[Q] Bali On GB? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I was wondering if I missed something here, I saw some people's sig's saying they where running 2.3.3 on there SGS4G's and it said there kernal was bali 2.1 I saw a couple peoples saying that is there really a way yet to get bali on the new GB I thought you had to flash it thru cwm which gb doesnt have.

From my understanding it doesn't even support 2.3 yet.

Why start a thread about it instead of sending a pm to the few who has it in their sig? Would get a faster response no? Not only that, if people were to read all the pages in each thread they wouldn't miss a thing

i dont disagree with this thread, because there are going to be tons of people asking he same thing, i just hope there arent a million people opening threads like this with the same topic.

I support this thread

I use sgs kernel flasher to flash the kernels. so i think they would have to use this on GB because there is no cmw yet. its in the market

Bali is froyo source. Not gb source. Plus, partitions are encrypted and will only work with the UNMODIFIED STOCK kernel.

If people read they wouldn't need to ask unless they stated that they read it but still don't understand. Please forgive the uncle scrooge in me. Im trying to stay up to date and I have to fish through all the posts/threads to find a useful anwser. Reading the same questions over and over is getting tiring when the answer was on the previous page.

Simple answer....no gb kernel source, no kernel tweaks or additions.

Maybe we should do what was suggested in the vibrant forum months ago and have a new thread for each update. When you get into the 4th or 5th update and over 100 pages that 75 are thanks this flies it gets confusing and hard to find an answer.

Please if its been posted, tell me where and ill read it but a quick search revealed nothing. I just picked up my inspire and when I check for HTC update it shows there is one. Do I need to update before rooting? Also what changes are there as far as any major steps to flashing a Rom. Like if I want inspired ace can I just root, flash recovery and install Rom? Or does the bootloaders need to be flashed before flashing a gingerbread Rom? Sorry for the 838393 million questions but I'm a long time Samsung user lol,I know my way around rooting and flashing but I know HTC phones can be a little different

anyway, like he said do that .. as far as the update first or not:
you can flash whatever radio you want after you are done rooting; for me i rooted before the OTA, but for wifey we did the update first.. it doesn't matter, as the info will be destroyed during the root anyway.
you cannot OTA after root from what i gather, as i was never offered the update as i was rooted

Lol sorry for putting it like that. It's just sometimes someones question sounds like one that's been answered already, but they mean it in a different specific way. Here lately people have been a little rude about the whole "its been answered" but really I just have a hard time explaining exactly what I mean in text. I don't mind reading the stickies but sometimes it gets confusing if you are new to a device and don't know what stage the development is at lol. But thanks man,ill go read the stickies and if I have any problems ill just post back here lol. Appreciate the kind answer

Well don't take it to harshly most are just sarcastic. I mean I am just sarcastic.
What doesn't help is when you can't truly tell for sure if its a playful sarcasm or mean sarcasm. It sometimes is hard to tell considering we are talking to each other in text form. There have been some posts I've read, not by you, but others, that I couldnt particularly tell if they were being mean or just being a smart @ss just to mess with someone without offending. I just wanna say something to the ones who have meant there sarcasm in a mean way. My wife's cousin coined these 2 phrases, and I like using them a lot. "Can't we all just smoke a bong!" And, "Life's a ***** and then you die, f*** the world let's get high!" Lmao ;D

My favorite method is to apply the OTA and then use Gingerbreak. Chainfire is a fantastic developer and I used gingerbreak to install rom manager, flash CWM, and get your flashing on.

I read a how to root the gingerbread thread the other day and s guy had it. His instructions were as follows: 1. Bury phone in ground. 2. Water three times a day. 3. Enjoy root for the gingerbread. I am new but those instructions seem kind of off. Step 2 I can see, but step 1 is just a little much.

They could just have an error screen explaining why they can't post. Let them know they have to be a member for certain amount of time, or there could even be a kind of peer review, where existing developers can vouch for the new member.

I thought this was already the case.
Questions like this should be asked in the Q&A forum. Period.
Also, one should spend time reading the first 1-2 pages of each forum, ESPECIALLY sticky threads before posting. It is obviously clear that the original poster did not spend ANY time reading.
I was a noob once too - but I took the time to do my research and spent an evening or two browsing threads and learning when I first flashed my HTC Tilt. Same for when I bought my Tilt2. Same for when I bought my Huawei S7, and same for when I bought my Infuse and Tab 10.1.
The "teach a man to fish" proverb applies here. If you just handhold a user, they will never learn anything. If you force them to spend some time reading threads, they'll start learning how to educate themselves and learn a new device without asking questions about stuff that is widely documented.

That's no excuse! I've been in this game for years and have learned almost everything I know simply by reading. If I can do it so can the noobs. Period. This guy deserves everything and anything he gets. I'm with Entropy. They must be forced to learn!
I'd say "ok guys back to topic" but instead I'll say "crap, here comes Neo again!"
Agreed.
A bit of reading would help everyone. Generally speaking, most questions have probably been asked before and even if they haven't; it is best to search anyway because you might stumble across the answer.
I'm all about being helpful, but constantly coddling people while they do the wrong thing isn't helping anyone. I want us to have a large user base so that our development continues to expand, but not just so that we have a lot of ignorant people running around posting the same thing over and over without doing a bit of searching.
It isn't as if this post was some desperate call for help because their phone stopped working after installing a ROM. It was just someone being lazy.

Need some help rooting my device.

Hi, I just updated my firmware to gingerbread 2.3.5 and I haven't been able to find anything on how to successfully root this version of android. If you guys can lead me in the right direction, it would be awesome. Thanks
You're gonna get flamed for posting in the wrong section, not searching for any information on your own, and expecting information to be spoon fed to you.
You root GB by flashing drhonk's custom GB kernel through Odin.
There are at least three recent threads about this. Please search next tinge for information, and post when you can't find anything.

Does anyone know what programs I need to install roms. And kernels on this infuse by Samsung..also how do you do it? I really need someone to tell me how with full detail! Is it to much to ask without someone sending me a stupid link?
Don't complain about "stupid links." Surprisingly, people don't want to take the time to explain things that have already been explained. Look in the development section, look for infused 2.2.3. There is a detailed guide on how to initially flash a custom kernel then install roms.

I bought my infuse with zero android experience and was flashing custom roms with in 2 or 3 days. All I did was search, read and educate myself. The rescources are everywhere, you will save time and learn more and get a custom rom installed faster if you do like thousands upon thousands of us have done before you... Search.
I dont want to sound like an ass, i know where you are, cause i was there once to... But if you cant figure out how to flash a rom on your own, considering the countless threads, videos and rescources, then maybe you are safer sticking with stock. Cause when you do brick your phone, you will again have to figure out how to fix it.
In the time you posted and waited for a reply you could have figured it out on your own.

We're just saying you cluttered our forum with one thread, we answered you, then you went and made the EXACT same thread a couple hours later.
We tried to help. You ignored it and then in this thread you complained about the type of help we gave you.
We can't hold your hand through the process, you have to read, watch the vids.
And you say you did read. Then why don't you have CWM, I literally walked you through it step by step in your other thread.
I'm just saying I didn't even post my first message till I had already successfully flashed my first rom.
Read.
