[10-11-11][ROM] gingerbread-shift-deck [1.3][2.3.7][Stable] - EVO Shift 4G Android Development

Hey all. Been a while since my last release of anything, which was sense based, but I really wanted to start learning android and have a better perspective of it. I decided to dig a bit more into compiling android. Started horsing around with github and learned to start compiling my own builds from aosp wih the help from cmsrc, evervolv, and a few others githubs. Since the release of gingerbread to aosp, i moved away from sense. There are things that i do miss about sense, but the usability of the phone without it is just unmatched imho. Many people use or have used cyanogenmod. IMHO is a great open source project that has some of the best devs out there. I have always been more into the 'vanilla' look opposed to the themed and aftermarket. Recently i have been compiling gingerbread for the evo and mt4g and have had nothing but the best reviews. Basically the reason why i am here. Wondering if there was any interest in a few of my builds. Main reason from moving away from CM6/7 (cyanogenmod), ADW launcher and the extra added bloat(sorry) and themes. Battery life will always be one of my main concerns. Everything should work!

1.3 build is based off 2.3.7. (Thanks cm team) and cm kernel 2.6.35 (thanks cm team).
1.2.1 build is based off 2.3.4. (Thanks cm team) and cm kernel 2.6.35 (thanks cm team).

in reference to flashing a custom kernel, are there any custom kernels available to flash with gingerbread yet?

very nice. oh my **** fast. hopefully i can test battery today

whats different about this than cm7?

many thanks. Looking forward to getting home and flashing this. I enjoyed your ROM on my Evo. I'm sure this will be more of the same goodness.

A rom made with kush in the name? Yup this may be my new daily!

Just curious if hot-spot and 4g work? Love all these different roms, but have no desire to use one that does not have these options. Thanks for the work.

You can flash any of the aosp kernels that work on the latest releases cm7 or evervolv. Bcnice has a couple, x99 has one and scaryghoul has 1. There probably are more than that but that's all I got off the top of my head...

I just loaded this ROM to try it out and agreeably it was SUPER FAST to boot and use. Big problem I noticed right away after letting the phone sit for about 15 minutes idle the phone was very hot to to the touch (stock kernel that came with rom), freaked me out and i nandroided back to CM7

Is there an option to lock home screens in portrait? Looked through settings and didn't see anything aside from the auto-rotate. Would like to lock home screens in portrait and let everything else auto-rotate.

The new cm7 and evervolv are 2.3.4... Only the latest releases of the kernels will work... I'm not sure exactly which ones but I ran cm7 for last couple months and bc's kernel and the stock cm7 kernel worked best on my shift.
I'm almost positive that the kernel devs state in their threads if the kernel will work with 2.3.4...

The last time I used a kernal on a 2.3.4 rom it made wifi not work so I dont think im going to mess with a kernal on this one.

the kernal on this rom is workin great so far, i like that i don't need setcpu, i can use overclock/underclock in the settings... amazing rom

[ROM] AOSP Mesmerize Vanilla Froyo ALPHA 0.1

I have finally, successfully, gotten jt1134's device tree and Froyo framework all configured for the Mesmerize. This is a Vanilla Froyo (no Cyanogenmod) build and works enough to play around with (= But, I should warn you, this isn't a terribly stable build, so don't freak out if something acts weird d= Also, I'm not responsible for any harm you may do to your devices..
It's late and I have an 8:00 am tomorrow so I haven't tested everything out yet, but what is working and not working should be similar to what jt1134 has listed over in his Fascinate thread. Here's what I've tried though:
Working:
Phone
SMS
GPS
WiFi
Not Working:
Data?
Bluetooth
Camera
sdcard?
Oh, and it may randomly 'boot loop' a few times.. don't freak out though.
For this to work you need to be using the Mesmerize Froyo kernel I recently posted. To get everything setup just download the ROM and the Kernel and put them on your sdcard. Boot into recovery and make a backup. Wipe your data and cache partition. Flash the ROM. Flash the Kernel. Reboot. Froyo! If you're going to try to adopt this ROM for everyday use (good luck), make sure you grab the GApps package and flash that last.
I haven't got a Mesmerize device tree on github yet, but you can find the alterations to the kernel up. Really, you should look at jt's source/github because that's where all the dirty work is done (= Also, some of his work is under ModADroid on github.
Download Links:
Mesmerize Vanilla Froyo ROM: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/464066/Mesmerize/ROMs/froyo_mesmerize_0122.zip
Mesmerize Froyo Voodoo Kernel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/464066/Mesmerize/Kernels/0123_mesmerize_voodoo5.zip
I'll post a link to a nonvoodoo kernel when I get one compiled.
Froyo GApps: http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip
Be careful!! This kernel is named the same as jt's Voodoo Sound 2.1 Kernel that he released yesterday. You may want to rename one of the two if you plan on using both. The ROM will bootloop or freeze at the lockscreen if you mistakenly use a 2.1 kernel (=

It was definitely fun to play with, but yeah, as for everyday use, there is still work to do. Hopefully soon though. I know I'll be digging in some more tonight to see if I can find anything fixes.

The sdcard issue is just a problem with the init.rc I think.. but we'll see whats still not working after I get jt's latest source built and we can work from there.

I think it has to do with the mounting. It looked the same as the other init.rc's that I was looking at, but it was all running together at that point last night. I'll dig into it some more tonight and look at the mounting of the base init file and see what I can come up with. Hopefully something will jump out.
Dont pull bin/vold from a prebuilt image, make sure you're building the aosp version. Also, make sure you are pulling prebuilt/vold.fstab from my device repo.
Android uses the vold daemon and fstab files to manage sdcard mounts, not a simple mount command like the ones used in init.rc for other partitions.

No, you also need to revert to a 2.1 kernel as well. I mean 2.1 will boot on this kernel, but I can't say that it will work perfectly, and I found my scdard still didn't after a restore until I reverted kernels.
So restoring doesn't change the kernels, just the rom?

What you should do is download jt1134's Mesmerize Voodoo5 w/ Voodoo Sound kernel and flash it. You should then take a backup in perfect working order. If you want to play with 2.2, wipe, flash the rom, then kernel. When you're done, wipe, restore the backup, then flash the previous kernel.
Gotcha. Ha, I just found out about voodoo sound. That'll be tonights project, then 2.2 tomorrow hate this edge network junk

Sweet waiting for a few more things to be functioning before I try using it. Thought maybe about trying to tomorrow but only as a test.
Edit: I just flashes the ROM and Kernel last night 0 problems booting and starting up phone was basically functioning then when I installed the Froyo Gapps I couldn't use the phone anymore because no data connection couldn't get passed the google account setup but seemed to work.
The only thing that was weird is before I installed the gapps zip while playing around the phone kept going back to the silver Android logo seeming as if it was restarting and going back to the lock screen but I managed to test the Phone, called 611 got US Cellular so that works!
Thanks again for your work I definitely and looking forward to this.
Big thanks to the devs! This is an awesome step forward. I flashed the ROM and Kernel, and although it's definitely alpha, it's awesome progress!

It's pitiful that team of hobbyists and enthusiasts, working for free, in their spare time can port 2.2 faster than Samsung, who employs a full staff of software and hardware engineers, armed with development tools and source code. SAMSUNG, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

Samsung could have rolled out an firmware update but from what I've read they leave it up to the carriers to decide when they roll out updates.. especially OTAs since its on their end. US Cellular does spend a large amount of time testing their phones before releasing anything because their still small business orientated. That said, they easily could have rolled something out for us much earlier than this, as far as the small business goes they could have released it un-supported to commercial users and told business' not to load it yet plus not shipped any phones with it.. at least we'd have the option then..

I've been wanting to get away from CM7 and so far this rom seems like a winner. I was loving asopmod for froyo and would love to get back to something that works just as good as that. Had some little issues with CM7 and I'm not really into all the extra stuff they add.

Well, they're based off of 2.3.4, so maybe in that respect they are. Have you flashed this, or the evervolv rom?

Actually Sprint voicemail. I use Deck Roms on my Evo... Best rom hands down and always updating. I can only assume you would get the same with the Hero side. Going to have to get this for my daughters phone now. Thanks as always Deck.

Its so funny, I guess those of us with kids will be giving our hand-me-downs to them. I gave my Heroc to my daughter when I got my Evo. Too bad she won't get the Evo though, as I am upgrading to the Evo 3D soon, and need to sell the Evo to cover the cost. I'm sure glad there are some awesome ROMs like this one to keep the Heroc relevant. My daughter is quite happy, and frankly, I'm impressed! ;-)
gapps with vvm?
does that means there's no phantom voicemail when you flash the gapps signed zip with vvm?
Are the gapps packages in the OP compatible with other GB roms?

As dumb as it sounds, this is exactly why I've stayed with 2.1. And I've stayed with nFinite's Stock release (cleaned up a bit) because of the unmatched battery duration. My interest is piqued

you can get rid of the phantom voicemail by using Go SMS Pro and blacklisting it..
vvm has worked for me in all AOSP ROMs ..
I am currently on Aosp 5/21, using firerats 100 15, cw mod 3xxx. Wiped everything. Would not leave the htc boot screen. Suggestions. Everything was wiped and followed procedures in op

Yes VVM has worked, and yes you can blacklist a number. But blacklisting doesn't stop notifications that several texts were missed, which can't be viewed because it's blacklisted. GoSMS gives you the additional option to view blacklisted messages, which will finally get rid of the notification. But now you're manually checking a VVM text, which has completely defeated the purpose of blacklisting it in the 1st place. This proved to be enough of an annoyance to return to a modified Stock ROM.
This was my experience with CM6. Have tried GoSMS several times but keep coming back to Handcent. If any AOSP has Sprint VVM notifications ignored, thus bypassing the issue above, then I'm all ears.
I tried flashing 'Gapps 5-22-2011 with Voicemail' and got an Installation aborted error message when verifying the update package.
E:Missing file: system/app/BooksPhone.apk
E:Verification failed.
I'm using AmonRA 1.6.2 for recovery.
Edit: Same error with just the plain Gapps in the OP. I ended up flashing a different gapps file and that flashed fine. Finishing up with setting up the phone, so far, so good.

[ROM][ERA][EC05] Simply AOSP Version 4.01 Released 10/17/11

Simply AOSP 4.0
NOT SO STANDARD DISCLAIMER:
I, nor any of the ERA team is (are?) responsible for bricked phones, damaged SD cards, bad flashes, hurt feelings, crying, sleepless nights, restless leg syndrome, constipation, Cher, or any of the other various things you may encounter by installing custom firmware on your phone. Reboot into recovery, wipe everything 3 times, select ROM. Those are your instructions. Anything you do outside of that is on you.
Changelog:
Completely new base ROM used. Ecooce's as-of-yet unreleased Frankenstein v.4 was used as the base for this version. Ecooce provided a very stable, very small ROM that works perfectly with the Simply AOSP we've come to know and love.
All of the latest and greatest build.prop tweaks have come together to create a very fast and stable ROM with excellent battery life.
Volume Hack (Thanks mkasick)
Hotspot Hack (Thanks necrosan)
RFS/EXT4 Compatible (Thanks Officerpolabear)
Wifi scan interval set to 5 minutes to save battery
Simply Settings theme app included
Original Moto Droid 1 AOSP wallpaper (The one that started it all! Well, sort of...)
Genocide 2.0 Kernel (Thanks Rodderick)
Root/SU in ROM rather than kernel, feel free to flash!
Journaling On by default
No default memory-killing settings: compatible with v6 supercharger and other great scripts (by popular demand!)
Audio files and sound defaults from Cyanogenmod used for alarms, notifications, ringtones, and UI. Really can't get more AOSP than that!
I know everyone says this, but there really is a lot included that isn't listed here. There was a lot of moving and tweaking until just the right mix was found.
Huge thanks to TheDub, JohnCorleone, Ksmullins, Compkid, the ERA Team, and a whole slew of other people that helped with testing and answering questions. I couldn't have done it without you!
A COUPLE OF NOTES:
Updated Changelog
We tried to correct all of the issues that people had mentioned; all of the original UI notification sounds are back, tts service has been put back which should correct any navigation fc's, Revolted kernel is included. Also the same hotspot hack files are included in this that I used in the ERA EC05 ROM, so everything should be good to go there.
As always, let us know what you find! Download Link Below!
HUGE, HUGE thanks to pvtjoker42. He has been instrumental in getting this release out as apparently my internet service provider forgot the "provider" part and I've had no way to upload this. Also his persistence and reliability in testing this ROM have been invaluable. Find him and thank him.
This is EC05 based
The lockscreen mod is NOT built into this ROM. A tough decision to make considering it is one of my very favorite mods, but in the end it detracted from the AOSP feel of the ROM.
After to speaking with TheDub who was kind enough to let me update his ROM, he has suggested not including other themes with the Simply Settings app. While there are many great themes out there, I have chosen to respect his wishes.
You will find the standard Froyo, Touchwiz, and Gingerbread themes included.
This ROM is small; about 117 MB actually. That was one of my goals because if you're anything like me I download a LOT of ROMs directly to my phone. That being said, there aren't a lot of apps included in there. Please make sure you have good, recent backups of anything you may want.
With all of that being said, please download and enjoy! I will be checking this thread OFTEN so please come back and let me know what you think. We have done a lot of testing with this and haven't found any ROM-related problems (personal note, don't try and load 137 apps all at once. It slows things down. Yep, that was me...)
Please let me know if you have run into anything and I will try my best to help you.

This is based off of Froyo. I try and leave all of the leaks to ksmullins and I kinda fool with all of our EC05 Roms. Until GB drops, that is, and I'm out of a job!
The hotspot and volume hacks are included but the lockscreen isn't. In order to add it (and I haven't tested this theory) I would think it best to use an AIO Mod rather than just the lockscreen mod as they seem to modify some of the same files and I'm not sure if everything would be functional afterwards.
Also, JohnCorleone and a couple of others had tested with various EC05 themes and found no problems. I would venture to say that 'most' EC05 themes should work just fine.

As long as you are on the most current CWM and wipe everything 3 times you should be fine. I've personally flashed between GB and Froyo countless times without any problems.
Anyone willing to provide some "sexy screenshots" of this ROM?

If no one else gets any put up I will try to get some screen shots tomorrow if I can. (That turned out about as non-committal as possible...truth is mine doesn't look like stock anymore but if need be I can reflash and take some.)

Thanks!! Wow, a new Froyo ROM, this late in the dance! I'm psyched!
JohnC or KyleS- any advice on themes? Do the B-Reezy themes that Kyle modified with Maddog's lock mod work ok? I will be trying out myself later- gotta mow the lawn first.

[Q] I can't find a good ROM/Kernel

Hello everyone! This is my first post but I am a long timeme user of the forums.
So normally I am pretty good with this stuff as I understand a lot about this but I simply can't find a good rom and kernel that is also ICS. Currently I have BrainMasters MIUI 2.3.7 ROM, with the MIUI Trinity kernel.
I tried a few ICS ROMs and I love ICS but all the roms have some sort of problem. Ultimate ICS 2 had constant lock ups on me and my phone doesn't take kindly to over clocking. At all. Cyanogen Mod alpha 18 works okay but it gets very slow once all my apps are on it and it barely multitasks. Apps seem to close whenever left making multi tasking useless. Another one I tried was one that was super charged but the problem here was all super charged ones have done is close the app if left for a few seconds again making multitasking void.
Currently this ROM works no problem but I want to very badly move to ICS goodness. Also if some one can help my phone over clock better that would be nice. Am I doing anything wrong?
Thanks, cheers.
Okay. Here are a few roma you have to try.
1) peter alfonso's ICS rom (download at download.peteralfonso.com then in the crespo section)
2) AndroidME rom v1.1 is in development section here on xda.
3) CM9 kangs. (Download from
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/skankwich/crespo/ and use the latest g-apps from cm9 alfa18)
That are the roms i like the most. The peteralfonso rom is bugless.
But now im on androidME v1.1 with eugene's speedy-2 kernel. Speed, battery life and stability. Just what I need
Hope this helps..

Peter Alfonso's ROM (check general section) is good. Used it for two weeks without any hitch until i decided to explore other options. Currently on AOSP+ Neapolitan ICS 2.0.3 with no major complaints.
If you want other kernels, matrix and Glados have treated me well so far. I always OC to 200/1200 and have enough battery life for every day.
Even the stock ROM seems to have problems (for me the main issue is that battery is definitely worse than on GingerBread), maybe we should wait for a while to let things settle down.

real stable and fast ROM, maybe with eugene's kernel or GladOs 2.6
Pixel's stock rom with the Simply kernel were rock solid for me. I'm now trying Eugene's kernel with Pixels rom, and that also appears to be working very well!

That's what I first thought, I kept telling myself, okay so I am gonna wait til these are out of Beta and maybe wait for Cyanogen 9, but then I realized wait a sec this is STOCK Android?
I hope people work out the kinks in ICS for Nexus S soon cause it looks like a master piece
