Samsung Omnia II Verizon

Anyone have this phone? My XV6800 feel in water so I am looking at the Ominia II or the TP2. I need to order today. Was hoping to use my NE2 discount next year with Windows Mobile 7 but I guess now I will just pay full price.
The Omnia II looks nice with the OLED screen, camera flash, 5MP camera, and fast processor (compared to the old ones in TP2). But there is no keyboard and it looks like you cannot turn off Touch Wiz. But other then that is seems less outdated tech then the TP2 (which has a great keyboard, speakerphone, and awesome xda support).
So yeah anyone with experience with the Omnia II it would be greatly apperciated. Hopfully whatever phone I get, it arrives no later then Tuesday.
edit: Forget about it, just going to get TP2 while I wait for WM7...

Omnia2 much better
And of course you can turn off TouchWiz
Although it's too late now, you could always drop an eye on Omnia Pro i.e. OmniaII+keyboard (almost), and off course, much much CHEAPER than TP2.
Yeah too late but also the Ominia Pro is not on Verizon at least now. I read that at least the Verizon version of Omnia II turning off Touchwiz only disables the cube or something. I did see HTC sense on it but it looked laggy for now.
My keys (almost all of them) on my XV6800 are working (still call, end, and most buttons minus the standby butt is not working). But the day it didn't I could not stand to text for a long time with just the screen (especially on a resistive. So ultimately that is why I went with the TP2.
I was not excited at all for the TP2 mainly since I convinced myself to skip it and hold out with my XV6800 until WM7 is out. But today I am really excited for the TP2. It will be nice to finally have a screen higher then QVG and more RAM . Still wish it had a camera flash. I guess my wait for WM7 will be a tad easier now. At this point I would not mind paying full price if we get something like the HD2 with a keyboard late next yeah. So yeah hurry up Fedex (tommorow is the day)!

Tilt 2 vs Mytouch or?

Looking into a new HTC phone. I can't get any phones from AT&T without a $15/month data plan... So I am looking at buying used, and my budget is around $200. Based on that, the two phones that look good are the Tilt 2 or the Mytouch. I like the android OS, but the big downside to the mytouch is the lack of a keyboard as I do a lot of texting. The new mytouch slide is out of my price range.
Is the onscreen keyboard with the mytouch halfway decent? I have the original Tilt/kaiser now, and I know the touch screen on that would suck for texting.
Any other phones I should look into maybe as well? Thanks!

Hi, I have owned both mytouch (normal one without keyboard/3.5 mm jack) and a Touch Pro 2. I would definitely say the Touch Pro 2 is a better phone all together, and you can really customize it with all those roms. I know I certainly was more satisfied with the TP2's performance compared to that of the myTouch.
Mytouch looks and feels really cheap, while the Tilt2/TouchPro2 feels sturdy and well-built in hand, and the keyboard is certainly the best keyboard--in my opinion--out of any smartphone to date.
Currently I am using an Xperia X10, and am loving android, but I gotta say, Windows Mobile had it's things that I haven't seen on Android to date. You'd really enjoy the customized HTC Touch FLo.
Thanks for the tips. Looks like the mytouch is a bad choice for texting... I see a few HD2s for sale for around $200 as well, but I still think the Tilt 2 is the best choice.

Yeah Tilt 2 (Touch Pro 2) is the clear winner, especially for texting or browsing the web. Also, it has a bigger screen, and a much higher resolution.

[Q] Desire HD or Desire Z?

Hi, I have decided to get either a desire HD or Desire Z. The problem is I can't decide which one to get. I wanted a physical keyboard but I am not that bothered about that now. I have looked and looked at comparisions but to no avail.
What I want to know at the end of the day is which is the fastest for games/graphical apps and which can be customised the most as in custom roms etc.?
I read the desire z has the 205 gpu but cant find if the hd is the same or not.
Any pointers in a direction would be appreciated to help me decide.
Thanks.
Stu.
Any opinions? Gotta decide by tomorrow!!
Personally, I only go for phones with a keyboard because I love fast typing on the keys and hate touch typing. So if I were you, I'd get the Desire Z. However, the problem with that phone is that the way it slides up, the hinges don't seem very stable and quite a lot of people have reported having problems with it.
But a better choice would be the Motorola Milestone 2. It's cheaper and much better than the Desire Z in many ways, it's a better phone overall. I never thought i'd say this coz I always prefer HTC phones, but the Milestone 2 just seems better.
One more for Desire Z!, keyboard it´s fantastic
Despite the constant complaints about hinges, you can always replace your phone with warranty ;D Plus, desire z ain't a fingerprint magnet
cheers, but are both phones the same cpu,gpu wise or different?
Desire HD, Better spec, better speed Bigger screen.
Typing, with swype, is a breeze, it took me 10min to learn swype, and now i can type faster than friends with a blackberry / slide keyboard phone.
ahh, now it's getting interesting. But still which?? ...LOL (?)(?)

Faster processor and more RAM for sure on the HD, but very bad speaker and a screen quality not as good as on the Z according to several tests.
As for Swype I've used it for a long time on my HD2. It's clearly an improvement for soft keyboards (SlideIT and Shapewriter as well) but in my experience a physical keyboard is much faster and comfortable than Swype.
I switched from a Touch Pro (hard keyboard) to HD2 (soft keyboard) then Desire Z. Conclusion: I'm never going to buy a new phone without hard keyboard unless I have no other choice.
And remember that when you use a hard keyboard half your screen isn't hidden by the soft keyboard when you type.

I find the speaker OK.
I tested it against my friends i4, it was arond 2x louder.
Both at full volume. Also, i4 was much slower than DHD
Of course get a desire HD, who wouldnt want a higher end android? Plus, dont worry about the keyboard because you can use swype or like htc ime, which is an amazing alternative.
Desire HD for sure. The speaker is not too bad volume and quality wise but honestly who would listen to music and whatever on it for a long periods of time. Bigger screen is the most awesome part of the phone, and the phone is very slick. Typing with stock keyboard in landscape is very easy and very fast, I can type faster then swype this way.
So in the end it comes down what you need. You want a very sexy device with big a screen, 8mpx camera etc... or a slightly bulkier device (also sexy) with smaller screen but hardware keyboard (hardware specs aside).
When playing games on a emulator a physical keyboard is definitely better though.
And if your still not certain, pick by which one is faster, Desire HD
Desire Z for me. The Desire HD is a great phone spec-wise, but I just find it a bit too much. Desire Z is sleeker, sexier, more HTC, if you like. Physical keyboard is a massive plus in my eyes.
Thanks a lot guys. keep the views coming.!!
Any opinions?
Don't let us pick the device for you lol.
Go to a shop and try them both out for a while and see how they feel, that's what I did when I was going to buy a HD2....came home with a Desire HD lol.
Hi, I bought a Desire HD!! Thanks for all your input people, helped a lot!!
Wait for Dual-Cores to arrive in Feb, or defo DHD without a doubt.

My Orange (UK) contract ends in March, and I am eligible for an upgrade as of now. I was thinking of going for a Desire Z but it seems like a bit of a waste given that the spec isn't great as it is, and dual-core processors in phones on the horizon.
Are they any HTC dual-core phones lined up?

[Q] How long till next HTC Android qwerty phone released?

I've had phones like the TyTn II and now have the standard Desire.
I love Android but really miss the hardware keyboard, especially with those keyboard shortcuts for quick multitasking.
So my question is, how long till the Desire Z is replaced?
I don't want to buy one now and then in 3 months a much better phone is introduced.
The HTC 7 Pro running Android would be perfect!
If you keep waiting for a better phone, you'll never actually buy one. There is always something better round the corner!
True, I actually went and bought the Desire Z an hour ago, as a local store had it for the same price as Amazon. I figured seeing as it was only released here in September, I don't want to wait till next Sept+.
From what i hear it's a good phone so i'm sure you'll enjoy having it.
awesome phone... grab it! I came from a blackberry and wanted a keyboard so this phone was choice!

sensation vs desire z

hi guys. i bought sensation last week. before i had xperia x10 mini pro. after much struggle i finally rooted it. i am thinking about selling it to my brother and getting desire z. reasons-physical keyboard I was used to from xperia and 3 color led instead of just 2. do you guys think these features are worth it? do you get used to typing on touch screen? what is your advice to the newbie? i am strggling to type on sensation right now.
I had a G2 and to be honest having a keyboard vs not having one is a HUGE difference. It all comes down to whether you absolutely need a physical keyboard or not. If you do, stick with the Desire Z and if you think you can adapt to a touch screen only then go with the Sensation.
You definitely get used to touch screen. This is my first touchscreen phone and to begin withI was hopeless, I would suggest using a 3rd party keyboard, my personal favourite is SwiftKey x because of its excellent word prediction.
Sent from my brain
I had the G2, NEVER used the physical keyboard because swype/GB keyboard was good enough for me. It's really personal preference, same thing I did with the G1, never used the physical keyboard. But if you absolutely need it and can't stand the touch keyboard then get it.
I have no idea wheter I can get used to touch screen. That's why I am asking if someone has experience with getting used to it.
I agree with Vandam500
I had the G1, loved it, the physical keyboard was LOVELY. but sadly it was slow and I got a N1 instead, problem was N1 has multitouch issues and it's really annoying when you're typing fast. Now the sensation, it's alright. I Still miss my G1 though.
But isn't the G2 substantially slower?
You will definitely get used to it.
Bought a Mytouch 3G last year for the keyboard and ended up exchanging it for a Vibrant within a week because I'd already gotten used to the touchscreen.
I had the desire z, the development isn't as good as the sensation, I get better performance and battery life on sensation. Personal prefference, I never used the keyboard even though I brought it because of the keyboard, but by the time you flicked it out I could just type on the screen just as fast. It's good for fpsece though and other emulaters

I have the Sensation and my girlfriend has Desire Z. She loves using physical keyboard but I prefer touchscreen. I tried to type fast on Desire Z but still I type much much faster on bigger screen keyboard (with two thumbs).
Well here are my 2 bits.
I was using blackberry before sensation, though yes it takes a little getting used to but typing is a breeze soon.
Good luck!

Only if you really need a physical keyboard.
Desire Z's camera quality is significantly worse than Sensation's (no, I'm not just talking about megapixel count, but image quality. Color reproduction, sharpness, contrast etc). Sensation also has faster and dual-core processor, and higher screen resolution.
Coming from the Nokia N900 I had a hard time. But only for as little as a few days, until I found out that there are bazillions of alternative keyboard programs for Android Nowadays I'm quite happy with my touchscreen-keyboard. Plus I love the bigger screen
