOKP, MIUIv4, etc.)
3. does not have an ICS port due to the lack of these drivers
If you have anything you would like to say, please add a comment along with your signature.
Also, please spread the word about this Groubal (in forums, social networking sites, etc.). For example, if you are using some kind of ICS port, you can post in the thread of your rom. Or if there is a Facebook page for your phone, you can post there too.
Please do not sign the petition more than once or spam the petition. It ruins its credibility, not to mention that you are probably lowering the chance that our voice will be heard. If you really want to support this petition, then don’t spam.
Other than signing the petition below, please voice your opinion in the following links:

Use social networks to reach Qualcomm:

[Q] Current recommendations for powerful low-budget phone / tablet supported by CM?

I'd like to buy a new phone and/or tablet, I don't mind if no-name Chinese, but it has to be
powerful with up-to-date hardware
low-budget (I mean a real bargain)
suitable for running CyanogenMod
No idea about a tablet yet, it should be around 10" (min. 1280x720px) with built-in 3G, thought about a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100, but compared to some Chinese devices I found on Alibaba it's quite expensive, with the freshly announced Tab 3 even at a higher price.
Concerning the phone I found the amazing Lenovo A820 at an unreal low price with top specs, but it's Dual SIM and not supported by CM (in fact CM currently has no Dual SIM support at all).
The major issue with no-name Chinese devices is the uncertain CM support (don't mind if officially or unofficially supported), but not being able to install CM would be a showstopper for me, as I have no intentions at all to run any Android device with GAPPS installed!
And advice?

Most Chinese devices (HTC and huawei and Oppo excluded) will not get CM support. If they do, it will be very limited. As in, they'll stop after maybe a couple months of nightlies.
Lenovo makes android tablets? Hmmm.
And stuff that is made specifically for China is usually much cheaper, but much harder to get your hands on.
My 0.02.
After some more research and searching through the list of supported devices at CM I came to the conclusion, that unfortunately none of such interesting Chinese / no-name hardware is suitable for me. I just have to have CM without GAPPS on my device, there is no way around it.
It seems there are quite some devices coming now with reasonable (and similar) specs at very low prices, like the freshly announced Huawei Ascend G525, which are all Dual SIM. If it wasn't about the missing CM support, I'd go for something like the Lenovo A820 or similar.
I still don't know what to do. The tablet is not a must-have, but a new phone would be nice right now. The list on CM does not show which devices are new, it should be a recent 2013 model.
So any hint, which of the un-/officially CM supported recent devices would be worth looking at?

Cheap Chinese phones with good custom ROM support

Hi,
since today there's the big 11.11 sale and I could need a new secondary phone I was looking for a cheaper model (say up to 150€ maybe 200€).
One could get some very nice hardware for this money already, but unfortunately they come with software that I don't trust.
Also I'd like to avoid Xiaomi and their annoying bootloader unlocking process (unless it's Android One).
Do you know any newer phone model or brand in general that has good custom ROM support? I looked at the supported device list of LineageOS but most of the devices are either a bit old or quite expensive. Ulefone, Dogee, Umidigi, Oukitel or how they are all called - I don't care as long as I can install my own software.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Idk if this offer will be available in your country, but for 204€ you can have a google pixel 3a, it has really good ROM support, easy bootloader unlock, and official Android updates.
Here's the link : https://www.backmarket.fr/google-go...cSYGn2dk7zH0iLe_IMj76LldDMGMtSYRoCnuoQAvD_BwE
Try this one if the other doesn't work with your country :
https://fr.shopping.rakuten.com/mfp...rid=pt|930664584875|m|471167205547|3912771384
In short, Google pixel 3a is a good 2ndary phone
The cheap knock offs state fake specs on the phone and descriptions. Since they are all slightly different you would have to study the product in detail using an app called phone information. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inpocketsoftware.andInfo&hl=en_CA&gl=US
The most common processor is the MT65XX. Most of these phones are surprisingly 32bit only. The sellers will never tell you exact specs before you buy, so it's a gamble. I have the Oukitel K9 with a MT6765 that works with Android 12 GSI, but lacks a partition and required some additional magisk setup. Having this knowledge you can look for Oukitel as a model number in the Spec on websites. For instance Mix 4 (knock off) all fake specs but the model is Oukitel and chances are the processor should be Mediatek. If the processor is greater than MT67XX and Ram is 4GB then you will be able to install GSI provided the partitions are standard.
